Vodyanoi was a few days’ out of Oba -- happy, overjoyed even, but also tired, penniless and hungry. He didn’t remember much of Matori, and if there were any edible fruits or plants around he didn’t know how to identify them. He didn’t have anyone to ask, either; he knew these people as little as he knew his land, and if he had any family here he doubted they would recognize each other now.

He had no choice, then, but to walk on and hope for the best. Maybe he would find some sort of job… but all he knew how to do was serve Oban masters and balance trays. Oh well.

It was about this time that a smell drifted up around him. At first it was that of a fire, but then came the bolder scent of seasonings and the oily sizzle of fish. Immediately his stomach turned hungrily, and Vodyanoi veered off his course to see what it was. He moved in relative silence (he was, after all, snooping about what was likely to be someone elses’ property), but the noisy bracelets and anklets would have given his passage away to an attentive listener.

The trees parted to reveal a cozy-looking house. Vodyanoi’s eyes shot immediately to the window -- or rather the windowsill, where a tray of folded tree-leaf envelopes sat cooling in the breeze. Each leaf looked like it had been grilled on the fire, and bulged with the promise of some delicious stuffing inside. He licked his lips, and crept closer.

Someone was moving about deeper inside the house, but he didn’t see them now. And perhaps it was his personality, or maybe it was just the fact that he had grown up in a household where things were never freely given… but he did not even think to ask the homeowner for a favor. He was hungry, and what if the answer was no? Then the tray would be moved out of his reach, and he’d have to go on with a grumbling stomach. No, best just to take what he could get away with and go. No one would see him, anyway, and if he chanced upon the chef in some friendlier circumstances… well, neither of them would know it.

With a quick sweep of his arm, he swept the leaf-bundles into his bag and crept away from the window.

He had meant to make a quick getaway, but after taking a few steps into the cover of trees he decided that the temptation of carrying food around was too much to bear. Vodyanoi pulled one of the envelopes out right there, and unfolded the leaf to find a perfectly cooked (and very delicious) piece of fish. He ate it and let the leaf fall onto the ground, then moved on.

This process he repeated several times, unknowingly leaving a trail of grilled leaves in his path. The trail would lead to the beach, where (now full, and quite content), the water earthling settled down under a tall tree and leaned back in satisfaction. If that was what Matori food tasted like, he never wanted to leave!

Onora felt fabulous. She had just cleaned her home and made it look presentable, finding her family's belongings in the back rooms. Her eyes went wide when she found her mother's kitchen tools and she decided to do the only thing she loved. She looked around to what she had and decided to make her famous fish.

After slaving on the hot fire, Onora wrapped each fish in a delicate leave, to keep it warm, but set it on the windowsill to cool enough to be eaten. Her stomach growled but before she could eat, she needed to clean her cooking area back to the way it was.

She began humming a song her parents used to sing, becoming more and more relaxed. As she turned around, ready for the fish, her eyes went wide. There were no leaves. There were no fish. Onora's eyes glared and her face turned a bright red before she yelled and rushed outside. She never thought a thief would take her food for the day. She would have to go back to the market for more, and her lumpy curves did NOT want to do that.

A little brown leaf caught her attention and her eyes traveled, seeing another down the line. "I caught you, thief!" She said to herself before grabbing the wooden spoon near her. She traveled down and noticed she was heading to the beach. She heard the waves crashing as her toes buried into the sand.

Hands on her hip, Onora scanned the beach line to see a character under a tree, with the leaves meeting up to him. She stormed to the man and glared. "You! I know it was you who took my food! Didn't your mother teach you better?!" She said as she shook the spoon up and down.

The rhythm of the ocean soon lulled him to sleep, his hands folded in his lap and his head resting on the tree-trunk behind him. The sand was warm, and the sun was even warmer, and if no one came to disturb him he was quite sure he could sleep away the whole day…

“You!” A loud voice exploded above him, startling him awake. He scrambled to his feet, for a second fearing his Oban master, come to scold him for falling asleep on the job. But it was no Oban. It was another water earthling -- a large, curvy girl with flying braids and a… a spoon?

Yes, a spoon. A big wooden spoon. And she was waving it about, shouting something at him about taking her food. Who did she think she was? Never one to back down from a shouting match (even though he knew her accusation was true, as attested by the warm, tasty fish sitting in his belly) Vodyanoi stood his ground and put his hands on his hips, giving her a cross look.

“And just what are you accusing me of?! Who are you to go around telling strangers what they did and didn’t do, huh? If I had a mother, I’m sure she would have taught me better than that.”

The spoon rested on Onora's hip as she glared at the man. Her face turned a red shade as he began sassing back to her. "Oh I'm not accusing anything! My leaves led me to you, and I can smell my food on your breath!" She said in anger. Who did this man think he was, just being able to eat others meals. "And I guess she didn't. You thief! She was raging on the inside, her stomach growling at the man too.

