Gormlaith waited with the other contestants with Kobold in his pokeball. She smoothed her hands down her outfit. She was wearing clothes she’d usually never wear but the shrine maiden outfit really did fit with the performance Kobold would be doing. She sighed to herself since the Volcarona only had a week to practice the edited routine. She had injured her foot during one of her missions and wasn’t able to dance along with Kobold like originally planned. It also displeased her that before that he only had a month to practice it since Vanadis had been unable to prefect the performance she was supposed to do. So some last minute switching had to be done. Next time she wouldn’t be using this bug no matter the fact that he had won a previous contest.
Would contestant number 2, Gormlaith Baines, please report to the stage! Repeat Gormlaith Baines to the stage!
With the loudspeaker announcing her turn Gormlaith slowly made her way to the stage. Once in the wings she released Kobold. They were opting to enter the stage with curtains open but the lights would be dimmed enough to where no one would see. The announcer announced Gormlaith and Kobold and they made their way to the center of the stage in the pseudo-darkness. The “music” she had prepped for the performance began to play with a loud crack of thunder. Soon a wind could be heard making it sound like a storm was happening.
Gormlaith kneeled on the stage taking her place for majority of the performance. Kobold began to fly around but since it was dark no one could see him. Suddenly he burst into flames for a minute and began to dance. He would move from spot to spot lighting the dark stage with his fiery, jerky dance. It almost appeared as if some angry god was making this storm. As he danced he flapped his wings a little harder and kicked up a strong wind. It was like a mini tornado or hurricane inside the hall, not that anyone could see it. They could hear it though along with the storm music. With this raging storm he continued to flit around lighting himself on fire to light the dark stage.
The crowd was beginning to grow restless after all they couldn’t really see anything other than the flickers of light Kobold made. Before they could begin to get really restless the stage lighting was raised ever so slightly giving it the look of a moonlit night. The crowd wasn’t able to see all that much other than to see the flickers of light was coming from the pokemon and that there appeared to be a wind funnel he was dancing around. It was then the wind funnel caught on fire. This was something planned and soon it looked as if there was a fire twister before them. The crowd gasped as they finally saw what had been happening in the dark. They looked around for the pokemon and its trainer and finally found the pokemon on the ground as if mourning something.
The fire twister grew weak for a moment and everyone saw what the pokemon appeared to be mourning. The trainer was in the middle of the whirlwind of flames! People gasped and murmured. Surely something had gone wrong! After all, the lady was lying on the ground as if injured or worse. Before anyone could do anything the ‘music’ crashed and the flaming hurricane grew stronger.
That was Kobold’s signal to move on to the next part. He ‘stood’ up and then lifted off the ground. A strange sound filled the hall as the Volcarona began to dance in the sky. The sound was caused by how his wings were being flapped and vibrated. He jerked from side to side and soon the dance smoothed out into something almost mystic. It was as if he was dancing to appease the fiery wind that had his trainer trapped. He was soon dancing right next to the flame twister. He went a little too close and the crowd gasped when he caught on fire. The flaming hurricane disappeared revealing Gormlaith sitting up and looking slightly singed.
The light about the stage grew a little brighter as if it was getting close to dawn. Kobold slowly fluttered to the ground where he collapsed in a heap. Gormlaith leaned over him and appeared to be crying over him. The music of the storm was gone now but one final noise was heard: the sound of a drop of water. Soon Kobold began to glow and Gormlaith leaned back so he could rise up. He began to rise up glowing brighter and brighter, lighting the stage like a rising sun. He stopped midair glowing brightly signifying the morning sun after a long stormy night.
The crowd had sighed in relief to see Gormlaith was alright but when they thought Kobold was injured they all held their breaths. With him rising up, clearly okay, they burst into applause. This surely had been a rollercoaster of emotions for them. Gormlaith stood up and gave a small curtsy while Kobold did a slight bow. They exited the stage where they were promptly greeted by contest helpers to make sure they were uninjured.
