Lapis looked upwards as she checked the light filtering down from the waves above. Not even midday yet, and she'd had enough of minding the aid station for the day. She huffed and blew out a stream of bubbles and glanced back at where her mother was tending the shelves. Medicine really wasn't her thing, unlike her parents. Then again...not much seemed to really be her thing, a fact that kept her up at night. It didn't seem fair that everyone around her was so focused and had already figured out their lives by the time they came of age and yet...she just couldn't find that one thing that sparked her interest.
Not that she was alone in that fact. Her brother was about as lost as she was to be fair, and even in their late night discussions had they ever managed to find that one thing that made one of them stop and go "Eureka!"
She tossed her head getting her mane out of her eyes, at least the strands with beads on them had a tendency to stay the most out of her face, but as her mother so often commented she'd gotten her mane from her and it was prone to doing what it wanted, not what she wanted.
She bobbed a bit in front of the cave and then shook her head. "I'm going!" she called out and then darted away not even waiting for an answer from her mother, Keeva. She folded her front legs against her body and shot upwards towards the surface like a missile, powerful strokes of her tail propelling her upwards. She broke the surface so fast she managed to get decent air time and she cried out exuberantly before diving back into the water. So much better than being cooped up in the grotto all day waiting for an emergency that may or may not happen.
She twisted her body doing a barrel roll then tried to decide what to do with the rest of the day, going back obviously not an option. Maybe a trip to the shoreline? It wasn't a trading day...but that didn't mean there couldn't be something of interest happening along the shore, or some bauble or trinket washed up from a storm. There had been that good squall a few days ago. That was why the colony was so abandoned for the day, everyone out looking for new wrecks or checking old ones to see if anything had been revealed or shifted around. Could always go out that way and see if anyone wanted help...
She frowned a bit then made a decision. She'd probably be a bother to anyone actually searching wrecks. They all had their own systems and she'd probably just get in the way. That left the beach. She smiled and then corrected her course and started for the closest beach.
