Orpheus Solon

Samoset's first week as a Blade had gone less smooth as he'd envisioned it would have. His brother still refused to listen to him, he had a whole new list of responsibilities to tackle, and his elders were just as they had been before. Condescending and without regard to his well being. He heaved a sigh and resigned to sitting along a firm branch, an half-eaten apple clutched in his hand. How was he supposed to win all of these people over? Honestly, it was such a nuisance! Even his own father had a look of doubt in his eyes when he was presented his arrows! What was he supposed to do? Tap dance and juggle while bringing thirteen pounds of meat home at the same time? He bit into the apple harshly and tossed the core into the bushes below.

"Why doesn't anyone listen to me?" He grumbled, kicking his legs against the branch. "I thought I'd be some sort of leader by now..."

"Why? I'd put my money on the fact that you're an idiot as to why nobody wants to listen to you." Came a teasing voice from below the tree that Sam was sitting in. Aysun was sitting on the back of the new member of his 'animal army', the janarim named Maw. He shifted so that he could better look up at the one that was throwing things around... again. What was it with this guy and using ranged attacks against him? First with the arrows, now an apple core that had barely missed them. He should get the spear he had tied to Maw and jab Sam in the backside with it he thought to himself idly.

Shifting himself on Maw's back he starred up at the boy that was sitting up there, starring at him, before he gave a bit of a smirk, "So, why are you supposed to be a leader?" He had to admit he was rather curious what was going on inside of Sam's head, especially given that he seemed so perturbed about why he was a leader. Was that something those bug women were eager to do? Lead? Bah, thank you no, if it wasn't animals Aysun had no desire to lead anyone, he'd leave that up to the elders.

Samoset didn't want to believe it at first when Aysun appeared and turned his face away, more keen on keeping his sour mood than communicating with the other boy in any way. However, as Aysun spoke, Samoset's head slowly turned towards him and froze, a bitter glare on his face. This... This idiot, again. He just didn't know his place, did he? Speaking to Samoset in such poor taste... His hand went to his arrows but relented, first by pure self restraint, and second by the sight of Maw. W-what was that awful thing? He leered backward on the branch and swung down, his posture tense as stone as he made his way toward Aysun.

"Oh, it's only you. I was afraid you were someone important that needed my attention. My mistake." He said, his eyes turning to take another gander at Maw. "... What, in the name of Aisha, is that horrific creature? It looks like something from the gates of the underworld."

Aysun rolled his eyes, "Of course I'm important! I am already on the fast track to becoming the best rider in Yera." He said, giving a smirk as he looked up at Samoset, making a face at the other boy before he gave a laugh. He really was an annoyance, wasn't he? Acting so big and bad just because he was some sort of half bug person. He gave a snort before he looked away, a bored look on his face, before he waved a hand in the air, "I will forgive you for being such a big mistake, just this one time since I'm such a nice guy."

Leaning back on Maw he looked over his shoulder at the janarim, then back at Samoset, starring at him for a moment then snorted, "You're obviously blind, this is Maw, and he's the most beautiful beast that the world has to offer." He patted his hand against Maw's dark hide before he gave him a smile, "I will let it slide, you're obviously an animal hating idiot. So how about you just put a smile on your stupid face, Samoset, and aplogize to Maw! He's already been through enough!" He said, gritting his teeth slightly in annoyance.

Samoset arched a eyebrow and started laughing. The best rider in Yera? Was he joking? Talk about having your head in the clouds! There was no way Aysun would ever be the best rider in Yera. No one would ever give that title to a hybrid, didn't he know that? Hybrids weren't allowed to have prominence in Earthling societies, at least that's what Samoset figured. Who ever heard of a legendary hybrid warrior? There weren't any, and if the world continued to operate the way it always has, there would never be. He sucked in a breath and wiped at his eye before taking another look at Aysun.

"Oh, you should've been a performer! That was the best joke I've heard in a long time!" He exclaimed, shaking his head. "You've got some nerve thinking you'll amount to something of that nature, Aysun. Your tribe would never let you become the best at anything, that's reserved for those of pure blood. Why not set your goals for something more attainable, like, say, a dung cleaner?"

