(this is a log of an rp done on aim; nilah and Qor in bold type and Irro and Ed in plain type)
Irrohna had finally made it to the city with the treasure and was delighted to discover how much water the city had. She was better able to appreciate its beauty when there was soothing relief so close by.
She chose a secluded spot to go for a dip not wanting to draw too much attention to her skin. She thought it was beautiful but explaining it to a crowd of gawkers might ruin her swim.
She settled her self down and took off the leather strips that were her shoes and anything that might catch awkwardly in the water, just as she dunked one hot foot into the cool water she realized there was already someone here. How had she not seen the clothes?
It was one of Qoraekai's first time out and away from the faction on his own in quite some time. They liked to keep an eye on him, which he supposed he could understand as he was supposed to fulfil some prophecy. But hey, he got what he wanted whenever he asked for it so it wasn't that bad, right?
He arrived at the little pool next to the temple shortly after leaving. And while he had left under the guise of praying to Ubeli, he really had a comforting swim on his mind. He had discarded his clothes, save some small clothes, next to one of the pillars of Ubeli's temple. He'd pray before he left and everything would be fine.
But his swim wouldn't go uninterrupted, at first it was just the slight noise of rustling clothes that could happen if a wind had picked up and moved his clothes. But as the sound was from the other direction, he swiveled his head, which was the only thing above water, to look at the source. It was a young woman, obviously not oban, though he had never met any of the Tendajians so he didn't know what she was, though her skin was fascinating. "Just thought I'd let you know this pool is occupied, though you're welcome to join me." He wasn't about to stop his swim for anyone else.
Irro froze the moment she realized that someone else was in the pool, which was about the time he had started talking. She slowly turned her head, he had a beautiful voice. "I'm sorry I didn't realize there was anyone here, I would leave you to your bath but I really really need this cool off. I'm knew to this much heat." And she was sorry, but she couldn't bring herself to step back out of water that felt so good. She was selfish and she knew it but the skin wants what the skin wants. And she sighed happily, wondering if this guy was a shifter with that light skin, but looking again she knew he wasn't. Very interesting...and handsome. The water did amazing things for her mood. This was the true gem of the desert, water. "Its so quiet back here, is it because of the temple so close?" she asked idly, half expecting him not to reply. Yet she had mostly met friendly people here, of which she was delighted.
If Qora was happy that the woman had chosen to stay, he didn't show it. He merely contented himself to float lazily around in the pool. Ah yes, if she wasn't from Oba he supposed the sun and heat would make her feel horrible. "You should travel at night, the creatures are more dangerous, but you'd be much more comfortable." He closed his eyes once more, at least until she started speaking again. "The temple being so close is one, and even though there are pools, no one really visits this far on the outskirts of Jatine." The crescents were another reason but Qora didn't add that. "I'm told Jatine is also a little quieter than some at night, I supose we just like our sleep." He eyed her and wondered where she had come from. "Travel far?"
You know it never occured to me to travel at night, I'm so new to travel its a bit shameful. Where I'm from we have sweeping grassland and clumps of trees, so there is usually shelter not to far away. I'm from Tale. Its just above Oba but it felt like further going through the desert." Everything even her trip seemed a little far away here as she lay on her back soaking her head. She was more prone to headache in the heat and the dual action of lowered body temperature and coolness on her skin almost made her eyes cross with pleasure. "I wish I had a pool in my room but itβs too cramped." she giggled a bit.
The girl's admittance made him sit up and look at her. So she said she was from Tale, his teachers had only taught him a little about that, as they really only knew little right now. Were all their skin like that? Surely not or Oba would have more slaves that looked like her. "Is your skin normal for people where you live? It would seem odd to me that it wouldn't occur to you to travel at night. If I'm correct, which I normally am, then the sun probably causes you quite a bit of discomfort in the places where the tone is different?" he said it in a matter of fact tone complete with eyebrow raising. He knew, because it bothered him as well. "If its too cramped, why don't you just ask for a bigger room?" It didn't occur to him that not everyone got what they wanted when they wanted it.
No my skin is very rare, although my father had a patch on his stomach, so thats where i think i got it from. Its not a disease or anything just an oddity, I get many questions and looks and sometimes not the nicest welcome." She tilted her head to look at him and sucked in a breath quietly, he was beautiful like silver. "The desert sun burns both types of my skin just coming out of winter it was miserable until a kind woman gave me a cream in your northern city. I think it saved me from flaking away." She held up a scarlet arm. "Eventually I covered up properly but by then I already looked like a lobster." She swallowed. "Is your skin type common here? I haven't seen it." "I er could get a bigger room but I would have to barter more of my collection away and I want to stay here longer, so I economise. Its not the space that is so bad, its just me after all. I just want to never leave the water." She grinned sideways at him. In a good humor despite the questions, she was sure he got enough of them too.
