It wasn't easy to surprise Claude, much less move her, and she found herself experiencing both lately. She had been surprised and moved, between a variety of things. She'd been given Christmas gifts, which was wasn't expecting, much less from people she most certainly wasn't expecting them from. The little deer from Dawn was sitting on her desk, and the jewelry from Chance was in her ring box, with the exception of the earrings, which was she wearing. Then the notes and the extra surprise 'thank you' note from one artist, was taped to the wall above her desk. It was making for an interesting time, really. Interesting and maybe dare she say pleasant. Claude had a small bag in her hang as she ventured down the hall, and was out of her usual uniform and dressed casually, because why not. It was the holidays and she didn't have any duties lined up. She stopped in front of Chance's door, and rapped her knuckles on the door, waiting to see if he was in.

Chance was, in fact, in. Seeing as how he had no one particularly special to spend the holidays with, and no plans other than to lounge around in his pajamas all day, it came as somewhat of a surprise that someone knocked on his door. Currently lying the wrong way on his bed, feet propped up on his pillow, Chance swung his legs over the side and stood up. He took a second to stretch, working out the kinks in his neck, and padded barefoot over to the door, unlocking it and letting it swing open.
His eyebrows rose.
"What a nice present," he said lazily, a smile worming its way onto his face. Chance took a step back and let the door open a bit wider, leaning against it with all the easy casualness as usual.
"What brings you to my humble abode these fine holidays, Claude?"

"Careful, Chance, I might swoon." She told him flatly, before her lips pulled up in a smirk. She then held up her small plastic bag. " They say sharing is caring, Christmas is the time of giving and experiencing joy from giving...or some bull s**t like that." She pushed her hair back over her shoulder with her other hand. "So in true pirate fashion, I'm commandeering your time in name of the holidays." Did she care if he was doing anything else? No...the fact he answered the door and that there was no one in his room said all it needed to for her.

"You're too classy to swoon," was Chance's dry answer as he stepped back further, gesturing for Claude to come in. He was dressed in a pair of loose sweatpants that hung low on his hips and a long-sleeved teeshirt with galaxy print splashed across the front. His hair was messy, as usual, but looked even more so this time, like he'd been sleeping on it funny (spoiler: he had).
"Don't have any other holiday plans?" Chance asked as he made his way back to his bed, leaving the door open for Claude to do as she wished. He flopped down, completely at ease, and reached for his water bottle, unscrewing the cap and taking a swallow.
"Not that I mind the company, it's much better than sitting around staring at the wall."

Claude gave him a wink for his right answer. Too classy indeed. The trainee stepped in once she was welcomed, and did a glance over of Chance's comfy clothes. "You always make me feel over dressed." She commented, and pulled off her boots before placing them by the door, carefully shifting her bag as she did so. She looked over her shoulder as he asked his question. "I did." Claude answered, standing straight up and reached out to push his door closed. "Christmas brunch in the town with my brother and his..." She trailed off for a moment, wondering what would she'd use exactly to describe Ami, and in the mean time, moved follow him to the bed. Claude took a seat on the edge, crossing her legs and placing the bag on her lap for the time being. "Girlfriend...is the clearest way I can explain it." With one hand, she pushed her hair back over her shoulder. "I'm surprised you don't have anyone to spend the holidays with." She replied in earnest, whether it be friends or...whatever.

He smiled at her, one eyebrow raised. "What can I say, I like comfort," said Chance mildly, waving a hand in a noncommittal sort of way. "And I've never cared much for outward appearances either, so I just sort of...dress however the ******** I want to dress, really. Sometimes it's like this, sometimes it's relatively more decent."
There was a flicker of amusement in his eyes. "That was a long pause," he said pointedly. "Is it one of those weird relationships where they're not really dating?"
Chance yawned, raking a hand through his curls as Claude sat down on the edge of his bed. He drew one leg up absently and looped his fingers together around his knee, smiling benignly. "Everyone I would care to spend the holidays with is spending them with other people," he said, without a trace of annoyance or bitterness in his voice. Facts were facts, and there was no use getting upset over them. Chance could have cared less that the people he was starting to consider as his "friends" hadn't seemed inclined to spend the holidays with him. "And I figured, nice and quiet is the way to go."
He nodded towards the bag. "What'd you bring?"

