User Image It was a crisp late winter day, the sky above was cloudless and the most glorious pure of blue. Yet the stallion that wondered alone across the plains didn't seem to notice. He was drifting slowly towards a small stream half a mile or so away. In no particular rush Dominick constantly stopped to nibble a few mouthfuls of dry grass or occasionally the faintest patch of clovers that fought for life through the winters cold. Even in the height of winter the world around him was alive, winter birds that had come down form the mountains to enjoy the mild plains winter whirled or nestled in within the higher grasses, occasionally a rabbit would dart past him, kicking up clouds of dust; but the stallion hardly seemed to see any of it.

After what seemed to be an eternity he reached the banks and stared down into the crisp clear water. He noted that the levels were slightly down, no surprise the snow had not yet melted to swell the banks. "Aye ... the heat can't come soon enough .." his thick Scottish accent was an oddity in the Kawani lands, With a shrug he lowered his muzzle into the water, his lips stung for a moment especially his bright piercing and the icy liquid hit his stomach like a swift kick.

With a grunt, and a full belly he drifted away downstream.

He wondered barely a few feet before he stopped again and survived the area. "Good as I'll get ..." with a heavy groan he lowered himself to the ground.

Slipping a large golden bangle off his ankle and tucking it into a tuft of tall grass to hide it, the stallion practically curled up and rested his muzzle against the ground slipping into a peaceful nap in the sun.

Ghost had been following the big stallion since he'd seen that lovely shiny bracelet he wore. Telling Blight he would be right back he jumped from her back and went snaking through the tall grass after his quarry. That bracelet would be his if he had to fight for it... The small white ferret couldn't help but scoff at himself. He never fought for his prizes, he just ran away. Most couldn't catch him because he was so small.
He grinned an evil feral smile as he reached the big sleeping beast. Spirits was he big... Carefully he snuffed around searching for the bracelet, hoping the big stupid oaf wouldn't wake up and catch him.
Success! Pushing aside a tuft of grass he found it. The gleaming ring fairly glowing in the cold light of the sun. Now, how to get it out of here. It was almost bigger than he was. 'Hmmm...' He thought. A wicked gleam lit his eyes up. He walked towards it and slipped his trim body through it. When the ring was firmly around his belly he took off running. Not caring if he woke the fool who he just stole from, too confident he could out run him.

A cool breeze whispered past him, tickling his face and neck with his long mane, for a brief time he had a peaceful sleep in the cold winter sun.

Something started to change though well before he was aware of it, a buzzing started at the back of his mind and quickly grew in intensity rousing him from his slumber slowly. Something didn't feel right. Slowly blinking pale blue eyes began to open, then closed tightly against the bright sunlight. He shook his head with a grunt "aw 'at hurts!"

As he opened his eyes he didn't see anything odd .. then suddenly a glimmer. As he followed it he spied the small fuzzy thing running as fast as it's short legs could take it "wonder whit got inta him." Blink, wait .. what .. he looked closer, was that ... NO!

Dominick launched to his feet pushing the grass away with a hoof, it was! That thing had taken his bracelet.

The stallion trumpeted his rage, and seeing red he dove after Ghost. "Gie back haur ye fuzzae theif!"

For one so large, Dom was surprisingly fast, but not quiet fast enough to run the varmint down, but he wouldn't let Ghost out of his sight, going as far as running right through thorny bushes he thundered after the ferret like a tank chewing up the land.

"Ah hell..." He swore when he heard the stallion sound his rage at being stolen from. Mentally slapping himself he thought, 'Quieter next time!!' The heavy bracelet was slowing him down but damn if he was going to give it up. He ran, and ran the weighted gold slamming against his knees each time his back arched to take another leaping step. At times he wished he was much bigger, then this heist would have gone better.
Finally he reached the clearing where Blight was at. Immediately stopping he looked, saw her and bolted for her snow white form. He ran up her leg and seated himself on her back, his breath hitched and heaving but he had the bracelet.

Blight couldn't say for sure what happened but suddenly her little brother was scampering up her leg with a gold bracelet wrapped around his waist and barely able to catch his breath. She turned to him and said, "Ghost..? What's going on?" Sadly the poor out of breath ferret couldn't answer through his gasping. She frowned and eyed the golden bracelet wondering where he got that.

Dominick hadn't been paying much attention as he plowed into the clearing .. well not into brilliant white clouded through the red. His head shot up and his rump went back as he skidded to a halt not far from the smaller form. As his haze, cleared he realized he was standing in front of a small mare with a coat of brilliant white contrasted by a mane and markings of black.

With sides heaving, nostrils red and flaring, the stallion stood catching his breath. "Excuse mah miss but, Ah believe yer ..friend.. there has taken somethin' important ay mine." He eyed the ferret wearing his golden bracelet angrily for a moment, icy eyes hard and cold.

He flipped his eyes back to the mare and they soften a bit, at the very least he wouldn't turn any anger towards her, unless she showed to be in league and had sent the little thing after his priceless heirloom. As he stood there, breathing deep his sides slowly returned to a normal movement and the panting eased.

