"Aha!" came a cry from an alley just nearby the park. A wide grin split the face of Chibi Urda, michief dancing in his red eyes as he stared down a little "target" that he'd made with some old hand towel rolls, tin foil and noodles that someone tossed after dinner. In his hand was a makeshift "sword" and he was in a fencing stance -- or what he understood to be a fencing stance from some movie he'd seen a few days back -- with an arm up and the other pointing his weapon at the opponent.

"The night is young, fiend," he went on, eyes narrowing as he circled his target. Or tried to. He hit the wall to his left and, after recovering and getting back into character, decided to walk toward the target instead. "And so am I! En garde!"

And he lunged.

The glowing dot on her compact screen said there was a basic senshi nearby, just around the corner as she paced down the street. Ida closed it with a soft click and let it fall against her stomach as she took the last few steps around the corner and caught sight of the boy she had been trying to catch up to.

Life had been... odd, since coming back. Dealing with things having hardly changed in that time, all the hoopla that had happened over the new year and her own fragile state of mind was difficult, at best. Her trip had yielded some benefit though, something to be hopeful about. It helped to throw herself into work like this as well, in doing what she could to support her faction. Something to do made it so much easier to feel more stable, more worthwhile with the foundations she had laid. It also helped take her mind off her friends in the hospital and the implications of the things the Negaverse had found out from them.

The sight that greeted her pulled her up and Ida blinked, finding a smile start to spread over her face. It was a chibi senshi... a young boy, and by the looks of it, playing a game of make believe. Later, she could be worried about him, out alone like this... right now, all she could think was how cute he looked, how innocent. Had she ever been like that? Probably not... that had always been Matthew, while she was busy playing mother to him.

"Hello!" Ida called as she raised a hand to wave in greeting.

He faltered, mid-lunge, at the sound of someone's voice. Urda turned his attention from the "creature" to the woman dressed similarly to "people of the night" as he'd taken to calling them whenever he told his stories to his friends. Not that any of them believed him, but then what did they know? Nothing, that was for sure. Surprise quickly turned into a brighter, more innocent smile as he straightened himself out and ran over, sword still in hand. In the back of his mind he could hear his mother's voice echoing "stranger danger," but while powered up he felt...not so kid-like as to have worries like "stranger danger." Besides, it hardly ever applied. He went up to random people in the arcade all the time and he came home every night in time for dinner!

So it probably didn't apply to such a pretty lady, nope.

"Hi!" he returned the greeting as energetically as ever. "I'd ask for your help to kick that thing's butt," the boy senshi said while pointing at his "opponent." "But I've got super powers, so I think I can handle it." He made certain to sound sure of himself, and was still smiling as he quickly added, "There's probably more around though, if you wanna help? I think it'll be fun! Whaddaya say?"

Ida smiled brightly as the young boy greeted her, friendly and open. He seemed unafraid, or even wary, of her... which was both nice and worrying. Such a cute boy he was...

"I agree, you can certainly handle this guy. I don't think we need to go looking for more just for me though. I just wanted to stop and say hi, find out what your name was." She lifted a hand to her chest as she introduced herself, then held it out to him. "My name's Ida. What's yours? I've never seen you around before, are you new, or just wandering further than normal? I don't get to meet a lot of chibis."

And really, the only ones she sort of knew were from her asteroid family, Florentina and Elvira. She hadn't had a chance to see either of them lately and it made her sort of wistful. She really needed to get back in touch with them, make sure they were okay, that they were doing okay as senshi. There had just been... so much going on recently. Some things she shouldn't have let drop had and she was still working to pick up all the pieces and put them together again.

Being out like this was part of it though... helping her get her feet back under her and back into some sort of routine. Routine helped... gave her something to ground her.

He was a little sad that she'd declined his offer to destroy more of his so-called "bad guys," but she certainly seemed friendly enough so he dismissed the feeling and nodded, liking the fact that she acknowledged his ability with handling his current target. Urda gave a wide grin and proudly puffed up his 9-year-old chest. "I'm Chibi Urda," he said, then extended a hand. "Nice to meet you, Ida! I'm usually around the park near my house, but I thought the city might be more fun!"

He quickly thought about what she said regarding chibis and eventually nodded again, a thoughtful expression crossing his young face. "I actually don't meet other chibis either," came his admission. He'd met a few senshi since becoming one himself, but so far only one other closer to his age. And she'd given him a lecture, too, which...wasn't all that fun.

