Sneaking out of the room where Hvergelmir was being kept seemed a lot harder than sneaking in had been. Kadyrelite glanced around carefully and crept through the darkened funhouse, grateful to have had her chance to ask all the questions she'd wanted. The empty water bottle wasn't the best thing to have on her, but with luck, anyone seeing her with it would assume that she'd been drinking out of it herself while doing her guard rounds.
With luck...AMItotic Start for you~ Sorry it is so tiny.

The Negaverse could not be trusted.
Not to say that the institution as a whole was corrupt, Zircon brooded, but there were those wearing the same uniform as herself willing to disrupt entire operations for the sake of sentimentality. There was no room for sentiment here, not on a mission as important as this. The deed had already been done, why then were so many turning to guilt? It was pointless suffering, and it was dangerous folly. But when folly reared its head to her own personal projects, sabotaging everything she had worked and suffered for, she found she had no choice but to be vigilant.
There was weakness everywhere, and only she knew how to find it, to snuff it out.
Hvergelmir seemed to be a beacon for potential dissenters and defectors, and so Zircon had begun keeping watch over whoever chose to visit her, whether to interrogate or fulfill some other purpose. Many of these people she could not frame one way or another, being of higher rank or greater station, but when she caught the sensation of a lieutenant passing by she'd known she'd found something. Those weakest in Chaos's army had such little willpower to resist Hvergelmir's call, the poor things. Zircon would have to make a correction or two.
She waited until the lieutenant's aura passed the room where she'd been waiting, and then stepped out into the hall, her bootheels clicking dully on wood and sawdust. "You're not on the roster for guard duty," Zircon hissed, clicking on her lantern like she might have been a disgruntled mother catching her child sneaking in after hours. "So just what are you doing here? A little sight-seeing?"

Letting out a tiny shriek of startlement, Kadyrelite spun around at the voice and sudden light. Yellow-green eyes went wide as she saw exactly what she'd been hoping to avoid: a higher up. And one who was decidely put out to be there.
Oh bloody hell...
Snapping to attention as smartly as she could, she winced a little as she dropped the water bottle. The Captain knew she wasn't on the roster, so there was no point in trying to lie. Besides, lying did not go over well within the Negaverse. She knew that much, at least. Best be truthful, she supposed. And hope that the Captain didn't ask questions she'd rather not answer. Saluting, she forced herself to stand perfectly straight.
"I thought she might need hydration, ma'am. And that maybe she'd answer some questions that've been puzzling me."
There. That was surely a safe enough answer!

"You thought she might need hydration?"
Zircon's question seemed as innocent as the response, but she was drawing ever closer, circling around the lieutenant with purposeful, calculating steps. The girl had such a pretty salute to be a traitor, perhaps Zircon's judgement of her was wrong.
"And who authorized this form of interrogation?" Zircon lifted her lantern to get a better look of the lieutenant's face, searching her eyes for fear. Captain Astrophyllite had shown fear, after all, and she'd been guilty. "I had vested interest in keeping the Knight dehydrated, you've ruined a good eighteen hours of waiting for some puzzling questions."
She leaned in close, close enough to go for a starseed...or a neck. "So tell me, Lieutenant, what did you learn? Was it worth it?" She didn't raise her voice--in these dark halls, she didn't have to.

Backing up a step as the Captain moved in, Kadyrelite felt her mouth go dry. She hadn't thought that dehydration was being used as a method for gathering information. General Queen Apatite had wanted the captives kept alive for now and depriving them of water seemed sort of counter-intuitive to that.
"I... I apologize ma'am. I was sent out so many times to bring food or water to some of the others that I didn't think there'd be any harm in doing it off the clock, so to speak, ma'am."
And there it was, she'd been off the clock with no authorization, just a powerful curiosity and an opportunity to indulge it.
Perhaps another lieutenant would have tried to lie or at least hedge the truth a little. Kadyrelite, on the other hand, was entirely too honest and too impulsive to think of such things. So when the Captain with her dangerously soft voice questioned, Kadyrelite answered quickly and without thinking.
"I learned that purification hurts, Hvergelmir has seem it happen at least once and it needs a Prince, Princess or Royal Knight to facilitate. I can't say it was worth it though since I still don't understand why it's such a huge deal or why anyone would want to bother going through it."
For one moment, she wondered if she should share how she'd decided to scrap her theory of senshi evolving ovipositors once they went all glowy, but decided against it. This Captain didn't look like the type who appreciated alien life.

