Kayla Lee had heard news of strange goings-on at a fancy hotel where a fancy party had taken place a few days ago. Supposedly, there was a terrorist attack on the hotel or something, and at least one person had died? It was all rumors and whispers to her, and even if it was the talk of the town, she didn't see what it had to do with her. The Lee family was not especially rich, especially not after the holidays, so she didn't have money to spare for a nice dress. Admission was cheap enough, sure, but she didn't feel she had anything to wear. Regardless of all that, it was a good thing she hadn't gone, since there had been an attack and all. One less thing to worry about. Today she had gone out for a quick grocery shop to put some food in the house after her family's traditional New Year's mini-feast. It was a nice little thing they did, making delicious food for the holidays, and she looked forward to it every year. Carrying four grocery bags (two in each hand), she walked down the sidewalk towards the middling-but-somewhat-poor part of town she lived in. As she passed by a certain alleyway, she thought she saw something move out of the corner of her eye, and she stopped walking. It was probably just a stray animal or something, but it still made her feel a little suspicious.

Winter was a horrible time. It was cold and wet and gross outside, and not only did that make her uncomfortable, it apparently also made all the people uncomfortable. No people meant no people with food, and no people with food meant no food to be shared with her. That made winter a rather lean time, but a girl did what she had to do.
Shuffling through the torn open garbage bag, Ash winced and placed her paws delicately. She pushed aside the things that held no interest, searching instead for the one enticing smell that had drawn her to this bag in particular. Her delicate pink nose picked it up... she knew it was in there, but... there was too much in the way! At this rate, she was going to get dirty and Ash loathed being dirty.
A low sound of annoyance escaped her as she flicked her tail back and forth. Pushing aside an empty tissue box, the guardian finally spied her prize... the crumpled box from McDonald's that called to her nose like a siren.
"Aha! There you are, my delicious morsel..." She chortled as she pounced on it, ripping the box open to bury her face in the half-eaten Big Mac inside.

Adding to the oddness of the situation, Kayla thought she heard a voice coming out of the alleyway, and a female voice at that. Something about more....? Morsels? Although every signal in her mind told her to just walk on by, she stayed where she was. At first she thought the voice might have just been a homeless woman who might try to take her groceries, but when she peered into the alleyway, there were no people to be found. So where could the voice have come from? "Hello?" she called into the alleyway, hoping the source of the voice would reply. If not, she would be convinced she was hearing things.

The silver cat perked up as she heard someone calling out and she lifted her head, her cheeks full of burger and crumbs on her chin. Chewing quickly, Ash spun to trot towards the mouth of the alley, a new bounce in her step.
That voice belonged to a person, and people meant good things! If she was lucky, it was someone who'd take pity on a poor, hungry, damp cat... who was incredibly cute none-the-less and only wanted attention. Putting on her best face, Ash chirped as she emerged, her tail held high behind her. The tip twitched back and forth as she paused, looking over the stranger with wide eyes behind her visor.
Taking a chance, Ash padded forward with her head high and ears forward, putting on the most friendly face she could manage.

A cat? That would explain what Kayla saw. "Hey there," she said gently, putting her grocery bags down for a moment and stooping down to the cat's level. This was a strange cat for certain. Where did it get that visor from? It looked too fancy for a purely stray cat, and to put such a sci-fi-looking visor on a cat, the supposed owner must have been a bit odd at the very least. Ah, but the owner might explain the woman's voice coming from the alley. Maybe it was an eccentric homeless person with a cat? Kayla had no cash to spare, sadly, so any encounter would be awkward at best. Nonetheless, she reached forward to touch the visor and maybe take it off and check it for any identifying marks. "Who gave you this? Is your owner around?" The cat couldn't respond, of course, but sometimes animals were good at leading people to their owners.

Ash chirped as the girl bend down, immediately going to rub herself against her knees and thighs. She felt wonderful against her senses and it perked the cat's ears, a familiarity in the feeling she had come to associate with certain people of potential.
The thought was derailed, however, when the girl took her visor, chagrin replacing the friendly attention. Of course that was the first thing she went for... what was it with humans and her visor? It was always the first thing they wanted to touch and ninety percent of the time, take off of her.
Rearing up, Ash braced a paw against the girl's knee and reached for her visor with the other, batting about for it.
"No, no, give that back, Darling! That's mine!" She caroled as she stretched for it. "You can pet me if you like, but I would like that back, please."

"Wh-huh?" There was the woman's voice again, but it seemed to be coming from... the cat? Either the owner was very good at throwing their voice, there was a recording being played somewhere, or there was a bona-fide talking cat in front of Kayla. Cautiously, she placed the visor back on the cat and looked around again. "Hello?" It was partly directed at whoever was speaking in the distance and partly at the cat. There was some weird business going on, to be sure.

With a soft harumph, Ash shoved her visor back into place and sat back off the girl's knees, her face scrunched up a moment before it relaxed and she was serene again, gently smiling even.
"Yes, Darling, you ears are not deceiving you. I am indeed a cat, of a special sort, and I am indeed talking. Please don't be afraid, I promise I won't do anything to hurt you. I... have something for you, actually." The silver guardian stared up with bright eyes as she padded close, rubbing her sides against her knees and legs.
"You're a very special girl, I could sense it when I got close. You have a special fate waiting for you to claim it, and I'm here to help that happen! You just have to be willing to trust me a little, and listen to what I have to tell you."

