It finally happened. What water was left in the reserves of the lake below his house were depleted. Without ground water and fresh water from the city, Afryse realized that there was little chance of him staying there. They would return, both Lusus and boy had agreed. Return to their Hive (or else they'd have to start their stuff collection all over again).

For the first time, the troll was in New Hemisect City. Many other Chittentown refugees were there, but they were either being shoved back onto the train or shuffled to another town. It was dangerous being here, what with the greed and envy that drove both Witikodad and his charge, but there was no other option. They either stayed and found water or they died back home.

Sneaking from the train, Afryse and Wintikodad found themselves scrounging on the streets, seeking food and a place to stay. Especially water.

----

This was much harder than it seemed. Groaning, the troll leaned against a building wall and stared out at the relatively active street. What as he going to do?

      Zindel was thirsty.

Rubbing some of the filth from his dirty nose, the redblood was dumpster diving for some sort of container he could store water in, having no other way to get a container. There had been absolutely none of them in his new group home, which came as something of a shock to him-- maybe his so called allies had taken the last ones or something. Greeaat. With a sigh, the redblood kept looking.

There was squishy stuff, smelly stuff, hard stuff covered in goop... ew. Zindel was avoiding most of that s**t, using other items he found to push them away and continuing to look for something. Wrenmom chirped from above, sitting on the unopened lid of the large trash bin and being on the lookout for any drones, just in case they came around. She was good at that, thankfully-- every other thing he asked her to do, she'd fail at it. He adored his mum, yeah, but sometimes, he couldn't help but wonder how exactly such a clueless seeming bird kept him alive in his younger years.

Zindel dug deeper in the trash, shoving some of the bags aside and kicking the horn of a discarded corpse to the side, hearing a little crackling sound. His eyes brightened up as he pushed his hand into the crack, hand closing over the neck of the bottle and pulling it up with some effort, finding-- hey, was this... Jackpot. He had pulled a dirty bottle of Faygo from the trash-- sure, no cap, but hey, he could grab the one he saw on the side of the trash can or something. The bottle was marked grape, but was slightly filled with something green... so Zindel wasn't going to take any chances, emptying it out and making a little pile of trash. He climbed it out of there, using his shirt to wipe some dirty smudges he now had on his arms.

Away with Wrenmom he went, to the nearest fountain in the city. It wasn't very popular, thankfully, so there was only one drone there, and they were half asleep. Zindel managed to clean out s**t from the water bottle and get some delicious clean water, then make a break for it when the drone finally woke up. On his way back to the group hive, Zindel passed by the street, drinking enough water to fill him and saving the rest for later, when he was more thirsty. The want for water was gone now, but his mouth still felt parched. He'd be fine without water though... he'd offer it to one of his companions or something. Gain their trust, yada yada. Hopefully they didn't hurt him or whatever.

Zindel walked on a busy street, uncaring of the wrinkles noses of disgust that were sent to him-- he couldn't care less right then and there. It had been fun for him, kinda like a different fun...? Maybe? All he knew was that he felt good, holding the half filled bottle of water as he passed by the busy street. He passed by some weird kid in heavy clothing, with his creepy lusus, laying on the wall of a building. He never saw this kid before, and Zindel was sure he'd seen most of the native kids around the area... "Ey, are you alright?" Zindel asked, seeing his pained expression and quirking an eyebrow at him, holding the bottle of water next to him. "I've never seen you around these parts. Who are you?"

A voice, the only voice so far that was aimed at his slumped body. Afryse cracked an eye open. The very first thing that the yellowblood spotted was a bottle of clear Faygo. What, did they make that sort of flavor now? What could it be? Jeeze, was this some sort of faygo-drunk? Witikodad was the first one to get their wits back and made a soft grunting sound mixed with a shuffle of bones. Afryse lookd over his shoulder and watched as a bony finger pointed to the bottle. "I know you're thir---" Afryse's voice cracked and failed. He gulped once, but no saliva was there to help, "Thirsty, but... Faygo?"

