Location: Prypiat, Ukraine
Images:: x, x, x.
General debriefing: Commonly known amongst most Hunters as one of the largest Halloween-Human portal hotspots, a strange influx of Fear and Insanity has grabbed a hold of the location, especially underground. The area is now covered in a thick fog, and what few tourists make it through are rarely seen back. The entire area has been covered off by local authorities, though the fog radius and Insanity seems to be spreading...
* B class difficulty level (must have a team of three, at least one of them must be a Full Hunter. This is considered a DANGEROUS mission. )

MECHANICS

* MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the Lighthouse portal to request a portal to Survey Mission AA. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Players can continue rolling until any of the players roll an INSANITY ENCOUNTER, in which case the BATTLE PHASE begins. See below for battle phase mechanics.
1- 20: You can't see through the thick layer of fog. At some points you hear someone call you, whether or teammate or another voice entirely. At other points you see a shadow of someone, as you reach towards them they disappear entirely. You trip over something - a body rotting, thick dark blood still blossoming on the ground in crystal-like fragments. They are smiling with eyes wide open at you.
21 - 40: As you walk deeper, you hit an old, rusted ferris wheel. There are people hanging inside each pod, some half-draped out, others nestled in. Their bodies seem to be showing light signs of decay, unmoving. All of them are smiling, widely, perfect teeth showing.
41 - 60: You manage to navigate through the fog into a segment of thick concrete. The area is extremely dangerous and radiates high levels of Fear and Insanity. You hear a voice mocking you, and laughing at the same time, words nonsensical. For a second you feel as if someone is watching you from behind you, tugging at you. As you walk past the pavement you realize all the cracks on the sidewalk are shaped in a large, wrinkled grin.
61 - 80: You see something from the corner of your eyes, a greyed out version of yourself. They wave at you and smile, grin splitting their face....
81- 100: BOSS ENCOUNTER:
- As you continue walking down the sidewalk you hear a large crack, followed by another. A strange gas explodes from underneath, making you extremely dizzy, as you cough to figure out what is going on, fighting for air now. You have exposed your entire team to a hallucinogen, making everything more terrifying than ever as your vision swims and hops uncontrollably and your hearing becomes muted. Something creaks, groans, lurches underneath you, but is that your imagination?

- BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is a mob that has collective 100 HP. Every time you attack it (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. AS you can't really see the boss, most of it will have to be dependent on what you can see, if anything at all, from strange faceless figures lurching, half-hopping towards you to the smiling dead coming back and swiping at you. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back.

* 3 mission reward points for completing this successfully

Text to Finn:
Of course we have a mission the day we plan to head out. Of course.

Quote:
Text to Finn:
Heard it's actually a difficult one too, so I hope you're up to the task Mr. Pink because I'd rather not be tainting my booze with blood tonight.

---

Dawson welcomed the mission's timing, level of dangers be damned. The girls weren't the only ones who wanted an excuse to go off island.

The text said something about Russia or something up north, so he donned extra layers under his coat, messily wrapped the scarf around his neck, and exchanged his usual caps for a camouflage hunting hat. He felt a flare of nostalgia as he did so: like he was about to go hunting. And technically that was still applicable here, though never in his life did Dawson think he would ever head out of the country to do so.

Nor did he think he'd have the unfortunate chance of being stuck with Jack to boot.

When he made his way to the lighthouse, hands stuff in his pockets, he opened his mouth to greet the tall guy with his usual gusto in spite of his reservations, but Jack's stare shut him up. No sunglasses this time. Aw crap. While the Lifer drank his coffee and proceeded to ignore him, Dawson leaned against the wall and fiddled with the insides of his pockets until the rest of the party arrived, hoping he'd get lucky and find a friendly face amongst the strangers.

Text to Jack: Of course we do. And of course they put me in charge of this s**t show.

Text to Jack: My first act as leader is to delegate you as the new leader. Congratulations Mr. Assface.

