The subject title is misleading isnt it? I need some opinions and people to answer my questions. ^^;
Im a junior in highschool and I want to start a Pride club, or something similiar, in my school but as far as my knowledge goes there arent any gay associations or oganizations near me that could help me if I got into political, money, or religious trouble.
Most of my friends think its a wonderful idea and would support me, but no one wants to be associated with the idea itself. Everyone's scared of family members who would disown them, fanatics who might try and physically harm us, and the pressure we would get from others and local religious people.
I feel that its really important but I dont know where Im suppose to start this. I have to write a proposal to give to the principal but what do I put in it? How do I fund the club? How do I arrange activities? What about safety and travel?
If anyone can toss out ideas, suggestions, comments, opinions, or blatant opposing yelling and flaming, then thanks..^^;

it is a very hard thing to do, there are too many people that are homophobic, funding never comes easy and these things can endanger people. There are local gay youth groups around where I live but I ever have investigated these things. On the matter of fuding, the best way to fund it is to either begin it at your own home, ask for donations and such, if you call it a gay youth group then it is a risk of exposure, if you call it a normal youth group, then you can bring people to it, the best way to spread it is by word of mouth. but secrecy is also important, there is a fine balance, and it is hard to do, at that, all I can say is good luck :p

Subliminal Message confused my school's gay "club" is called the gay-straight rainbow alliance or something.. it's so secret that they don't tell you how to join.. so i couldn't join. crying The first hint is drag is never the key. Tell them what it will do for all students as a means of education. It's even better if you can get a trustworthy teacher or two to support it. I hope it all works out, Sh'nobes!

la la (XP edition) thats an awesome idea, but maybe you should not have in with'in school, maybe you should go for invite only afterschool thing. Most places probably have a policy where the group has to be endorsed by the admin in order to set aside school campus facilities for their use. My high school would even turn on the alarm system if you didn't make it out fast enough. Hell, falling decorations set the thing off. stare

I have to have approval from the admins at school and stuffles. My friends said they would support me but only silently. Apparently last year someone cut the brakes of a gay student. :: sighs :: I told my mom, but she doesnt seem to care. Said it was my decision and walked off to do the dishes. O.o

O.o Silent support wouldn't really work... You need people that stand up for it and hold the group together. Who's going to protect members, and bring issues to the people who need to know about incidents like the brake cutting? Would your friends speak up when someone they know is or is being harassed by someone? It's all social politics, but it comes down to who has the bigger influence. Organize well, and organize fast, because once word gets out either a) nothing/very little happens, or b) the whole thing explodes. Good luck! 3nodding

O.o Wow, your school has a lot of homophobia. What I would do then, is maybe start a program for civil rights or something. It's a group that tries to stop that kind of stuff from happening. They also keep the students aware of how bad (for lack off better word) hazing and harassment is. They then try to get people to stand up for each other. If someone is getting harassed in the hall and someone tells the bully to stop, then the civil rights group has made an effect. That's what my schools did. I think it worked because there isn't a lot of trouble in the system. What you then do, is wait till high school (where there should also be a civil rights group) to make a gay support group. Because, even though many of the students might know they're gay, they might not be ready to come out until high school. So starting with a civil rights group is the best idea to stop hazing from happening.

Yeah..moms not too vocal about this. o.o She was kinda like, "Well, its your thing. Do whatever." when I first told her and just..went to bed. :: blinks :: Moms not very supportive. >.>;
Victor, a guy from school, got all kinds of emails and stuff sent out over the weekend. He made me vice-president so I would be the person dealing with people face to face. o.o Hes...loud..in his opinions.
