To say that the recent past and her experience traveling with the army had been great would be an understatement. While the traveling with the army had been pretty amazing and Naevius had gathered a lot of information as well as thrived. With a few actual friends made in the process as well, the traveling hadn't been so bad! It was what happened AFTER they stopped moving. Sure Naevius was sometimes to kind for her own good, and unfortunately, it caused bad things to happen when the made camp in Neued. Sure her friends had reassured her that it wasn't her fault, but the guilt had taken hold in her heart and wasn't letting go so easily.

Upon their release however, she was instructed that she had to go with them and head back to Oba. She sighed, while she wanted to stay in Tendaji and learn more, the recent past made her reconsider. In the end, she decided to go without much fuss. It pleased her greatly when she found out that Sebastien had decided to come back to Oba with her. He could stay of course, or help with the establishment of a new settlement on the boarder, but he had chosen to come back with her.

They had reached a little clearing in the Juaharan forest when it was decided to make camp for the night. Naevius did what they would allow her to, which was basically nothing. It was much different than when she was just with the army itself. In any case, camp was set and her tent had been put nearly in the middle of it. Once she washed the dirt and sweat from her face, she decided to wander camp. There weren't really any guards with her since the war was over now. They had scouts posted around the camp in case anyone got any ideas but for the most part, Nae was free to walk the camp. Finding a fire that someone had lit near the outskirts and had apparently forgotten about or stepped away from, Naevius sat on a stump of a cut down tree that must have been centuries old from how large it was. She idly began to count what rings she could from the firelight as she thought back to everything that had happened to her since coming to Tendaji. It was quite a deal more exciting than anything that had happened to her at home.

It had been a pleasant enough trip for Sebastien himself, but then it'd have to have gone fairly badly to become unpleasant. To a point, he regretted having followed Lady Naevius into captivity. The army had needed a little kicking, but the beasts had killed men and women in getting loose. The Obans had seen a horrible loss long before the battle had ever taken place. There was no sense in lingering on the past, though. His help would not have been enough anyway and he had been sure that the noblewoman was safe. His employer would be pleased with that, at least.

The mood at the camp was a bittersweet mixed bag. Some approved of the possible new future for Oba. Others only felt the sting of loss, real and in the figurative terms of war. Battles always saw loss on both sides, regardless of who retreated.

He was not quite a soldier and a low commoner, but he was tall and large and had at least proven that he could keep his charges alive. Besides, he was a fairly well-trusted member of Naevius' father's employees. For these reasons he had been told to set up his tent on the outskirts, nearby the pack animals, just like back home. The shifted and grunted in the dark. it was a familiar, comforting sound.

What he had not expected was to find company when he returned to his fire. He had only left briefly to get himself a drink and there she was, sitting like she was waiting for him. He approached without worry and stood beside her, offering the tin cup down to her. It was only polite.

"Would you like some?" His expression was softly contented, and in honesty he was happy to see her. She wasn't like the others, and that in and of itself was interesting.

To say in the least, Sebastien was the last person Naevius had expected to approach her. It was a small group, sure, but she hadn't really seen him too much after they were released. What would he think of her little outburst in the tent? Would he think her weak? Selfish? Stupid? The weight of her decisions was heavy on her heart every time she thought about it, and every moment she didn't for that matter. One thing seemed to be true though, Naevius would never be the same. Whether it would make her more cautious about other races, Nae couldn't say, but she definitely didn't feel like the same person.

When Sebastien offered her the tin cup, she noticed he only had one and was probably just trying to be polite. "Oh no, Sebastien. I'm alright." She said with a slight smile as she scooted more towards the edge of the stump and motioned for Sebastien to sit down if he wished. The stump was big enough for two to sit on so she didn't see why not.

Nae seemed caught up in thought for a few moments, her eyes focused on the fire. "What do you make of all this?" She put more weight into common people's opinions than she did nobles most of the time. "What do you think they would have done to us?" She asked more softly. After how some of the Tendajians reacted towards them, and how they had been treated in the Oban camp, Nae was fairly certain they wouldn't have come out of it unscathed.

Sebastien nodded and casually sat himself beside the noblewoman. While she lost herself in the flames he took a swig from his mug and stared into them with her. It had been a bit of an adventure recently, hadn't it? He still mourned the loss of friends and strangers trampled beneath the feet of spooked arwa, but there was nothing to be done for them. They had surrendered, but then he had never been entirely behind the war efforts anyhow. He was just glad it was over and, it seemed, they would be discussing more amicable options. That didn't really sound like their king, but then everything had gotten kind of strange with the broken ego of their people.