---

This was to be Thomas's very first mission, and he was feeling just a tad bit fretful about what he was meant to do, or bring with him. He dressed warm, of course, in many layers of his usual vintage rag-tag attire, because he assumed it was better to become over prepared then not prepared at all. A few extra odds and ends were tucked into his pockets, pins for locksmithing, a pack of matches, a pocket knife, a small runic flashlight, and some packages of trail mix, all which seemed like level headed and useful items to bring along.

Once that was sorted out, he was feeling much better about himself, and he arrived at the portal at the time he was meant to, unsure of who it was he would be working with as he did not recognize the names that were given to him. Upon arrival, his gaze was first drawn to the rather tall man who appeared to be drinking coffee, and should Jack have looked his way, he would have been greeted with a large grin, hard stare or not.

"Buongiorno, buongiorno." He greeted first Jack, and then Dawson, given each a small dip of his head. "This is where we meet up for the mission, yes?" He asked, his Italian accent subtle, but certainly noticeable.

Before he could ask if they were waiting for one more a voice spoke from behind him.

"Yes, if you're Thomas, or Dawson." He glanced to the other unrecognizable man, before taking in the mist symbol on Tommy's jacket. "Thomas, then." he gave the other man an appraising look, a cold eye flicking up and down, lips upturned only slightly in a smile that might have looked amused if not for eye.

"I'm Finn," He held out a gloved hand for a firm shake.

"Ah yes, Thomas. But Tommy is preferred." His smile had been lost for a moment, taken in by the eyepatch, the scars, the overall aura of the man who had greeted him, but was quick to return. Finn lifted an eyebrow slightly and gave a small nod of his head.

"Noted." Unimportant, but noted. He stepped past Thomas and towards the other two.

One glance at Dawson left him feeling utterly underwhelmed. He thought that the man looked somewhat familiar, but couldn't place him. Still, he was a moon, which left them with the option of either pairing up each with moon to non-moon, or trainee to non-trainee.

Ugh. Decisions.

"You, stick with him." He jutted his finger back towards Thomas. "Watch his back and try not to be completely useless."

There Jack, he just saved you from having to deal with shitty cover.

"You're welcome." He smirked, as he neared the too tall coffee addict. "Ready to get going? Maybe we can get through this fast enough to still make it in time for happy hour."

Dawson visibly tensed as the other men entered. One he vaguely recognized, but it was more his association with Jack and the unnerving smile that gave him bad vibes; the other seemed genuinely friendly, thank God, but...was he also part of the Asian Mafia? Shits snacks.

"Uh....Dawson, yup, n' y-yes, sir," he mumbled in greeting after Finn assigned him, doing a quick and nervous salute before glancing at Thomas and offering a smile.

Jack tossed his styrofoam cup away. "Yes, I am. And thank you for giving me all of the responsibility to make sure we do," he drawled as he checked his runics. Rolling his neck, he gestured for the party to move forth. "Jack Hawthorn for those who want to remember. I'll assume you two read the mission report, so I'll skip past it. Stay close, and for God's sake do keep communication. Losing someone is a mark on my record that's annoying to scrub off."

Dawson gulped and scooted a little closer to the Mist as they headed out.

And almost immediately tripped over a carcass. His yelps caused Jack to stare at the portions of grey sky available through the thick fog with a long-suffering look.

"H-Holy mother a'God," Dawson whined, starting to shake. "It's got crystal s**t on it or s-somethin'." And it was smiling.

"Welcome to the world of Fear and Insanity, fresh meat. This is just one example and a tame one at that." The little machine in his pocket was going nuts with the amount of both concentrated here; laughter in the fog attempted and failed to break his concentration as the Lifer scanned about. "You may start to hear unusual noises while we're here. Rest assured that they're perfectly natural."

