"This is a fine mess we're in," Adalind muttered to herself as the rain poured down. The sound echoed throughout the valley all the way down the mouth of the cave where she took shelter from the storm. She couldn't help but think that if she'd listened to her father she wouldn't be in this mess. She wouldn't really be anywhere, to be honest. Her father had a small....difficulty. Small wasn't really an accurate way to phrase it. Her father was haunted. He saw things, terrible things, that she could not and did not want to comprehend. He always worried about her and her sister when they were foals. Some part of her knew he only looked to protect them, but his protections felt almost like smothering.

Things with her mother were a little different. Her mother was firm, but fair. She always encouraged her girls to stand up for themselves, to be confident, and to do what they felt was right. It is of note that they were not told to do the right thing - then again, moral outlooks seemed to be a little shaky with them. But they looked after each other. She supposed that's what it meant to be a family.

If she was a lesser soul, she could blame her currant predicament on her father. His smothering form of love and protection had driven her to finding her own solace in dark places, shadows, viper pits, and the like. Her love for her father had provided the motivation to take the bait. After all, how could she resist an opportunity to cure her dear father of his crippling ailment?

Adalind's ears perked up as she heard the sound of small feet scrambling at the cave's entrance. A moment later a small form looking like rain soaked black velvet ran past her and shook off somewhere behind the mare. "Took you long enough," Adalind said good naturedly as she eyed the rabbit. "Did you find anything useful on your reconnaissance mission?"

The rabbit gave the mare a long stare in response.

"Oh come now," Adalind sighed. "You know I wouldn't have asked you to go out there if it wasn't important." She added as a means of appeasing the rabbit, "And we are on something of a time crunch. It has to be tonight. Under the light of the full moon." The rabbit's disgust was impossible to miss even in the darkened cave. "I know, the source isn't exactly reliable." Shady kalonas were typically pretty low on the trustworthy list, and this was coming from someone who bore a set of horns and chompers worthy of a kalona. "But it's a chance, right? And...and you wouldn't see dad suffer any more than he has to, would you?"

Grimm shrugged. He could see the stallion had problems, but honestly he liked the big lug like that. How often did a rabbit fond a gig where he was depended upon and no one was trying to take his foot? But he had a soft feeling for the lug's kids too, which is why he was here in the middle no where in the middle of the night scoping out a legendary graveyard that was filled with nothing less than misfortune, curses, and death. So basically a typical Friday night with these guys...

"Then....your report?" Adalind prodded gently, her patience starting to wane. She nodded slowly as Grimm described the situation. The graveyard appeared empty as far as the scout could see although Grimm wasn't hesitant to remind Adalind for this plot to work they would need moonlight. The rabbit also didn't hesitate to remind her that this plan was still a terrible one at best. And Adalind had to acknowledge that the plot was a little...more than a little...far fetched. But if this graveyard was imbued with magical powers, who was to say that some dirt from it couldn't help her father. She really didn't think it could make things much worse. She honestly didn't think things could get much worse for her father.

Once Grimm had finished his tale she nodded, "So what you're saying is all we need is for the storm to subside long enough for the moon to come out and..." she paused struggling to come up with the right words. "Bless...well, kinda bless a freshly dug grave. Then all we have to do is scoop up the dirt and head on home. Easy, right?" She did note that Grimm remained less than pleased with the plan even restated with more appealing words. The horrible thing was Adalind hadn't confided the entirety of the plan to her father's friend and guardian. She feared if Grimm knew everything he wouldn't help her, and while Adalind wasn't the skittish or fearful type, she didn't want to undertake this vast task alone.

After a bit more prodding, Grimm reluctantly agreed to lead the way back to the graveyard, specially to the fresh grave that he had sought out. Adalind had wondered why there was a freshly dug grave in a so called "cursed" graveyard. Wasn't that supposed to be bad luck or something? And if this place was so very cursed, why or who would take the time to dig up a plot and bury someone here? A loved one at that. But what if they weren't a loved one? she thought to herself as her sure hooved feet navigated the sliding mud and slippery land scape in low lighting. Burying an enemy in a cursed graveyard, that would be a terrible fate.
