Finally! After weeks she managed to find some pae to babysit Arcenciel. She loved the little angel with all her heart, but when was the last time she had a real conversation with an adult? So she quickly skipped town to avoid possibly seeing her daughter out playing -was that a bit harsh?- and glided down to the nearby beach. Wasn't it around here that she had met her one and only friend? A smile flashed on her face. How funny would it be to see her again.
But it had been months. And to see Sparrow here once again, today of all days at this exact time? That was a silly thought. The Guardians would never pass down that amount of luck. No, she'd simply have to see about finding some other pae to chit chat with. She did miss a good conversation.

Sparrow was a free bird: strong and proud. Her daughter had grown magnificently, left to her own to grow and further hone her strength. The hunting was good, the drops from the cliff exhilarating, but for once she was not tied down to remaining at that single nest. Her scent was strong enough in her territory to mark it as hers for some time even if she, herself, was not present.
This meant she could go further into the forest, search for a perhaps more suitable location.
It had been a few days journey since she left, her appetite satiated by small creatures unfortunate enough to happen upon her. Once, she thought she sensed the territory of another and averted her path, but that was more of an interesting find than a hindrance. Now... Now she caught the sublime scent of salt in the blowing against her as she moved through the trees, catching her intrigue and bringing her above the canopy.
Water.
Vast volumes of water as far as even her eyes could see. Waves lapping against a near beach, again and again. Smiling, thrilled by the change in scenery, the harpy's flight increased in speed as she continued forward, to the shore ahead.

The female scanned the area for a suitable pae to strike up a conversation with, but most of the pae were...Naiads. She didn't much care for naiads. It was a beach though, by water. And the strange fish pae required to be around it so she couldn't exactly be surprised.
Plus it was cold. Who went to the beach in winter besides obviously herself and the naiads who were forced to live here?
Well. Now she just felt silly. She scrunched her face before sighing. Maybe she should have stayed in the City, going into it's bazaar area...
Her amber eyes suddenly flicked at a movement on the horizon. Some other pae was crazy enough to fly in here too? With a smooth movement she lifted up into the sky to meet them, just in case they decided to fly over the beach instead of landing. She really wanted to talk to someone
"Hey! HI!" Wait a minute. That dot...looked familiar.

Her movement through the air was brilliantly fast compared to when she was younger. Wings powerful and fully developed, body trained in instinct and spirit. Being in the sky just felt right, as though she herself was the wind.
Eyes narrowed as she caught sight of another, colorful and distinct from her kind, raising into the air to meet her. How foolish for one of these to approach the great beast that she was. Could they not sense her superiority, her power and strength. No matter, she could teach them respect one way or ano--
Wait a second... Was that...
Could it be...?
As Sparrow continued forward, the figure in the distance improved in clarity, her form becoming more distinct and that of her friend Crystal. Well, wasn't this something?

As the little dot grew larger and larger, a smile began spreading on her face. Guardians be praised! She KNEW that little dot! Crystal increased her speed a little to reach the other quicker.
"SPARROW!" The name burst from the rainbow angel lips. "You fly beautifully!"
When they had met, the harpy was just learning how to fly. Now she was bigger, more elegant. The little birdpae she had known was all grown up.
As they met together she pulled back to hover in the air. Hugging in midair was probably out of the question, but she extended both hands to take the others for a 'hand hug'.
"You look amazing!"

The harpy's speed slowed only as she immediately neared the other, part of her still skeptical that it was, in fact, Crystal before her until there was no further denying it. How long had it been since they'd last spoken? Since the mountain, was it?
So much had passed in that time.
She had matured into a fine adult, done many adult things, had a(pair of) child(ren), and had raised her(them) until she(they) were of age. And that was right, she was quite the amazing flyer these days. She would accept no other variation in that thought.
Following Crystal's lead and taking her hands into her own, smiling lightly. Yes, yes she did look amazing, far better than those other pae out there. Though, she would admit that her friend here really was as stunning as ever (even more so than she remembered).
"You look beautiful too!"
Her accent was noticeably rougher than the last time they had spoken due to her lack of using words in recent time. "How've ya been? Haven't seen ya since 'da whole moun'ain ordeal."

When the others hand slipped into hers, she gave them a gently squeeze. "Thank you! Been trying to keep active. Its hard though, I'm so tired of late!" She spoke with a laugh. It had been a while since they had seen each other. What was new? What was new. Well, she decorated her home in the City...she tried her hand at singing...oh, and she did have a child now.
That was rather important, right?
"I've been good though. Keeping busy. I...I've actually adopted a little girl." It was scary that someone like her had such a responsibility, wasn't it? "Do you have time to chit chat?" Sit down, take a load off, talk about the drama in their lives... The Guardians were so good to her to have them run in to each other!

Tired? She didn't look tired; she looked graceful! beautiful! (pretty)! It was so nice to see her again. They should have really tried to keep in touch after they almost died and everything.
Except, well, they almost died.
A girl of her own? Oh how exciting! Certainly the child was not as strong and proud as her own daughter, since it was the blood of herself, but it would be nice to hear of her anyways. "Yes, I 'ave time ta spare; the day's young." This prompted a return squeeze as the harpy looked down at the beach, then back. Wordlessly, she released her grip and let herself fall to the sand, righting herself only to softly land. She moved a few metres to allow Crystal to land. "I'ave a daughter too: Steller Jay. Big and strong. She 'as just left, which is why I'm 'ere."