Thomas likely would have had a good chuckle over that Asian Mafia thought, as he never ever actually considered himself even remotely of that culture. His looks were, mostly, of the Mediterranean variety, though hints of features he had inherited from his never met father were definitely there as well. As it was, however, he had no idea, and it likely would have made little difference in his overall rather chill and cheerful personality, as he gave Dawson a broad grin in return. "It is good to meet you. Please, do not feel as if you must protect me at all costs. It is fine to look out for yourself as well." He gave the other man a wink, and then crossed his arms, waiting to get a move on, his head cocking to the side slightly as the taller man, Jack, began to speak, noting that he and the one eyed man, Finn, appeared to know each other, quite well if their banter was any indication.

"Don't let it go to your head. Also, I'm still the one who'll end up getting all the blame if something gets ********, so do try to do a good job, Jackie-boy." He grinned up at the other man, and jerked his head at the other two to get them to fall out, as if Jack's little speech and gesture wasn't enough to get them moving quick enough for Finn's liking.

On the other side of the portal, fog. It was always fog. To Finn, this was normal, though rather annoying as he knew just what horrors might be hidden. To Tommy, it was completely new, and he fished out his runic flashlight immediately, moments before Finn did the same, two beams clicking to life though they did little to cut through that thick grey.

Dawson let out a whine, and Tommy was quick to turn towards him, casting that light around and to the ground, where instead of seeing a carcass, he instead saw fissures that seemed to appear out of absolutely nowhere, forming into an oddly shaped grin.

And then the laughter. Dark eyes blinking wide, eyebrows raised, the flashlight was up and shining around again. "What is that? Are there people out there....?" He asked, though Jack gave a bit of an explanation for both the corpse, the fissures, and the sounds.

"It's a bit like that resort." Finn shrugged his shoulders, eye narrowed as he shone his light around as well. The broken, odd, disjointed laughter was slightly off putting, but so far seemed rather harmless as no immediate threat emerged.

Jack clicked his tongue which was pretty much a duly noted.

"U-Uh, don' worry 'bout me, uh...Tommy, right?" Dawson gave another nervous smile that seemed to fade through the fog. "I got practice watchin' me n' someone else--"

And then he tripped over another crystal corpse and nearly yowled. His runic flashlight flared to life belatedly, almost seeming to flicker in his shaking hand. His shield was summoned in the other, the weight and sight of the snarling lion a comfort he needed right about now. Thomas was given a sheepish glance.

"Well...defendin' skill's definitely better than my eyes," he assured.

"Fun times, that place. The question being what could have destabilized the Fear here so thoroughly that it created Insanity..." He cast a glance at the two trainees just to make sure they weren't going to lose them in the fog, but when he turned to face forward Jack froze. While he had just alerted them to the anomalies lurking in the Insanity, he had a very good reason to be wary of seeing something specifically wearing his face. His hand crept slowly towards his runic torch, but just as he grazed its handle, the figure's mouth split into an impossible grin and vanished.

Well then.

"Reminds me of the tunnels under Paris," he added idly, staring at the same spot just to make sure. "But with less horror movie buildup and more mutant rats."

"Yes." He nodded to show that Dawson was correct, and continued to smile, even though he was cold, the fog seeming to seep through every layer of his clothing and straight through skin, muscle and sinew, deep into his bones. He shivered, and his hand shook slightly, the beam of light he attempted to use to be able to see better by trembling because of it. With steady breaths he reminded himself that this was nothing, that he had stared down many fears and challenges, all worse then this.

Somewhere in his head, Jaida laughed at him, her voice like chiming bells. That laugh indicated that he was wrong, that this was far worse then anything he had ever seen or experienced before. That laugh was nothing short of condescending.

Feeling just slightly put out by his weapons response to his attempts to rationalize and calm himself down, he was not paying much attention to where he was going, and just as Dawson tripped over a body, Tommy tripped over the same, and nearly ended up on the ground, though thankfully he was very proficient in regaining his balance.

His breathing had quickened, his heart pounding in his chest as he pointed his flashlight down towards the body, staring at it with eyes a touch to wide for a moment, before he seemed to relax, inch by inch. "It is beautiful in a way though, no?" In a twisted, almost sickening way.

