Each of you are to make a post rolling a 100 sided die. The highest roller will get to attack first, but also have to choose their one pokemon for the match first. Wait until both trainers have chosen a pokemon before attacking.
For example:
P1 rolls, gets 100
P2 rolls, gets 1
P1 sends out Zubat
P2 sends out Rattata
P1 has Zubat use Confuse Ray
And so on like a regular battle.

Lyle was surprised to find that there were so few people in the tournament. Just two rounds of battle? Last he entered a Gym leader hiring, there had been so many more people! He hadn't thought having to prove you could battle would make that much of a difference.
But however it turned out, he was in now. It was a battle like any other, and he'd do his best He made his way into the stadium and took his place in the trainer's box, then waited for his opponent to arrive.

Alexa was also surprised that hardly anyone signed up for the gym leader tryouts this time around. Perhaps they felt that Katarina was cursed or something since the previous leader disappeared. She didn't believe that otherwise she wouldn't be here... okay she'd still be here. This was a chance at redemption. After all she had tried out to be the gym leader here previously. So when she had heard they were looking for a new leader she flew over as fast as possible. She walked into the stadium and waved to Lyle. She had battled him before and had heard he was one of the trainers working at Shina's gym. "Hey! Good luck!" She called out when she reached her trainer box.

Lyle smiled and waved back at Alexa. Spinel, who was perched on Lyle's hat as usual, also grinned and waved. "Thanks, you too!" Lyle called out. He remembered her; they'd fought in the last gym leader hiring! She'd used an Arcanine, right? It turned out Lyle was first to send out a pokemon, so he considered carefully. He had a full team this time, so he didn't have to go with just Spinel. He was tempted to go with his first pokemon anyway, but remembering the Fire-type made him chance his mind. So instead he pulled out a pokeball and threw it out onto the field. "Let's show them what you've got, Comet!" The Floatsel burst out of his pokeball and landed on all fours.  Spinel had been waiting eagerly on Lyle's hat, and tensed up when his trainer considered what pokemon to use. But when Lyle picked someone else, he slumped. Lyle noticed his pokemon go floppy on his head and looked up (not that he could see the Sableye around the brim of his cap). "Aw, sorry Spinel. Maybe next time," he said to his first pokemon.

Alexa finally remembered that she had battled Lyle the last time she tried out for gym leader. She had lost that battle. Hopefully this time would go differently! She nearly groaned seeing him toss out a water type pokemon. Her one weakness to her team. She grabbed Stribog's pokeball and was about to toss it when she stopped to consider something. He was really weak to ice attacks and if she remembered correctly Floatzel could learn some ice attacks. She removed her hand and sighed. There was only one pokemon on her team up to going against a pure water type: Vincent. Grabbing his pokeball she tossed it and the huge Arcanine emerged. He looked around while wagging his tail. "This time will be different, right Vincent!" She called out. He responded with a loud bark.

Lyle was interested to see they'd be fighting the same Arcanine as before hopefully they could beat him this time, too! "Comet, start with Water Pulse," he commanded.
His pokemon leaped into action, bounding around Vincent and releasing a burst of water.

Alexa was prepared to wince when she saw the burst of water. However it didn't seem to damage Vincent. That meant one thing: he was now confused. She groaned and ran through a list of his attacks. Nothing to get rid of the confusion. She could only pray that his attacks would go through and he'd not hurt himself. "Thunder Fang!" She ordered.
Vincent stumbled when the water was released by him. It didn't really hurt but it kinda mixed him up. He took a couple of steps away from Comet looking confused. He then turned hearing his trainer's command. He lunged for Comet with his mouth sparking. He ended up tripping before her and hit his head on the ground.

Once the battle started, Spinel sat up to watch. He had the best seat in the house, after all! He cackled gleefully when the big dog got confused and tripped over himself. His boy was smart! Lyle smiled. It was a good start, but the battle had just begun. "Keep it up, Comet," he instructed. His Floatzel never stopped moving, bounding around the stage and shooting more bursts of water at his opponent. Alexa facepalmed when Vincent tripped. This was looking to go the same way as last time.
Vincent didn't hear a new command and turned to find Comet. He was hit with some water soaking him. He heated up his fur to dry himself. Then he was lunging to bite again. He missed again due to chasing an illusion of Comet instead of the actual pokemon.

Lyle was glad to see Vincent miss again. Comet seemed to be doing well, so he let his pokemon continue on with his attack. Comet was focused, darting about to make it harder for his opponent to target him. He kept shooting bursts of water as often as possible. Vincent tried shaking his head to clear it up some but it didn't really work. Also didn't help that he took a face full of water right after. He looked around trying to spot the Floatzel but he was moving all over the place. If only the darn thing would hold still! That gave him an idea and he tried to bite on of Comet's legs to paralyze him. It looked like he had it in the bag but when he chomped down he felt a spike of pain. Turned out he was actually chasing his tail and just bit it.

Spinel cackled and clapped at the dog's antics. Lyle considered calling for other moves, but since this seemed to be going so well, he left Comet to continue.
