Jingo continued til he saw the town just up ahead. He cheered inwardly and then walked on. As he got closer, folks stared at him and some shut their windows, doors and fled elsewhere. Jingo ignored their rudeness and made his way to a side vendor selling apples. It was a little, blind old lady with white hair and cracked lips. He went to her side and tapped her on the shoulder. "Hello, miss. You are looking beautiful as always." He said with a slight smile. The old woman turned to him and croaked as she laughed. "Is that you, Jingo? Dear boy, you need to have your eyes checked." Jingo laughed with her and picked out a few apples. The little old lady was one of the only ones who didn't fear him. Of course.. If she could see she might not take to him like she did.
Jingo paid the lady and spoke with her a bit more before leaving and walking off. He kept his wits about him just in case some crazed person tried to challenge him.

xxxxx ❝ Elise stumbled out of the forest and finally caught up to the strange man. She still wasn't used to the idea of hiking. As they made their way into town, she noticed the reactions of the people towards Jingo. It made her frown and fairly angry. Weird. She had a chance to catch her breath when Jingo went up to a vending stall to buy some food. As they began to walk off again, Elise hurried to Jingo's side. "It seems the people are not very fond of you." Elise murmured quietly. She looked at Jingo's arm hidden beneath his sleeve. "Aren't you wounded? Don't you need some healing salve on that? It could be infected you know." She glanced at Jingo's face. "And don't take me too lightly. I may be a human and a girl, but I can stand up for myself." Elise smiled as a thought came to her. Jingo's gaze shifted over to the girl as he took a bite out of the apple he'd just bought. He had another in his other hand and tossed it over to Elise. "Kazune already gave me treatment. I'm fine, so don't worry about it." He said in his normal, uncaring tone. Jingo decided to ignore her other few comments about people not taking to him. However, he didn't believe he was anything like Ronan at all. "Gods treat everyone equal.. Or they are suppose to. He did not give me a chance and just assumed the worst. Hence, I gave him the bad guy he wanted. I lied straight to his face and when he believed me that was the proof I needed to know that he thought I was 'bad'." Jingo stopped walking and looked up at the sun, once again checking to see where it was in the sky.

xxxxx ❝ Elise caught the apple Jingo tossed at her, only before juggling it around clumsily in her attempt to catch it. She stared into the glossy apple. She wasn't quite hungry yet. She'd save it for later. "Thank you," she said. "For the apple."
Elise glanced at him before smiling. "Believe it or not, Ronan didn't give me a chance to prove myself either. I think he thought of me as a simple girl before we got to know each other." She let out a small laugh. "I also got him to bow down to me once." Frankly speaking, in that memory, she had told him that a box of medical herbs were underneath a table. Nonetheless, she enjoyed the sight of the god on his knees trying to find the box. She didn't dare to tell that to anyone though. "All high and mighty Ronan might seem, I think he was just being careful." She turned to see where Jingo was looking at when they stopped. The sun? Hmm. She turned back to look around the street. "I don't think you are as bad as you think you are or how to seem to it show to others"

Jingo ate his apple until there was nothing left but the seeds and stem. He started walking again and looked towards an inn a couple stores ahead. Bit by bit he let his guard down around the girl, assuming no one would pester him with the lovely lady around. "I will give your God another chance, only if I sense he is willing as well." He looked to her out of the corner of his eye. Her pouting face was amusing and he smiled a bit, before turning to not let he see it.
About the time they reached the inn entrance, he turned to her. "I never asked for people to treat me.. Different." Jingo looked down at the woman and then away. He lifted his sleeve and let her examine the wound if she wanted.
Prove to someone you are kind? Prove that you exist for only yourself? A choice like that was presented to him a long way back down the road. He had the freedom to a monster or to be a human. Still, his past plagued his future and he couldn't escape what people thought of him already. It had mostly to do with the fact that he once had been a monster.. But, was redemption possible?

xxxxx ❝Elise smiled. “I think Ronan would appreciate that.” Elise frowned, then fear filled her features as she thought of Ronan not being to accept of Jingo for a second time. The image of Ronan cynically laughing at her naiveness for letting Jingo give such a chance to him made her dread. Or perhaps her imagination was going too far. The Ronan she knew wouldn’t do that. Hopefully, it was the latter. “If not, which I hope he certainly doesn’t think that way, I appreciate you for giving him another chance.” Elise walked quickly to stay by Jingo’s side as they continued to travel down the street.
As the stopped in front of the inn, Elise turned to face Jingo. “Maybe that was in the past, but if people change for the better, as I hope people do. Perhaps the future can be much more different, in a good way of course.” As Jingo lifted his sleeve to show her his wound, her face lit up in delight. Was he trusting her? Was he going to let her bandage the wound? Or was he just testing her? What if she chose wrong? Would her new found friend leave? Was he going to laugh and walk off if she failed his test? Was it a test at all or was it a sign of goodwill? Elise stood there dumbstruck as she thought of all the possible outcomes. Most were not very bright. “Ah… Oh.” Elise remembered the bandage that had been dropped in the forest and took it out. “And, let’s see…” She searched her dress pockets for the little vial of salve she always carried. It always came in handy for her. She’d always find scratches on her hands, arms, and knees unknowing where she’d gotten them. Finding it at last, she placed them both in one hand before looking at Jingo cautiously. She placed her cool fingers on the wound and gently prodded around. She kept looking at Jingo’s face testing his reaction. “Does it hurt at all? It doesn’t look infected.” Elise took a closer look and smiled. “Kazune did a wonderful job. Jingo had a few good scars on his back and around his other arm. One of them looked liked a vine wrapping around his arm with thorns. It was explainable, but he wasn't sure if that would make him seem scarier or more attractive.. He didn't really care, most of them were covered anyway.
He most certainly wasn't over-thinking the simple act that she was doing. When her finger touched the deepest part of the wound he grit his teeth and flinched a bit. "Only when you touch it there." Jingo replied. He saw some people chatting as they looked over to them. He couldn't explain the reasons why everyone wanted to take care of his injuries now. If Jingo had to pick the worst wound he had.. It'd be the time his ribcage was broken apart and his heart almost torn out of his chest.. Yeah, that was definitely it. That cage was five times stronger than it should be on a normal human and it took a beast with a battle hammer to shatter it. Jingo could still recall the pain even now.
Jingo's eyes returned to what Elise was applying onto his wound. It was probably more poison.. Er, salve or something. Jingo was getting tired, after the woman was done he'd go and pay for his room. "Are you going back to the God? Or will you take shelter in town?" He only asked because he would be willing to pay for her room if she decided to stay.

