Zippeite knew this was not exactly a noble reaction or demeanor that was very appropriate, but he didn't care too much. He had no delusions of going down in the history books at all, much less for his grace and poise through emotionally rough and confusing situations. Which is why reacting to Hver vouching for Lydia coming along resulted in an awkward trek to the library with the Negaverse captain occasionally moaning like a dying whale and keeping his hood pulled over his face.

He also made an effort to walk ahead of the girls as much as he possibly could, but that could be chalked up to urgency.

It wasn't that he didn't want Lydia to come, so much as his head told him this was confusing and therefore a bad idea. Emotionally, he seemed to be less anxious, or had managed to need that anxiety into manifesting childish annoyance. He didn't verbally object to Lydia's presence, though. Knowing someone who knew him was going to be there in case his brains got fried took a lot of weight off his shoulders.

It just felt like it would be stupid to let anyone know that, so childish groaning and grunting and hiding under his hood is unfortunately what they got.

He picked up his pace and ran up the library steps, though, knocking on the door and looking around frantically for the Royal Knight who had promised he could be found in this area if Zippeite ever needed a certain favor.

Anthony Darrow was inside the library, in his office. It was close enough to the door to hear the knocking, though he knew that whoever was out there was probably not here for a late night book. Still, he had to go and check, and he did so carefully these days. He was still very careful about his identity, even after all this time, and was not about to get complacent when he knew he told many people to seek Camelot at the library.

So he moved to the edge of the front desk, not moving out into the glass doorways of the large doorway. He had a mirror hanging in the corner of the entrance, angled to show him the doorway so he could keep an eye on it from the front desk.

He saw a strange visitor, and some people behind, but he was not powered up yet and could not tell who they were, besides Zippeite at the front door. That was enough for him, though, and he moved to slip away and head to the stairwell, climbing all the way up before he powered up on the roof and leaned over the railing, looking down at the Nega. Now he could feel the other auras as well. He hopped off the roof with a familiar motion, rather casual for a man plummeting down a few stories. He landed heavily, armor clanging, but had no issues.

"Good evening," he said pleasantly, but with a small amount of caution to his tone.

The walk to the library had been awkward, odd, and a little tense. For all that she'd vouched for Lyddie's presence on this trip -- which she'd mainly done because she thought it'd be good for nervous Zippeite to have her along on such a rushed decision -- it was already putting her on edge. In her mind's eye, she kept seeing Zippeite on the ground, bleeding from a stab-wound like Bischofite's; it kept making her cast wary glances over at the mystery senshi at her side.

Quenton hadn't needed to be in his senshi form to do harm. They hadn't even known he had one.

Still, she had Lyddie's henshin pen. That meant, whatever happened, Hvergelmir had some power over the situation.

It was a relief when they arrived at the library without incident. It was even more of a relief to see Camelot drop down from the roof -- there was the immediate, elated feeling of an adult is here! Now everything will be fine! And this one was, in some was, someone she considered her adult. Camelot had always been kind to her, taken care of her when she'd been in need. Seeing him instantly made her feel a thousand times better about anything.

"Camelot!" she said warmly, stepping forwardly briefly to wrap him up in a hug, heedless of his heavy armor. "We're here to ask a favor. The crystal kind."

"Camelot," Zippeite exhaled. Even though his last meeting with the knight involved being sat on until he calmed down and then was allowed to run away shouting expletives and slurs, he had the same sense of relief as Hvergelmir.

But even better than an adult, Camelot was his grand escape route. The final solution to all the pain. Zippeite might have had a bit of a fictional idea of what purification was. He could get the Chaos purged from his system, and this would erase all of the bad. He could start over, clean slate. He wouldn't feel the weight of what he'd done in his chest anymore. He wouldn't be bound to anyone.

He even expected a glamour, something to prevent him from dealing with the consequences of the good bye note he had left for Gently among his things after crashing with her. He could move on from this ugly chapter in his teens and there would be no consequences.

Right?

He could still feel the delicate starseed in his coat pocket, as if it were the heaviest thing in the world. He wasn't sure why he kept it, but the weight of its presence was his largest motivator now.

"I... You said if I ever changed my mind... Well, I changed my mind..." He swallowed nervously, wondering if he would be quizzed or judged on why. Wondering if he'd be found wanting. "If... I still can..."

This was not, as the term went, Lydia's first rodeo. She had seen purifications before, so that part of this situation was nothing new. Except this time, it was Cass. And she couldn't even revert to her usual role, focus on being there as support, because she wasn't Irene and this wasn't Iris and everything was just really different and really confusing.