Surprise was the first thing she felt when the stallion broke from the tall grass and crested the rise to skid to a stop in front of her. Fear at his size was the next emotion she felt, but when he spoke, the gentle tone to his voice shooed the fear away and replaced it with curiosity. His voice was fascinating. The accent he bore was interesting.
She almost missed his words. "Oh! Is this yours? I was wondering where he got it." Always cheerful and blatantly oblivious to Ghost's thieving ways, that was Blight to a tee. She reached over and grabbed the bracelet with her mouth gently pulling it off of Ghost.
The little ferret didn't even protest. Just glared at the stallion in front of him.

Finally having caught his breath Ghost listened as Blight spoke of how she was curious of the bracelets origins. When she took it he spared a glare for the stallion then adopted a pleasing voice and said, "I'm very sorry for taking it. I swear I didn't know it was yours." He smiled sweetly, "I'm very glad to know it's back where it belongs!" In his mind the ferret was throwing curse after curse at the stallion. The evil look behind the sweet eyes said as much.

She carefully laid the bracelet on the ground before the rather large stallion and said, "I'm very glad that was resolved, my apologies for what happened." She watched him for a moment, fragile wings fluttering in the breeze, "My name is Blight, and this is my little brother Ghost. It's a pleasure to meet you sir...?" Her words trailed off as she waited for him to give his name.

Dominick flicked his tail slowly, he wasn't exactly sure if the mare truly didn't know or if she'd sent the little fur-ball but he wasn't much for caring or holding it to them at least it was being returned. "Well, wasnae much harm dain lass, ye made sure it was returned." with the ease of a life of practice he unclasped the bracelet from the inside, allowing it to open up before he shifted it onto his hock and locked the bracelet once more.

When the 'brother' .. spoke his soft blue eyes went icey but only for a moment before a mask of sincerity slid over his face, lip quirking into a slight smile. "Ah, thenk ye fur takin care of it, till I found ye." He smiled gracefully, and turned most of his attention back to the small mare. He tried his best not to appear like he was lookin down on her, she was very small of stature to be sure.

"It's quite alrecht, nae need fur apologies miss. It's a pleasure, ta meet ye and your brother." He nodded his head, a slight bowing movement "Ah am Dominick."

Blight watched the large stallion clasp the bracelet around his leg with a very practiced ease. She wondered how often he took it off and how long it took him to learn to put it back on so easily. She couldn't help but let her eyes linger on him, well what she could see, considering his size!
With a quick mental slap she scolded herself fiercely, 'This is how you got into trouble with HIM!' She almost shivered at the thought of her previous lover, but managed to contain it.
An innocent smile on her face she watched the exchange between Ghost and the stallion until he introduced himself. Dominick... She rolled the name around on her tongue and got used to before saying, "Its very nice to meet you! I was vaguely wondering if there was anyone else in these parts." She smiled sweetly, "You are admittedly the first I have seen in weeks!" She shared with him the incredulity of it. For even as big as the land was, to not come across someone in weeks should be considered a record. In a way though she often avoided others. Since the big scare she received when a purewalker had attacked her and her adopted child Siana and she'd lost her daughter to a swift moving river, she'd been avoiding most others. Once Siana had been found and had grown to the point of being on her own Blight had left her with her old herd and asked that they care for her and then she went off on her own again. Well as alone as she could be with Ghost always in attendance. She watched the ferret with a loving look. Her brother could do no wrong in her eyes.
If she was honest with herself, she was afraid. So many strangers had done her harm. Used her and cast her aside. Stolen her child. Attacked her for no reason but madness.
Shaking away the memories she said, "So... Other than your lost bracelet what brings you to this area Dominick?"

Ghost was very uninterested in the big oaf of a stallion after he'd been forced to give the bracelet back so he preceded to curl up on Blight's back, between her wings, and fall asleep. Though not before sparing one last withering, anger filled look at the stallion for taking back his bounty.

He shook his hoof a moment, testing the heavy golden bracelet to make sure it would remain clasped and had not been broken.

At her words he looked up, not seen others in weeks? Well it would seem he'd picked a fine local in which to rest then. "Ah really have nae reason..." he shrugged his shoulders, cocking his large head to the side "Ah wonder alone mostly, an' search fur mah sister." He paused for a long moment, eyes taking on a far away look. The mare danced through his mind, wherever she was Dominick only prayed to the Gods she was safe and happy.

He came out of the revere with a snort and grunt. "An' whit brings ye here lass? It is a lonely place."

Dominick flicked his tail and shifted his weight looking down at the tiny mare. He was almost afraid to move, afraid he would hurt the poor flutter mare by accident and he was tired, he tried to hide the tremble in his knees but it was only getting worse as time passed.

Finally with a sigh the large stallion rocked back on his hocks then carefully without coming to close to tiny Blight folded his legs up and sunk down to the ground. "Ah am sorry miss, Ah must rest a wee moment"

At least this way he was a little closer to eye level with her too.

She watched him lay down while contemplating her answer. It wasn't good to divulge all to strangers. She'd learned that lesson the hard way.
Hesitance clear in her voice she said, "I am just traveling for a time, trying to get a clear sense of my life... If you know what I mean." Her pelt itched with the slight dishonesty in her words.
Watching him she noticed how tired he was. "If you feel the need please rest yourself. I won't be moving on for a while yet and we can talk when you awaken." She smiled brightly.
