Deep within the Tulgey woods, little to no sunlight penetrates the thick roof of branches that stretches overhead. The ground is soft, layered with a thick mat of dead leaves and moss broken only by the twisting nonsensical paths that meandered hither and thither between the thick trunks and large roots that erupted from the ground like grasping fingers. Despite the lack of sunlight, the shadow land has a murky blue-green glow that emanates from the eerie mushrooms and various other odd flora that flourish here in the unrelenting darkness. Arrows pointing in various odd directions (including up and down, diagonally) are crudely affixed to the tree trunks, seemingly serving no purpose other than to confuse and frustrate visitors.

Many odd creatures inhabited these parts, one of them was slinking through the shadows, snapping his rather large jagged teeth together in an off rhythm with his muted hoofbeats. Vorpal stretched his leathery wings, swaying his tail from side to side as he pranced through the forest, he was feeling a little stiff, having drifted off cradled in the roots of one of the twisty trees after overindulging in some of the mushrooms, one of his favorite snacks. His mouth felt a little fuzzy, so did his head, he would find some water for a drink and to snap up a fish or two before deciding how to spend the rest of his day. He was rather bored, it had been far too long since he had enjoyed a visitor, word seemed to have spread about the dangers of wandering too far into this section of the forest, and as he hadn't had much of a reason to leave it, he was left alone and lonely. Vorpal heaved a sigh, allowing himself a moment of self pity before he lost track of what he was so upset about and began humming and tap dancing down one of the twisty paths. He smelled water, his whirring violet eyes seemed to spin faster as he arrived at the edge of the small pond. No where for fishies to hide he thought with a malevolent grin, his ears laid back and his tail swishing from side to side as his eyes followed their fluid paths beneath the murky surface. In a blink, with a snap of his heavy jaws, Vorpal had caught himself one of the silvery slippery little creatures and had dragged it a few feet away. Settling down, he held it between his two front hooves and neatly bit it in half, chewing noisily as he idly surveyed the surrounding foliage. He had met a fair share of the strange and often dangerous beings that called the tum tum tree forest home and he didn't want to unintentionally become a snack by being too focused on consuming his own.

User Image"Time for tea already? And here I am without my fine china." A tenor voice rang from the Forest behind Vorpal, and a rather bedraggled Stallion, murmuring 'pardon me, ma'am' and 'if I could just get through here, please' to the trees, stumbled out into the open.

"Would you believe not a one would make room for me?" Brillig confided with his fish-eating friend, his face the very picture of Offended Dignity. "Traveling would be much more pleasant if that rabble would learn some manners. Oh! Speaking of which. Are you the helpful soul who so kindly put up those signs? A pleasure to meet you, I am Brillig. Would you care to introduce me to your friend?"

He looked at the half-fish meaningfully, but continued talking. "Though please make it snappy, we musn't be late for the parade, you know."

He paused.

"You do know, right?"

Vorpal paused mid bite, his eyes widening in surprise, shifting, he glanced over his shoulder towards the voice. The stallion quickly trotted into view however, chatting amiably. Vorpal relaxed once he realized something wasn't about to try to eat him and slowly found himself entranced by the stallion's quirky conversation. His tail twitched, already an unnaturally wide smile was playing across his jagged mouth as his wedgelike head nodded in time with the stranger's words. His eyes sparkled and although his teeth were bloodied from his meal, Vorpal's expression was open, friendly, as though he were speaking with a close friend rather than a complete stranger. He bobbed his head pleasantly in greeting, "Just terrible," he agreed, "No manners these days," his grin twitching wider, "Visitors seem to find the paths confusing, I thought the signs might help. Its treacherous in these parts after all, so very, very perilous... " He trailed off with a mock sigh.

His glowing eyes remained affixed to Brillig as he stood, picking the half eaten fish up by the tail as he went. When he reached his full height he tossed the little morsel in a little flip and caught it in his open mouth, his jaws indeed snapping closed audibly. He chewed slowly, fish bones snapping unpleasantly for a few long silent moments before swallowing. "I'm afraid I didn't think to ask its name..." Vorpal responded sorrowfully, his forehead creased with genuine concern as he considered the implications, "That was really rather rude of me, true, I had just woken up but still, tactless." He shook his head a little.

"Brillig, you say?" His voice was heavy with curiosity, there was a hungry gleam in his eye, but strangely enough, he had no real urge to strike fear into this stallion's heart, at least not yet. It had been far too long since he had had visitors, his shadow puppets were entertaining, but they couldn't talk after all, and the forest residents had grown rather dull in this section of the forest. "To myself, I am simply the Frumious snapper," he stated confidently, "For when alone, I simply am, and have no need to call myself." He chuckled, "But for conversing with others, 'Vorpal' was given to me for simplicity's sake."

His eyes glittered queerly,
"I do now, by all means let us move swiftly."