His smug expression faded as Aysun explained what Maw was, his eyes falling to his shoulder. His Alol, Tambri, had poked her head out from her comfortable space in his poncho to check up on the surroundings, and flicked her tongue about crankily. Samoset raised his finger and gently patted her head, hoping to temp the fussy lizard into another nap before he looked to Maw again.

"I'm sorry you need to put up with this mongrel, Maw." He said, giving the Janarim a false pout. "It must be so difficult dealing with someone who can't keep to his place. Simply tragic."

Aysun's eyes narrowed as he glared up at Samoset, "You're just like I am and if you think that mixed blood is going to hold me back then your pathetic and a coward. I am not gonna let something so foolish hold me back and if you do then you're not even worth talking to." He was not only insulting Aysun at the moment but also himself, not to mention both their twins. He wouldn't let this idiot insult his brother in such a manner, he'd punch him in the face first.

Reaching out he caught hold of the janarim's horn, using it to swing himself down onto the ground, "Besides, if you're going to be racist maybe I should fall to your level and use the nepitism card? I will be great and nobody can stop me, not given who my parents and uncles are." He said, sticking his tongue out at Samoset, not really one who wanted to fall back on his family, not when he was determined to get strong to protect his twin. He had to get strong on his own, but that didn't mean he couldn't say things as stupid as Samoset was saying.

Lifting his head he nuzzled against Maw's cheek, something that made the best respond in turn, something he'd learned was Maw's way of showing his affection. Scent marking something that he liked and wanted to keep as his own, "Don't listen to him Maw, he's obviously addled in the head if he thinks that anything is born with a 'place'. The Obans thought the same thing and they were wrong too." He kissed Maw on the nose, "Though I'm sure you're rider was likely a far better man then his king was." He added, not wanting to hurt Maw's feelings when it came to his lost rider.

Samoset scoffed. How was accepting his fate cowardice? Samoset knew and accepted his place in society and it was of absolutely no bother to him. Aysun, on the other hand, seemed to think he amounted to something other than what his blood dictated for him to do, and Samoset couldn't wait to see the day when Aysun would find his dreams were nothing more than the hopes of an overconfident hybrid. Maybe, if he was lucky, he'd be the one to squash those dreams and finally get him to understand his place. He smiled to himself at the thought and sighed.

"Watch where you put your tongue, someone might be inclined to cut it out." He growled, his attention turning to Maw. "I'm surprised that... Jaw, or whatever the hell you've named it, didn't just snap your neck in half just then." He paused sharply, his eyes growing wide at Aysun's final comment to the atrocious animal. "... It has a rider? Have you stolen this animal? Your kind really are a disgusting sort! First you people steal from the Alkidike fruit trees, now you tell me you stoop as low as to steal animals, too? Despicable!"

"Maw, his name is Maw." Aysun said, giving a roll of his eyes, "Three letters and he's too stupid to even remember your name, can you believe him?" He asked of Maw, as though the beast would find it as amusing as he did. Glancing up at Samsoset he looked rather confused, "Snap my neck? Why would he?" Why did everyone seem to think that Maw was some monster when he was actually an extremely smart, extremely well trained creature? Unlike those that Aysun raised or found their way to him there was no need for any sort of training, Maw came to him knowing all manner of amazing things, things that he was still discovering. His dreamy thoughts were interupted by what Samoset was saying and he had barring his teeth, giving a growl as a beast might when riled up.

"You're a moron if you think I would ever take him away from his rider for selfish reasons, Samoset! You're just eager to see the worst in everything, aren't you? Such a hateful person you are." He spat out, shaking his head before he turned to glance at Maw who was looking at Samoset at the moment, growling as Aysun had done. It was a reminder that the creature was a predator and at the moment saw Aysun as the leader, if he got too riled up Maw might take it as an order to bite Sam, not something he wanted to deal with. Reaching into the pack he was wearing he fished out a piece of dried meat, catching Maw's attention with it, then tossed it to the now excited janarim, "There you go, silly beast." He said, giving him a gentle smile before narrowed eyes were turned to Samoset once more.