Her smile spread from ear to ear as Sparrow agreed to talk. It had been too long since they last spoke. This time, she would be sure to put a specific time to next meet up. Following the others gaze to the beach, she let her own body start to fall down. As she became closer to the ground, her rainbow wings snapped out to gently glide after her friend. Sparrow really was so much improved in flight! As expected of course. She never doubted her friends abilities in the slightest.
"Really?!" Oh that was so exciting! "Any daughter of yours I'm sure grew up in good hands." Already grown up and on her own. Time did fly. Her toes wiggled in the soft sand.
"So...does that mean you found someone special?" That pae would have to be special indeed to get Sparrows affections!

Crossing her arms, Sparrow nodded once and beamed with motherly pride. Yes, her child was a child of the most powerful, the most noble, the greatest to walk this island: she had to be. "I am sure she'll do just fine on 'er own. Always did."
As for if she found a special somebody, as her mom used to put it, well... "No." she said it in a matter-of-fact way. "One day I'm 'eavy and 'unting," she motioned with her arms, "Next I 'ave two eggs," another motion, "Then I 'ave Stellar Jay. No special anybody; it was strange for sure."
Nodding, she then motioned to Crystal. "'ave you one for your child?" Naturally, she was going to return the question since it seemed to relate, having a child and someone special anyways.

She grinned ear to ear at her physical representation of being pregnant. It was a shame though that she had to rear two babies all by herself. It was hard enough with just her one as a single parent, Crystal couldn't imagine two!
"Alas, no. I haven't met a pae yet that can handle me!" She laughed warmly with a shrug. "It's a shame I don't know either biological parent for my daughter. I won't have any answers for her if she starts asking questions." The Guardians had delivered her a beautiful angel girl though, and she would continue to raise Arcenciel like she was her flesh and blood. Honestly she didn't think herself ready for such a responsibility, but the Guardians worked in mysterious ways.
"I'd like to meet your babes someday. I bet they're your spitting image." She wondered if Arcenciel was anything like her, if her rearing rubbed off on the child.

Part of Sparrow was relieved to hear of her friend's lack of romantic interests; she was near and dear to her, and the harpy did not particularly like to share, even her friends, with others. A child... That was flesh, blood and family. She could share with family.
The story with Crystal's child, though... It rang deep and true to Sparrow's own upbringing. She was left with a mother ignorant of raising a child or romantic love, and it was pleasant until a new 'special somebody' came along and replaced their family: broke their family.
Crystal was not so ignorant, though. She would not make the same mistake.
She would not betray her daughter by forgetting her amiss a new, blossoming love.
She would find a special someone who could love that child just as much as she.
"She sounds cute an' smart, like you. I am sure if you're 'onest, she'll understand." Sparrow commented, "Stellar Jay? No, she does'nt look a thing like me. Blue an' white like the stellar jay; that's why she's Stellar Jay." Naturally, she had all but forgotten Nighthawk by this point and only referenced her unintentionally and implicitly. She would be just as surprised to learn of the second hatchling.

At Sparrows compliment Crystal all but beamed. It was nice to be recognized! As for Arcenciel and her parents...she hoped Sparrow was right that it would go smoothly. It was sometimes difficult to explain even simple things to children. Explaining something as complicated and potentially life altering...she thanked the Guardians that it hadn't come up yet. And she prayed that the day it would was far away.
She laughed softly at the matter-of-fact name of her friends offspring. She was as straightforward as ever, a trait she was fond of in the blue winged female. "I'm sure she inherited something from you!" The thought of Arcenciel having developed a piece of her warmed her heart, so the angel could only think that Sparrow wanted that as well.
"Speaking of parents though, hows your mom? And uncle?" She remembered talking about how her mother was different, wingless. Perhaps Sparrow now knew what she was?
Besides bird-pae that is.Daisicle Sorry it took so long! <3

Again, Sparrow nodded in a matter-of-fact way. "She 'as blue eyes like I've got. Strong eyes and senses. She's a true 'unter now." Even just passing conversations of her progeny brought great warmth and pride to her bosom, filling her with a pleasing sort of strength. Perhaps the Guardians one day would give her another like Stellar Jay.
This topic change, however, was not welcomed. As her body tensed, her eyes momentarily narrowed likely unlike any way Crystal had previously seen, glancing away, darkened.
Full of hatred.
Full of fury.
It was as if in that very moment the inner beat could come out, snapping and snarling, talons ripping out flesh and fangs bared to lap up the residual flesh and blood. It was clear that this was no longer the awkward, ambitious, arrogant teenager that Crystal had once spoken with: she was now a true hunter.
Then they closed, a breath in, her body tense, and breath out, her body relaxed. Looking back to her friend, her composure regained and tone stabilized, she answered back plainly. "I 'aven't seen them since the mountain. They're dead to me." Though her tone was calmed, there was a certain edge to it that made it clear that any further push into the topic would not be welcome.
"Do the Guardians still speak to you and the others of your kind in your city?"
Topic change.

Stellar Jay sounded just as beautiful as her momma. Crystal smiled warmly at the mental image, glad that Sparrow seemed happy.
At least, seemed it right then and there. Her eyes widened at the sudden wave of pure malice. One moment they were friends idly chatting, the next the angel felt genuine fear. She took a step back, shocked and half ready to flee if the harpy decided to take her aggression out on a certain rainbow bright angel.
But Sparrow made a visible effort to calm herself. A deep breath in, and the monster within was caged again. Her voice though...the earlier moment of peace and contentment had been shattered.
What had happened between her and her family?
One thing was for sure, she'd sooner have her feathers plucked than ever bring it up again.
"Y-yes. More than ever. In fact, they just sent a pae on a mission, and he came back a hero!"Daisicle Sparrow scared poor Crystal T.T
