Though weeks had passed since the nightmares had ended, it left a lasting effect on not only Canopus, but the entire city as well. Those that weren't afraid to talk about it told one horror story after the next, and the more she had heard from her classmates, from her allies, the more Canopus hoped that all of the factions, even members of the Negaverse, could all agree that allowing the dark kingdom to win was a terrible thing...

In a way, maybe she was hoping that it would have united under a common cause and take down their common enemy, but then, that would have been too convenient and nice of fate to allow for that. It was disheartening, to know that they had all seen that terrible vision, that horrific future, and yet not everyone could agree or accept its truth, that the Negaverse was evil and wrong for this world.

She had an encounter with a knight that had lashed out at her without hesitation, even when she tried to explain how desperately her Court needed this energy. She had seen a horrible future for her Court, and she was determined not to let that happen, even if it meant to steal the energy from the citizens. Tonight, despite being attacked in the park once already, Canopus found herself in the middle of another hunt, looking for someone isolated and easy to chase down, and her eyes were set on a middle aged woman, waddling down the path and swaying slightly. A homeless woman, perhaps?

It struck her deep as to what she was going to do, but what choice did Canopus have? They needed energy, they needed to get off this planet, before that terrible future happened!

There were a couple bonuses to patrolling in civilian mode that almost made up for not having the ability to sense auras. One of them was not freezing in the increasingly chilly weather. The other thing was the element of surprise, powering up abruptly near someone who had no idea you were there.

...It was entirely childish, but it was also awesome.

"How about not." Kairatos offered, the sound of his voice almost immediately following the rush of power as he took on knight form and started toward the Dark Mirror Senshi.

"It's peaceful night, it would be nice to keep it that way."

He summoned his net to hand, but held it loosely by his side, twitching his wrist just enough to make the horn weights on the ends of the net clack together.

He remembered being allied with the Dark Mirror in that dark future, and they weren't aligned with the the Negaverse now, but they weren't order aligned, and it was impossible to forget that when they were harvesting from the civilian populous.

And then there was Zia's recent issue with the Mirrorspace, which raised a lot of questions about what they were feeding with their stolen energy, and if they knew it.

In the back of her mind, Canopus should have known to suspect everyone being either a senshi or a knight in disguise, and yet it was a thought that always eluded her until it was too late. At first, she thought that the knight had simply appeared out of thin air, that knights have the uncanny ability to teleport like their dark counterparts in the Negaverse, but nothing ever indicated as such. The thought of him hanging among the small crowd in the park came to mind, but Canopus was far too focused on her potential target that she didn't even think to take in faces... she chose not to. It only made her task harder if she looked at their faces and focused on what made them all different and unique.

She was caught completely off guard, something that she wasn't quite used to, and she took one look at his weapon and her target went from the swaying woman and onto the knight in the red and gold bull motif instead. In a way, it was easier for her to handle... at least she wouldn't feel bad about sending out a Mirror Wraith against an armed knight, she told herself, as she let out a rather pathetic battle cry and sent the Wraith forward. "Ah, get away from me!"

The knight wasn't wrong. It was a rather peaceful night, but Canopus wasn't fooled... in Destiny City, there were no such things as peaceful nights. Simply lulls in the oncoming storm, before chaos consumed everything.

"Nice one." Kairatos complimented, though it came with a frown. "You're the one trying to steal someone's life energy, but nah, I'm the bad guy..." He snorted sarcastically. He had no idea if anyone was listening to them fight, but the woman might, and goddamnit, he wasn't planning on being treated like some kind of creeper.

He lashed at the wraith with his net, hoping to destroy it before it could start to drain him instead, wondering how they'd ever managed to work together. Would this have been different if he'd seen Charliko?

"What the hell do you think you're feeding anyway?" He demanded. "Are you just throwing energy and lives down a hole like the General Kings and hoping that maybe tomorrow it'll get you what you want? Back to space right?" He pushed. He wasn't Hvergelmer, and she as darn well attacking him, though unless she laid hands on him, he'd try and stick with destroying the wraith.

"When's the last time you got one foot off this world?"