Qora smirked. So he was correct and it wasn't normal, and he was correct that the sun hurt her, immensely it seemed. But, seeing as how the lighter patches were bleached like his whole body was, it wasn't a surprise to him. He let out a chuckle at her question as it almost mirrored his own and he decided to mirror her answer. "No, my skin is very rare. Though, my father doesn't have a bit of it." He shrugged. Kai knew the pain of having his skin burned and knew that the different salves and creams healers made had saved him lots of pain in the past. "This cream you say they gave you, did they instruct you to put it on before you go out in the sun, or after?" There was a difference, one would help keep skin from burning, while the other would help the pain from the burn. If she had gotten one and not known it's propper use it could prove disasterous. "The water is nice though. Its the reason we're in Jatine, it soothes my skin quite often as well." He wondered if his questions irritated her, as he had gotten used to most of them. There were normally other faction members who came weekly to see him, for what reason he wasn't sure. "Why come to Oba?"
"After, when I got the cream I was already blistered. The burns did not help my temper one little bit, but a simple act of kindness was such a gift. I am very grateful, after that I covered up and covered myself in that cream it made my clothes stick but it was very cooling." She smiled at his twist on her answer. "Did your mother at all?" It might be silly to ask but still, she was curious. Did he have an extreme version of her skin type? Now she knew what others felt like when they asked her but she was less paranoid. He was a man, not a scary monster. "Hmm, you might find this silly, I came out here because I heard this story about a pact between a sea prince and an Oban who traded his daughter for all the gold in the sea. Only one ship made it back, and it was supposed to never have left the Oban castle, but more information led me to Jatine. It is here that is supposed to have the treasure. I wish to be a Treasure Hunter you see, of couse someone owns the treasure as it is now, so I just get to look ." "I was finally old enough to leave on an adventure and the tale happened to come up in the market so I picked Oba. In hindsight I wasn't prepared. But I am happy I made it, Jatine is a beautiful city." "We had a long winter full of snow and I think I went a little bit stir crazy."
He actually laughed at her question about his mother. "No, actually neither one of my parents have any skin conditions. But, the next time you see a healer, ask about a salve that you put on that will protect your skin from most sun for a period of time. Its better than getting burned first." If she shared in his problems with the sun, there wasn't anything wrong with offering a bit of advice. "So you traveled all this way, through the desert which you weren't suited for, on the bit of some story?" Qora shook his head and ran his hand through his hair, back and away from his face. "Seems a little far fetched but I suppose when you have a feeling you have a feeling." He often had "feelings" that led him different ways. "Well, hows your first adventure going --? Oh I'm sorry, I never got your name."
"That cream sounds magical." Of course she wasn't sure she wasn't going to become nocturnal anyway, nighttime was nice. "I'll make sure to ask for it. Thank you." It was very kind of him to mention that, it would be a great help for when she went back. "I got a bit over excited I admit, but aside from the sun and heat it has been wonderful, the markets you have here, so many new things to see, I love it." "Oh oh, Im so sorry, my name is Irrohnaghal. Usually it gets shortened to Irro, Irrohna or just Rohna, your welcome to whichever you chose, and your name?" She was doubly glad she had come to this pool in particular now, she hadn't realized how lonely she had been until she had a nice long conversation that wasn't with her log book. "I wrote down my journey from Tale, if you.. if you would like to read it sometime I would be happy to oblige."
"Mhmm." Was all he said in reply to the advice. Qora resumed his floating while listening to her continue on. While he thought about not giving his name at all, he thought that would be pretty rude of her, and, since there was nobody heere to tell him no..."Qoraekai. Most call me Qora, Rae, or Kai. Simple." So she was a journalist as well as a treasure hunter huh? That was interested. Perhaps he should read it, maybe it would give him insight as to what his neighboring people were like, not that he'd get to meet many. "Sure, it'd be nice to read about someone's journeys. So, Roh, where do you think the treasure is?" He was curious, a good problem to solve, if it was real of course.
"Hmm Kai, I like it, its very different." She finally sat up in the water, showing more skin now. "If I were to guess I would say somewhere in the middle of the city. Cities are most fortified from the inside so that would be where treasure would be safest from outsiders looking to steal it. So that is where I will look first. Even if I don't get to see it, I at least got an adventure, and far away from Yera." She went over to her clothes and pulled out her journal. She waded over and offered it to him. "It doesnt have a lot yet, but I started the first night I left my parents in Tale. So it covers all the ground up until here." There were a few interesting things in there, she had found janarin tracks through her camp one night, then there was the two Obans heading north, they had given her water, the lady with the cream and the desciprion of Kalv's market.