After starring at him for a moment he said, "I see no reason to explain anything to you, I am sure you will just come up with some other mean thing to say that I don't feel like hearing." He waved a hand at him as though he couldn't care less what Samoset had to say any longer.

Samoset echoed the growl and reached for his arrows as Maw seemed eager to join in. There was no way in hell that he would be earning a bite from a creature as disgusting as Maw. He'd sooner stab himself than fall to Aysun, either, as a matter of fact. The Alkidike's back arched upwards as Aysun spoke, his antennae beginning to twitch wildly. No reason to explain? Really? Was Samoset supposed to take his word for it? He could feel his heels digging into the dirt as he held onto the last of his willpower and clenched his fists tightly. Aysun had to be lying, and if there was anything more in this world that Samoset hated, it was being lied to. It made him feel sick to his stomach. He stared the other boy straight in the eye and took a deep breath in.

"You're a filthy little liar, Aysun." He seethed, his shoulders arching. "Your refusal to explain yourself is merely a cover up, one that won't work on someone like me." His foot skidded forward against the growing tension in his knees, but his eyes still remained firmly upon the other boy. "You've got some nerve, you know? I have to say. Insistent, persistent, infuriating... Like an infestation of bugs that's just itching for eradication."

Aysun gave a glance at the arrows that Samoset seemed to be reaching for and he gave a shake of his head, "Don't you even think about drawing one of those arrows, Samoset." He snapped, shifting himself so that he was between Samoset and the the janarim who seemed to be quite caught up in the food that he had. He didn't at all care for what he saw as an out right threat to a creature who had been through enough already.

"I'm a liar? No, I just see no reason to tell you, you wouldn't care, few do when I tell them, and it's something that I've gotten sick of hearing." He said, then lifted an eyebrow at what he said, "Oh? Is that so? Are you going to come after me, Samoset? You gonna 'eradicate' me? Or maybe your bug women will take a note from the Obans and start a war? Maybe enslave people? I'm shocked that your lot were even fighting on our side."

How he wanted nothing more then to give him a swift punch right in the face, "I had given you the benefit of the doubt, thought you were a bit better then your brother, a bit nicer, but it seems I was wrong. Apparently anyone with Alkidike in their blood is born hateful and addled. Perhaps we should go, before you rub off on us and we end up... like you." He waved a hand at Samoset, as though becoming like him was a contagious disease.

Samoset's eyebrows furrowed into a tight, heated glare. He'd draw his arrows when he damn well pleased, no one, espescially Aysun, was going to tell him to keep them down. He drew an arrow and held it at ready, before assessing where his bow was, and grit his teeth at the rest of Aysun's words. Was any of that nonsense supposed to convince Samoset of anything other than that Aysun was guilty? His eyes scrunched shut and flared open, before his antennae shot straight up into the air.

"Don't flatter yourself, I wouldn't dare stalk you." He barked, leaning forward. "And we joined the war for the safety of our own kind and nothing more! Your kind happened to be there doing the same thing, which is all fine and good, but if you think my kind would stoop as low as the Obans you've got another thing coming to yo-"

"I had given you the benefit of the doubt, thought you were a bit better then your brother, a bit nicer, but it seems I was wrong."

He paused, Aysun's words smacking him straight in the face. Where had that stupidity come from? How dare Aysun compare him to his brother! Kennet was an Oban loving dissenter in the making that needed to be saved! Samoset was nothing like Kennet, no matter how much Samoset loved him! He grabbed his bow and aimed the arrow he'd taken for Aysun's stomach.

"Repent those words or you'll pay for them in agony!" He yowled.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 05, 2015 11:11 pm

"Just happened to be there? If weren't for us Earthlings they'd of marched through Jauhar and dealt with your tribe easily given their numbers and the beasts they command. Maybe that was our mistake! Maybe we should have let them through then we wouldn't have to worry constantly about having something so dangerous looming over us!" Not that he actually believed that, he'd never have bent knee to an Oban but he wasn't sure which was worse, those who declared their intentions or those were just a snake in their midst waiting to strike when nobody suspected.

