Winter Break did not stop Emily from her reasearch. Although normal students were at home goofing off, Emily was reading about the "Battle Bots" TV show; battle bots and various methods of self defense, the mantra "I will not be a victim" rolling in her head like a mantra, blue eyes focusing. That didn't mean she was ignoring anyone though, but her large coffee was the only indicator she moved often, two empty cups nearby and a third beginning to be sipped. Still she seemed to ignore anyone who came near, almost wrapped in a bubble until she reached for her cup for a drnk, and bumped someone's hand, looking up, and blinking. "Sorry."

Joseph had only come in to grab a quick cup of coffee before heading home after work, but the pretty brunette with her face bent over a book was distracting enough that he changed his mind. Taking his order, he sat down near her and sipped his drink, letting her work in peace until she bumped into him of her own accord.
"S'okay," he said, and raised an eyebrow at her. "Hitting the books hard? You were kind of in your own li'l world there for a while."

Emily raised a brow breifly, blinking. He was painfully cute for a red head, and she shrugged. "Studying. Mostly information regarding the construction of automatons and remote controls." She shrugged. "Personal project. Considering entering it into Battle Bots. Bot Ears.. Y'know." Because nothing worked better than a full-on lie; she was working on self defense and she knew it, but not like she'd say so. "How about you?" Whoever she was, he was talking to her now, so.

"Nahhh," Joseph drawled, leaning back in his seat. "I'm taking advantage of my break to get more work-hours in, not studyin'. It's good practice for my major, anyway."
He smiled at her and indicated her books. "Battle bots, huh? You the type to like tech?"

"You can say that." Emily responded, calming some. "I doubt I'll get as far as I like but at least I can probably made a decent can opener." She rolled her eyes. As much as being the daughter of someone specializing in tech was fun, she dtill lacked the capability for what she really wanted, although, it was porobably for the best. "What's your major then?" She asked, shrugging. "Theatre? Culinary? Mixology?" She wasn't attempting real mean-ness, but... Work being a practice? Wat?

"Psht," Joseph tried not to snicker at her suggestions. "I'm no theatre kid, 'n if I was a culinary student I'd burn half the kitchen down b'fore I managed to make anything edible. As for mixology... eh, just not interested in that." He grinned and leaned back in his seat, glancing over the books again idly. "Nah, 'm an automotive major. Work at the mechanic's down on 31st." Not that they let him work on the interesting jobs yet. But he could understand why not - he was still learning, after all, and the new guy, besides.

And suddenly Emily leaned forwards. Cars were machines! She spoke machine! "Really? What kind of computer software to assess car problems do they use? What kind of work do you do? Do you know the inner workings of engines yet?" ALL valuable information of course. All of it.

"Whoa whoa whoa, slow down, pretty lady," Joseph said, laughing as he lifted his hands in a 'defensive' manner'. "Questions later, introductions first. Ain't that usually the order of things?" At least she was eager - most girls he'd told this too kind of went 'eh' when he mentioned his major and career, or worse, started asking if they could come by to watch him work. ...Come to think of it maybe he just hadn't been around very good women.

"I'm not pretty." Emily blinked, motioning. "I am an overgrown noodle." And then she blinked. "Oh. Right. Introductions. Sorry, I'm sort of shitty at people." She shrugged. "I got homeschooled through highschool because my father's paranoid. Emily. Emily Wren Wiley." And she offered a handshake. At least she hadn't asked to go watch him work yet, but she'd also pepper the shop in questions and possibly see about smuggling her uncle's car in to learn to tune the old thing. Or her father's car. He barely used the poor thing...

"You think prettiness is bodytype specific?" Joseph blinked. "I'll have you know y' have very, very lovely eyes miss." Reaching out, he grasped her hand across the table and grinned. "Joseph Ross. Nice t' meet you, miss Wiley." Sounded like someone needed a self-confidence boost. Badly.

"Psh, please, Miss Wiley, I'm not about to get myself blown up." Which wasn't precisely telling the girl 'no', but hey, if she wanted to invoke an injoke of that sort then she had better be ready to face the consequences. Because really - motorcycle helmets representing robots? Majestic horse ponchos? Death by keytar? Of course Joseph knew about the Source of all that was Awesome.... and bizarre. Utterly bizarre. But hey, the band made good music. And their queen covers were pretty damn decent, too.

Joseph blinked, then snickered. "Oh my god. Your dad is Dr. Wiley?." Extra letter or no, that coincidence was hilarious. Joseph had to wonder if the man himself knew about the irony of his name. "D' I need to watch my back for sniping attack robots for flirting with you?" This was a really, really interesting coffee shop - good thing he'd decided to come in after all! Emily stifled a giggle, grinning at Joseph, homework all but forgotten. "Oh yes! He's very protective you know. So stern. Which based on her giggles meant he was an overly exciteable fop that made her smile, and she giggled again before pausing. "Flirting? Is that what this is?"
