In some ways, it was easier to deal with the little problems, even if there were lots of them. Laney found excuses to deal with anything
but the big problems as often as she could.
Well, there's laundry to be done! Well, I have to go back to my wonder to work on my weaving some more! Well, I have to organize my sock drawer into pairs! Well, I have to figure out how to use the tivo so I can record the new Peter Pan
when it's on! It was a simple enough thing, finding good reasons why she didn't have to address any of the elephants lurking in corners of every room she went into.
In that respect, Avalon's letter was welcome.
It didn't tell her much. In fact, in light of recent events, Hvergelmir wasn't even sure what kind of memories Avalon might've been referring to. A past life, a thousand years ago? Or memories from her time as Avalon before her corruption? Or after it, as a General? Was she having recollections of the future, as the rest of them were?
Did she even know which?
It was a puzzle. But unlike some of the other puzzles, some of the other pressing concerns in her life lately, it was one she had less reason to want to avoid. Avalon had come to her in the park, had been left on Hvergelmir's bench for her to find. That made the Earth page Hvergelmir's responsibility, a little. And it had been Avalon that Hvergelmir had sworn her oath to, half a year ago, now. They were connected, the two of them.
Dear Avalon, she wrote back.
I'll call you on Saturday, around 2:00 pm Eastern? I can use my fancy new communicator ring to make it easier -- it'll be my first try. Or you can just call my cell -- Babylon has the number.
Much love,
Hvergelmir Squire of the Cosmosshibrogane
We can timeskip to the call if that works?
