The peach haired young lady paced her small dorm room, tapping her manicured finger nails on her bottom lip. A terrible bit of information on Twitter had caused for worry she did not want to deal with. Leaving home was supposed to protect her father from all that had hunted her. But now she was to believe he was still in danger?
Now, not only had she left her father to believe his only daughter had died... he might become prey to Horsemen?
The idea of said creatures had sent shivers down her spine when she first read about them in the Deus library. To think such creatures existed, in droves. To know now that an Apocalypse nearly happened. Who was to say it wasn't already in the works ever still?
Her father. The man who'd raised her from birth. Cared for her. Believed every nightmare and ghost story she'd cried to him about no matter her age. He'd supported her, and given her everything she could ask for. He was the only person in the world she'd ever trusted. Ever truly loved. There was no way she could allow him to come to harm. She was here, suffering in this world of monsters and limited closet space; and it was all for him. He'd sacrificed his time and money for her for 20 years. This was all she could do for him.
She would not let it be in vain. This had been her ultimate sacrifice. A life of pleasures and comfort. A popular YouTube channel, a decked out room of Princesses and pricy asian dolls. Makeup shelves and and walls of video games. A giant TV screen and collections of TV shows and films. Online shopping. A credit card with no limit. Junkfood suppers as much as she asked for.
She gave it all up, when given the chance to keep him safe. And, selfishly, to chase after a delusion of grandeur. A life where she was the main player of an RPG adventure.
But all these powers and responsibilities didn't mean s**t when Dwight gave them all a horrible news flash. Horsemen were scarier and more active than she imagined.
There had to be something she could do. And it seemed like she'd have to do what she really didn't want to do;
Become a great Hunter.
She groaned, flopping onto her bed; long hair cascading around her. She agreed to get her hands dirty when she took on the Hunter life. She'd just hoped there were ways of being a hunter more suited to her... tastes and interests.
She wasn't a techy. Wasn't a fighter. Wasn't particularly sleuthy. No experience and no education beyond a high school diploma. What she wouldn't give to find a job within Deus that involved her staying behind closed doors, pushing buttons and watching screens. Video Gaming was her forte, not science or nursing.
But there was a greater purpose here. She didn't give a s**t about anyone on the island. No one on the planet. No one but herself, and her father.
People sucked. She hated people. Especially peers. They were fakers and exhibitionists and snobs. Hypocrites and bitches. Every one of them believed themselves to be above others, or knew better and just played like they were. They'd pretend they knew everything, pretend that they had something over you. Kiki saw through it quickly.
Kiki Peterson would be the ultimate Princess, haters be damned. She got through High School as a meek little nobody. At home? On the internet? She was a star. And now on Deus, she would simply carry over that stardom. She'd live her online Princess Persona in real time. Why? Because she could. It was a fresh start, and since she had given up everything to be here, she found it was well within her rights and privileges to be exactly what she wanted.
She sat up again, taking up a hair brush to fix her tangled tresses. Thinking of her life back there was putting worry lines into her perfect skin. A nap inside the pods had given her a complexion she'd never have dreamed of. Deus was indeed her fresh start. The mysterious Pizza Boy that recruited her that day still shone brightly in her minds eye. She was just glad she had been dolled up at the time, having just finished filming another video for her vlog. Otherwise, he'd have caught her looking like her grotesque casual self.
The horror.
She huffed and set the brush aside, getting herself ready to be presentable. It was time to do some Deus research. On Horsemen. On hunters. On what she needed to do to protect her father, without him ever knowing. She prayed he was still alive and well, Horsemen or not. She prayed the heart break she'd caused would somehow heal. She hoped that maybe, just maybe, not having her there to worry about and take his money, had been for the best.
She needed to believe that.