She huffed and looked him dead in the eyes. "I don't care who you think you are, but the people in my area DON'T steal my food. Now I want either some kind of payment, or you could work your new DEBT off. She hated being mean to her own race, but that did not mean people could waltz all over her. NO SIR! Her tummy gave a wicked noise again and her cheeks slightly turned a shade of pink, embarrassed that it happened but too pissed to care.

They must have looked somewhat comical, standing on the sand with their hands on their hips, hollering in loud voices even though the beach was quiet and no one else was around. But it was hard to find it funny when a stranger was yelling at you, and Vodyanoi felt himself getting more and more defensive by the moment.

He had been yelled at before, of course -- by his Oban masters. And all he could do then was hang his head and nod, for fear of taking any punishment. This, though, this was different. Perhaps he was just as guilty of stealing the food as he had been guilty of pilfering little treasures from his masters’ bedrooms, but he was a free man now and he didn’t have to hand his head and accept it. He had a right to speak! And, well, conveniently ignore the evidence she had just presented against him.

“Work it off? Oh, so that’s what this is about, is it! You just want to lure someone into doing the work that you’re too lazy to do yourself. Why, you probably wish you were an Oban lord, so you can just sit around and eat all day. What will you have me do? Bring you your snacks on a silver platter?”

He raised his hands to mime an imaginary tray, extending it towards the girl in mockery. His bracelets chimed as he did so, tumbling down towards his elbows.

Onora's mouth gaped open for a second before she spat venomous words. Do not refer me as one of those monsters. And what? Just because a fat girl wants you to pay for stealing her food, you think it's for some prissy stuff like that? If I wanted to have slaves or be one, I would not be talking to you. She argued. What was with this guy! He knows he's in the wrong and still, he doesn't even apologize! Her thoughts roared in her mind.

Onora noticed the bracelets jingle and smiled wickedly. With a quick swoop, she snatched one in her fingers and slid it off his wrist. Well then, I guess since you took something from me, I'll just take something of yours. She said as she twirled it in her fingers. She felt bad acting this childish but something about this man, just made her lose all manners.

this is just the best. 8D

“Oh hey now!” He lifted his hands again, this time in a mock-defensive gesture with his palms facing her and held out infront of his chest. “You think I’m saying all this because you’re fat? Oh no girl, it’s nothing like that. Being fat doesn’t stop anyone from being a decent person, you know. But you, you act like an Oban, going on all about your things and what you want and what everyone else is supposed to do for you.”

He was gesturing with his arms again, bracelets ringing. “That’s what they’re like, if you don’t know. Just because they have things, they don’t care about anybody else. And --”

Just then the girl’s hands darted out, quick and nimble. Before Vodyanoi could react she had plucked one of his bracelets off his wrist. His favorite one, at that, with the little golden orbs that shimmered and shook like a little wave.

“Hey! That’s mine! I need that! And it’s worth much more than your food, you know!”

Oops. Well, that was sort of admitting that he had taken the food to begin with. Vodyanoi might have blushed a little at that, his blue cheeks turning a slightly darker shade.

Every word this man said irked Onora more and more. Now he was calling her indecent. She wanted to scream at him that he was describing himself, but she held onto the bracelet that she claimed and gave a smirk. Well I needed my food. An- HEY! You just admitted it! She said catching his mistake. She shook her head. How do you know my food wasn't worth the price of this really nice bracelet. I put a lot of effort into them. She said with a huff, her face turning a purple tone from the frustration.

She stashed the bracelet in between her breast so he wouldn't reach for them. I just want you to accept that you were wrong and you need to pay me back in some way! She yelled as her hands found a place on her hip once again, spoon clenched in one. Onora was not going to back down to this guy. Not at all.

catfight! catfight!

This girl was so... aggravating! Well… so what if he had taken the food. He was hungry! And it was delicious! But now she was yelling at him, taking his things and practically gloating at him. And who was the one laying out all the threats? She was!

“Well you give that back now!” He huffed, taking a step toward her and placing his own hands on his hips, matching her confident pose. “Hand it over, I’m not gonna talk about owing you nothing until you give me my bracelet back.”

But the look on her face made it quite clear that she had no such plans. Fine. Fine!

“So that’s how you want it? Then have it your way!”

He closed the space between them in two more graceful steps, and without hesitation reached over -- down her shirt and all -- to reclaim his trinket.

Onora was thinking really hard to herself, weither she should give him the bracelet back. It was a pretty selfish thing to do. She didn't know his story, and she was going to give the extra food to the hungry anyways, so was it really a problem that he ate it?

