When he'd been informed that morning that he'd be working on Death division duties Zeke had been pretty excited, or as excited as he got. It wasn't something he had much experience yet, but it was certainly something he was interested in, given the run down on the division he'd gotten within his first week on the island. Stealth and recon sounded really interesting. What he found waiting for him in the room he'd been directed to show up at that morning did not. It appeared to be a small computer lab consisting of three PCs--though only one seemed to be on--and there was a very large stack of files sitting on the desk beside the lit up monitor. Brows dipping, he let out a small sigh as he crossed the room to sink down into the computer chair, plucking up the top file from the stack. It was a mission report, hand written, and all at once Ezekiel had a good idea as to what he would be doing today. Goody. Things were just going swell lately.

Lawrence, or rather Jan did not mind paperwork duties, he did not mind anything. Tedium was not a problem for him to deal with, and the closest thing he ever experienced to a treat was the enforced company of another person.
The slender blonde man arrived and took in the computer lab with a slightly inclined brow, his partner for the day seemed to already be present.
"Howdy." he said, making his way over to sit next to the other hunter. He recognized him. It appeared to be the man who had pulled Ever back from attacking him at the party. It did not seem to impact his smile though, which remained bright. "Looks exciting." and he was very sarcastic.

The sound of someone else entering the computer lab had Zeke glancing up from the report he was scanning over and the automatic, polite smile he'd hitched into place faulted just a touch as he noticed just who it was he'd been saddled with for the afternoon. His day just kept on getting better. " Howdy," he drawled back, laying the report down, then shifting his glasses from the top of his head to settle on his nose. "Oh yeah, real exciting. How's about we just dive right in, get this fun started." And over with. Wearing a thoughtful frown, he gave the man now seated beside him a closer look than what he'd given at the party. Pale hair, thin, older, though exact age was impossible to tell. He looked harmless enough, but Zeke didn't really have any reason to think America was lying about the whole minipet thing.

Lawr nodded. "Sure, no reason why not. I mean, not that I have a packed schedule or anything. This is all I have going for me this afternoon."
He noticed the scrutiny and raised a slender brow. "What would you like me to do?" he asked patiently.

In all honesty, Zeke didn't have anything else to going for him for the rest of the afternoon either, but that didn't mean he wanted to spend the whole time in a stuffy little computer lab. He couldn't say, yet, how he felt about his given company, but at least he was polite and professional. At the request pale eyes dipped down to the other man's hands, well, hand. "I'm going to wager I probably type quicker, so how about you read, and I'll log." It wasn't exactly a question, since Zeke was not willing to sit there and watch the Death hen peck the keyboard. He got enough of that from Ever.

Lawr was as it happened a speedy typer even with one hand, though in general he preferred traditional writing, he did not complain about having the simpler job though. "No problem pardner." he said, picking up one of the reports and scanning it. "Simple transcription job it appears."
He proceeded to read off the report, detailing a simple recon scouting mission.
"So," he added as he reached for the next one. "Do you have something you prefer to be called?"

"So it would seem," was tossed back for the sake of keeping things friendly, and as Lawr began reading off the information on the page, Zeke began typing. Things carried on that was until the monotony was broken by the other man's question, though the Mist never once paused in typing. Clearly a master of multitasking. "Ezekiel, or Zeke. I don't have a preference either way." The later seemed to be the more popular choice among his peers. "And you?" Since they were being all civil and polite, an exchange of names seemed fair.

Lawr nodded. "That is an old fashioned name." he said. "Where are you from? I am presuming somewhere southern. I'm from Florida."
He offered his own name. "Jan." he said. "Swedish decent." Another form was read out patiently.
"Was it you I saw at that rather unpleasant party?"