Qora cocked his head to the side as she explained her reasoning. "Logical thinking at least. Assuming that it's in Jatine and assuming that it isn't just some legend." Obans were proud of their stories. When she got out of the pool and walked over to where she had deposited her clothing to pick up her journal, Qora noticed she was very pretty, and had a nice build, no doubt catching many eyes where she was from, not that her skin condition didn't do that for her already. When the journal was offered to him, he took it and waded over to the edge after "appreciating" her body, er basically giving her the once over, before drying off his hands on his cape so that he wouldn't get the pages wet. He leaned against the edge so that he could peer over the top of the journal to keep an eye on her. Hmm, janarin tracks through camp weren't too uncommon. Obans giving her water, presumably because she hadn't packed enough, and then the lady with the cream. Pretty uneventful stuff so far. He nodded her approval at her writing at least, it was legible and understandable. "You enjoyed the market I take it? Are Oban markets much different from the ones where you're from? And is it so bad there that you ahve to follow a whim just to get away?" She was interesting to him, she was something new, and he wanted to find otu everything he could. He waded back over to her to hand her the journal again, lingering probably longer than was appropriate.
I enjoy markets very much, they are actually one of my favorite things to do." She smiled. " Oban markets are not so different but the items are, with trade just opening up, there isnt too much crossover yet, its very exciting to see the new things for me." Tale isn't bad per say but I grew up there, and it didn't feel novel enough to travel to anywhere that I already knew so much about, Oba is an entire new culture and I find that fascinating too." She noticed he lingered a bit and her mind wondered if he was thinking the same as her. She liked his company well enough and she had never found a male companion at home. Not that she didn't want one. But they had never worked out, never gotten close enough, her two best friends were girls.
"Hmm." Qora said once more as he let the silence linger between them. He wasn't always prone to these quiet spells, but it seemed with her he would be more the mysterious types. "I suppose that makes sense, for you to want to travel to somewhere new...somewhere...exotic?" He contemplated for a little bit longer. "I've heard the markets in Sulburi are quite interesting. Of course, it's where the King's Palace is and where the nobility reside so I"m sure you could find plenty of Oban things there for you to take back home. And surely that's what you intend to do, right? Assuming you don't find this treasure, the smartest thing to do would be to find the most exotic looking Oban things and take them home to sell at a tremendous upscale. At least. Thats what many of our merchants are doing." He flashed her a smile then, he was pretty well versed in things that were happening in Oba, surprisingly, as he'd never left Jatine. Not that he hadn't wanted to of course. But there was a question that was lingering in the back of his mind, and it may sound creeperish, yes, but he had to ask. "So are you traveling alone, Roh?"
"Yes that would be my plan if I fail to see the other treasure, not all treasure glitters gold. I'm rather fond of furs sadly unless its winter tale is not the smartest place to be wearing a fur mantle. It gets hot there just not this intensely hot for this long. Sulburi huh? I'll have to remember that, I don't plan on leaving Jatine too soon. I like the water too much here and should give my quest more then a passing try." "Some of the things I find I may keep as a memento along with my diary." Hmm he had a lovely smile. His words sent off little alarm bells in her head, but if he had wanted to overpower her he could have done so already. She almost snickered at the thought of him chasing her into the sun if she chose to run where they would both fry. She tilted her chin up, "Yes I am traveling alone." The nice thing about Oba was that there were so many people a good squawk woould have them come running..assuming she wanted to squawk that was. He was exciting to be around, the mystery, the class, the unknown, and the feeling she was talking to a real man who saw more then just her patchyness. Maybe she had been in the sun too long but there was a draw there. She smirked a bit then, waggling her brows at him, "And are you alone?"
It somewhat surprised him to hear that she was pretty dead set on finding this treasure. At least she had determination, that was something to be admired, right? But furs? Really? No one had much use for them in Oba, it was too hot. The nobles may use them in their houses since they have servants to shake out the dust for them but the only ones who really trafficked in furs were merchants, and even that tended to be a smaller market. Ah, but he hadn't know it had been a diary, or perhaps she had a journal and a diary? It would be interesting if she had two separate ones, a diary would be more interesting in seeing what the girl was made of. Once again, he propped himself up, his elbows resting on the ground pulled him out of the water a little bit even though the hot Oban air made him feel sweaty. It was interesting that she was traveling alone, it made her wonder if she was brave or just stupid. "I'm alone, for now. Though I tend not to be." Let her think of that how she will, Qora knew it could ahve mutliple meanings.
Deciding her brain had cooked all good thought out of her head, Irro asked him while moving a tad closer. "And this company you keep, might it be feminine in nature?" She was nuts for asking it, and had been somewhat second guessing herself the whole time, but she wouldn't have come to Oba at all if she didn't want to take risks. And this risk was lovely and well muscled. She stood a foot away and didn't move.