His attention turned back to Naevius when she spoke. He would have been fine with just sitting there together for a while, but if she wanted to chat that was alright too. He hadn't had much company since they'd struck camp and hadn't felt entirely comfortable with the others, but Naevius was different.

"Oh, I don't know. Things will be changing, for certain." He took another swig from his cup and sighed. "Who knows, given more time? They didn't do anything at all, though, so we can be grateful for that. I imagine they have as many personalities as we do; there are violent folk and Captains and Naeviuses too. It'd all have depended on how bored the guards got." But the Obans had come looking for them... or for the nobles, at least. Nothing at all had happened, though, so why worry?

"I think we got out of it all much better than we might have," he said, turning to the young woman with meaningful eyes. "and you shouldn't worry about how we got there."

Naevius began to fiddle as Sebastien began to talk, as she had grown accustomed to since their own imprisonment. The knowledge that she had gotten herself and others imprisoned by her own actions had caused a slight change in the young woman, and she didn't seem quite as sure of herself as she had before. Maybe it was because she was a noble that she wasn't used to bad things happening to her? Or perhaps it was one of the first times a noticeably bad thing had happened because of her choices? Whatever it was, it had caused the smallest of changes in her that only someone who knew her or paid any attention to her would be able to pick out.

"I suppose you're right. We didn't have to spend too much time there. I agree that we got out of it much better than we might have. But I have to worry about how we got there. If I'm ever to take over my father's business I'm going to have to learn to think more clearly. My actions were unacceptable." Naevius was vulnerable, the sense of comfort around Sebastien lended itself to it. She was almost as vulnerable, if not as vulnerable, as she had been in the tent when they had been captured. Nae fought internally to sort herself out before someone could see her, but the fiddling hadn't stopped and so she folded her hands and squeezed tightly in an effort to still them.

"I can't say your decision was any different than mine. I just have none of the authority to go through with them. It just comes down to being careful. Not everyone can be trusted in such a high-stakes situation. Next time send your cronie in instead of yourself. Like me." He offered her a somewhat goofy half-grin, "I feel like the whole situation might have gone differently, then... but maybe not in a good way. Our king is considering a diplomatic end to all of this instead of more bloodshed. Whether he would have some to that decision if you and Lady Ichil weren't taken is anyone's guess."

He offered her the mug again, this time after taking part of it. It was a bit alcoholic, perhaps good to calm the noblewoman's nerves.

"Your actions were kind, with pure intentions. Those wanting to escape were acting in defense. Nobody was in the wrong here. It just happened."

Thinking on his words, the young noble stared into the firelight. So he would have done the same, or so he says. She supposed it was one of the things that came with the power her position gave her, that power she had so carelessly used. But what he suggested was something she couldn't see herself doing. Sure she had ordered him to do other things but that was before they all looked dangerous, and she hadn't thought they would attack someone who was bringing them food. The goofy half grin did quite a bit to settle herself again, and when he offered the mug again, she took it. Pausing a moment before she put it to her lips, she smelled the liquid that was inside. There was alcohol in it for sure, but no other smells of anything else. One couldn't be too careful. But, seeing as how it was Sebastien, and he himself had been drinking it she figured it was fine and took a small sip. It had an odd taste, nothing like she had tasted before, but it was comforting in a way.

"You know, to be honest with you, Sebastien. I don't like ordering people around. When I asked you to take food in there, it wasn't an order, I hope you know that. And-and the only reason I asked you in particular is because...well, you work for my father and I trust you." There was a sensible tone to her voice that showed she was being completely honest. "I was quite surprised to hear that the King was considering a diplomatic end....though I don't know that it had anything to do with me or Ichil. But, if it did, I suppose everything worked out for the best then." She took another sip from the mug, a little bigger than her first but she could feel it warming and relaxing the muscles of her body

Sebastien laughed softly and shook his head.

"Pardon my indiscretion, but that was definitely an order. 'Sebastien, go bring those people some food.' I suppose I could have denied you for my own safety's sake and to keep an eye on you, but it was an order. Thank you for your trust." It was true, he had felt no particular option in doing what she asked of him, but then i may have been because he agreed. The treatment of the prisoners was not something he agreed as a whole. Hopefully someone somewhere was going to give that Captain a good talking-to.

"I'm sure you and Lady Ichil being taken were one of the final straws on the capramel's back. The other races had no reason to treat us so kindly and I'm certain your father and the king were rather unwilling to let the idea of your torture slide. I do think it came out for the best. Nobody else has to die in the name of conquering a people who don't want conquering. There's been enough bloodshed."