"Biblical, even," Zeke offered, finishing up the first form so they could start on another. "Utah, actually, though I did attend college in Florida." He glanced up as Jan introduced himself and explained the uncommon name, and Zeke nodded, attention sliding back towards the computer monitor as the Death began to read off the information on a new report. Jan spoke clearly, and Zeke typed quickly. It was going to make their task a lot less of a headache than the Mist had originally dreaded. At the question of the party there was a slight pause in his typing, but it picked right back up again. "If you mean, was it me that pulled Ever away from you before he could break your nose, then yes."

Lawr smiled again. "Oh he wouldn't have broken my nose." he said. "I am not some fresh out of the pod weakling, though one could be forgiven for thinking that. I was not even slightly concerned at the time. The only thing I can say about it is that it was wholly unprovoked. But of course, people do interesting things when drunk, so there were and are no hard feelings."
He shrugged his shoulders, reading out more of the reports, this one regarding the cleanup of an outpost decimated by some unspecified horror. "A lot of the accusations flying around are pretty tragic, all told."

Zeke shrugged to that, unsure of the validity, and uninterested in debating it regardless. Whether or not Ever would have actually hurt the other man, or vice versa, wasn't something Zeke had been all that keen to explore at the time. Better to just avoid it. As for the attacked being unprovoked, Zeke wasn't so sure. True, Jan hadn't done anything obvious at the time, but He'd also heard what America had shouted to Ever, and he didn't have any reason to believe she'd been lying. Though again, not something he was in a hurry to argue, so he gave as neutral a response as he could. "There is certainly something to be said on drunken judgement calls, but good of you not to hold onto any resentment over the matter." Jan read, Zeke typed, and further conversation seemed to have ceased, at least for a few moments, until the Death spoke up again. "You don't say?" Personally, Zeke tended to avoid gossip. He just didn't care enough to worry over what everyone else was saying or doing unless it directly effected him or one of the very few people he actually cared about.

Lawr could tell when he was getting nowhere with someone, when they'd already closed off any interest they had in the conversation at hand. Zeke seemed all in all to prefer not to speak at all and there was no reason that the pale man saw to pressure him on it. Everything was carefully hedged and detached and not about to be forthcoming with any information of value.
He fall back to reading out the documents, staying this way in conversational silence for some time.
"Twitter gossip." he stated. He had no reason to elaborate further when the other man was so clipped.

For a little while it was quiet, to some degree. Jan still read the forms out loud, and Zeke still typed everything out. There was a certain amount of noise, of course, but the conversation had faded, and that was just fine for Zeke. But it didn't last. He blinked at the comment, head turning just enough to regard Jan with a look, before eyes flicked back to the screen as he saved the latest file and brought up a new, empty one. "Seems like that's all twitter is, for the most part." Though he was obviously not looking to make any friends today, he was at least being polite, mild and good-natured. He had no reason, for the moment, to completely alienate the other man. "Gossip, advice of all flavors, and nonsense."

"It has its uses in that though pardner." the blond man said. "You get a better handle on who is genuine and who is not, and what people's social circles are. Terrible for slander though, especially if people buy what they hear at face value." he sighed and flicked through another document. "Not that I am surprised, people have their ways, they ain't gonna change."
"As long as they ain't about to get negligent on me on the job, I can take or leave it."
Finding his place again, he was quiet for a few long moments before asking. "Ever get homesick? I do, today's just one of those days." He shook his head. "Sorry I'm just, being a downer." He hazarded a smile. "Next one coming up!"

If Zeke cared more about getting to know the people he shared the island with, then he would have agreed with Jan. The man wasn't wrong, Zeke just care. There were those very select few he had actually found a connection with, and the rest were just, well, cannon fodder. Tools. A means to an end. Cold, but true. He made a somewhat noncommittal noise in response, not dismissive, but not exactly inviting either. Though he did glance up at the question. It was an unexpected one, and brows twitched before dipping down slightly. "Not really. Before this I hadn't really been home much for a while anyways, college and all." Holidays, that was when he'd headed back to Utah, but even then, visits and been short and sweet. "Where abouts in Florida did you say you were from?" It was an idle curiosity, but it was something. "I went to school there."