Meanwhile, Finn was busy conversing with Finn, casting glances back towards the two newbies fairly often in order to make sure they hadn't wandered off and were staying close. He noted that both of them seemed to be bumbling around like a couple of idiots now, but that Tommy held some interest for the corpse on the ground.

"Couldn't tell you. Guess that's why I'm in moon and not life thought, right?" He gave a wan smile, before shifting his glance elsewhere once more.

And then something caught his gaze, just out of the corner of his eye. A grey figure, one eyed staring back at him. A replica of Finn himself that seemed to manifest out of the fog itself.

"Cute." Finn muttered. "I wonder if this ones face is going to melt off as well."

But it didn't. Instead it waved, grinned in a way that was much too impossibly large, and vanished.

"Paris?" His attention shifted back to Jack. "Haven't been there."

Dawson gave Thomas an incredulous and mildly frightened look. "Ain't nuthin' beautiful 'bout dyin'," he said quietly. "Not like this. These're...civs, man, they don' know..." He swallowed, but the small lump in his throat refused to vanish.

"Paris smells like weed. It was underground anyway," Jack replied dismissively as he crouched by the corpses that seemed to be materializing out of the aether. "Didn't have a lot of time to investigate as we hit an anomaly straight from the portal." The manner of their death was what perplexed him, as he could barely make out the blood spatter pattern even with light; the fog lit up and made him squint as he examined one of the bodies. He noted the blood was--

"Crystallized." Jack frowned in thought as he pushed himself to his feet. "The only instance I'm aware of similar to this is what accounts I've heard about Merlin's power. Unless Insanity merely mimics a similar condition...? But no, that makes no sense, something can't solidify if it's decomposing..."

"S'Fear, man," Dawson offered with a gulp, his eyes darting about for signs of movement. Anything to not focus on the corpses. "Maybe it don't gotta follow the rules."

"When you have grasped even one file on the nature of Insanity in your piggish fists and read it through its entirety without crossing your eyes, Grace, perhaps you can contribute something other than the layman's lazy excuse for anything beyond their intellectual grasp."

Dawson seemed to shrink and color found its way to his cheeks.

Thomas realized a bit belatedly that perhaps he shouldn't have said anything. He bit down on the inside of his lip, silent for a moment while he continued to look at the corpse, attempting in his mind to think of how he could explain himself and what he had meant. "It is not the act of death that I find beautiful, really, though. Just...this." He gestured to the body on the ground, to it's smile, the the blood that became crystal as it seeped out of the body.

"Are they real?" He questioned, looking towards Jack, who seemed to be the most knowledgeable of the group. "Or are they just a manifestation of the insanity...something we are seeing and feeling and believing is there but is actually not?" He didn't know much about insanity at all, and made a mental note to read up on it when they got back.

Well, he supposed if they got back was more accurate.

Finn's response to the conversation on Paris was simple. "Sounds ******** awful. Wouldn't want to vacation in that land of ignorant frogs let alone work there." He gave his head a small shake, then pursed his lips as Jack had his way with verbally berating Dawson, not at all inclined to step in and help the poor bumbling idiot.

Again, he left the technicalities to the lifer of the party, not feeling any need to way in his own opinion when he really had nothing of worth to give.

Out of the corner of his eye, again, a grey apparition of himself appeared. Again it waved, smiled, and disappeared.

"I hate this s**t." Finn closed his eye. "Think the big bad is going to show up anytime soon or just ******** with us all day instead?"

Thomas had gone rather silent, distracted, staring out into the fog. He saw himself, out there, as if he were staring at a mirror instead of cloudy grey. It was amazing, but incredibly creepy, and when it smiled, he shuddered, taking a step back and away, nearly bumping into Dawson.

"Ya think the crystal blood is beautiful," Dawson repeated with utter confusion. "Al...right, I guess?"

"Real, I would think," Jack replied. "The fog can create temporary clones, but they are very unstable. These were alive. not even Insanity could recreate--"

Dawson yelped and literally jumped. Thomas had the unfortunate timing of bumping into him when he saw the sidewalk crack into a smile and heard familiar laughter in his ears that sent shivers down his spine. "Sawry, sawry..."