Naevius smiled softly and ducked her head, scratching the back of her neck as she did so. She handed the mug back to him and felt rather fidgity. She hadn't meant it to be an order. She hadn't meant to put anyone in harms way. She didn't want anyone to have to keep an eye on her. Nae suddenly felt as if so many things were her fault, but, if what Sebastien thought was true, and the capture of her and Ichil is what ended the war and saved other people, then was it worth it.

She found herself looking away from him, unwilling to meet his gaze. What if something like that happened again? What if they were taken by surprise by people who wished them harm? What would he do? If she ordered him to flee would he? "I didn't mean for it to be an order...and....you can deny...I wouldn't take it personally..." What else could she say? He was someone that she saw around the estate and with the beasts, someone who had risked his life for her. He worked for her father, yes...but...he was different.

"I'll keep that in mind, but I feel like your father may disagree," he said with a smile. His voice was still light and teasing slightly, by no means the staunch derision of a put-out body guard, errand boy... whatever he was. "I work for your family, so it's only natural to take orders from you. There's nothing personal about it. But if it makes you feel any better, I was just waiting for an excuse to go in there."

He took the mug back and looked down into it, then at Naevius. No, it seemed like she needed it more than he did. He tried to offer it back.

"Here. Drink. It'll calm your nerves for the night ahead."

"I suppose you're right. That does make me feel better, but I still didn't mean to put anyone in danger." When Sebastien offered the mug back, saying it would calm her nerves for the night ahead. What exactly did that mean? Was something going to happen? She took the cup from him tentatively. "What do you mean 'calm your nerves for the night ahead'? Is something going to happen.?" She asked worriedly, her hands gripped tighter around the cup, tension back in her body once more.

She had to be brave. That's what she told herself when she first came to Tendaji with the Army. She had done well up until Neued when things actually started happening. She needed to be like that again. Naevius tried to remember all the things she had been through lately and told herself that she was brave. A little voice in the back of her head said 'But Sebastien in braver.'

Sebastian chuckled and shook his head. Look at the way she was gripping the cup! He wouldn't have been surprised if it was denting under her whitened knuckles.

"No. Nothing is happening," he finally said, still grinning but speaking with a gentle voice, "You, however, are a tight bundle of nervous energy and could use some alcohol, I think. The worst of it is over, now we just have to deal with ourselves. So drink up. I can always get myself another." Sleep had not been coming easily to him and that had been the intention of the booze, but it seemed that Naevius needed it much more than he did.

Well...if he said nothing is happening then she supposed it was okay. Naevius relaxed just the slightest bit until he spoke again and the tension was back. Her nerves were visible, when did she become so bad at hiding her feelings? She needed to put her 'noble mask' back on but it was difficult around him. He unnerved her in a way, and maybe it was him that made her so nervous. Nae couldn't really say if it was him or just the recent events. "It's just..." She paused, still unable to look at him. Nae knew she was probably saying too much, and figured Sebastien probably didn't even care in the least bit. He had already shown that he was loyal and said he would follow orders from her. So could he just be sitting with her out of loyalty to her family? He probably couldn't wait until she was done blabbing on, at least that was how most men back home were with her, she could always see it on their faces. She didn't see it on his, but that didn't mean it wasn't there. "I shouldn't bother you with my problems..." She said uncertainly, now staring down into the cup at the alcohol Seb was sure would undo the bundle of nervous energy inside her.

"Hey," he said, reached out and touching the top of Naevius' arm. It wasn't her shoulder, which could be seen as condescending, or her forearm, hand or leg which would be far too casual. She was different than other noblewomen, yes, but she was still a woman. He didn't want to frighten her when she was so vulnerable. "If not me, then who? I don't mind offering a friendly ear. Besides, no other women's ever seen me shirtless and bound. We have a special bond." He smirked and shook his head. Gods, he needed some booze. It could wait, though. Naevius seemed to be in need of someone to talk to and he'd have to walk halfway across camp to get to the supply, if there was any left by now.

"I'm sorry, that was inappropriate of me." But rather than look ashamed, he chuckled at himself. He really was more comfortable around her than he perhaps should have been.

At Sebastien's touch, Naevius finally looked at him again. Even through his smirk, he looked genuine. And, with a look of surprise, a small giggle escaped at his bond joke. She looked down again, the smile back on her face. She wondered if he really thought they had a bond. Nae kind of did...though she didn't know if she would ever admit that to anybody. "I might be the only woman who has seen you like that, but you're the only one who has seen me cry." She was reminded of that vulnerability in the tent. Nae looked at him and made eye contact. Her eyes were rather wide as she realized what she had admitted and fully understood exactly what he had said. "I-uh..." She said awkwardly, a blush rising to her face as she took a big sip from the mug.