"Um." The cat was talking, the cat had confirmed that her voice was indeed coming from her, and now was talking about Kayla being "special." At this point, Kayla figured she had no choice but to hear the cat out. "Okay... I mean, you're a talking cat. How could this get any weirder?" Of course, she had no idea that it had the potential to get quite a bit weirder.

The silver cat beamed happily as she stepped back and spun, a neat little dance in place as something bright and shiny fell out of thin air. It clattered to the ground and Ash swooped to pick it up, trotting back to offer what looked like a fancy pen to the young woman.
"Take this..." She said around the plastic in her mouth. "Hold this up, and say 'Sadachbia Power, Make-up'!"
The cat's tail flicked back and forth excitedly, eager to see what sort of powers she was going to awaken in this girl. What would her sphere be? Her magic? It was so exciting!

"Sada-what?" Kayla caught what the cat had said, but the name certainly was a mouthful. "Um... okay. Here goes nothing." She gripped the pen tightly, then repeated the words: "Sadachbia Power, Make-Up!" A brilliant glow encompassed her, followed by flashes of gold and blue and ribbon-like bandages. When the light dispersed, a newly-awakened senshi was standing there, holding her henshin pen. "Uh." The new senshi pulled on her skirt with one hand and nudged her chest bow with the other. "I... have a costume now? Where did my clothes go?" Her outward reaction may have been mellow, but she was plenty befuddled on the inside. Magic pens that created costumes? How did that work?

The glow and flash was exciting, a sign that Ash had indeed done her job properly. The cat's eyes grew wide as she sat back primly, a smile stretching across her small face. Pride practically radiated from her as the light faded to reveal her new senshi.
"Well now! Don't you look fine." She purred as she tilted her head, her tail giving a happy flick. "Don't worry about your clothes... they're safe in subspace. When you power down, they'll reappear on you. Everything you're wearing or holding goes into subspace while you're powered up."
"Darling, you are a Sailor Senshi! A magical warrior for the forces of Order in the universe. You have the ability to change into this new, more powerful form, and with it comes increased speed, defense and strength, as well as magic you'll be able to access while you fight. There are many more people, just like you, who fight in secret to keep this city safe from the Negaverse." Ash knew it was a lot to take in and she bounced to her paws, padding over to twine between the senshi's ankles. "The Negaverse, at its most basic, is a group of people fueled by Chaos energy. They've been preying on the people of this city, taking their energy to power their side. You are in a prized position of being able to do something about it, if you're brave enough to do so. And I'm here to help and guide you, as much as I can."

"Uh, how do I power down? My mom's going to want me back with the groceries soon, and I can't give them to her if they're in subspace." The newly-christened Sadachbia listened attentively to Ash's explanation and wasn't quite sure how much of it to accept. "So I've been recruited?" she asked. "But I've never been one to sit and let injustice happen. If this Negaverse is hurting innocent people, I'll gladly join the fight." This fight didn't seem too different from her usual routine of clobbering bullies; it just seemed that the bullies had magic or something now. "What do I need to do? Just find people being attacked by the Negaverse and protect them?"

The silver cat settled to sit beside her senshi, head craned back to look up at her as she flicked her tail.
"Well, powering down is easy. Just focus on it and sort of... will it to disappear. Its pretty easy when you get the hang of it... just let it happen sort of naturally. If it helps, you can try picturing yourself in your normal clothes and concentrate on that." She said as she shrugged. "A lot of magic is will power."
"I wouldn't say you've been recruited... Order doesn't have a real organization to it. Its more a collection of people working for the same goal; keeping Earth and its people safe. More, its that you have been awakened to your potential! You always had this inside of you, you just needed a cat like me to bring it out of you!" She smiled, her face glowing with pride. "As for what you do, well... that's up to you, really. Each senshi and knight fights in their own way. Most take up a section of the city to protect and spend time in it, keeping the Negaverse at bay. Some join up with others and form teams, some go it alone or with a cat. Its really about how you want to do it... I'm just here to support and guide you. I do know people though! If you wanted a more experienced senshi to talk to, I could give you a few names and contact numbers..."
Darting to her feet, the cat spun in a neat little circle and something fell out of the air to clatter on the ground. Pouncing on it, Ash fussed with it before she pulled something else out of subspace. When she was done, she at up proudly, patting the shiny new phone towards her senshi.
"This is for you! Its a senshi phone! It only works when you're powered up, but it has a bunch of neat features to help you out."

"Hmm, okay," Sadachbia said, accepting Ash's explanation of how to power down, though she didn't revert to civilian just yet. "It sounds like there's lots of ways to go about this. I would appreciate the names of those senshi, if you can give them." She bent down to pick up the new senshi phone, picked it up, and stared at it. "Oh, this is cool. What exactly does it do? I'd guess it makes calls and texts and all that, but what else?"