There were small tells to Zircon's disposition, for those who looked--a narrow twinge of her eyes, the slow lift of her shoulders, the curl of her fingers as her grip tightened against the lantern's handle. This lieutenant was no better than the captain, she was an interloper, a traitor for the simple sake of sating her curiosity. Still, she listened intently, to the girl's excuses and her little discoveries, and then all at once her expression went blank.
"I learned that purification hurts--"
Searing light, brightness in her bones, feeling her glamour slough away like curls of dead skin. Ringing in her ears so loud it drowned out twenty-six years. A scream without vocal cords.
Suddenly, Zircon's eyes snapped back into focus, and with clarity came a flush of white-hot anger. "Of course it hurts," the captain seethed, her voice just above a whisper, "They strip you of everything you are, everything that gives you power, in exchange for a piece of dirt out in space. They cut away entire pieces of your soul like it's gone to rot because they're afraid of what we are and they don't want us to exist."
Zircon made a grab for the girl's jacket, with the intent of tugging her down to eye level. "Are you afraid of what you are, lieutenant? Are you really going to sell yourself away like that?" The anger ebbed away as surely as it had been there, and Zircon straightened her posture, collecting her composure into one icy stare.
"Your name, Agent."Twilight Jaws Zircon doesn't have to grab Kady, it's entirely up to you. <3

Too intent on listening to the Captain's words to notice her seething voice, Kadyrelite's eyebrows nearly shot up into her hairline at this new information. This was certainly a far different take than what Hvergelmir had said. Though, the lieutenant supposed that it fit in with the whole 'it hurts to change one thing into another'.
"That's crazy," she muttered. "Why would anyone..."
She got no further as the Captain suddenly had a grip on her jacket and was tugging her down. Stumbling a little, Kadyrelite blinked and stood in an odd, half-kneeling position while the Captain glared into her eyes. Surprise and a touch of fearful anger flickered momentarily across her own face.
"Why would I be afraid of what I am? I'm not selling myself to anyone," she protested. "All I wanted was to understand the hows and whys!"
Tears began to form in her eyes, though she made no move to wipe them away. Surely this Captain didn't think that she was going to run off and let bits of her soul be eradicated? She might be crazy, but she wasn't crazy.
Flushing slightly, she couldn't help trying to defend herself again when asked for her name.
"I only wanted information and my name is Kadyrelite, ma'am." AMItotic It is completely okay! Poor tiny Zircon, though. XD

Obedience was step one, and it registered as dark satisfaction in the Captain's amber eyes. If they could obey, they could be taught, with a few...enthused lessons.
"It's all well and good to want to understand, Kadyrelite, but knowledge has a price, especially when you go about seeking it from the wrong sources," Zircon said dryly, slowly releasing her grip on the lieutenant's uniform. "You see, now you've gone and ruined my study on the Cosmos knight, which means now I can't be sure if you were just foolish or actively looking to sabotage our operations. And with my reports due in little over six hours time and no data, my superiors are going to want to know why I've come up empty-handed..." She allowed her voice to trail off, making a vague gesture down the corridor with her hand.
"You're going to need to tell me everything you did in there. Things will go more...kindly, if you do." Of course, Zircon had every intent of reporting the girl regardless, but if she could pull this off then she would at least have a bit of information to salvage.

Most studies didn't involve doing some of the things that Kadyrelite had seen evidence of on the knight's body, but she held her tongue. What did she know, after all? Instead, she straightened up gratefully and had the grace to look ashamed as the Captain released her grip.
"Oh. Yes. Of course," she murmured, eyes narrowing in thought. Hopefully the Captain wasn't expecting a blow by blow account since Kadyrelite wasn't sure her memory was that good.
"I took her water and asked if I could question her about purification because I was curious about the mechanics. She said yes if she was allowed to ask me questions too. I agreed, but admitted that I'm not that well informed."
Sensing that this might alarm her superior, Kadyrelite was quick to explain that one.
"She wanted to know what the date was, so I told her since it honestly didn't seem that important. She also asked how many of her friends we had and what was going to happen to them all. So I told her I didn't know names or exact numbers, but guessed four or five at least and well, that I didn't know what their ultimate fate was since that was up to the General Queen. She... the knight, I mean. She showed me her freaky magic tattoo and sort of explained it's meaning to me, said she didn't belong here and asked if I could get her an audience with the General Queen. Told her I was the low man on the totem pole and wouldn't even know how to find the General Queen much less make such a request."
Surely none of what she'd admitted was that bad. What she knew was so nebulous after all. But she'd only covered what the knight had asked about. It was time to admit to her own questions.
"I asked her if she'd ever seen a purification happen and she said once. She said Chaos was a kind of soul poison, which honestly, sounded super silly to me. She said it takes a Prince, Princess or umm... a Royal Knight to do the deed. And that it hurts to transform one thing into another. That's honestly all it was, Captain. I didn't even touch her other than to hold the water bottle for her and to poke a little at her tattoo."
So it wasn't the most concise of reports, but it was honest. It would have to do.

