User Image Lyubov wasn't mean spirited. In fact, most would say she was the kindest they've ever met! With the Queen having asked her to go out -carefully- into the rogue lands and find pelts? Well, Lyu wasn't exactly ready or willing to kill anything as of... ever. She was fined tuned onto the emotions of others, and imagining the fear, the pain, the suffering of a last breath at her paws was almost unbearable as a thought alone. She couldn't manage to do anything violent without feeling regret, but killing? That was a whole other step.

The solution had taken her only a few seconds to notice. She simply needed to find things already killed... Already dead. Lyu didn't know where dead things, stayed dead really. So currently she had her head under a bush, seeing if she couldn't find something at the roots of whatever was there...

Found:
1: Small, torn and barely useable. Worth 1 point
3: Small, torn and barely useable. Worth 1 point.

User Image Filibert and his avian familiar, Cyneburg, had already gone out to probe the snowy lands for pelts. They had found a nice little haul together, but Fili knew that a few pelts weren't going to do. They needed a lot of pelts, and it seemed with Cyne's eyes and Fili's claws, they could help add to the growing pile,

Cyne was flying up ahead, looking for anything that might be laying in the snow, and Fili limped along behind. He spotted a pale cheetah with her head under a bush and, with a snort, moved over to her.

"Did you misplace your dinner?" he asked, arching a brow at the female. She looked familiar and rather out of place...perhaps one of a high rank, then. Being a Scholar, he wasn't scraping the bottom of the barrel himself, but he certainly wasn't up in the rafters, either.

[1 - A fair quality jackal pelt. Worth 2 points.
2 - A fair quality jackal pelt. Worth 2 points.
3 - A fair quality jackal pelt. Worth 2 points.

Lyu heard a voice, and the thought that it was a lion that she been specifically told to avoid had found her caused her to jump. A yelp was let loose as she hit the top of her head into the branch covered section of the bush, but this seemed not to bother her as she finally escaped and shook herself free.

She was a little surprised to see a cheetah standing there. "Oh, ah ha, no, no!" She assured him with a small laugh. "I'm looking for dead animals, since I imagine they won't be needing their pelts anymore!" She told him, carefully looking at the male while trying to determine if she knew him.

He looked familiar, but Lyubov couldn't quite put her paw on it. She figured she could a least introduce herself to him. "My name is Lyubov, I am a lady-in-waiting for her majesty." Even if her job entailed taste testing for poison in food she didn't mind. Seeing others happy made Lyubov happy, and that was she needed in life. Was to be happy.

The reaction his words got made Fili's brow raise even more. She was a rather skittish cheetah, it would seem. Or perhaps he just really caught her off guard. When she quickly stammered her reply, he relaxed his expression. She was on the same quest as him, he figured. She did seem too dainty to hunt, and when she gave him her name and title he understood why.

"Filiberg," he offered in return. "Scholar. And this is-"

"Cyneburg," the avian said as she swooped back around, landing on Filibert's back. She walked up to peer around his neck at Lyubov, narrowing her purple eyes as if sizing her up. She was very protective of her companion and would always stare other animals down to see just how much of a threat they were. This female didn't seem to be threatening at all.

"She's good," Cyne muttered to Fili before taking off again. "I found a nice haul up ahead," she added, dipping one wing to swoop in a large circle. "A family of jackals frozen to death."

"The poor dears..." Lyu couldn't help but to feel sad over their deaths. It made it easier for others to live of course, but it was sad regardless to Lyubov.

"It's nice to meet both of you!" She added after she had noticed that she had failed to say so already. "Would you mind if I followed you two? I mean, I won't steal any of the pelts you find or anything, goodness no." She shook her head. Lyu would never dream of stealing from anyone.

"I'm just not good.. At finding dead creatures. You two seem to know what you're doing more than me at least!"

The poor dears? Fili snorted very softly at the idea of feeling badly for animals that were too dumb to get out of the snowy weather. It wasn't as if there had been an avalanche or storm as of late, they must have just not dug a burrow and decided to sleep out in the cold. That was never a good idea.

"You can follow us," Cyne chirped from above, circling the two cheetahs while she waited for them to follow. "Fili doesn't do much finding either, unless he's tripping over buried hyenas. He does the skinning, though," she said before turning to fly slowly off in the direction of the pelts.

Fili shook his head and set off after his bird, moving slow as always, a slight limp to his step. When he was around others he tried to hide the injury and its lasting effects, not wanting to come off as weak. He was so used to walking to favor the injured leg, though, that it was hard to get rid of it completely. That and it hurt.

"I've no concern if you take some of our pelts," he said as they walked along. "We've already found quite a few. Perhaps there will be some small jackals there that you can practice your skinning on so you get better at it."

"Oh, thank you, I promise I won't get in the way!" Lyu cheered happily. She was glad these two were being nice to her at least, it was a pleasant feeling. Not that she had really met anyone truly terrible and nasty before, but Lyubov had been in run-ins with more than one unhappy leopard or cheetah before.