Qora couldn't help but smirk and chuckle a little bit. This one was feisty and he liked it. She had spirit to her, perhaps it was what all Tendajians were like. And if they were all as beautiful as she was, even without her skin, it was a wonder that Obans were attacking them. Most couldn't stand having someone better than they were. "Not always, but when I do. None of them are as exquisite as you are." He said smoothly as he touched the oblong crystals on her chin with his thumb. Qora was laying it on thick for sure, but chances were he'd never see this girl again so might as well be as flirtatious as he wanted to be!

Irro blushed. Wow, he was amazing. She had never met anyone with such a smooth tongue and sharp wit. It was a most intriguing combination. Her skin felt electrified where he touched her crystals. She reached out her hand to frame his face. "And I have never seen someone as smooth, and handsome as you in all my travels." It was terribly shallow she knew that but well, he was gorgeous and she didn't get to flirt often and this was so exciting she was going to enjoy it darn it. Irro leaned in closer, tempting fate. Would he kiss her wouldn't he? What a lovely conundrum. It would be a good memory, lovely pool, cute guy, secret kiss, the perfect fairy tale.

Qoraekai couldn't help the cocky smile that appeared when he saw her blush. So likely no one had ever told her that her skin condition was beautiful. Or they had but hadn't really been sincere about it which was a shame. What was more of a shame was that he was likely never going to see her again. She wasn't from this land, and he hardly got out. Such as it was, he was going to make the most of it. He smiled once more before leaning in and then hesitating for a moment. The kiss was soft and unassuming and surprisingly not demanding or hurried. Qora leaned back after the tender moment, the cocky smile found its way back, though it didn't have quite the attitude and confidence it had before. "Now you're not going to get killed when you go back to your people for kissing an Oban are you?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

Really questions at a time like this with her almost overbalanced in offer. Of course now that she thought of what she thought he knew about herself and her homeland. "No," she said pulling back, "they would not. Not even if I told them of our little tryst here. They respect my family and though they do not entirely trust me not to be somewhat..unstable my family have at least convinced my village that I am not contagious." Of course, with the war being so near, maybe they wouldn't understand. "Then again, with the treaty so newly signed.... but alas this is not their choice." Her brows furrowed. Perhaps she shouldn't do this, act like this, she had wanted to, but his words were very logical. She sighed and turned, so much for instant romance, perhaps this was why others took so long to court, or whatever it was they were doing here; stealing kisses..or rather thinking about it.

Hmmm, so perhaps they weren't as bad as his teachers had tried to tell him they were. "So your people thought you were contagious, huh? My parents thought I was sick for the longest time, but when I started growing up and was healthy, we found out it was only my skin that was...affected." Qora watched her out of the corner of his eye. He knew he had killed whatever they had by his questions whenever she turned away. Well, so be it, he thought. He lifted himself slowly out of the water, his muscles surprisingly defined in the moonlight. He left his clothes where they were laying and let the cool night air dry him, even though it made his skin bump like gooseflesh. He knelt down in front of Ubeli's alter and bowed, he kept his prayers silent, however, he doubted Irro would want to hear it anyway.

"Yes they thought so, until Father showed them the patch he has on his stomach, and they had been around him for years, then they smartened up somewhat. It seems peoples like ours are a bit narrow minded when it comes to the different and unknown. At least my parents didn't care they loved me. That and I've seen mom tickle Dad's belly, disturbing but alas... parents." As she looked over what she had said she realized she might have just babbled a bit. Ick. She watched him curiously as he went over to pray to the statue of their water god, quite frankly she would be sending up her own prayer to the goddess when she got home, her god or not she was grateful for the water. She tippy toed out and winced as she put her outer clothes back on. Should she dunk them too, or keep them dry? Eh, she shook her head, poked her head around until the fire boy could see her and waved cheerfully before vanishing home. She didn't know the protocol so she wouldnt follow it.

It didn't take him long to get through his prayers. They were always relatively short. Some would say that makes him seem ungrateful but really, Qoraekai felt that if Ubeli was truly a god then they would already know his thoughts and fears so there was no point in really praying that kind of stuff. He would just give his thanks and pray for the well being of others. He was done quickly and had surprisingly been distracted enough to not notice the footsteps. When he turned back, the mysterious Tendajian beauty was gone. Qora smile wistfully and got dressed himself. It was nice while it lasted, he thought.
