For as long as she could remember, Padma and her family had lived in Yera - alternating between staying with her papa in his treehouse, and her mama and grandfather. She couldn't remember a time when their family had all lived under one roof - but at the very least they all lived in the same town, so growing up she felt nothing strange about the arrangement.
The last few nights, momma had been working on something - so Uja and Padma had stayed with their papa, who had become much quieter, looking at the two with a strange expression on his face that Padma couldn't understand. But come morning, off they went together to stay with mom for a few nights - Padma trying to hold Ujana's hand, as their father insisted, for safety as they crossed the walkways that tied the houses together.
"Momma, we're home!" Padma called loudly, waiting behind Ujana so the other girl could shove open the door to their house.

Ujana shoved the door to the house open harshly and bounced inside, undoubtedly shaking the foundation of the house below, or in her mind at least she was. The pony-tailed youngling bobbed through the sitting room and toward her mother's room, where she had a hunch her mother would be practicing, and barreled her way in.
"MO-THER! We're baaaack!" She exclaimed, throwing herself upon Pahana's shoulders. "Did you miss us? Huh? Did you?"

Pahana turned her head at the sound of her daughter's voices and placed the dress she had been folding onto her bed with a sigh. Most of her favorite things had already been packed away in bags that sat at the edge of her bed, but there was still so much more to do before the big day came. She turned her attention to the door as Ujana's footsteps came closer and took a deep breath in as it came flying open.
She could do this... She could do this.
To say that she was used to being tackled by Ujana was an understatement. She let out a laugh, shook her head, and gave both girls a kiss on their cheeks.
"Of course I missed you two! I always miss you girls!" She cheered, scooping them up into her arms. "How was your dad? Anything exciting happen?"

As expected, Ujana left a whirlwind of activity behind her -from the rocking door that nearly smacked Padma in the face, to the creaking of wood under her feet as she clomped around. Padma felt Uja tried to step as heavily as she could so that she felt heavy, or big - to Padma it was just silly. Following after her, though, Padma was just as eager to jump at their mother, shouldering Uja aside until both girls were situated in their mother's embrace. Padma wriggled at the kisses, smiling, then bounced back a step, hand loosely fisted in her mother's silky clothes.
"There was a lady with a sprained ankle - daddy used some bandages I sewed on, and she said they were pretty!" Little twigs and flowers had been embroidered out of messy looking dyed thread - at first he had been mad that she'd practice sewing with his bandages, but he had calmed down when he realized that it was the sterile thread he used for sewing wounds, and the bandages were still functional.
Not that it had saved her from a half-hearted rant, but Padma always got off his fussing easily compared to Uja.

Ujana wiggled into her mother's embrace and giggled at the kisses. Her mother was always so cuddly, not that she really minded it, she was very much the same with the way she expressed her emotions, even if she was a lot more rough with the way she behaved. The youngling paused as her sister spoke and a cheeky smirk crossed her features. Oooh, yeeeah, Padma got a stern talking to from daddy! That had been the highlight of their entire visit with him! She giggled, wiggled about, and stuck her tongue out.
"Yeah! Padma got told off instead of me!" She laughed, making a face at her sister. "I almost couldn't believe my ears, mama! Daddy was so mad, I thought he was gonna explode!"
She made another face, a mock-grumpy one, and shook, before breaking into a giggle.
"You should've been there! It was hilarious!" She exclaimed.

Pahana's face appeared shocked as Padma spoke, but gradually softened into humor as Ujana more or less shared her side of the story. She knew Uquin well enough that he would never 'explode' as Ujana had demonstrated, he didn't seem the sort. After all, he was a healer, he couldn't just go on a tirade about every little thing if he was with a patient... Come to think of it, though, Rastian had quite a temper, even when he was handling his patients... Nah, there was no use comparing the two, they came from two completely different upbringings and cultures. It would be like comparing apples to oranges.
"Oh, I'm sure Uquin didn't get that angry, Ujana." She sighed, tousling Ujana's hair and turning to Padma. "But from now on, Padma, you should ask your father for practice material before using anything, okay?"
Her eyes turned towards her bags by the edge of the bed and a smile curved it's way along her face.
"Hey, speaking of practice material... Would you like to borrow some of my old clothes, Padma?" She asked, reaching for a bag. "They don't fit me anymore, so, you could decorate them as you like. How about it?"