"I'll wait for the day I'll see you in your pajamas during a duty then." She teased, and then chuckled. "It was a long pause." She conceded, and then shook her head. "No, they're definitely dating. My brother is quite certain she is ah.. the one...but..." Claude paused again, her eyes lidding as she mulled over something. "I'll finish that thought another time." Deciding her hair was a bother right now, Claude pulled a scrunchie from a pocket and took to pulling all her hair back into a low ponytail. "What a bunch of dicks." She said, without meaning a word of it. She didn't know who his friends were exactly, but she'd tease once more anyways since none of them were here. "I get points, right?" Claude asked with a light smirk, and once her hair was secured, held up the bag. "Rum cake. Moist, delicious rum cake with pineapples in it." Though her tone was quite causal as she spoke about them, she had been more than elated when she found this stand in the mall. It was some of the best damn rum cake she ever had. "I bought some--" Actually, a few shopping bags full "--when I was on a Christmas shopping mission with Jack." She reached into the bag and took out a container that was the size of a show box, and then opened it, showing off the rum cake in all its glory. "Sharing is caring." She told him flatly.

"Probably, yes," said Chance, with a flicker of his eyes toward the ceiling. "I don't mind doing duties, though; keeps me occupied. I do like being comfortable; and I've already told you before that I like what I like, whatever that is," he added, with an amused look in Claude's direction.
Chance had already come to the conclusion that everyone on Deus was just doing their own thing when it came to relationships, and so far he hadn't seen anyone in what could have been deemed a "stereotypical" relationship. Granted, his view was limited to Finn and Ripley's little "agreement," and perhaps two others, so he might have been a little skewed.
"Right, I know." Chance rolled his eyes, taking another swallow of water. "Stupid ********, letting me here by myself."
The idea of cake was pleasant, though. He gave it a look of interest, Chance pushing himself up a little as he leaned against the wall, crossing one ankle over the other. "Ah, so you know Mr. Positivity as well," he said, sounding faintly entertained. "I've had the pleasure of meeting him myself. He doesn't really seem like the cake person to me, though..."
Not that he even knew Jack well enough to decide otherwise. Chance smiled.
"Got a fork, or are we finger-fooding it?"

"Been in the underwater observation pod?" Claude asked. "That's a curious duty." She chuckled then, shaking her head a bit at the friend banter. "Mr. Positivity?" She seemed amused at the nickname for Jack. "I'll have to use that the next time I see him, and I do. I vandalized his desk for quite some time and for a cease fire, he bought me my own fancy pen." She smirked, and then snorted softly. "Oh, the cake was all for me anyways. Screw Jack." She placed the open box between the two of them, and then reached in to pull a piece of cake off for herself. "I never used a fork to eat this." She took a bite of the delicious cake, and reveled in the taste before she spoke again. "You've really been in the Christmas spirit, huh?" She briefly pointed to the earrings he had given her, which she was wearing, and then made a writing motion. "Such skill. You threw it away for Deus?"

A pause, and then -
"...there's an underwater observation pod?"
Clearly Chance's duty rounds had been less than exciting if he hadn't ever been to that part of the facilities. He rolled his head sideways, stretching out his neck a little as he flashed Claude a lazy smile.
"He was the one who woke me up when I first got to Deus," he replied, idly scratching his arm where several bandages were wrapped around - clearly Chance had been to visit a certain tattoo artist again. "Lovely bloke, downright chipper," he added, adopting a faux - and rather terrible - English accent.
An amused laugh escaped him. No forks and screw Jack it was. Chance reached out and dug his fingers into the side of the cake, prying out a piece for himself and bringing it to his mouth. It paused there for a moment, however, as Claude spoke again, and the beginnings of a smirk tugged at the corners of his lips.
"I figured I'd give it a shot for once in my life," he said mildly. "Glad to know you liked my little gift. I thought yours was pretty on point too."
Chance lifted his free hand, wiggling his right index finger, where the constellation ring sat. The other one she had gotten him, the wrapped arrow, was around his left pinky. He took a bite of the cake and contemplated for a moment before swallowing.
"Not really. I wasn't really professionally trained or anything," he said. "I just did it as a side thing. I worked in a bookstore before I came here."
Chance reached for another piece of cake. "What about you, oh captain my captain?"