"Imik. Kattak." Witikodad's voice was soft, but it sounded like two stone being ground together while a stiff breeze rattled bones. Afryse winced, but understood him. Not that he understood the words. Witiko spoke another language, but he knew what Imik was. Water.

Looking back at Zindel, he pointed shakily at the bottle, "I.... I need water.. Please I'm from Chittetown. We're in a drought. I need it. Please."

Zindel quirked his eyebrow at the exhausted yellowblood, then looked at the lusus next to him with suspicious eyes. Looking around wearily, Zindel's impassive expression searched for Wrenmom, only not to see her anywhere. Figures. Wrenmom was probably hanging with her fluffbeast friends. Looking back at the yellowblood, Zindel felt a little annoyance slide into him. Whatever. With a small huff, he looked over to the trolls lusus and watched it... point at the water in his bottle? "Faygo...?" What the hell was that? Some sort of drink? Slowly, his eyes widened slightly. Oh. These guys were from the Chittentown disaster. That explained their pained, exhausted expressions.

Zindel felt a small tug in the pit of his nutrition sack when watching the yellowblood, rubbing his neck a little and looking to the side. Alright, this kid was suspicious as hell. He could either run for it, oooor, give him some... He looked like the kind of troll who had a little bit of stuff on him. Maybe. Or maybe he was just a poor yellowblood. A lot of them had pretty shitty living. He looked exhausted and... like he was going through a really, really horrible day. Looking at the bottle of left over water, he looked at the yellowblood with dull eyes, clenched his teeth indecisively and handed it over. "Go ahead and drink it all." He said gruffly, looking away again and sighing-- his kid didn't seem like he was lying. He looked pathetic enough. In his mind, he could hear himself lecture himself-- You shouldn't trust trolls, Zindel. They'll all just abandon you or stab you in the back one day. But whenever he looked at the troll, he couldn't help but feel a little sad for him. Maybe what he was doing was right. Maybe it was wrong. Only time will tell.

Sweet, sweet water... Taking the bottle in his hands, Afryse pressed it to his lips and drank. It went down so smooth and he couldn't care if he was drinking pure subjugullator spit. It was sweet water and the ache in his throat felt relieved after so many days in the dry desert.

Witikodad growled and pushed his charge's shoulder roughly. Wincing, Afryse forced himself to not choke while pulling the bottle from his lips. Roughly half was left from what Zindel had given. Offering it to his lusus, he watched as the beast slurped it down and belched unceremoniously. Enviously he stared at the bottle, wishing it would refill. Taking it from his lusus, he sighed sadly. All gone.

Of course, now without the nagging thirst, Afryse realized he had accepted help from someone he didn't know. At least their home was around here. There was no way that the troll could follow and try to steal or get things for his kind actions. Afryse handed the bottle back to Zindel, locking eyes with the other troll, "Thank you... I... I mean I... I've been so thirsty and I just... Thank you, thank you so much."

He didn't like asking for help, but at least the troll was kind enough to give it. Standing up, he stared at the ground and shuffled his foot. In reality he should have left then and gone to find more water, as well as some of his own containers to bring it home. That was what Witikodad surely wanted to do. Afryse, on the other hand, didn't like leaving a debt unpaid

"Ca-an I do something for you? Or offer you something in return? We are lower caste, after all... We should stay together."

Watching the kid take his bottle and start slurping that s**t down faster than he could say 'goodbye,' it now left him with an awkward situation on his hands. Sure, he felt good he had given stuff away, yeah, but hell, yellowbloods weren't that poor. They could get money or jobs without being looked at weirdly. (...Not that Zindel ever wanted a job. Ew.) Why was this one, who obviously had more than he needed, begging like... Like... Well, himself?

Watching the lusus slam a hand into his shoulder, Zindel raised an eyebrow. Egh. He was just glad Wrenmom knew how to survive on her own. He definitely did not want to have to stick his neck out for someone else. I mean, Wrenmom was great and stuff, but well, she was barely there. No, no, Zindel didn't miss her! He'd be fine. He was a big troll. Or well. Mentally. His scrawny bones doomed his future.

