Wrathful Demigod

PostPosted: Thu Feb 05, 2015 8:41 pm

Peyton was on a break. Perched on the shoulders of one of the training dummies, she had her arms folded over it's head, chin resting on top of them, and tired eyes turned down to the phone in one hand. Twitter didn't really help, but it did provide a decent distraction, up to a point.

There was a water bottle on the ground near the base of the dummy, but it appeared to be untouched. She'd finished her run, Horace had gone off to do whatever it was Death trainees were required to do for their daily duties.

She could have been pummeling the dummies, but that got boring fast. Eventually someone would wander by looking for a spar, they always did. It was just a matter of waiting it out.

Rep arrived to the training fields in a bit of a daze. He had been trying to catch a nap, but that was just a ******** pipe dream lately, there was no chance he'd get any sleep unless he was ready to keel over and even then of late it wouldn't make much difference.

Pey was an unlikely figure to challenge, but she seemed not to be otherwise occupied, and it was fear he needed more than anything else. Full hunters were the ones he should really pursue to get that, as he'd found with Jordan.

"Hey b***h, you busy?" he asked, with a toothy grin.

She didn't seem quite herself as she looked up at him. Less fiery, a lite more subdued. The insult didn't even seem to register for all the response it pulled from her. "You want to spar me?" It seemed odd to her. They hadn't gone toe to toe since the girl was a trainee, and no matter how offer they butt heads it never seemed to heat up to a physical confrontation. The only real except being the time she'd tried to subdue him during the last big mission, but even that had been short lived. A couple of blows at best.

An incredulous look rested on tanned features, but she did climb down from her unusual perch. "I guess if you want." Who was she to say no to a fight? Things in her personal life might have been a little strained at the moment, but they hadn't dissolved into anything bad enough to keep the Sun from sparring.

With a flash she summoned Warrick, and delicate little fingers tightened around the wrapped handles.

"Aye. I need spars, you are ******** handy and you are always banging on about how ready you are to fight and s**t. Might as well take advantage." He tried not to think too much about the s**t that he knew about her, he couldn't afford to have sympathy in a spar, and besides, he couldn't afford to have sympathy for Peyton in general. He'd decided a long time ago she was cruel and unpredictable, bound up in her strange womanly ways and not to be trusted. That had to persevere.

He summoned Tracey and the axe was still fractured, still broken and twisted looking, but he was a little more nimble than he had been as he leapt forward, swinging it hard at her shield.

"Plus there's some people I'd like to fight more than others." he added with a grin.

"That is very true," she started to say, but the appearance of Tracy was distracting. Peyton blinked as the large ax flashed into being, gaze snapping down to the fractures before snapping back up to Rep's face, the question more than clear on delicate features. He swung at her, diving right in--and really, she hadn't expected anything less--and her daggers were more than dwarfed by the sheer difference in size between the two weapons as blades shrieked against blades. Blocking, mostly, but catching a sharp slice across one arm before she had pushed the ax away from her. One she returned with a quick little slash at his hand.

"And what category do I fall into? The more, or the others?" She sounded genuinely curious.

Though again, pale eyes flicked to the damaged ax, attention drawn to it. "And what happened to Tracy?" Because whatever happened, she didn't want the same fate to befall Warrick. The demon gave an apprehensive growl of agreement.

"Definitely more." he said without dropping that feral grin. "You just have a really ******** punchable face." And of course it ran far deeper than that, Peyton just happened to project a social front which rankled Rep all the wrong way. There was a dichotomy of innocence and flirtiness in everything she did, simultaneously presuming to represent strength and femininity in one place. As far as Rep was concerned it was practically blasphemy and there were not many people on the island he would rather seriously defile and harm.

He did not try to explain it, leaving the statement at that, harnessing the toxic anger and keeping it close, a sensation not felt in such intensity since his encounters with Sasha. He rubbed his hand against the handle of the axe.

"As for Tracey." he said. "H happened to him." And once again he struck out. "He's no his usual self."

She couldn't have said why, but the knowledge that Rep considered her worth his violent time was pleasing. It spawned the first real smile of the day, and it was a cool, unfriendly little twist of soft lips. "So I've been told." The girl had a way about it that could at times come off as disingenuous, it rubbed some people the wrong way, and to a point it wasn't entirely untrue. There were parts of herself she tried to keep hidden from the world, parts that conflicted with the way she'd rather be viewed by her peers. Vanity, or shame, or something else entirely. She was still trying to figure it all out herself.

Some how news that it had been H that had damaged Tracy wasn't surprising. The good Dr. was powerful, and scary. Peyton never wanted to be at his tender mercy, because she didn't think he honestly felt any. It was just better not to find yourself on his bad side. "Will he heal?"

She was moving though, rather than waiting for an answer. Darting in close, jabbing at the arm that supported the great ax. Small, almost dainty attacks that didn't do a whole lot of damage, but would let her gauge his reaction speed and just how maneuverable his weapon was. Or at least that was the plan. It wouldn't work if he figured out that was what she was doing.

"Don't know." Rep admitted. "Was told maybe feeding this -" and he cut himself off, still afraid of Marie, still aware that at the crux of all of it, she was sentient and could be slighted. "- his weapon. Would permit Tracey to mend again." In the meantime it hurt, like deep hooks in the heart of him, in his mind, but he'd never admit that, never show his throat to the other hunter. He did not trust Pey, he didn't think she would actively do him harm, as some like Taym might given a chance, but he did not expect her to come through if he needed her, she had her own problems. Any weakness he demonstrated would be fodder for the next time they came to blows.

The strikes from her did irritate him, without his usual feral speed or abilities. On a better day he might have twisted the axe in time to deflect, but this was not his better days. Even as he gritted his teeth and swung, he was aware he was not working Tracey's weight the way he had been capable of, the subtle changes to shape and his own physical weakness causing him no end of trouble.