In this situation, she was nothing more than an extra. A bystander, if not an innocent one. A liability, if things went terribly wrong, which was a distinct possibility. Cass was afraid of something, and for good reason, considering the types of people who populated the Negaverse's higher ranks. She shuddered, remembering what had happened the last time she tried to help. If things did take a turn for the worse here, even if she somehow managed to get her pen back, there probably wasn't anything she'd be able to do to help.

But if she let Cass go off into the night, that was no guarantee that he would be okay. The same threats would be out there, trying to stop him from reaching his goal by whatever means necessary. Even if she couldn't help him, the least she could do was show her support for his decision.

More than that- Lydia had to know what happened. No matter the result, it would be better than wondering for the rest of her life.

Or so she hoped, as she curtsied to the older knight. At least, she assumed he was a knight, due to his attire, but in her current form it was impossible to know for sure. Did he know a princess they would be meeting, or did knights have their own way of doing things? Clearly, there were still mysteries of purification that she had yet to unravel.

Remaining silent, as befit her current role, she flashed Cass a thumbs up and a big forced smile. Her other hand was in her pocket, where her henshin pen had been, twisted into a knot from all of the times she tried to cross her fingers at once.

Camelot looked at the Negaverse soldier in surprise, remembering him all too well. The last time they met had been pretty intense, and Camelot was sure the young nega would only remember the negatives from that encounter, and not Camelot's offers of peace and understanding. It was surprising, then, to see him here now.

And with an unfamiliar face and one that was not so unfamiliar at all.

"Hver!" Camelot said, returning the hug since he was a warm and very affectionate sort of guy, and hugs had become a few and far between treat in an otherwise violent and aloof life. Outside of his family, anyway, he was usually too busy dealing with serious war stuff to take a small moment to give or get a hug. He wondered why he was thinking about something as silly as that, but he supposed he was just tired.

"Crystal?"

He cast a glance to the unfamiliar person with them, then at Zippeite. It took the Negas explanation to make it perfectly clear what they were after, and he smiled gently, nodding his head.

"Of course you can. It's your decision, and if this is what you want, I am at your service to help." He bowed a bit, glancing around. There was no one on the street, but it was probably a good idea to go somewhere that cut down the chance of random encounters. "Do you want to go inside the library for this? The door on the roof is open."

Zippeite watched the interaction between Hvergelmir and Camelot and felt a little it of bitterness creep up. It was easy to feel like an outsider looking in on a secret clique he wasn't really part of, although he was trying.

Sort of, when Camelot agreed just like that and asked him where he wanted it all to go down, he felt his heart catch in his throat. Oh, this was really happening. Okay.

Zippeite froze and stared at the man as if his face had fallen off. His posture seemed to seize up as if his spirit animal in this moment was a nervous and borderline vicious chihuahua. "I... I uh..."

His wide eyes looked to just about everyone else in a frantic and silent plea to answer because he forgot how to speak.

"Ye--" It wasn't quite a yes, because his voice cracked into an embarrassing octave and then a gurgle.

Sensing the situation start to rattle a little, Hvergelmir stepped in just a little to help Zippeite along. "That's probably a good idea," she agreed, peering up at the roof ledge from which Camelot had jumped down. "Someone might come looking for him soon if we don't hurry."

She looked belatedly back at the civilian in their group, something occuring to her. "If you can give Miss Lyddie a hand, that is?"

To Zippeite, who most needed reassurances in her opinion, she stepped in close to lay a hand on his shoulder. "You already made the decision," she said with confidence. "The rest is just letting go. I promise, this is the easy part. And we'll be here the whole time, no matter what." Stepping back, trying to play it off like every decision was something small and simple -- to remind him that some of them were -- she said, "Come on, let's go inside and get warm for a few minutes, anyway," and offered a smile.

"Ah, yes," he looked at the civilian, offering her a sheepish smile. "I hope you do not mind being carried, miss. I uh... I swear, nothing indecorous will occur. It's just easier for us to get up to the roof, ah... well, the quick way."

The powered way.

He was not sure what had prompted Zippeite to come, or why he had brought such an interesting team, but it was not in Camelot to ask too many questions when there were more important things in front of him. Taking care of the Nega and helping him to purify was, of course, first and foremost. Maybe he would get an explanation for it all later, but right now, he had what he needed. It was enough just to see the young man there, considering their last encounter.

He offered his arm to the civilian, though he was clearly going to carry her up to the roof with them.

"Once we're all inside, we'll be able to talk." He looked at Zippeite and offered him a warm, patient smile. He knew how terrifying and strange all this had to be for the Nega, who had seemed so consumed by Chaos before. Camelot wanted the other to know he was in a safe place.