xxxxx ❝ Elise generously applied the healing salve on Jingo's wound and firmly wrapped it with the previously discarded, but clean bandage. "This is a very good material." She said. "It's very high quality. Mmm, I think it's silk? Is it?" Elise finished tying the bandage and looked up at Jingo.
Elise shook her head. "No, I'm not going back to Ronan. I'm pretty sure I'll get myself lost in that forest. Besides, I have to help my uncle with our clinic." She pointed down the road. "It's down the road. It's close to the outskirts of town." She turned toward Jingo again. "You can come and visit us sometime if you want." Elise looked up at the inn. Jingo looked to her and nodded. "Yes. Kazune took it from one of his old robes. Spotless and perfect. Just what you'd expect from a God." He took his arm back after she was done. His head turned to the sun, yet another time. "Do you fancy him?" Jingo looked back to her with a slight tug at the corner of his lips. He had no room to talk, loving someone could be a beautiful thing. But even fruit becomes bitter over time and it can fade so easily. "I wouldn't mind visiting you. Just keep your God chained to his throne. I wouldn't be there to see him." Jingo's lips completed the smile, almost giving a hint that he was joking.
He wasn't sure how to repay her for her kindness. It wasn't something he could come out and ask, she would surely turn him down. Taking her for dinner would be.. Too much. Maybe if he just gave her money? No, that could very well be rejected too. "Yeah. This is my spot. I travel much so I don't like to have a permanent home." He said, pushing his sleeve back down.

xxxxx ❝ The girl tilted her head in confusion. "Love who exactly? I'm not quite sure what you mean by that." Elise stared at Jingo before placing both of her hands on the sides of his face. She failed to hide the joyous smile growing on her face. "Why Jingo, is that a smile? Are you smiling? This isn't a trick of the light is it?" Elise let out a small laugh and let go of his face. "You should smile more. It's quite handsome on you." She looked down and interlocked her fingers together. She didn't want to scare him off with her uncontrollable actions. Elise felt more at ease knowing he'd be staying for a little longer instead of running off immediately. "I expect you to come visit now that you said you would!" The girl smiled. "And don't worry about Ronan. To Jingo's surprise he didn't shy away from her gentle touch. For the brief moment he felt her hands on his skin, he couldn't deny a feeling lifting his foul mood. In that moment he was at peace. If only for a while, he wished it could last. How long had he been craving contact from someone who did not fear me or want to harm him? Jingo's eyes were locked on the woman as he tried to sort out the feelings piling onto each other. "Ronan.. Do you love him?" For some reason those words were easier to say in his head.
All those feelings he'd felt in just one moment, came crashing down when he thought deeper into what was happening. It was dangerous for him to be so close to people. That same wall came back and he was on guard again. Jingo took a step back and bowed his head to her. "If you ever need to venture into the forest, I'd be happy to be your guide." His payment to her would be as a protector if she ever needed it. He had doubts, Ronan could protect her just fine.
Jingo's mind wondered back to her comment about him smiling more. No, only certain people deserved to see him smile kindly. In fact, only certain people earned it. Elise was one of them. He shouldn't trust her too easily though. What if she turned evil somehow? No. He didn't want to think of those things. His past most definitely plagued him. Jingo looked to the side.

xxxxx ❝ Elise shook her head quickly. "No!" She stopped and laughed. "No. Well, I mean. I do love Ronan, but in a way a sister would love an older brother, that's all." She hadn't really given their relationship a second thought other than that. He was her mentor, teaching her how to improve her healing skills, and she was his student. Elise looked at Jingo curiously. "Why did you want to know that?"

His eyes met her's, but he quickly looked away again. "It would be a mistake for you to not consider his feelings toward you. If he didn't see you as a sister..." Jingo was no expert in love, but he certainly didn't want to get mixed up in something. He looked at her and then smiled slightly. "Goodnight, Elise." He bowed his head to her once more and then walked inside the building. Jingo figured it might be best to just leave things at that. He needed to think about the next day. His employer would most likely be angered. Jingo never met his deadline.

xxxxx ❝ Elise looked down at her feet and nodded thoughtfully. She was certain Ronan didn’t feel anything more for her than she did. Was she wrong? She could always bring the question to Ronan himself. Perhaps she would do that when they next met. Elise smiled and waved. “Goodnight Jingo. Sleep well.” She watched as Jingo went inside the inn. Elise lingered for a moment longer before head down the street. The day’s events replaying in her mind. She had met another god and had gained a friend. It was a good day in her eyes. ❞ [Elise exits]
