Christmas, generally speaking, ranked as one of Alistair's favorite holidays. Not because of the gifts, but because there was no better excuse to get family together and have a nice evening of togetherness. There was a big family dinner planned for Christmas Day, but Christmas Eve was shaping up to be just as nice, because his mother and sister had dropped by his and Lance's apartment to visit. It had been unexpected, but had meant for a very much animated and delightful dinner.
It was over dessert that Sorcha leaned forward and said, "so, Lance, does your family have any special traditions on Christmas Eve?"

Family gatherings were always a bit awkward for Lance, and Christmas was probably the most awkward. There were a number of reasons that caused it to be so, but Lance didn't like to dwell on them much. So the fact he could be relaxed with someone else's family was a bit of a miracle. However, when Sorcha asked the question Lance blinked for a moment, almost as if he was confused before shrugging lightly, trying not to disturb the teen that had currently and somehow worked her way onto Lance's shoulders while precariously balancing her desert on his head. "I don't think we really had any traditions persay with my parents." There were a lot of things that didn't exist with his parents. "Though the Kent's had a few. For whatever reason, a popular one was watching Christmas movies till there was only one person left who hadn't bailed."
"They always liked doing odd sorts of traditions, though they did do a few of the regular ones... Going to see the lights, Christmas Caroling. That sort of thing." It was usually a competition between Jaysen and Kyle to see who could get out of them first. "Though one time they exchanged a present the day before or at midnight."

It was comforting, to Alistair, how easily his mother and sister had taken to Lance. Sure, his father was stubborn, but his father had always been a stubborn man, and he was sure Lance would eventually win him over. Which was for the best, because even though the proposal had been a little informal, he was pretty sure they both considered themselves engaged.
The brunet settled himself on the couch next to Lance, carefully avoiding disturbing Blair's rather precarious seat.
"Aren't you glad I didn't drag you caroling?" He teased lightly.
"You wouldn't tolerate the cold," Sorcha replied, and her son nodded rather agreeably. "You know," she said, "we usually wait until the morning, but I think I like the idea of exchanging one gift between us tonight."
"That does sound like a pretty great idea," Blair agreed cheerily.
If Alistair were thinking about it, he might have noticed that it was a little too cheery, but then, it was Christmas Eve, and Blair wasn't exactly a grouchy person.

"Immensely.." Lance chuckled. "I like the holidays and all.. But I admit, I get tired of all the carols kind of quick. I don't mind the instrumental versions though. I kind of prefer them actually." The blonde said sheepishly. He chuckled quietly at Sorcha's words. "No he wouldn't... We went out the other night for dinner, and when he came home he ended up walking around here in two or three of my shirts afterwards... Complaining about how it was still so cold in here." "You know, I kinda like the sound of that. Though that mean's you'll have to climb off my shoulders Blair." He said smoothly, poking at the crossed ankles in front of him. The girl whined, looking none to thrilled about losing her perch. "Oh come on now. Don't whine at me, you're getting something out of this too you know." He chuckled, which had the girl almost instantly clamoring off of him, almost taking a spill off the back of the couch in the process. As it was, Lance was highly suspicious that Blair had grabbed a fist full of her brothers hair to keep from taking said spill.

"It was cold," Alistair grumbled, as his mother laughed.
"Oh, that sounds like him," she said, and she grinned over at Lance. "I'm sure it was his idea to go out, too." Alistair groaned, staring up at the ceiling as if he were incredibly put upon by this entire process.
"Alright, then, it'll be nice to open a few gifts with the two of you here - Blair!" His sister had indeed used Ali's hair as leverage, and the brunet reached to catch her before she yanked too much of it out. "I take that back, it won't be nice at all." Blair stuck her tongue out, let go of her brother's hair, and slid off the back of the couch in a significantly more dignified fashion.
"I thought the two of you were finally past the hair-pulling phase," Sorcha said, and it came out so utterly deadpan it was impossible to tell if she was serious or not.

"Oh it was. I told him several times that it was cold, and would be getting more so as the night went on. But nope, totally wanted to go out anyway." He chuckled, leaning over, despite the added limbs from Blair, to kiss Alistair's cheek as he groaned. "Breathe." He murmured under his breathe as he stood up. "Alright. I'll be right back then." Lance blinked at Sorcha, then glanced at Ali and laughed awkwardly before standing up. No Sorcha, unfortunately, Alistair was all but far from the hair pulling phase.

Sorcha nodded. "Of course you did, but you know Alistair, stubborn as anything. He gets it from...well, both his parents, I suppose," she said.
"That's true enough," Ali admitted. He was definitely stubborn - or set in his desires, and not easily dissuaded, he would argue, were he in the mood to.
"Do you want help getting presents, Lance?" Blair asked, looking throughly delighted by the prospect.
Meanwhile, Alistair caught his boyfriend's embarrassed glance and grinned slightly. It definitely wasn't what his mother meant, but he was pretty sure he knew what hair-pulling made the blond think of.