Did they even have any idea what they were trying to get back to? Their once homes were grave yards.

She never thought of herself to be a very violent person, even with his complete and utter distrust of the Negaverse, but she could not help but feel her blood boiling within her body at what Kairatos was implying. She snapped, her nerves already shot and any attempt to keep calm long since gone now. "I... I wasn't going to steal a lot! Just enough... just enough to..." She wasn't sure exactly how much the Wraith would take, or how much she needed, but she had no intentions of severely harming her! "And I never said YOU were the bad guy, you're not part of the Negaverse!"

She knew nothing of this knight, and he knew nothing of her. She didn't like the idea of using her Mirror Wraith as a distraction and she certainly didn't welcome the idea of letting it die for her, but desperation pushed her to act out, when all logic and reason told her to simply retreat. His questioning didn't help, either, and she curled her hands into fists and ran at him, uncertain if she'd be able to reach him in time to get a blow in or if he'd shatter the Wraith and dodge. He was stronger, more experienced, but Canopus was desperate, confused, and now angry.

"I... I don't know what we're feeding! All I know is that we need enough to get out of here, away from here!" Canopus shouted, the Wraith overwhelmed by the knight's attack and she followed up, or in the very least attempted to. "I don't care how much we need, but we need it! We need to get off this planet, before... before they take over! Isn't that what you want? Us to leave?"

"No!" He half shouted it, teeth clenched, as he raised an arm to try and block her, hold her at arms length to keep her blows at length. "You wanna see what's waiting at people's worlds? You think it'll be better? I'll goddamn take you if It'll change your mind. We can stop that future but only if we stop now, before Chaos makes a wasteland of this place as well! Especially if you saw what they did as well!"

He was tempted to use his magic on her, but if she panicked it would completely destroy the chance of conversation.

Zia would have been furious at him for talking to them, but he didn't think she'd seen them at the camps, using their mirrors to help. Mirrors that had...

Would she be furious if he told her even that much? She was no Ares...he didn't even see a brand mark, though in the chaos he might have missed it.

Part of her was surprised that she had even managed to get this close to him, but it did her little good. Her blows, as pathetic as they may have been, were blocked and the distance was forced between them, which in all honestly was perfectly fine with her. She tried to back away from him but had managed to lose her footing and fell backwards, right onto her rear. It wasn't a graceful fall and completely far from dignified, but at the moment, Canopus was more worried for her life and what the Mars knight was saying than bothering to care how spectacularly she failed...

By this time, the woman that was going to be her victim had wised up and fled the scene, and the Mirror Wraith was no where to be seen. Her attention wasn't on the Wraith, only on Kairatos and the words that he assaulted her with. It was a lot to take in, but also, terribly confusing, and her will to fight was all but drained from her now. Was that an open invitation? Or was he mocking her?

The damnest thing was that she wasn't sure! And she hated that! "Whatever's at their worlds has to be better than what the Negaverse is going to do here," Canopus finally said after she regained her voice, but even then it was soft, meek, likely bringing shame to her entire court but unable to stop herself from blabbering. "How can we stop them? Where do we even begin?"

Perhaps she had no right to ask the knight this, considering her answer was to stalk a woman and steal her energy...

Kairatos took a moment to try and step back, raising his hands in a gesture of offered peace, though the net still hung limp in his grip, wary. Should he dismiss it? Where was the wraith? But then he didn't dare take his eyes off her either...

"There's no life on the worlds I've been to. Not on Mars, Not on Mercury..." He offered. "Just ruins. Plants if you're lucky. And that's on uncorrupted world. Chaos did that. That's the peace it offers."

Warily he dismissed the net, gingerly offering a hand toward her instead.

It was a risk. She was dangerous. All agents of chaos could be lethal in the right circumstances... but everything he knew said it was worth the risks.

"We begin here in Destiny City. We defend our homes and families, human and otherwise, we don't steal from them, not their energy, not their lives, and we try and stop people who do. Give them another way if we can."

Did that sound awful? Hvergelmer always made it sound it easy when she did it, he just felt like he sounded like an idiot, an possibly a condescending one, even if that wasn't what he meant at all.