Listening to the other troll give his thanks, Zindel raised an eyebrow. "Don't mention it." He stated with a swift grab of the bottle, eyes watching the kid suspiciously before eyeing his lusus a little. "Seriously. Don't." He didn't like praise. Praise meant recognition, and Zindel definitely didn't want that. Lifting his nose slightly, Zindel rubbed at it a little before hearing the yellowblood continue to talk to him.

What. He wanted to help him?! Hell no. Maybe money but... Hm. Crossing his arms slightly, the redblood's expression slid to his normal smirk. "I don't particularly need anything." He thought a little before pursuing his lips, his slight irregular tooth slipping past his lip. "You go your way, and I'll go my own. Bye."

And with that, Zindel turned and left.

This troll was so suspicious, and it made Afryse stomach flip flop in rage and shame. Afryse flushed yellow and watched as the other swiped back the bottle and seemed so eager to leave him in the dust. Being looked down upon by other trolls was a common occurrence, but this was ridiculous. They were both lowbloods and this guy was treating Afryse like gum under his shoe.

His rage rose and bit at the back of his tongue as he watched the redblood walk away. "You..." Coldness formed at the tips of his fingers. Witikodad was mumbling something, but Afryse couldn't hear it, "Are.... Such... An... a*****e!"

Afryse lunged, his arm reaching out to catch Zindel's arm. Instead of his hand connecting with the other troll, ice shot from finger tips. WHAT? NO! It was aimed to hit Zindel, as they were still close together.

Zindel almost stopped when he heard the yellowblood speak, but decided against it, considering he sounded a little... Well, mad. He almost tried to rush away, when he suddenly felt a cold feeling grab his arm, the freezing feeling making his arm burn from the cold. With a loud whimper, the redblood looked over at his arm, wide-eyed. He merely gaped at it for a second before beginning to tremble in fear— Holy ********, was he powered?! Where the HELL did that ice come from?! Now within the cold field of Afryse's personal (and extremely cold) space, the dancer gulped a little, then began breathing a little faster. Zindel begged, instantly assuming the worst as the he watched the ice spread slightly.he couldn't exactly wrench his arm away from his coldness, and by this time, his arm was going numb. "I h-helped you and you're— HURTING me?!" He exclaimed in a panic, looking for some way, any way to some how survive this encounter. Right now, all Zindel wanted to do was run. "If— you want to help me, th-than— just, just let me g-go!" What if he was a spy? A— ******** pet of the empire, sent to kill the thieves? His paranoia increased by tenfold. s**t, s**t, please, please don't kill me, please...

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm so so sorry!" Afryse tried to pull his arm back but the ice held fast. Panic began to burn up his chest like wild fire as he was pressed, tangled, into the redblood. Yellow tears clumped against his lids, "******** I didn't mean to I -- I promise you I didn't! It just happened and I..."

I hate my powers he wanted to blurt out, but bit his lower lip. Why couldn't he just be normal like the others? It was so scary. "I just wanted to help you cause you helped me and I wanted to be friends because you seemed cool and mysterious and I don't have any friends!" Afryse kept babbling on, never stopping, and all the while jerking his arm back roughly to get them apart. It didn't budge.

"NUTARA!" Witikodad growled, his voice like bones and wind grounding together over a rumbling base. It broke Afryse's panic. Taking a few gulping breaths, the ice troll tried to calm himself enough to recall the power. He focused on the ice, but it refused to let them go, "I can't control it. I think I'm still too dehydrated." Taking in a shuddering breath he let it out slowly before looking at Zindel with an intense calmness, "We need to get to a place with warmer water. If we soak it, it will melt. Your arm will be fine."