And it was maddening, he felt like a rabid dog on a chain desiring nothing more than to sink his teeth into her but unable to get traction.

And even more reason to stay the ******** away from H. Peyton logged that bit of information away as crucial, nodding more to herself than to him.

She wouldn't say anything else. Rep was moving again, and it lacked the fluid strength she'd come to expect from the large man. Tracy was not merely the weightless seeming extension he had always been, but possessed actual weight that the Death was having to work to wield. A noticeable handicap the girl could exploit and use to her favor. It was something she tried to teach in others, something she was good at.

He was bigger then her, stronger(usually), had a much wider range, but she had her speed. Digging into the patchy earth, she rushed him as he took a swing at her. Tracy's blades bit at her shoulder as she moved to duck beneath him, but she kept going, invading the hell out of his personal space. The closer the better, easier to attack, harder for him to avoid or dodge.

Multiple blows, hard and heavy and fast, as she closed in on him. Not just the sharp stab and cut of the dagger blades, but the hard impact of knuckles as well.

The speed and force from the attacks as Pey took advantage of his limited close range were exactly as he had expected from the Sun hunter. As much as he took personal umbridge with her and what she represented, her abilities were also not to be denied. It didn't help that close range was the absolute bane of his existence and left him fundamentally helpless.

His shield was taking a serious thrashing and there was only one way to do ******** anything at all about it.

He jumped.

It was always a startling thing, but was one of the key parts of his fighting style, rather than running he leapt, and it was straight up for several meters that he did so this time, twisting in mid-air with no small amount of physical strain to bring the axe around and aim it down before him, slamming into Peyton's shield with a snarl of effort.

Well that was unexpected. Rep jumped, as if the man had springs in his legs, and she squinted up at him before the large, looming shadow of the ax was crashing down on her, hard. It drove the air from her lungs, knocked her to the grown, and pulled a startled, pain groan from that tiny body that was followed by a soft wheeze as she regained her breath. Christ, even with Tracy damaged, the ******** could still hit hard.

<Peyton...> Warrick's deep vibrato purred through her mind eagerly, and Peyton smirked. She could feel the press of Fear the demon had stolen from Rep's shield, and she reached for it, called it sweet names to beckon it to her.

It had been a while. Most of her fights lately had been bare handed or straight up training against trainees and intermediates. Whatever charges she'd been gathering over the last month or so had sadly gone to waste, and Warrick was more than eager to share the Fear, practically shoving it into his partner with enough force to push her back to her feet as if someone had pulled her up by the strings.

And if he'd thought she was fast before, it was nothing to now. A near blur of blonde, pink, and the streak of glowing runes in her wake as she moved. Another barrage of hits, fast and precise. Tearing at his shield in painful little bites.

Rep saw the flash of runes and knew what was coming, but of course there was ******** all he could do about it, well aware he couldn't move fast enough to outpace the barrage of attacks that smashed into his shield and rattled him even through it. There was no way to escape it this time, even backing up simply meant that Peyton had more access to him. He did not like being helpless, panicking as everywhere he turned there was a relentless collision of solid weapon against his body.

When the attacks finally abated, he staggered and almost dropped to his knees - would have if it wasn't for having Tracey to lean ******** hell." he said, but mingled with the surprise was the deep and bottomless resentment, the cold malice he felt towards her for what she was, how she acted and what in his eyes she represented.

"I wish I could ******** get through that shield." he snarled, clenching his hands around the axe till his knuckles stood out white. He was out of breath, sweat dripping from his hair and all across his body, but he did not stop, he pulled the massive axe out of the ground and once again swung it with everything he had - which given the beating he'd just taken, was not actually all that much.

As the Fear faded so did the speed, and the unrelenting attack abated as the man staggered and had to cling to his ax to keep on his feet. Sweat dripping from his brow, breath coming harshly, Rep looked in rough shape, but Peyton looked almost daisy fresh aside from the wind swept state of her curls and the quick rise and fall of her thin chest. If she was tired she hid it.

It was almost disappointing. This was Rep, she expected more from him, but something was preventing him from going at her with the level of ferocious strength she knew he possessed, and it wasn't anything close to close to lingering fondness. Not if his tone was anything to go by.

Her head cocked at the snarl, lips tugging back in a cold, challenging smile. "And what would you do if you could?" It wouldn't have mattered if he could tear her down to nothing, the dampeners would have kept him from doing any real harm. At least here. It was why she slipped off into the town, challenged who she did. At least there she could indulge. Here, everything fell just short of satisfaction.

But that wouldn't keep her from trying. The ax came up again, sweeping in from the side, and again there came that shriek of metal on metal as she smacked her daggers against it, caught the brunt of the hit and deflected it away from her before it could do much damage to her shield.

<Like a feral dog.>

She snorted in response, following the wicked curve of the ax towards his body and went at him with one small arm cocked back.

"I'd ******** destroy that pretty little arrogant b***h face of yours for one ******** thing." He snarled through gritted teeth, in the instant vividly reminded of the things he'd done when he'd had Sasha at his mercy. "You'd never be pretty again when I got through wae you. And I bet you wouldn't taste half as ******** sweet as you think you ******** are."

He was cut off by the attack, keeling straight backwards as his shield shattered completely, hitting the dirt with cough as the wards absorbed enough of the blow to keep him both concious and alive. He was bruised, but he'd been bruised when he started and he rolled onto his side, giving her a sidelong look through an eye whose sclera was pooled with the blood from ruptured capillaries. "I'd find out what ******** lies under that ******** shell." he said with another cough that was also a laugh.

"Cause its no a ******** nice person, that's why you are alone again."
