Lex grew easily bored cooped up in libraries and offices; the infirmary could only provide so much adrenaline that could somewhat pass for entertainment. Most hours of the day, the man's booted feet were tapping against tile in a jittering non rhythm coupled with sporadic sighs.
He decided on one particularly bleak and boring day of no new research that it was high time for a few breaths of fresh air, and maybe some sort of physical activity barring pulls ups and weight lifting. He quickly buttoned his coat up, wrapped his scarf back around his neck from the chair he'd draped it over, and walked quickly out of the labs without a word to anyone.
Coffee in hand (thank God for working coffee machines), Lex took a seat on a small stone jutting up from the grass of the battlefields, observing for a time. Flashes of blonde and steel caught his eye, and the man eventually recognized the woman. Peyton Creedy, the girl from that weird dream sequence and Jack's...relation, if he could even say that much.
The Lifer approached, waving at her. "Ms. Creedy." He started, smile spread thickly on his face. "I'm not sure if you remember me?"

The dainty Sun had been doing drills. Repetitive, mindless motions that left daggers flashing in the light of the midday sun as she moved. Careful follow-through and fluid lines. For once this week she was not just senselessly hacking chunks of wood off the training dummies in fits of rage, but doing something almost meditative, calming. She was tired of the ups and downs, exhausted really. A this point she just wanted relief from the pain and the anger. A little peace and calm, was that too much to ask for? Her Jacket was folded neatly on a plush section of grass nearby. There was also a water bottle laying there, and her boots lined up beside that. She was bare foot as she moved across the patchy earth of the training field, and the fresh scar showed brightly against tanned skin on both the top and bottom of her left foot. The other, far more telling scar was covered by the tanktop she was wearing, and shorts rode high on her thighs. It was obvious she was in the middle of training. The sound of the voice drew her attention towards the approaching hunter as he waved at her, and she returned that smile automatically, unthinkingly, before actually recognizing him. Lex, the Life Jack and threatened to turn her into after she'd told him about the Red for the first time. She blinked up at him, watching his face, before answering back. "Yes, though I'm not sure we've ever formally met." A small hand was offered out to him as he drew nearer. "You're Alexei Jamil, right? Lex."

Lex took Peyton's hand, shaking it gently with a gracious smile and slightly raised brow. "Lex." He affirmed, hopefully making it clear that 'Alexei' was not what he went by. "I believe you were there for that, what would you call it, lucid group dream?"
Lex was only making pleasantries, the man knew where he'd seen Peyton before. Jack's descriptions were accurate, physically at least. Grey eyes flicked over her and her daggers, noting his scarred foot. Suns and all their scarring - sometimes he wondered if there were a monthly contest for who had the most scars. Maybe even a betting pool for who would get fresh injuries in the next week.
Leaving his musings be, he focused back on Peyton's eyes, half smile gracing his features. "Hard at work, I see?"

She nodded in answer. "Yeah, the mission from hell." Considering all their missions were pretty much awful, referring to one as hell was certainly saying something. Peyton recalled it well. Simon had died, Mark had died, Allan had been broken. Pey herself had had her leg crushed. Everything that could have gone wrong did, and at the end of it, when they'd all woken up, Astrid had been gone again. A break down had followed, and the discovery that her sister was indeed in a pod down in the labs. Her grin grew as he commented on her work ethic, and she brought a dagger up to spin it around a pair of fingers before grabbing up the handle again. "Always." For all her faults, the Sun was a hard worker, ambitious as hell. "And you? What brings you out of the infirmary and labs?" Not that Life couldn't go where they pleased or had duties outside the usual. She just didn't see it often. "Taking a break?"

The mission from Hell, indeed. Lex wasn't at all fond of the things he'd seen in that hallucination, but at least he had Ami to go home to. At least on that mission, he hadn't been turned into a Horseman. Unconciously, the man rubbed at the large circular scar on his chest. "Yes, a small break. Infirmary air gets stagnant, and half the researchers either haven't heard of the concept of showering or choose to ignore it."
Lex rolled his shoulders, inhaling through the nose. "Just needed some fresh air and exercise, really." He hinted, eyeing her daggers again. Quite sharp - they'd do some damage. Lex needed close combat practice.

She caught the flick of his eye, the hint in his words, and her smile melted into something closer to a smirk as she took a step back from him. "Well if it's exercise you're after, I can definitely help with that." Chuckling softly, she drew twin daggers up at the ready, one foot sliding back for balance. It was a casual sort of stance, but there was a sudden tension through her shoulders and core that gave away just how eager she was to face off against an actual opponent rather than continuing with the repetitive drills she'd been practicing. "What do you say, Lex. You wanna play?" She didn't know his weapon, or his style. The only thing she had to go off was the striped trim of his jacket.