Zindel barely heard his apologies, still bewildered at the fact that the kid was powered. He shivered as he was moved, clenching his jaw and looking toward the now crying yellowblood, thinking it was an act. He just wanted to use him o-or something! Right...?! Promises didn't matter. Fear was still clenched over his pump biscuit as he heard his miniature rant, eyes widening as he listened. His face scrunched up, angry and frightened. "I-I'm not your friend!" He yelled, frightened and moving when he tugged on the ice around his arm, whimpering— I'm no one's friend! He didn't need them, he didn't need anyone! "W-we should just, just break it or something! I, I don't care I it hurts!" He just wanted to run away right now, he really did. He hated that, being trapped and held down, caged like a bird. He wasn't a bird, he, he was a troll, a troll...

s**t, Zindel, calm the hell down, he thought to himself— his thoughts weren't even making sense by now and had little to no relation to what was happening. He took a deep breath and clenched his teeth. "I don't care what I have to do... I hate this, I really do...!" He murmured, distressed.

Zindel's words smacked Afryse across the face, stunning the troll and breaking his heart. The look of shock on his face quickly melted back into neutral expression. What am I saying? Friends? Tsk. How pathetic of me.

Standing up, he jerked his arms, "Come on. Warm water. Let's find it and then I will leave you alone." Afryse spat the last word out, not that he had any right to act offended. He wasn't the one being locked in ice.

The expression of shock the troll gave him was almost enough to bring Zindel back to reality, calming him down and making him send an indignant glare right back at Afryse. He just wanted to get over and out of this, especially now that the ice was spreading around his arm. "I-I know somewhere, just, follow me and try to keep if from freezing my entire arm." He shuddered, actually feeling quite cold. He didn't have much meat on his bones due to lack of nutrition, and the cold was only enforcing that. Leading them away from where they were, the redblood stole occasional glances toward the bitter yellowblood, feeling indifferent toward his resentment toward him but worried that in a fit of anger the other might freeze him completely...

Clenching his teeth and tugging on the handcuff of ice, Zindel led the way to an area that seemed... A little too regal for a simple redblood to even be near it. It was an elaborate and large hive still in the city decked out in blue, but seemed... Barely used. Rubbing his eye with his free (and not numb) hand, Zindel squinted at the hive and pursed his lips, looking at the yellowblood and then toward the house, he motioned toward it and clenched his teeth. "I go there to take baths sometimes. The troll-- They have warm water. If we're quiet and stealthy, we won't get caught. Their alarm system is pretty light." Breathing in and out to calm himself before rubbing his neck hurriedly, the thief pursed his lips and exhaled through his nose. "It's the only a quick trip in and out."

Afryse didn't like the idea, but anything was better than staying attached to this nooksucker any longer than he had to. Plus, the words water sent the dehydrated yellowblood into a tizzy of excitement (all internal). "That sounds good. How do we get in?"

Witikodad had followed the children, but remained in the shadows now. Affy felt his piercing stare on the back of his neck. Not now...
PostPosted: Mon Jul 20, 2015 10:42 am

"Uh." Zindel usually just walked in through the front or back door. It wasn't hard, really. Rubbing his nose, he squinted at the house before retying his sash and musing his hair back. "I always just go through the front door. The troll's never been around. Since we both need to go in, we'll need a look out..." Looking around the sky, Zindel squinted again before seeing a small white bird soaring in the air. Chirping a little, softly, he tried getting her attention. Nothing. Again, still nothing. Letting out an urgent chirp, Wrenmom finally heard, circling them from the air before soaring downwards and landing right on Zindel's head. He rubbed her neck softly and fondly before chirping a little and motioning where to go. She responded before landing on his arm and pecking the ice, earning a shake of his head and an annoyed grunt. They couldn't break it, apparently it was quite literally connected to the skin?

Rubbing his temple, the redblood blinked as he watched Wrenmom take to the skies and hover around the area, scouting out the outside. "Alright, she'll be our eyes. Mum's being competent for once, so we can just walk right in." He murmured, throwing a hesitant glance toward Afryse. "You ready?"