"Are they more rare or something, is that why?" His face lit up at the thought. "Does it mean I'm special?"

The Eternal took the hand offered and shook it, smiling brightly at the young boy. He seemed nice and full of energy... it was hard not to like him immediately.

Especially when he said his name and it tugged at her memory, making her brighten. Urda... That was one of her asteroid family! And one of the senshi who had hung around the hospital, in the future-that-wasn't. She hadn't recognized him... five years was such a difference! He was so much smaller and more innocent, if that was something you could tell just from someone's face.

"Of course you're special." She laughed as she let go of his hand. Turning, she ran her hands down her backside to tuck her skirt and crouched down, leaning back against the wall of the building to make herself more comfortable while they talked. "Even if there are tons of chibi senshi that I just haven't met, you'd still be special. Each senshi is. All unique."

Smiling, Ida lay her forearms across her knees. "Did you know Urda was an asteroid? The one that you're named for? I looked it up on the internet once... its part of a whole asteroid family." She chuckled softly. "It just so happens, actually... that Ida is another asteroid in that family. I think there is like... fourteen of us? Or something like that. It was really interesting to read about."

The idea of being special would appeal to just about anybody, and perhaps more so for someone his age with as much, if not more, of an active imagination than him. The fact that she said he special at all, even though it led to a generalization, had him beaming at her. A bright, wide smile that he was prone to giving when he had started to like someone.

"Thanks! Sometimes I like to think I'm special, but my mom told me not to uh...'toot my own horn' or something. So now I just ask, to be safe."

When she took a seat he followed suit, taking the vacant spot beside her while she explained a bit about where his senshi name came from. The word "family" rang pretty loudly in his mind, and the curious expression he'd word while listening turned to something more...sad, than anything. Looking at Ida as family, even if it was a vague connection as senshi, reminded him of his late sister.

"So we're somehow related, huh?" he asked slowly as the cogs in his head turned. "That's kinda cool. I'm an only child now, so having an older sister again would be awesome!" His honesty at its finest, though he wasn't at all thinking that someone might be able to fill in the blanks with just those words alone. "Have you met anyone else from our asteroid family?"

Ida smiled as he sat beside her, relaxing now that they were talking.

"Its important not to be mean and assume you're better than everyone just because you're special, but its still good to know that you mean something to the people who care about you." She said as she nodded along. Maybe that would be hard to follow along for someone his age, but maybe not. Sometimes children were very clever, more so than adults liked to think, and could understand a lot.

"Our asteroids are related, yes, so I suppose that sort of makes us related to, since we're their senshi." Ida couldn't help smiling at him, though the hint of sadness in his face eased the expression, making her wonder what sort of family troubles he might have. "I have met a couple of others. The family is called 'Koronis'. There is a pretty long list of asteroid names on it, but so far I've met Bohlinia, Claudia, Florentina, and Elvira. Florentina and Elvira are young senshi, like you. They've all got flower spheres. Do you know what your sphere is?"

He didn't look outwardly like a flower type, but you never knew, she supposed. Maybe the representation was just less obvious. Considering all of them, she suspected a plant kind of theme, if not outright flowers themselves. Another hint that they were all related maybe? It made her wonder what it had been like in their past lives. Had they been friends? Had they seen each other often? Did they even know each other? It was interesting to wonder about.

He did understand, at least as much as someone his age would be expected to. Urda had never really been the type to brag, anyway. On top of his mom telling him not to, his dad always called it "bad form," and now Ida was saying almost the same thing. Two adults he loved and one he was starting to like was enough for him to believe that something was right.

His smile stayed, perhaps more subdued than it had been earlier the more he started thinking of having more family beyond just his own, as Ida went on to explain a bit more about the Koronis asteroids and such before listing off the names of those she'd met. None of the names were familiar, but slowly the sadness ebbed away to make room for excitement. All these new names meant more senshi to meet, more people to call friends and to patrol with.

It meant more family, in this case. At least that's how he was processing it in his mind, and it solidified his belief all the more when she mentioned flowers. His bright, wide smile was back as he nodded to her question before reaching between them to pick up the blue bulbous accessory that was attached to his sash.