The attention on Lydia's lack of powered abilities forcibly drew Zippeite's attention back to something he had been doing his best to ignore. Lydia knew things. She had something weird on hand that she'd given to Hvergelmir and they both seemed to know more than him.

Between being bitter and confused and wanting to bolt, it was taking all of his energy to stay rooted to the ground. Camelot helped. Things, at least, felt safe here. Although safe was relative and usually a lie.

The four of them making it inside didn't do much for his twisting stomach and tightening chest. "Okay... How does it work?" He asked, pacing the library after they'd entered. "There's no chest grabbing or... right?"

Once they were inside, Camelot looked at Zippeite and nodded his head, knowing that the younger man was nervous, and probably afraid that something terrible was going to happen. While purification could be unpleasant, even painful, the effects did not last, and he hoped that whatever Knight Zippiete became would please him, and he would be confident in his decision to change sides.

The Royal Knight motioned for the other two to stand back, moving to stand in front of Zippieite. He stood taller than he normally did, back straight, shoulders set in a proud and regal way befitting his title, though not a look that often came over the humble and sometimes goofy Camelot. This was one of the most serious things he did in his life, though, and he treated it with the respect it deserved, both the practice and the recipient.

He reached his hand to his side, to an empty hilt that hung at his belt. It was an item he found in Camelot, his Wonder, and it helped him summon and connect to the Dragon he now called friend, and aid. But it also became home to something unseen, until he called to it. His hand seemed to fall around the hilt of a sword, though at first it was just mimicking the motion until he pulled his arm in an arch to withdraw the blade. A shimmering sword made entirely of crystal was revealed with the motion, resting in his hand as it would ever only be.

"Kneel, Zippeite," he said, his voice a rumbling, authoritative calm. He lifted the blade and stepped forward, but had no intention of swinging the precious sword at anyone. Instead, he held it out and touched the end of the sword to one of Zippeite's shoulder. "It is my honor to welcome you to the White Moon, and to drive out the Chaos in your starseed. To restore to you your Wonder, and bring you into the ranks of the Knights. Serve well your new role, and live, too, in honor."

He moved the sword over Zippeite's head and touched it to the Negaverse Captain's other shoulder, and the simple ceremony was completed. The process was begun, and he took a step back to give Zippeite room to respond as the energy of the White Moon burned through the Chaos that had enveloped his heart, and burned away what was once darkness, leaving only light.
PostPosted: Sun Dec 14, 2014 2:59 pm

To say it was an unpleasant process would have been an understatement. Zippeite was nervous, but he knelt as instructed and tried not to twitch when the sword touched his shoulder.

The warmth was welcome at first, and then it burned. He cried out and tried not to falter in his resolve at the pain, but half a decade of Chaos was not an easy affliction to drive away. He had been nearly a child when the Negaverse recruited him.

But when he stumbled up to his feet, he was neither a child nor Chaos' recruit any longer.

Helicon, Knight of Mercury rose to his full height and stared in awe at his gloves, and then inspected the rest of his wardrobe with fascination. With wide, golden eyes he looked at Camelot, and then to Hvergelmir and Lydia as he stepped in a small circle, and then back to his gloves, turning his hands over and inspecting the lights and lightweight spaceage material that made a unique armored bodysuit.

He didn't say anything for a long time, like he was trying to figure something out, and then he finally looked at Lydia with his brow furrowed down. "Did you shrink?"

Oops.

He might not have been a child, but enough of his memories seemed to have vacated to the point he still thought he was the tiny high school freshman who thought the Negaverse fought aliens.

"Who are these people? This is weird. It's late," He stammared, noticing how dark it was. "What's happening? My mom is gonna so mad if I'm home late, oh god..."

The last time Lydia had been carried by a knight, she hadn't cared for the experience. Of course, that knight had been rude and obnoxious, and this knight seemed to be a gentleman of honor. That didn't mean she liked being whisked away up to the roof, but she knew better than to voice her objections aloud. The last thing she needed was to be left behind at the last minute.

Once inside, she found herself standing in the rear, falling into her usual role: support. Only this time it was moral support, rather than anything she could physically do to aid anyone. Usually she liked to offer those who sought purification a few words of encouragement, but this time she couldn't think of anything to say. This wasn't a stranger who thought better of what they were doing. This was Cass. What could she say that wouldn't betray her horror at what he'd been through, or her fear that in just a few moments, he would forget her entirely?

Knights seemed to have their own ways of doing this procedure. As worried as she was, Lydia couldn't help but observe with interest, and a trace of sadness that she couldn't sense the effects in her current form. But the crystal sword was an interesting touch. Apparently crystals were always involved. And blinding amounts of light that made her turn her head away until it faded, revealing someone new. And old. Strange and familiar, all at once.

