Cami wasn't sure she'd read what she'd read properly. Silence stretched before her phone blipped twice more, giving two more short messages that seemed rather desperate. She could hear Otto's pleas in her head as if he were beside her. Certainly he was beside himself over this. Immediately she'd turned back towards the portal. Even before asking she'd intended to return home because he clearly needed someone. She intended him to need her. It was always good to be needed. Remembering she'd spent the better part of three days in a jungle the redhead had the presence of mind to dunk herself in a temperate stream, scrubbing the worst of the grime off. The odds of having time for a shower immediately upon getting home were probably some sort of imaginary number that Mimsy would understand. Thankfully she was rather good at an unobtrusive return to the island by this point. Gear stowed she let herself into the room she shared with Otto, flipping the lock with a determined look. "Otto? You home, sweetie?" Looking at the couch, noting the lack of lump beneath blankets, she beelined for the bedroom.

It had taken a long time for Otto to work up the nerve to go into his own apartment. Thankfully, Maebe wasn't at home right now. He couldn't bear to face her, after all the times he'd pressured her into his beliefs of loyalty and monogamy. Guilt ate at him just as much as shame and self loathing did. He was awful. What was with him this past year? He'd often go off track from his own rules and morals, all because the moment felt good. Now, he was really beginning to pay for it.
He had himself a scalding hot shower, and then made his way into the bedroom. Their bedroom. Him and his girls. Two girls... what pig needed two women? What a*****e wanted two women, and still had the audacity to allow himself to get roped into sex with a....
A....
He felt sick again. The hot shower had done nothing to ease his upset stomach. He crumpled by the window in the bedroom, wrapping his arms around himself and his baggy hoodie.
Then, as the silent room nearly made him deaf, a sweet voice came through. He gasped, turning his head as Cami rushed in. It was her. She was home. And best of all, he still felt happy when he saw her pretty face.
But that happiness died at the hands of his guilt. His face fell into despair, and a wide grimace overtook him. He didn't deserve someone so forgiving and open minded.
"Cami.." He barely managed to say it aloud, struggling to his feet to greet her.

Being that it was Cami she'd dumped her things unceremoniously by the front door. Coat, scarf, boots, bag, all in a heap blocking the locked door. Fire hazard. As if fire could kill them! She was a testament to the fact that it would take more than a little bit of fire to kill a hunter. Watching his face first light up, then crumple in on itself, almost broke her heart. She understood that feeling, had seen that look on other faces before, but hated seeing it on Otto's. He was too good to hate himself so much.
Without hesitation she walked over to wrap the blond in a hug, resting her forehead lightly against his in the softest of headbutts. "Don't tear yourself apart. Deep breath." Lightly her hand ran up and down his back, a soothing motion. "Then tell me all about it." Already she knew that there was a major complication in the fact that Otto had slept with someone not her. Not for her feelings, for Cami didn't mind a roving eye (obviously), but for Maebe's?
She needed to know what happened so she could know how to damage control from here. Though, as much as she loved her demanding sweetheart, Otto came first. He was her best friend, her family, as well as her lover. He was her person and she needed to take care of him.

It was hard not to tear himself apart. He'd found himself in lot's of horrible situations these last few years. But this? Did he just fall for anyone who'd give him the time of day? Was he really so cheap?
He clung to Cami as if she was his life line to his comfort zone. Everything here was safe. Maebe? He was scared of Maebe. Cami was home.
"M'scared to talk about it." He muttered into the taller woman's shoulder. If he talked about it, it'd feel more real. And he'd have to accept that he'd done it. He squeezed her tighter, fighting back memories of the night before, no matter how blurry they were. "I don't even remember most of it."

Having been a woman who would give herself to the first person who asked on any given day could (and would) have told Otto that it wasn't about being cheap. It was about having a need that went unfulfilled. What need of his was not being met? It was one reason she wanted to talk about what had happened and it's what she explained. Fingers slid up into his loose hair, fingertips rubbing at his scalp the way she knew he loved.
"Well, I don't so much want to know what happened during the big event. Well. I do but..." For a moment she giggled before shaking her head and trying to find her serious self again. It wasn't always easy to be the eldest. "I was most interested in trying to help you understand why it happened. Things like this don't just happen. There's something that you wanted, that you got last night, and we need to figure out what." It didn't occur to her to reassure Otto that she wasn't angry at him, that she was fine with the whole thing, and that she was there for him.
It went without saying.

Why it happened. Yeah, he wanted to know that too. He let her laughter slide, only because it sounded like angels singing. He gave a nod, and pulled away, but only a little.
Something that he wanted, and got fulfilled?
"I dunno.. I dunno how to figure that out.." He said through a wavering voice on the verge of becoming upset again. "I don't know.."