"I'll show you my wonder if that's what it takes. It's all I can do."

She half feared that he would have struck at her, despite falling back and her less than favorably position, but she was surprised and relieved to see the net dismissed. Instead of a balled fist or a blow, he had extended a hand to her, and it was just as terrifying for her... because she wanted to take it, and she was resisting the urge to do so. Months ago she would have never thought of it, but now, something had to be wrong with her.

She flinched and scooted away from the hand, even when she had lifted her own to her chest, resisting the urge to accept it. She hadn't pushed herself to her feet yet, though if she tried she was certain that she'd simply collapse beneath her own weight, like a colt just introduced to the world, only more pathetic and less adorable. She listened to what he had to say, and she didn't like it. "No life? None at all? No, you mentioned plants, so there's that... but why? You... you haven't given your home to Chaos, so why would it be dead?"

Again, she knew nothing of this knight, though if she had, she might have found some leverage, some advantage to clean to. As it was, she had nothing. No, she had less then nothing, because if there was no life away from Earth, then there was no escape. No hope. Despite what he said and the steel behind his claims, she felt... even worse than before. "But we don't belong here... it's not our homes... at least, that what some of your fellow knights, the Senshi... even the Negaverse agree. We're not wanted here, and how can this be my home when I'm not wanted? Why should I fight for a place filled with people who hate me, just because of what I am?"

She sounded like such a brat, a weak, pathetic little kitten that had realized the world didn't revolve around her, but she couldn't control her emotions, or how they fueled her words. Shame added to her turmoil, however, and she found herself apologizing. "You're right. You're absolutely right... I'm... sorry. I didn't want to hurt her, or anything... I just... I don't know what else to do? I'm sorry..."

His offer sounded so enticing, and she looked at the hand he offered, as though it held the tantalizing allure of Pandora's Box. She felt compelled to take it, even if it could have simply been a trap, and yet, though she may have been a senshi of the Dark Mirror Court, she was still human. Flawed and easily tempted by such adventures. She found herself reaching, and stopped, only to ask. "Why? Why would you take me there? How do I know this isn't a trick? How do you know I'm not trying to trick you?"

"Because chaos brought war and lies, and they destroyed everything in their path. No one has all the answers, only a couple people even have most of their memories from then. But that's what will happen here too, eventually. And we'll just have to trust each other on this one... if you want to go."

It didn't hurt that he hadn't seen a mirror in the place, and he suspected that if there were any, they would be bronze. Would that work for them? Guess he'd find out if he came back to find graphiti on the stables.

"I'm offering because it's the best way I can think of to show you what's in space. "How do any of us not belong here? We were born here. That's usually a pretty good claim to citizenship in most locations."

Canopus could not say anything for awhile, for if she tried, she knew that she would have simply erupted into tears. She wasn't hurt, despite knowing that he could have easily beat her to a pulp, but it was all guilt. Guilt for being so desperate as to even think of stalking and stealing energy from those weaker than herself (if that was even possible), and the idea that she was associated with anything regarding chaos, the same chaos that had supposedly destroyed homeworlds and wonders before striking Earth. It was just so much... almost too much!

"Trust each other?" When she finally did speak, it was surprisingly cold, even to herself, and terribly bitter. It wasn't completely directed at Kairatos but the situation, and she glanced away from that tantalizing hand as she scoffed. "Hard to trust others when they conspire with the Negaverse to try and kill us. Trust won't come easy, if ever... it's stupid to think otherwise."

Oh how things had changed. She once held hope, joy, enjoyed the mysteries that were to come, but now? She wanted to escape, though there was no way to do so, and if a way was found, this knight had dashed that hope splendidly. Then had the nerve to extend a hand to take her off world, to his wonder... maybe he would leave her there to die. 'Better to die there then witness that terrible future ever again!'

"Alright then. Take me..." If her life was a romance novel, those words would have lead into a chapter of sensual prose and would make her cheeks flush, but when spoken in such a distraught tone, it brought no such feelings to her now. To think, she had just told a strong and even handsome man to take her, but there was no joy or lust in her heart. How things had changed!