Well, Lex thought as he shrugged his jacket off and quickly folded the garment, at least she was bright enough to pick up on another's intent. The folded coat was set aside, and Lex took a more reserved stance with arms drawn in close and legs poised to bolt when given the opportunity.
The pistol materialized between the small of his back and his belt, waiting to be drawn.

She waited for a weapon to appear in his hand, but they remained empty as he invited her to make the first move. It had her lifting pale brows at him in curiosity, but she didn't question him. "As you wish." If this was what he wanted, she would happily provide. Pushing off against the patchy lawn, Peyton rushed him. Quick didn't really cover it, the girl was fast. Faster even than was normal for a hunter of her rank. A gift from her partner, from the weapon bond they shared together. A closeness forged through countless battles, imperfect but unshakable. She charged forward, and when she reached that tall figure she jerked one delicate hand back to aim a harsh slash at his side, tearing at his shield. HP: 60 DMG: 8 CHG: 1/3

With barely any time to react, all Lex could do was throw up an arm out of sheer instinct, temporarily forgetting that she couldn't truly hurt him until his shield was broken.
Said shield cascaded sparks following the dagger's path, Lex regaining his breath. Well, this was certainly going to be a quick game - but he'd still play. The pistol was drawn fluidly, and the barrel exploded quickly but jittery. Lex wouldn't have much time to aim in this battle.

Firearms, great! Peyton hated firearms. She had a rather horrible track record where guns were concerned. Tended to have trouble against their wielders, or always had in the past. The blast of the gone at near point break range was startling, and the dainty Sun flinched, jumping, before trying to take a swing at the Life and missing. If he'd been going for the element of surprise with keeping the gun at the small of his back, he'd achieved it. HP: 56 DMG: CHG: 1/3

Lex's tense face eased into a smirk when Peyton backed off. He dropped the arm and jumped a few feet away from her, landing lightly and in a position that would let him run at a few seconds' notice.
"Didn't mean to startle you." He lied with a smile, keeping the barrel of the pistol trained on her. "I admit, you're faster than I'd thought - Mr. Hawthorn made no comment on your quickness."
Lex pulled the trigger twice, both shots crashing into her shield before fizzling away.

"******** firearms," she growled out through a grin that was more a baring of teeth. Not strictly aggressive, yet, but clearly irritated--at herself, not him--by having been startled. Jack's name chased away the annoyance from her features and replaced them with thinly veiled suspicion. "Oh?" Shots fired, smacking into Peyton's shield with painful stings, and she jerked into motion, making herself a moving target. "What did Jack have to say about me?" It shouldn't have been much. They had an agreement. Certain things that were meant to stay strictly between them. If he was running his mouth then she owed him for more than the letter carved into her rib cage. Closing in again, the Sun feinted, dipping around his gun arm so she could close in on his opposite hip, Hitting with the thick ring of the dagger's handle rather than the sharp blade. The blunt end of the dagger smashed into his shield, yielding a hiss from the LIfe as he stepped back, aim thrown off as she continued moving. He'd have to start leading his target, or go fire until he hit her.
< Spray and prey is for the weak of mind,I am far more refined. >
Lex agreed with the Griyphon, opting to take careful aim as he smirked at Peyton's suspicion, lips curling as he pulled the trigger and landed a hit that would have chipped her shoulder were the FEAR shields not present. "Doctor - Patient confidentiality, my dear." He crowed

The shot grazed her shoulder, pulled a hiss from the dainty Sun that didn't quite match the expression on her face. Fierce, certainly into the spar, but also amused. "Tease." You couldn't just bring the giant up and not share a little of the gritty details. That just wasn't fair! "So a doctor, huh?" If he wasn't going to tell her about Jack, maybe he'd share a little about himself. Peyton knew next to nothing about the man, just a name. "What's your field of specialty?" She could guess, probably, if the comment on doctor/patient confidentiality hadn't be nothing more than a joke. As she talked she was moving, keeping close, making him fork for the distance he wanted. Quick, she didn't have much trouble closing in on him, even with such short legs. Ducking in again, she aimed a sharp slash at the side of his thigh as she zipped around him. HP: 44 DMG: 4 CHG: 3/3

The taller Hunter cringed at the slash, backing up as she continued to pursue him. s**t, s**t. This was like being a newbie all over - he had to attack. Keep the pressure up so that the blades would back off.
"As I'm merely an intermediate trainee, I have no specialization." Lex replied, a small annoyance pulling the sides of his mouth into an unamused smile. "But that's not the answer you're looking for. Psychological health is what I prefer to dabble in."
He couldn't get a clear shot, not with the way she was swerving and making him fight for distance. The shots were blind, aimed somewhere around her feet but who knew how much damage they'd inflict.