Finn was shot a look like it was his fault they got saddled with this particualr fatass, but before he could, they all heard a loud crack and a hiss that Jack and Finn were familiar with. Gas mixed with the Insanity quickly, and soon the sounds of a surrounding, invisible mob could be heard.

Dawson's instinctive reaction was to cower. Without thinking he dropped his flashlight, and even the several feet it rolled felt longer than it was; the miasma almost swallowed it up save for an aura of light that threw what little he could make out of the mob into even more frightening relief.

Breathing it in was a mistake. He started immediately coughing up a storm and covered his mouth with his free arm. Stick to Thomas, that was what Finn had said. He turned and raised his shield, his weapon steady but he himself looking rather shaky.

"Okay, okay, okay....I-I got ya, man," he mumbled. "Gotcha from...whatever th-the hell this s**t is..."

Thomas could see there was really not much point in trying to explain himself further, so he simply grinned, which was perhaps not at all comforting given the situation. Moments later, when he startled Dawson, who let out a loud yelp, he winced, and murmured to the other man. "I am sorry, so sorry. I did not mean to run into you...."

Somewhere, Finn was sharing a look with Jack that clearly said how did we get saddled with two idiots let alone one?

However, soon everything was to be thrown into chaos. The ground cracked, lurched, heaved beneath Tommy's feet. He danced lightly upon the surface, keeping his balance easily, and when gas filled the air he startled, and attempted to bock his nose with his scarf, though that might have only staved off the effects for a few extra seconds.

His vision swam, his ears suddenly felt off, as if all sound that should have been nearby was now somewhere distantly away. Dawson was there, he could sort of make him out even with this twisted, dizzying vision that made him feel sick to his stomach.

And other things were out there as well, lurching through the fog, leering, grinning faces. In a flash of blue, Tommy's twin gauntlets were encasing his fists, but his fingers slipped over the strings in an attempt to notch them back, and it took him a long time before he was able to fire an electric blue bolt out into the fog.

Something swiped at him, quite painfully, from behind, and he whirled on his feet. "Over here!" He shouted at Dawson, but even his own voice sounded so very far away.

Ah, there was the familiar gas, which Finn did not even bother attempting to keep out of his lungs. In a way, he thought it was almost needed to be able to see their enemy, so why fight it? Trynt was summoned to his hand, the lance itself having changed a lot since Finn had become a full hunter, lengthening, straightening, no longer dark like it had been for a time but white once again, with magenta blades that sharpened off to a vicious tip.

The runes glowed faintly in the fog, and Finn spun the weapon in his hand, perhaps not quite so susceptible to the gases effects as the trainees as he seemed to be put off by it so little as he stepped in front of Jack to fend off the twisted corpse that came at them.

Like they had practiced this for ages, Jack waited for a gap between Finn's swinging and struck at the gaseous skeletons clamoring around them. It was impossible to not see how fluid the movements seemed now, as opposed to the choppy motions from back when they were basic trainees. He couldn't help but be a little envious of Finn's ease.

"How's it feel?" he asked curiously as he passed a glance at the trainees. He could barely make them out, but the flicker of their runes at least showed they weren't being useless. "Your first mission as a full hunter, I mean." More than that, the power that came with it.

Crap s**t s**t crap screw this fog. Dawson wheezed and hastily tugged his scarf up with his free hand, batting at half-formed monsters as he sought the glow of Thomas' weapon. The obscuring fog was a curse in that regard, but it was also a blessing; he didn't have to look too closely at the things they were fighting.

He bashed something's head away just before he reached the Mist, breathing as hard as if he had been fresh from a marathon. The fear bubbling inside him made him quick and jerky on his feet. "Slow down, bruh, ain't a race," he said with a half-formed smile that disappeared when he lunged too late to stop something from charging at Thomas. "s**t! You alright?
