Nuawahn wandered, as he always did. Today, it was Jahuar, and today was a good day. Why it was good was a mystery beyond the young healer's comprehension, but he didn't need a reason for it to be good. All he needed was its goodness.
Glowing mists filtered through the thick canopy, dancing through the trees that lined the main-travelled road through the jungle. Nuawahn skipped through it, without a care in the world.
Because today was a good day.
“Ribbit!”
The loud sound surprised Nuawahn, and he did a double skip, nearly tripping over himself. He pinwheeled, laughing at his own reaction.
“Silly me!” he commented, looking at where the noise had come from, “Its just a spitorog.”
Since it was indeed a good day, Nuawahn had no obligations, nor anywhere to be. Memories tugged at him, but did no more than hint that maybe, at some point, he should go to Sauti. Nothing more. He had nowhere to be.
And so he, unburdened by life and troubles, trotted over to the sound, just to investigate.
"Ribbit."
"Ribbit!" mimiced Nuawahn, giggling, as he pushed back a piece of grass and the little beast came into view. It lay on its back, wiggling its stubby limbs uselessly in the air. "Oh no!" Nuawahn said, "You poor thing." he squished through the mud and crouched, fitting his nimble hands around it. "I'll help you, don't worry!" he said, managing a grip that would not risk damage by the spines on its back. "See?" he said, flipping it over deftly.
It stood there for a moment and then, indifferently, bounced off into the eternal Jahuar dusk.
Nuawahn giggled, and returned to the path, continuing on his way.