And confused. But the concern that raised in her was quashed when he spoke again. Even though he didn't say her name, and had no idea what was going on, he seemed to recognize her. The relief she felt from that was such a change from her near-panic from moments before that all she could do at first was stare.

Then she began to cry, sniffling and dabbing her eyes with her sleeve, even though it was unladylike, because she didn't have a handkerchief in her pocket, and her patrol purse was at home. "You look wonderful," she blubbered between sobs. "I am so proud of you!"

There was no such thing as a good day, Hvergelmir supposed. Not in a war.

She had thought, once, that something like this might be a happy occasion. Cause for celebration -- a comrade brought home at last, everything made right again. But, maybe selfishly -- probably selfishly -- she watched what had happened, and saw Zippeite's reaction (no, not Zippeite's, someone else's, someone with a name she didn't know) -- and she felt the profound sorrow of what she'd been warned would happen sinking into her skin.

Everything that's happened to him -- the things he's decided -- he doesn't remember. He doesn't remember any of it.

Did they call such things a mercy, she wondered? Perhaps they were -- if he could go home from this and never have to encounter any of it again. But she rather thought not; youma still roamed the streets, agents of the Negaverse still shadowed the unsuspecting, the city was still not safe. This young boy, freshly made new, would see it all come to pass again -- and all his experience of it, gone. All his scars and their lessons, past and forgotten. Now he was at the bottom of a hill he had to climb again . . . and this time he had enemies whose faces he wouldn't even know.

It was a cruel thing, no matter what anybody said, to rob a person of that. The only mercy in an amputation is that you live.

It made her feel hollow and a little sad, to think that she was a stranger to him now. Hvergelmir had only known Zippeite a short time -- a few brief encounters -- but there was a special place dug out in her heart for the sad, angry young boy who had lived so obviously near-crippled by his own fears, but who had trusted her more than once at great risk. She'd gone with him to the very end -- if this was what you could call an end -- but it seemed she'd be the only one to remember the journey.

They are not mine to keep, she thought to herself -- and something nearly stirred in her memory, some niggling sense of deja vu she couldn't place -- but the feeling was gone again before she could make sense of it. It didn't matter: the end result was the same. He didn't need her friendship anymore.

She'd be happy for him. That was what mattered, after all -- he was free of the Chaos that had been holding him. He was free to have the chance he needed to make his own life. And he had someone by his side who cared about him -- whether or not Hvergelmir and Camelot were odd strangers to him now.

. . . Camelot.

Hvergelmir had only seen one purification attempted before this, but she remembered how well prepared Princess Iris had been for it. She'd known to expect the horrible, exhausting drain of it -- known to expect that she'd lose both her transformation and (Hvergelmir suspected) her consciousness. She didn't know if Camelot knew these things, or if it would be different for him because he was a knight, but he didn't have anyone else with him just now, no one who might know to expect it.

Rather than give Lyddie back her transformation pen, Hvergelmir scurried over to Camelot's side with grave concern, ready to catch him if he slumped unconscious into her arms. "Are you alright?" she asked, worried, trying to brush the hair away from his face to see if he looked pale.

Camelot felt his head getting light and wobbled a bit, opting to sit down without putting much thought into it. It was not exactly a decision, on his part, as much as it was a command by his drained body. The first time he had purified someone it had not hit him as hard, but he would have to ponder that later. Maybe it was just a fluke, or something else, but right now all he could really think about was how tired he was.

It took everything he had left to keep himself powered up.

By the time Hver reached his side he had plopped down in a clatter of armor, sitting on his bottom with his legs out in front of him, though he had at least done his best not to kick any of the gathered witnesses in his hasty flopping. He looked up at her and smiled reassuringly, though he noted silently that her face was completely blurred despite how close she was.

"I'm alright. He's going to need a lot of help. You and your friend are going to need to... uh. Help him."

His eloquence from before was short lived, it seemed, and he was left bumbling over his words as he struggled to find each one in his muddled mind. He found he could hardly hear himself, unsure if he was just talking too softly, which he was, or if it was because his ears were failing him. Everything was beginning to sound like it was in a tunnel, underwater, some miles away, over a loudspeaker.

He would be sleeping on the sofa in his office tonight, if he made it that far. But he did his best to keep his energy and focus together to hold his powered up state, and not pass out in front of the newly purified knight.

"I... I've done what I can, but I will be here to help. I just... need to rest."

Maybe he would call his wife and have her come around to collect him. She would be very mad at him if he just did not come home that night, fearing the worst. Of course, she was probably going to be mad at him for using up all his energy, too.
