It was the morning after she had chosen her clan, and her ears still rang with the congratulations of the tribe. Red was all for praise for her accomplishments, but this was a little over the top for the wild girl, and she needed a break from it all. She snuck out of the village, crouching low in the snow that was no longer as cold and wet as she had once thought it was, and headed North, towards the miniature chasm.
She wanted to test out her new powers where she could have some fun doing so, and the most fun one could have while testing oneself was in a fight. She hoped the Baowi were still there so she could get into a proper fight – they were, after all, the best opponents. Not only were they powerful beasts, but they didn't have to be killed to be defeated and that suited Red fine: she wasn't after the kill, she just wanted to trounce them... and then come back again and again to fight the same opponent. Baowi were tricky that way – they could learn how to fight you – and that was the challenge Red wanted.
And maybe it would become something more, something tame, and then she'd have a pet Baowi. How great would that be?!
She jumped into the small gorge, step by step, before landing on the soft, snowy ground. It was pristine, not a single track besides her own indentations as she crunched through it, heading towards the cave the Baowi had made their lair. It was quiet, too quiet, and as she came upon the cave, she could see that it was empty. Its only occupants were the bones of former prey and the bodies of the immature Baowi she had killed, aligned against the wall as if placed there.
Red was disappointed. She had been hoping for a fight, but it appeared that the baowi had left for other places. She turned around to see if she could track them down, and came face to face with an adult Baowi.
“Whoa...” she gasped. How had it snuck up to her like that?! It growled, and then – with a swipe of it's paw, knocked her over easily. Her head bumped against the ground and senselessness overtook her.
The Baowi huffed, it's warning delivered, and then looked to the bodies of the juveniles. With one final crooning note, it said goodbye, and left for their new lair...