Aysun looked at the weapon that was pointed at him before he gave a snort, "Are you going to shoot me, Samoset? Kill me?" He asked, then shook his head a look of disgust on his face, "You really are the worst, so eager to kill an unarmed man. If you think I am going to fall to my knees and beg someone like you for forgiveness you have another thing coming. You should just go back to your bug women, I'm they will enjoy listening to your hateful, racist words. I find myself tired of them, of you... and people wonder why I prefer spending my time with animals."

Samoset drew the arrow back, seemingly prepared to fire, only to allow himself to pause and listen to Aysun again. His antennae falling back was the first sign of his gradual relent, before his arms seemed to relax again. ... No, he couldn't kill Aysun. He wouldn't. He took a breath in and let it out with a furious, high pitched growl, and slammed his arrow back into it's holster. His antennae resumed their twitching as he spun to the side and clenched his fists, as if he were caught in the midst of inner turmoil. Why was he suddenly so nervous? Why did he relent just then? He could've easily shot Aysun, easily, and yet now he could barely breathe! What was wrong with him?

"Aisha have mercy, just, Aisha have MERCY." He heaved, before spinning around to face Aysun again. "You... I don't... What kind of dense, awkward people raised you to be so... So strange and mentally insane?"

He spat at Aysun's feet and let out another, lower growl.

"Oh, well, that's normal! It makes sense to spend time with your own kind!" He said.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 05, 2015 11:32 pm

Aysun wanted nothing more then to collapse in relief when Samoset put his arrows away, feeling quite dizzy now that he knew the crazed halfbreed wasn't going to kill him. Turning around he took a couple steps toward Maw, leaning against him. He hoped that it would seem casual though it was more that he could stay on his feet instead of falling over, "What kind? Pft, you have no idea." He said, giving a half shrug, feeling as though there was no way to describe his parents other them 'strange but amazing'. They were an interesting pair, if a bit distant from each other for various reasons.

Lifting a hand he pet Maw in a gentle manner, "Eh, it's not nearly as interesting, not to mention that I don't exactly fit in. You might not have noticed that but I am a bit weird compared to most people and not because I am of mixed blood, just cause I am... well, me." He gave a half shrug then dug into his pocket to get another piece of the dried meat out, giving it to Maw who was sniffing and poking at his pack, obviously wanting more to eat then the piece that he'd gotten. Maw, like all of Aysun's animal friends was a bit on the spoiled side.

Turning back to Samoset after he'd made Maw happy with the second snack he starred at him a moment then said, "Shouldn't you be leaving? No like you want to be here, right?"

So, that was it? That was it. IT. Samoset wished there was a way to convey his utter distress and confoundment that was immediately in front of him, like by flipping a table or tearing an entire set of shelves off the wall. But, no, he was in the middle of the forest with this animal hoarding nimrod who was just about the least flippable thing that could ever be flipped upside down, at least as long as his arms were upon that terrifying beast of his. Instead, he'd have to settle for a slight tilt of the head and resist the urge to swing from the trees like a maniac on the loose. Hopefully, the empty, disjointed look in his eyes would be enough of a clue as to just what Samoset was thinking as he watched Aysun simply resume the conversation as if nothing remotely dangerous had happened.

"... I'm still trying to figure out just... Like... How?" He stammered, his hands waving out in front of him as if they were a radar that could help him find his way through this sudden cloud of metal disturbance. "How do-I don't-" He simmered to the ground so he could be more on Aysun's level again and placed his head in his hands. Aysun was like a never-ending puzzle, one that refused to be solved. Just when Samoset thought he understood something about him, he goes and does something else! He'd never encountered someone so complicated before!

"Oh, no, I'm not leaving!" He barked, his attention suddenly snapping upwards again. "I don't understand you at all, in case you haven't noticed, and that just short of perturbs me. What makes you the way you are? Why are you so irritating? Why are you so dense and..." He paused, his lips scrunching up as he mumbled the end of his sentence. "Interesting...?"