"Yep. It can be either good or bad. Either you do it by yourself, which is fine, or you are assigned a partner, and that's left up to--" Claude paused as she realized the next word that was going to come out of her mouth, and stared at the man across from her for a moment before she finished it. "--chance." That seemed to amuse her. "Regardless of who you get stuck with...the sights are interesting." That was interesting to know, that Jack woke him up...and she'd have to agree with the faux British accent about him being a lovely bloke. She chuckled softly, amused. Jack was one of the more favorable ones, Claude thought, thinking about the people she'd met so far. Also, saying she liked his gift was an understatement, and she was incredibly pleased to see him wearing the rings she had gotten him. "You're on your way to becoming decked out." Claude commented, lifting her hands to waggled her heavily ringed fingers at him before she reached into the box to pull off another chunk of cake. She listened to him speak, and was impressed. He drew that well without going to school? Shame. She could only imagine how refined that raw talent would be if he was disciplined. "A book store." Claude echoed flatly, staring at him for a moment, maybe a bit surprised by this. "I half expected you to be an astronomer or an astronaut." If his love of stars and constellations was anything to go by...like that one tattoo she'd seen when he undressed that one day. Lovely. Claude was silent for a moment after Chance asked his question. It struck her that she was engaging in talk that was, slowly, becoming more in depth about herself, and finding herself asking the same in return. She took a moment to ponder that. She never really cared to bother before Deus...or for anyone aside from Lex for that matter. Sure, she'd charmed more guys than she could shake a stick at but it'd been easy, and she never had to dig below the surface. What was it that made others want to...reach out? "I was at an ivy league school...and then I pissed it all away to come here." kuuropii U ninja'd a fast tag on me gfjwkfkwleflkw ilu for it : D <3 eeeeeeee

He couldn't resist the rolling of his eyes at the pun, but there was a twitch of his mouth that suggested he was trying hard not to laugh. Chance ate another piece of the cake, licking a few crumbs from his fingers and giving Claude an amused look.
"You'll have to show me sometime," he said. "I'd rather go stare at the underwater stuff for ages than clean out poop from the animal cages."
Which was what he'd done during his last duty shift.
Chance was the same with his clothing and jewelry as he was about his preferences; he liked what he liked, regardless of what it was. Whether it was considered "girlish" to be wearing the rings and earrings he currently wore, he could have cared less. They were just things, after all, and things he enjoyed wearing.
A laugh escaped his throat. "I wish," he said, running a hand through his mess of curls. "I'm not sure I'd be the best astronaut, though; not really a huge fan of closed spaces. But astronomer would have been fun, I think. I was never really into school that much, though."
Chance leaned back comfortably against his wall, plucking a piece of cake from his fingers. "Seriously?" he said, brows raising in surprise as he regarded Claude. "I mean...the whole Ivy League thing doesn't surprise me, you're intelligent enough, but...why'd you come here?"

"You got it." Claude replied, in regards to showing him the underwater observation pod. She did have to snicker softly though, that the poor guy had to clean mini-pet s**t. Hopefully she could avoid that duty for as long as possible... "Ah. Yeah, cross off astronaut then..." She nodded her head. She got that everyone wasn't cut out for school. Claude wiped her fingers on her pants, pausing from anymore cake. She leaned and rested her elbow on her leg, and in turn rested her head in her hand, still looking at Chance. "To look for my brother." She replied. "He up and disappeared one day without a word, and after a few years I had to know where he went." She paused for a moment. "What brought you here?"

Chance gave a thoughtful hum. "Must be nice, having a sibling," he said mildly, without a trace of bitterness or sarcasm. "Someone you're actually related to, I mean." He gave a laugh, shaking his head. "I guess you could technically count the boys at the home my 'brothers,' but I'm not so sure how correct that would be, all things considered."
Chance reached a hand up to his head, idly tugging at a few of the black curls. He gave Claude a slight smile.
"Curiosity," he said lightly. "And I thought why the hell not? I wasn't doing much with my life anyway, so why not do what I can with what's right in front of me? Why squander a perfect opportunity to do something else?"
