Low hanging clouds shaded a tiny clearing, far off the beaten path, and notably empty save for a stallion, rigid and still, at its middle. The silence that gripped the area was palpable, as if any other creatures had taken the hint that hung heavy and awkward in the air and disappeared. He had been waiting here for a while, regardless of the way his lips curled in a distaste so obvious it was laughable. Despite all claims to the contrary, he still hadn't completely separated himself from his past, from the one he called "father" with so much spite and sarcasm that he might as well have been spitting "b*****d" instead.

Wraith didn't want to be here, wasn't sure why he was here. Hell, he couldn't even remember how he had learned his father was looking for him or if he'd been told why, all he knew was that something had pulled him here no matter the way his stomach churned. Apocalypse never claimed to love or even want his son, the younger had been told on many occasions he was free to do whatever he pleased as long as he was out of the way, but there was always a thin, red thread that bound them together. That same feeling tugged him here now to wait. To see. What could his father possibly want?

It was then a rustling caught his ears and they swiveled even before his head turned. There was no chance it was anything or anyone other than who he'd been waiting for, his gut assured him of that. And he was right, quite unfortunately, when the lithe, deceptively bubblegum pink form of his father came slipping like a snake from the bushes. His lips pulled back over his teeth.

Though he may have been a little slow in making his presence known, Apocalypse had been watching for some time now, hidden away behind tree and vine. Even as he stepped into the clearing, their meeting spot, and regarded his son with a quick head-to-hoof as if this was the first time they'd laid eyes on each other in months, he had gathered more than enough information from time and body language alone. He was a good actor, though, and his son none too bright, he was positive Wraith was likewise none the wiser.

"Hello," he greeted, voice steady and normal as if there were no bad blood between them. "It's been some time." Not long enough it seemed by the look on his child's face. Not that he cared, he never cared, not for anyone's agenda but his own. Feelings, he would say, if he had those. How he wanted to chastise his son for so easily showing weakness on his face, as deep as in his eyes, but he didn't. He was here on business and had no time for babying. "I'm sure you just want me to cut to the chase, hm?"

"As if you even had to ask." Wraith was in no mood for mincing words or pleasantries. The normally jovial air he held was still bogged down by too many emotions to count, the most significant of which was probably evident: hatred. "Get on with it. What could you possibly want now after all this time?" I was done with you, he wanted to say, but he didn't. The words only formed as a sticky discomfort at the back of his throat.

A moment of undue silence fell between them then, the son looking over his father's form and wondering how even now he could look so young and unassuming. If someone were to look on them in turn, Wraith found it sickening to think that he would likely be picked out and labeled the bad egg first based on appearances alone. It only upset him more to realize that, realistically, they were both pretty awful. His parents had made him this way, after all. He had been raised without regard for the lives of others and sad to say was practiced at causing mischief and harm when he was unable to control his impulses.

"Well?"

The elder swung his body, sending his braid around to the other side. What a flippant child, he thought, but no matter. To the task at hand. "I am getting to it," he assured, eyes narrowing to consider for one moment longer if this was an idea worth his time. Sincerely, he had nothing to lose. Whether his son went along with it or not, Apocalypse would have whatever he pleased. "I want you to join me agin, like old times." There was a deep and knowing emphasis on "old times," a connotation they both understood the reason for.

"I'm planning a big one this time, one that I could use your special talents for. It is your choice, as it always was, but I do hope you'll at least consider. You could have anything you wanted." The manipulator would never say he needed his son for anything, only that he wanted, only that it would be advantageous for both of them. And yet there was always something in the way he leaned his head ever so slightly to the side, undeniable in its expectance, that said he was sure there was no reason for his son to deny him.

How could he? Such things had been hardwired into his upbringing.

So that had been it. Predictable, he wondered how he could have mulled on it being anything but this. Apocalypse needn't say the word itself and Wraith knew what he meant by the "old times" that crawled alluringly from his deceptive mouth. "A raid," he muttered, not to his father or even himself, as it was an answer they both already knew. "On who this time? The humans? Other horses?" There was a sick, joking tone in his voice now. Accusatory, though pointing the finger at this particular stallion would never have done much good.

"I ended my part in your games long ago, in case you've forgotten. It seems you have." He knew he hadn't. "What makes you think you can so easily draw me back in now? Didn't I tell you good enough when I left? I'd rather rot in a ditch than cooperate with you." Even as he bit out the harsh words his voice betrayed him and wavered slightly. The conviction simply wasn't there as it should have been. Clenching his teeth in sudden silence, he stared under furrowed brows at the man who had made his childhood as hellish as his mind remained even today. Why this, why now? This act was so tiresome, but a fear squeezed his innards as he recognized the sign that now stood in flashing lights brighter than stars before him. It was possible he would never escape.

"Are you sure?" Barely any question lingered in his voice. All it took was the way his son's conviction wavered in his own voice, hell, all it really took was his body language, and Apocalypse knew. Wraith wasn't sure, he'd never been sure, not even when he'd left. His father knew and it showed in the way he smiled, eerily unfazed by the outburst, and shook his head. "That's fine. Just fine. If you change your mind, I'm certain you'll have no difficult time finding me again. I'll be around."

Smiling. Still smiling. It dug deeply into Wraith's personal faith in himself, dredging up even more lingering doubts. He couldn't stand here any longer. No, he couldn't stay, or he worried he'd bend. "Don't wait up," he spat, fiercer than intended, though he prayed the slip would aid him anyway. "You won't see me again." With that, he was already turning away, stalking out of the clearing and hoping he looked strong even though his head and shoulders drooped. Even as he went, disappearing beyond the tree line, it was as if he could feel his father's eyes boring into his back.