Padma turned and stuck her tongue out at Ujana, pleased that her mom was smart and hadn't fallen for Ujana's version of what happened. Once her mother turned back to her thought Padma sat straight up and nodded, smiling brightly. "Mmhm! Okay!" Papa had said the same thing, so she was prepared for the advice.
At first, as Pahana turned to look at her bags, Padma took the change to stick her tongue out at Ujana again - just because.
Then mama offered HER clothes. Her beautiful yellow, green, and pink outfits. Already her little mind anticipated how fun it would be - only for her to stop her fantasies when mom pulled a bag over. Why were her clothes in a bag? Usually they were folded in a crate in the house, but looking around she only now realized how empty the room was. "Oh, yes! Yes please, I -- mama?" She stopped mid sentence and looked at Pahana again, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

Ujana wrinkled her nose at Padma before furrowing her brows at the bag. What was all her mother's clothes doing in a bag? She folded her arms and gave Padma an awkward glance, before reaching out to give the bag a tug.
"Mama, clothes belong in drawers and closets, not big bags." She stated, shaking her head. "Someone could come in and steal all your clothes if you keep them in a bag! You don't wanna be dancing naked, mama! That would be weird!"

Pahana watched as the smiles on her daughter's faces turned quickly to confusion and gently nudged Ujana's hand away from the bag. While Ujana had a point, she was about as far off the topic as humanly possible, something that had Pahana stifling a laugh. However, the time for laughter wasn't now, and as she searched for the words to begin the sentence, it seemed that the time for any sort of humor would be postponed for a while. The rogue placed her hand limply on top of the bag and gathered herself, before pushing a smile to her face.
"I... How do you girls feel about... Uh." She stammered, mentally kicking herself for her clumsy way of speaking. "... Girls, mama's going to move to Jauhar to be closer to uncle Yaho and auntie Tahigwa. That's why my clothes are all packed away."
She paused, taking a deep breath in, and glanced between her daughters. How would she go about the next part? How would they even react to the first bit of the news? She heaved a sigh and bit her lip.
"And your daddy and I want to know which one of you wants to come with me." She said.

Although Padma prided herself on being 'more adult' than Ujana, her sister had a point! It would be so easy to steal all mama's clothes, and dancing just wasn't dancing without all the pretty skirts and sashes! Nodding in agreement, Padma looked at her mother earnestly, only to open her mouth in confusion at the explanation. Moving? To Jauhar?
She wrinkled her nose. They had all gone to that camp where everyone was so grim looking - where she had met Papa's friend Mella. She hadn't liked it - it was hot and rainy there, not like here where rain came during a season and she could huddle inside and watch out the windows, only getting fine mist on her face. She already was pouting, shaking her head obstinately - but she had been thinking they were ALLgoing. So when she mentioned 'daddy', and who wants to go just with mama - Padma blinked. "When is daddy coming?" She asked, not quite understanding that Uquin wasn't coming with them.

Ujana watched her mother's body language, and slowly leaned herself backward, her head tilting to the side. She was moving to Jauhar? Why would she want to leave Tale? The youngling pursed her lips and continued to eye her mother until her final sentence, her eyes widening an arch or so. Which one of them wanted to come? What did that mean? She leaned forward and pressed herself into the thought and only looked up when Padma spoke. Mmm, no, that didn't seem right. Mama didn't seem to be thinking along with Padma, but, what else could she be thinking?
"I don't think daddy's coming, Padma." She muttered, before turning to look at Pahana. "Just... Me and Padma?"

Pahana's heart dropped as her daughter's fell quiet and looked to her with questions she didn't know how to answer. She knew she had to answer them, this couldn't go without answering, but how was she supposed to deliver the news? Was this really the right thing to do? She let her head hang lower than she would've liked as she wracked her brain and tried to piece together the words to say, only to let out a defeated sigh.
"U-Ujana, Padma..." She said, moving to wrap her arms around her daughters. "Uquin isn't coming with me to Jauhar, he's staying here. ... We've talked about this, he and I, together, and... I can only take one of you with me to Jauhar because your daddy would like one of you to stay with him. We just... Need to know which of you would like to stay where. It's all up to you."

Padma wrinkled her nose in thought, looking at her mother after she asked her question. Her mama didn't answer - not fast enough for Padma's liking, so when Ujana mumbled that daddy wasn't coming, Padma made an alarmed, affronted sound in her throat. She had begun to pull away, but was suddenly scooped up, along with her sister, into mama's arms - and despite wanting to wriggle out and throw a fuss, she instead sank into Pahana's arms, hiding her face in her mother's chest.
For a long moment she just listened, but her mind was turning in somersaults. Finally, she pulled away and looked up at Pahana, clearly upset. "That's dumb! Why are you leaving? I don't want to go - you shouldn't go!" If she had been standing, she would have stamped her foot for emphasis, but since she was sitting in her mother's lap she instead wiggled her way free of Pahana's hugging arms and instead sat with a grumpy 'hmph' on the wood floor next to her, giving the bag of clothes a moody shove so it slumped to the ground noisily.
