The day dawned suddenly for Amelia as the restlessness of her dragon finally grew into a primal urge that woke her from slumber. The sun was just up, staining the sky a beautiful colour of orange and peach, and Sharath was fidgeting in her bowl of sand. Her hide was gloriously shiny, her eyes whirling an intense shade of purple as she rumbled and rose without a word to wing over to the nearest flock of Wherries.
Amelia was left standing in the door of her hut, leaning against the doorframe as the now-familiar need rolled through her. She bit her lower lip and closed her eyes, focusing on controlling Sharath's wild nature.
The queen bugled twice as she took down one Wherry, scattering the herd, and huffed, tossing her head as Amelia brought her will to bear and reminded Sharath to blood the kill only.
Two more Wherries fell before the Queen before she took to the air, roaring and bugling, summoning the males of the Weyr to her. Her males, her flock of dragons, would come when called and they would chase...
Sharath bugled her challenge once more, rising higher and higher into the sky. She was gold, she was proud, and she was NOT so easily caught as the larger queens!
Amelia looked on in a daze, hoping that the other goldriders had had the sense to take their queens away... Sharath was incredibly territorial in Flight, and picky too.

blue Zanglith
H'ten was sound asleep when the bugle of a dragon woke her, soon followed by another. As she sat up, trying to figure out what was happening, her dragon supplied the answer.
Mine! Sharath is rising! His tone seemed far too chipper for the early hour.
Sharath? Isn't she a gold? H'ten answered, not looking forward to his response.
Yup! I think I'm going to chase her, he informed her. He had been sitting in his wallow, looking toward the glowing queen and now he got to his feet.
H'ten groaned and put her pillow over her head. Why bother? You're a blue, you'll never catch her. Can't we just go back to sleep? she groused.
Why? Because it seems fun! I haven't chased a gold before, I don't think, was the mater-of-fact answer. And before his rider could protest some more, he took off, winging his way towards the queen, who was beginning to rise into the air now. The conversation, brief thought it was, had slowed him down enough that he was not one of the swiftest to rise. But the flight would go on for a while yet, and he didn't expect to win anyway.

(posting from work!)
As the early call to chase surged through his bond with Calanoth Z'fer smirked bitterly to himself. He'd never had to act on his promise not to let Calanoth fly another gold as he and his previous weyrmate had split not long after the last gold flight of Trine. It would be Sharath this time. She'd been showig signs for days and the weyr was abuzz with gossip about her possibly ousting Abigail. He wondered if the transferred rider would be open to company?
Z'fer took the time to at least get dressed fully before he left his weyr. Even if she didn't, He had a couple names of ladies who might.
Calanoth had already flewn to the feeding grounds and was waiting with barely restrained anticipation for Sharath to take off. When she did he launched himself after her with a mighty roar. Let her see he was the first and moat dedicated to answering her call!
Wait... What was that blue doing?!

12, 14, 2, 12, 13 --------------------- When the Queen took off and was followed by the first of her suitors Brumath watched, his eyes slowly shifting from dull blue through to purple. It always struck him as strange to see blues chasing after golds but there was a kind of beauty to it, seeing males of all colours striving to impress the Queen. Enough observation however, this was a chase he intended to participate in himself. Letting out a low melodious call the old brown stretched, bunched his muscles, and launched himself into the air after the soaring gold. he sent,
For his part, F'itz finished combing his hair before putting on his shoes and stepping out of his weyr. It wouldn't do for him to go out in a state of undress flight or no flight, there were standards to be kept.... Standards neglected by some others, he noted with a slightly sour twist of his mouth as he looked up to see blues giving chase. He would never understand why Trine indulged them so.