She often found herself fine tuned to the emotions of others, which might have been why she was so emotional herself. Lyu could pour her being into sympathizing with anyone over whatever troubled them and could sense the difficulty some might share even when they were oblivious to it. The very thought of skinning a creature was repulsive. She walked alongside Fili joyfully until that moment when she nearly gagged.

"I- I can't say I've ever skinned something before!" She said nervously, fearful that he might want her to do exactly that. "I let the merchants handle that business, I'm afraid I'm a little weak stomached for that."

"Just ahead!" Cyne called below, swooping ahead to land among the dead jackals. There were a few other small critters as well, but she knew the jackals were what Fili was really after. Thankfully she was full from a prior meal so the dead critters didn't appeal to her as she knew they would to Fili.

"You've never skinned something before," Fili repeated as he walked along slowly, having spotted where Cyne had landed. "Do you eat meat?" he questioned, completely serious. "Surely you aren't given skinned and boned food."

Cyne overheard the question and cackled softly, fluttering her wings. "A cheetah that doesn't eat meat? She just has a tender soul, Fili, something you wouldn't know anything about.'

"Oh hush," he muttered as they reached the pile of frozen jackals. "It's the order of things. We all die at some point," he added, just a bit bitterly.

"Like I said, I'm rather weak stomached." Lyu said somewhat ashamed. "The last time I tried to skin my own food I ended up fainting at the sight of blood." That had been a long time ago, when the avalanche had hit. Lyubov had no courage to venture down to the plains where she had no doubts the other, mean pride lived. So she had ended up being stranded in the snow, and was forced to catch her own food as a means of survival.

To her luck, during that situation she had found a hare that had been buried alive during the avalanche, and died shortly after. Lyu had to go about skinning it for the meat, but when blood had spurted out after her first bite? She was out cold for the next good hour or so.

When they reached the pelts Lyu noticed the hint of bitterness in Fili's tone. She failed to comment on it if only because she didn't want to make him angry or sad at whatever caused him to be bitter...

"Oh!" She exclaimed while nearing the frozen family, and noticing whatever remained of something that was their last meal. This... thing, probably a mouse, had been torn to shreds, it's pelt was pre-skinned as they had devoured it's juicy insides and the small amount of fur left over was barely usable. Still, Lyubov picked it up.

Fili let a little snort escape as Lyu confirmed she fainted at the sight of blood. It was no wonder she was so delicate. He wondered if she had ever needed to survive on her own and, if she had, how she had done. Still, he wasn't one to judge. There were those out there that were like her and then there were some that were like him.

"Oh?" Cyne repeated, hopping forward to look at what the female had found. She tried not to laugh at her find, but instead picked it up in her beak and flew over to Lyu, landing on her shoulders and placing the scrap of fur on her back, just as she did for Fili.

"So you can still talk without worrying about ruining it," she offered, flying back to the jackals. "Just make sure it doesn't slide off."

Fili remained by the dead jackals. As grumpy as he was, there was a bit of concern buried within him, and he didn't feel like putting Lyu through any more trouble than she already had been. He picked up one of the bodies by its neck and tossed the whole thing over his back. He could bring them back to his den and skin them later, away from the sensitive cheetah.

"Ah, thank you!" Lyu cheerfully said to Cyne. Her find might have not been much, but it was useful, she was certain! She wasn't sure what was useful about it exactly but she held confidence that others would be able to find something to do with the small pelt.

She didn't really want to think about the fact that it wasn't impressive. Lyu focused instead on the fact that she had found anything at all! It made her happy to know her searching efforts weren't entirely in vain.

"You must feel very lucky." She told Fili and watched as he tossed the jackal bodies onto his back. "I mean, to be able to find so many good pelts! We could have gotten here hours later and others might have already taken them." She liked to think that was why she had such difficulty finding dead things. Because others had already checked there, picked whatever was left up and headed back to the pride to drop it off.

Examining the area one last time Lyu managed to somehow get two more horribly disfigured pieces out of fur. One had blood on it and while placing it on her back Lyubov struggled not to gag. She wanted to be more useful though, and was glad she had found two more pieces of fur at all.

She then turned to Fili and Cyne and asked as joyfully as she could still muster. "Shall we head home?"

"I've only found a few personally," Fili said as he settled the last of the jackals on his back. "Cyne has done most of the work. She can spot them much faster than I can, as well as cover more ground." Ever since he had hurt his leg his speed had been reduced to that of a newborn cub at best, which was infuriating for a cheetah. He was used to racing across the planes, and now he could barely trot without being in severe pain.

"Yeah, but you've found the best ones," the bird pointed out as she perched on one of the jackals. "He's so modest," she said, hiding a snicker behind a wing. It earned her a roll of Fili's eyes as he turned to head back to the pride, deciding that they'd done enough here.

"Maybe you could find someone else with a bird, or even just ask some of the rogue ones for help. I bet if you offered them the meat afterwards they'd be more than happy to help," she offered. "Sometimes it's easier to spot them from above."

"Yes, well, in any event, we'll be off now," Fili said gruffly, wishing Cyne would stop talking. "Good luck on your search. Might want to do something about that whole passing out at the sight of blood thing.' He limped away in the direction of his den so he could skin the animals, ready to rest.