"Yeah, don't take this the wrong way, but I'm really glad he gets his social graces from you and not uh... his father." Stubbornness however, was a totally different story. However when Blair spoke up, he stared at her confused for a moment before finally answering. "Uh. You know what, yeah. Totally could use your help." The blonde tried his damnedest to ignore his boyfriends grin as he ushered the young girl out of the room. Noir Songbird DONT MIND ME. JUST KEEP TYPING THE WRONG NAME WHEN I DO THIS

Sorcha laughed and waved Lance off, leaning back comfortably in her chair. She and Alistair sat for a few minutes, but finally she glanced over at her son.
"You should go check on them," she suggested in a tone that indicated it was not, per se, a suggestion. Alistair nodded and stood up.
"Alright, I'll go see what's up," he said, and he left the long room to go find the spare bedroom, decorated now for Christmas. "Lance, Blair? Need any help?" He asked.
He tried to ignore the way Blair giggled, far too loudly. Probably she had some silly inappropriate gift, that was like her.

Flustered was an understatement. Flustered was so beyond anything right now. So much for those nerves of steel. "Shut up!" He hissed, more like squeaked as Blair continued to giggle, even more so when her brother showed up. The blonde frantically tried to clap his hand over her mouth, which only resulted in the small girl licking the palm of his hand. EwBlair just cackled her evil, teenage girl laugh and darted off, leaving Lance to stand in the middle of the room looking like he'd just been forced to kick a puppy. It was then that Lance learned a valuable lesson. Little sisters were evil. ...Oh wait. He knew that already. Alistair shuffled closer and Lance squeaked and jumped as he fidgeted. When his boyfriend asked what was wrong Lance only whined. The blonde trudged forward and dropped his head on Alistair's shoulder. ...Was he getting taller? Maybe he was just sulking more then he realized. Alistair laughed however, and hugged him. But Lance knew him well enough that he'd start asking questions. Now or never blondie. With a sigh Lance fidgeted again, standing up. He stared at Ali for a long moment, brushing the brunettes hair out of his face as he did so. How many times had he practiced this flawlessly in his head? How many times had he gone over this with Blair and Sorcha, who were now craning around the wall to watch them. Blair was snickering quietly like a maniac. Jerk. "I give you my heart. I promise to be your lover, companion and friend. Your ally in conflict. Your greatest fan and your toughest adversary. Your comrade in adventure, your accomplice in mischief. Your consolation in disappointment, your encouragement in success. I will walk with you, hand in hand. Wherever our journey leas us. Living, learning, loving. Together. Until the end of time. I promise this to you." They'd said it before... The night Alistair and he woke up with those visions... those dreams, those nightmares. They had said it in those dreams and nightmares. And now he was saying it again. "I love you, more then anything. We've only known each other for two or three years but I feel as if I've grown up with you. As if you were always there. You've changed my life in those few years, more then anyone else has. I don't even think I can properly function without you anymore." It was probably true. ...Definitely true, who was he kidding. "You mean more to me then anyone can understand. You've accepted me for who I am, despite all my flaws or short comings and I freaking love you for that. Sometimes I think you know me better then I do." Also very true. So now he wanted to let Alistair know that he was returning the favor. Permanently. "I love you. I love your good and bad days. I love your flaws and your insecurities. I love your virtues and your strengths. I love your everything and I want to stand by you through anything. I want to be there with you for whatever comes our way. The good and the bad. For everything. I want to be with you no matter what." The blonde pulled out a box and got down on one knee. "Will you marry me?"

Alistair was at that point well aware something was up. Lance was nervous, Blair was far too giggly, and a glance over his shoulder confirmed that yes, his mother was indeed standing in the doorway, smiling the smile she only wore when she was very, very self-satisfied.
And then Lance actually launched into a full-on beautiful romantic speech - the type of thing Alistair himself would say, some distant part of his mind noted, flowery and passionate and enough to set Ali's heart racing. The words were familiar, at first, and then not exactly so, but still - Lance spoke from the heart, and he knew it. As if Lance ever spoke from anywhere else.
Tears pricked at the corners of his eyes, but he couldn't wipe the smile off his own face, even when they actually started to fall - tears of joy, because this was real and it was happening and as secure as he was in their relationship, after that evening of desperate whispered vows, Alistair had considered that plenty - all the promise he needed that he would spend the rest of his life with Lance.
But here it was, somethin he had never expected - a full on proposal, in front of his mother and sister. And he was rendered speechless, for perhaps the first time since he learned to talk. Lest Lance take his silence as a no, he nodded, vigorously, and then once he got his breath together, he actually responded verbally.
"Yes, Lance, God yes - as if I would ever say anything else," he said. Not quite so much compared to such a beautiful speech, but he could hear Sorcha and Blair applauding anyway.
And he still couldn't stop the tears of joy.