It pleased Sharath that even the blues were answering her challenge. The males of this Weyr were hers, and hers alone... they ALL recognized her brilliance. She crooned at her suitors, blue and brown and bronze alike, dipping a wing to bank in a slow arc, neck stretched to take stock of those who had taken to the air so far.
Zanglith was eager, and though behind the others, his bright hide was not missed. The gold made sure their gazes crossed and she bugled encouragement to him, flirting shamelessly.
Calanoth's roar was might and loud, the great bronze largest and boldest among her harem thus far. To him, Sharath hissed and roared back, teeth flashing as she turned away with a flippant flick of her tail. He was bronze, yes, but she was gold and she wasn't so easily trapped by flashy dragons.
Pumping wings to gain speed once more, Sharath climbed then dove, wings folding as she plummeted. Gaining speed so swiftly it seemed she had suddenly collapsed from the air and yet, at the last moment, the queen pulled out and rocketed out across the forest, wingbeats whipping up the leafy crowns in the backwash of her passing. The gold was no simple chase, she enjoyed the challenge.
Brumath's comment rippled across her mind and she purred in response, sending back a honeyed thank-you as she beckoned him forward, demanding he tell her more.
Amelia, in the meantime, continued to stand at her door, dishevelled and still in bedclothes. Her eyes remained closed as she saw and felt through her dragon, the sheer thrill of the flight... of the acrobatics, and the drunkeness of power that surged through them... all eyes were on the queen and for once, both Amelia and Sharath reveled in it. Amelia had never been particular about the end events of a flight, her dragon picked true and she trusted Sharath... the gold demanded quality in everything she did, including this.

She wanted more? Well this was her day, her wish was his command so far as his abilities extended. As he spoke Brumath strove onward and upward and then, when the queen plunged, he hastened to follow as best he could. Speed was not his forte but he was patient and he was enduring, he would not give in so easily.

Zanglith
When Sharath gave him an encouraging bugle, Zanglith trumpeted cheerily back. If she welcomed his company, he'd keep flying! Her attention spurred him on, urging his wings to greater speed. As she dove, he was quick to turn and follow her.

Set'al had spent the past several days trying to convince his dragon that maybe, just maybe, they should accompany Narisa and Cepheith, but while Pipith agreed on some points of his rider's argument, he was still Pipith, and Pipith chased everything. Maybe one day Set'al would manage to talk him out of it, but today was not going to be that day.
Pointedly dismissing his rider's annoyance - Oh, go lock the door if you're going to be that way - Pipith shook himself awake when the Queen's call went up, and bugled as he took to the air amongst the other males. Nothing impressive, yet, but he was up and trying.
And there were blues. Hmph.

Message received and challenge accepted! His whirling eyes picked up speed, glowing a vibrant purple against his pale bronze hide. He snapped back with a surge of appreciation for her show of ferocity. He'd show her that southern dragons were made of tougher stuff than those whimpering tail-kissers up north.
Calanoth surged forward, determined to maintain at least a close lead even with the speedy blues suddenly fluttering about like they really had a chance. The large bronze sent a warning glare to the closest. They could pretend all they wanted but if they got in his way he'd show them no mercy.

He heard the cry. It was time for him to try. Would he succeed? Only time would tell. Following suit of the other males, the large blue called in answer to the golds. He would show them what he is made of.

Troiseth listened to the others. A prank maybe...No the gold was getting ready to find her mate! He barely noticed the fact that Neptanth had already made his way to join in the flight. Looking up, he caught sight that he was already behind. Not good.

Sharath rumbled at Brumath, crooning as his words caressed her, the flattery doing much to turn her favour towards him. But then another bronze joined the chase and swiftly overtook the others to be among the foremost fliers.
She hissed at this eager challenger too, demanding he show her something more, something worth note. The gold roared her encouragement at Pipith then turned her attention to gaining distance on the pack, wings pumping and carrying her high once more, hide flashing in the morning sunshine, low hanging clouds swept into streaks as she winged through them.
More blues joined in as she bugled again, the trail of dragons behind her in a flurry of colours. One blue in particular caught her attention as he rose and pushed himself to challenge even the bronzes. Sharath sent a warble at Solanth, stuttering in flight to pose briefly before allowing herself to sweep into a falling dive once more.