There were a lot of things Cami knew how to do when it came to calming someone down. You could hug them, hold their hand, help them talk through it, hold things while someone else hit them. Taym was helping her get better at the non-physical and she wasn't sure if he was aware he was her guinea pig or not. Otto, thankfully, allowed her to be hands-on. Especially in his worst moments.
So when her first reaction was to press him closer so that his face was all but mashed into the softness of her bosom, she didn't think he'd object. If he did then Cami would know she was dealing with something so awful that not even that could distract or calm him. Then they might need to go for a run. Or get some chocolate.
Damn. She should have grabbed some on the way back! Hindsight was 20/20 and, these days, for Cami? More like 500/20. Nonetheless she again made soothing sounds. "You don't have to figure it out right NOW. We just have to start. Okay? Breathe, honey."

That he got to be comforted by his best friend, and be held against her soft and ample bosom? How was he so lucky, despite all he did wrong? His hands clung to the fabric of her jacket, and he tried to breathe, just like she said. It was way too easy for him to fall into hysterics. Too too easy.
He gave himself time. Time to calm down before he asked anything.
"How..?"

For a moment she took her arms from around Otto, piling her hair on top of her head before securing it with a hairband. Then she hugged him again, tightly, before taking a step back. "C'mon, get in bed. This is going to be awhile so we might as well be comfortable." Without waiting for him to move she herself crawled up and onto the orange blanket, snuggling up to it. A little impatiently she gestured that he should join her, though like everything Cami did there was no pressure behind it. If he wanted to pace, so be it.
She was going to be comfortable.
Settled down into Otto's pillow (funny how she always seemed to be invading his space and was on his things more often than her own) the position was perfect for him to cuddle in if he so chose. "First question's easy. Who was it?"

Thankfully, since the deed had not been on a bed, it didn't hold any stigma for now. The same would not be said for camping, from now on.
Otto crawled in after Cami once she'd settled, burying himself in her embrace. She was safe. She was home. She was so warm.
She asked who, and the image of how Otto had left Zac burned itself in his mind. "Um... a guy that works with me on the training course." He mumbled, fidgeting with the fabric of her clothes. "...Zac." Saying his name made him feel weird. Very weird. Good or bad, he didn't know.

Despite the seriousness of her sudden return home it was impossible to be anything but happy and content when Otto was curled up against her. Everything ached a little less, nothing seemed as horrible, when Cami was home with at least one of her sweethearts. Both of them was the pinnacle of bliss but, all things considered, she was finally grateful Maebe wasn't there. It had to have happened eventually. Too bad she couldn't tell Maebe about it.
The name was noted and tucked away. "Hmmm. Newbie Sun, right? Name sounds familiar but I don't really know him. Okay, second question. Where was it?" Admittedly the idea that Otto had someone not her or Maebe in their bed was unsettling. It certainly made her curl a little closer, a bit more possessively, because this was their space.
She hadn't noticed that the sheets hadn't been changed since she was last here. There was no way Otto would have left the same sheets on the bed if the deed had been done here. To be fair, however, she had bigger problems at the moment.

"It was nearby the training course I made." He answered mechanically, yet still in a mumble. That part was easy. It was a detail not directly addressing the deed. "So.. In the woods.. We'd been fixing some stuff on it." That brought on more memories. He remembered they'd stopped for the night. It was cold. They had booze on hand to celebrate the repairs.

Oh. Oh God. It was Bareback Mountain all over again. Inside of her mind Kidana was telling Cami, rather forcefully, that she could not laugh. Otto would not understand and he would not forgive so easily her laughter out of nowhere for a joke he wasn't privy to. Pressing her lips together tightly, because he couldn't see them anyway, she took a deep breath before continuing.
"In Canada? Well that almost solves things right there. It's cold up there. I hear that's all there is to do to keep warm sometimes." She wasn't laughing but she was trying to lighten things a bit. While wondering if either of them was wearing a flannel shirt. "Why were you drinking? Was it because something was wrong or was it just something to do to pass the time?"

Cami's self control was strong enough to save Christmas from the Grinch.
Her light jokes aside, Otto was still miserable about the whole thing. He didn't want to allow himself the pleasure of accepting his true feelings on it. "We had a lot of work to do on some repairs that needed t'be done. Like... we were excited with made something so big, yanno? Got late.. we were bored, I guess? It's still fuzzy."
He'd wanted to work it out with the man himself. If anyone would know what happened, he would. But.. Zac had been beside himself. And Otto had been scared off by the man's odd behaviour.

Well, there were worse reasons to have drunken one night stands than boredom and celebration. Cami was pretty sure that was how most of college went. Bored, passed your finals, got through another class, screw around. It was easy to forget that Otto was of the age where he should be in college, experiencing all of this in a setting a little less life-or-death.
It made her heart ache enough that she leaned down to kiss his cheek softly, snuggling him closer. "I definitely understand fuzzy. Most of college was fuzzy." For a few moments she was silent trying to figure out how to ask the next question. Several times she asked the question to Kidana in her mind. If the revenant wasn't offended then Otto wouldn't be.
Kidana was far more of a prude than the blond would ever be. Cami wondered what happened to her guardian to make the ghost girl so incredibly prim. She wasn't born that way. Nobody was.
Eventually she sighed and just flat-out asked. "If you hadn't had Maebe and I, would you still be upset about this?"