"I think so!" came his more than ecstatic reply. "I'm the senshi of Blackthorn! I looked it up and it's a bush or tree or something that has berries and stuff, see?" he held it up to her to show her, then extended his right leg to show the neat design on his pants. "Neat, huh? Hey, so does that mean your sphere is also a plant or something?"

Ida looked obediently when he showed her, her eyebrows lifting as he mentioned the plant his sphere had taken. It was indeed a tree, or more rightly a shrub, that had berries. It also had flowers and thorns, thus the name.

"Yes, my sphere is a plant too, a flower actually." Ida smiled as she reached up and teased one of the flowers out of her hair and held it out to him, the petals soft and purple in her hands.

"My sphere is Orchids, which are flowers that look like this. They come in a bunch of colors, but usually white or purple. Actually, everyone I've met so far as something that flowers. Let's see..." Ida held out a hand and counted the Koronis senshi off on her fingers as she thought. "Florentina is Lilies. Elvira is Poinsettas. Claudia is almonds, which flowers like your shrub does. Bohlinia is Wisteria, which is a flowering tree. I suppose its not too surprising... our asteroids are related, so maybe thats why our spheres are related too. I think its kind of neat."

"Do you go out alone a lot, Urda? Like tonight?" The older senshi wondered, making an attempt to approach the subject delicately.

After a brief glance up toward Ida to make sure it was okay Urda reached out and took the little flower from her hand. It was easier to inspect now that he could hold it closer to his face. In fact, he held it so close his eyes were starting to cross, as though getting it that close to his face would help him see and understand it better.

"Orchids..." he mused, looking silly and cross-eyed before he finally pulled the little flower away. "Pretty, like you!" he followed then, grinning wide as he handed her the little flower again. His expression softened as she started listing the various names and spheres to him, and by the end of it he was sort of slumped over.

"There sure are a lot of us..." he started to say, his mind already processing how he would go about contacting and meeting them all. Because he wanted to, and because they were family! Sort of, even Ida thought it was neat! So that probably meant they should stick together. He didn't have too much time to be discourage though. Her question put it out of his mind for now, and he nodded enthusiastically.

"Yep! Almost always, but not every night 'cause I have homework and school and stuff. It's fun though, I get to roam the streets and protect people!" Not that he'd been able to do much of that last part. He'd never even used his powers in battle before; actually, he had very little grasp on how to use his powers at all.

The young woman smiled as she watched Urda study her flower, enjoying his innocence and simplicity. Her face warmed as he called her pretty and her smile turned shy.

"There are a lot of us." She agreed, turning her orchid over in her fingers when she got it back. "But that's good. The more senshi there are, the better. We can protect each other and fight together. It makes us stronger. Hopefully we'll both get to meet all of them someday. That would be nice huh?"

"So, um... do you do a lot of running around by yourself?" It seemed like a good time to broach the subject, talking about working with other senshi... Ida suspected she already knew the answer, but she still had to ask. "I used to do that too, but I got hurt a lot doing it. Its hard, when you don't have someone to watch your back, you know? Sometimes you can run into Negas that are stronger than you are and they will hurt you if they think they can get away with it... so its always better to at least got in pairs. At least until you get as strong as you can be."

She shrugged gently, wondering if that made any sense at all. It was hard to put into words sometimes.

His mom and all his teachers always did say "the more, the merrier" so Urda was more than inclined to agree with Ida. "That'd be really cool, yeah!" he agreed as enthusiastically as ever. His eyes fell to the orchid she was playing with in her hand, and for a second he kind of got lost in the watching. Her question registered a little late so he didn't get to answer before she went on to warn him about going out on his own. His smile went a bit lopsided and he looked up at her, eyes turned apologetic.

"I go out on my own a lot, yeah," he started to say as he fidgeted a bit in his seat. "No one's really been around to buddy up with, and I'm a super hero, right? So even if it's dangerous I thought I should still go out. All the heroes in the books do, and they meet people along the way that start helping them. I just wanted to be like them, I guess..."

He felt a bit more bad about it than he probably needed to be, but at that moment Ida sounded like his mom when she put on her concerned voice, and he really hated to worry her. That was why, aside from the obvious superheroes need to work in secret sort of thing, he didn't tell her that he was going out at night. And now he didn't want to start worrying Ida, too; she was practically family, right?