Her face on the outside though, while she was thinking all those thoughts, was a stern look so she didn't seem like she was going to give in. The thoughts came to an abrupt halt as she felt and saw his hand go inbetween her breast and grabbed the item back by force. 'OOOH HELL NO!' Her mind screamed as she lifted her hand --that didn't have the spoon -- and smack his cheek hard.

What kind of animal are you! She screamed as she cover her chest that was just violated. I was going to give it back! She continued, her face turning red from embarressment and unshed tears beginning to form. Her inner self wanted no more of this guys attitude and was chanting for her to kick his butt, but she was already so offened that she wanted to just go home.

Vodyanoi is gonna feel like an a**, that's what. 8D

He managed to get his bracelet, plucking it deftly way from the girl’s chest. She didn’t seem at all pleased by this (well, yeah) and went red in the face, shouting and screaming again. At first Vodyanoi simply rolled his eyes, flicking it back onto his wrist and preparing to make a deft escape (he couldn’t really sneak off, but maybe he could run faster), but then...

Well, then she yelled “I was going to give it back”, and he was pretty sure he could see the glimmer of wet tears welling up in her eyes, and suddenly he felt like a little bit of a jerk.

Vodyanoi had taken her food, after all. He didn’t think that justified her yelling at him and accusing him of all sorts of things, but… well, now he had gone and made her cry. He hesitated a while, scratching sheepishly at the back of his neck. She didn’t deserve that, even if she was kind of loud and annoying. She made good food!

“Ok, ok, don’t be like that.” He finally groaned, taking the bracelet off his wrist. It wasn’t really that special, it just seemed special when other people were grabbing at it. He had plenty of them anyhow, and they were all stolen at some point. “You can keep it.”
PostPosted: Thu Feb 19, 2015 7:06 am

Onora wiped the tears with the back of her hand as she saw him offer the said bracelet she took. She hated when her emotions caused stupid tears but she accepted it and slipped it on to her wrist. Well, thank you. And... She said, fighting inside to apologize or not. I'm sorry I smacked ya. Kinda over reacted. She mumbled slightly.

She looked at the bracelet that was now her's and it gleamed with a rainbow of colors and a small smile appeared on her lips. This is a very nice trinket. She said as she toyed with it on her wrist. Her eyes darted up before she continued. Maybe.... If ya won't be mean anymore, you can help me make more. Food, I mean. I have to get some of it to the neighbors. She said, hoping they could hold off a little bit longer. I help feed the little ones until we get most jobs back.

MissBelikov
tasty tasty friendship.
this rp always makes me hungry for fish. o m o

Vodyanoi didn’t make much of a fuss about her apology, just shrugging sheepishly and shaking his head, as if to say that it wasn’t needed (which was probably true). Besides, it was a far better feeling to see the girl smile. She was kind of pretty when she wasn’t angry and yelling. And the bracelet looked nice on her wrist, with all the shiny little drops shaking and shimmering about.

And now that they were no longer threatening each other, he didn’t hesitate when she offered to let him help. Besides, when she explained that the food had been for her neighbours, he got to feeling kind of awful about the whole thing… and this seemed like an easy enough way to make up for his mistake, without having to… you know, actually apologize.

Because apparently, he wasn’t as good at admitting his mistakes as the girl was.

“Ok, I’ll help.” He nodded instead. “I’m no chef, but I know how to help in the kitchen. I used to do all sorts of prep work -- peeling, chopping, cleaning, that sort of thing. But I’ve never helped make Matori food. Just Oban stuff, you know.”
PostPosted: Fri Mar 13, 2015 7:51 pm

Onora gave a smile, and waved her spoon playfully. "Well it's a good thing I know exactly what to make then." She said before turning to the direction of her home. We gotta hurry though or else the people will get really hungry. She said as she guided them back to the hut she called her house.

When they got there, Onora left the door open for her new pal to enter and started taking out the ingredients for her father's gumbo concoction. I need you to peel these and skin this fish. If you don't mind. I'm going to get the rest of it together. She said as she placed some veggies and a fat fish on the table.

i could go for LOBSTER 8D

He followed her back to the house, feeling quite relieved to have left the whole… yelling and waving thing thing behind them. If anything, he was sort of excited to cook some Matori food; he had eaten plenty already, when he managed to chance upon generous strangers (or an open opportunity), and it was delicious.

Plus, he already knew this girl’s cooking was quite possibly better than most, despite her age.

He made quick work of the vegetables, rather enjoying the task now that he wasn’t under the pressure of the head Oban chef at his old master’s household. The fish, though… that presented a bit more of a challenge. Obans did not eat as much fish as the people of Matori did, and Vodyanoi had never been tasked with skinning any before.

“Um… what am I supposed to do with this?” He frowned, poking it in the belly a bit with his knife. “It’s got… scales and everything.”