Words, words, most of them garbage, but a careful phrase here or there could be useful in her report. Zircon nodded along vaguely as she spoke, but her expression turned sour when the mention of purification came up.
"Chaos is the force that binds us to Metallia, gives us our power, makes us strong," Zircon corrected, pacing slowly around the lieutenant. She wondered, what words of wisdom would Schorl offer to this misguided officer? It was a thought worth saving for later, when she made her reports. "The White Moon would have us believe that the only way to gain power and agency is through some arbitrary system set forth by the universe, by some cosmic 'fate', and that the rest of us weren't worthy, were simply destined to be sheep in their power plays. Convenient, that their opponents cannot possibly earn agency under their system. But unlike them, we were chosen, not because of some legacy, but because we were worthy in the eyes of Metallia."
"The Cosmos Knight would have you believe that you are useless and unworthy," she sneered, crossing her arms. "And you offered her water."

Feeling it was safe enough, Kadyrelite offered a tiny shrug, neither arguing nor agreeing with the Captain's sneering. She might be an officer, albeit, a lowly one, but even so, she was pretty sure that any attempts at coercion on her part would have ended with a lot of throwing up and crying. Hardly intimidating.
"It was easier to hear her words once she'd had a bit of a drink, ma'am," she said softly. "And I felt sorry for her being on the wrong side. She doesn't look it, but she's a sneaky one under that gentleness. Or at least that was the impression I got when I left."
Not the impressions would help the Captain much if she needed hard information for her report, but still. As far as Kadyrelite was concerned, her brief encounter with Hvergelmir had left an impression that gentleness could be a very effective weapon.

Zircon's eyes narrowed at the blase manner in which Kadyrelite threw her shoulders--had she given any indication that this was a casual conversation they were having? That they were 'buddies'? It was the most minor of offenses, but Zircon took careful record of it, stored it away.
She made the mistake of recalling Hvergelmir's face as Kadyrelite spoke, her mussed hair and her wide, pleading eyes. The echoes of her voice wrenched at something deep in her chest, and Zircon's lips pursed, choking down whatever it was she felt. Kadyrelite, for all her errors, had to be right in this regards--Hvergelmir was crafty, a master of emotional manipulation and deception who was sent by the White Moon to lead her astray. Zircon had to be strong and steadfast like Schorl if she had any chance at resisting the siren call of the Cosmos.
"Pity rots the mind," Zircon mused to herself, her expression distant and bitter. With an adjust of the goggles on her head, she returned her gaze and her thoughts to the lieutenant, somehow managing to look down her nose at a girl who stood a good half a foot taller. "I think I've seen everything I need to see, unless you have any other comments, lieutenant."DaisyMilk oh my gosh I am so sorry for the delay ;; We can wrap on your post if you'd like?

Nervousness gripped her, making her stomach churn as she watched the Captain thinking. That bitter expression certainly didn't bode any good for someone. Whether it was herself or that Cosmos knight, Kadyrelite couldn't have said.
Just as she was beginning to wonder how much trouble fidgeting might get her into, the Captain spoke, giving Kadyrelite a look that made her feel about three inches tall. Saluting quickly, the lieutenant heaved a silent sigh of relief and managed to stammer an answer.
"N-no ma'am."
Unsure of whether she needed to bow or genuflect or what in this case, Kadyrelite settled for another salute before taking the dismissal gratefully. She bobbed an odd curtsy as she backed away, knowing that literally fleeing wouldn't reflect well. Still, once she was out of the Captain's sight, she didn't hesitate to turn and run as fast as she could.
