IC The Oban army seemed to be a constant threat, always looming in the shadows waiting for an unknown signal to descend upon them all. People felt that it was unsafe to leave their homes and for good reason. One particular evening, a small band of Oban warriors had decided that pillaging and plundering this small village would be excellent sport. They were bored waiting for the higher ups to finally give them the order to attack. Few of them were cruel, others just seeking wealth some down right sadistic. Kelina has found herself in a predicament, faced with a choice that she had to make. Should she confront these Obans? Or sneak away with her family and guarantee their safety first?
Quest Points
|| This takes place prior to the war. || There are about 5-8 Oban warriors, a mixture of male and female. || Kelina has a choice she must make. Make sure her family is safe first, or confront the Obans. || The Oban's are mostly melee warriors wielding large cutlasses. There is one range who happens to be hiding back in the trees. || Ultimately Kelina should escape with her family, wither she faces the Obans or not will not effect a pass or fail.

Kelina watched the sun begin to set as she began cleaning up their little home in Ast. Since Lasarra’s running off with Rayolun, the young couple had just decided to say in her home as it was large enough for the both of them and their two growing kids. It had taken a little bit of getting used to motherhood, but Kelina found a joy in it she didn’t think she would find anywhere else. Both Seze and Kres were a joy, they had their troublesome moments, like trying to get them to eat their vegetables and to leave Aunt Lasarra’s animals and Mommy’s bow alone. Of course, both Kelina’s and Sauron’s sprites were fair game. The two trouble making sprites had a full time job keeping up with the twins but they did so. They had kind of become the kids’ watchers, which their parents were grateful. With the kids finally winding down for the night as dinner had already been eaten, Kelina smiled as she heard her amazing husband telling the kids a story to get them settled in. Her eyes switched between her loving family and the dimming light outside. But it was as Sauron finished his story that she realized how quiet the Juaharan forest was. She remembered this feeling, just as it was at Neued. Her eyes narrowed as she leaned out the window a little to try and see below their tree. It was in doing this, that she thought she smelled smoke. Alarmed, Kelina put a finger to her lips once Sauron looked at her and grabbed her bow as she slipped out the door and onto the roof only to be shocked.
A few trees away, she saw red flames lick up the tree as it tried to engulf it and the house perched among its branches. She gasped and was about to go try to put it out when she saw the glint of steel and began hearing their voices. Kelina crouched down as she moved to another branch, looking more like a feral sailscale than a shifter. It made her begin to think that one of the other races must have sold out the rest of Tendaji and joined the Obans but her thoughts were quickly put to a halt as she saw the bright fabric, dark skins, and the large cutlasses of Obans. There weren’t many…her scouting eyes counted a max of 10, but they were moving around so much she thought she miscounted. Without another thought, Kelina slipped back into the house. But she had not been as sneaky and Sauron not as secretive as she had hoped for both of the kids were standing on their tip toes staring out the window…with Sauron right behind them. “Oh Serin help us.” She prayed to the goddess, the one who had gifted her with her own beautiful blue bow that she still used every day. “Seze, Kres. I need you to listen to me. We’re going to play a game okay? We’re going to play Moracker Hide and Seek. Do you remember how that game goes?” She asked the kids and waited until they both were nodding.
Kelina and Sauron had been afraid of things like this so they had made a plan. Kelina wanted their kids to be able to survive in the forest if they had to leave home, so she started teaching them games to help with this. One of so was called Moracker Hide and Seek. Just like the Morackers, the kids would slip into the forest and try not to get caught. Of course, the careful parents had applied fail safes in case anything went wrong. Sending younglings into the forest to run among the trees wasn’t the greatest idea in the world. They had went out one day and made marks on all the trees in a certain radius and told the kids not to go past one of those trees. They also designed a ‘give up’ measure, whoever wanted the game to end would just make the sound a Moracker’s tail makes to let everyone know they wanted the game to be over and to also give away their position.
Once she was sure the kids were paying attention once more, Kelina continued. “You remember the sound to make to give up?” She asked, once more receiving nods. With a deep breath, she continued, only looking to Sauron a few times to steady herself. They had to do this for the safety of their family. “There are bad men and women below us who are burning down trees. We have to leave home. So you’re not going to give up okay? You’re going to continue through the forest past the marked tress towards Sol. Do you remember what direction that is?” Waiting once more until she got heads nodding before continuing, “You can stop and take breaks of course, and you should stay fairly close to each other but if you hear anybody you have to get moving again okay? Daddy and I will be behind you, and when we think it’s safe, we’ll give up and then you echo okay?” Kelina’s head snapped as she heard voices closer to their home. She gathered up a few supplies for the kids and wrapped them in old scarves of her mother’s before giving one to each of her little family before gathering up a few more important belongings of her sister’s and her mother’s before looking at her little band of troops. She gave each a kiss on the forehead and a hug, holding onto Sauron a bit longer than she should have in all her worry. “Just like we planned.” Kel said softly to her husband before ushering everyone out of the house.

Kelina knew you could plan as much as you wanted but that didn't mean the plan would go correctly. But that’s why there were side plans and back up plans and back up plans to the back up plans. After the kids were born, Kelina and Sauron had feared that things would go wrong and their children grow up slaves to the Oban Empire. But Kelina was not about to have that. She had worked extensively on planning for occasions such as this. They couple and painfully come to the conclusion that Sauron would stick closer to the children as he was more close quarters combat and Kelina was long ranged. It was more logical that way, even if it hurt her heart to be separated. Going in small groups or individuals was less likely for detection and that’s why Kelina had thought of the game. Hopefully, they had played it enough with the kids that they would remember all the steps and how to get to Sol.
As each kid scrambled out the door and began sneaking through the trees Kelina stood guard. She heard animals crying and shifters screaming and the smell of smoke was thick in the air. She pulled part of her cloak up and covered her mouth. Watching Sauron go with longing, Kelina grabbed a few more things and shoved them in a small bag she hardly ever used. But she probably wouldn’t be coming back so she had to take everything she could. Tears started welling up in the shifter’s eyes as she looked over the house she had grown up in, the house she and her sister had lived in together, the house she and her husband lived, the house her kids grew up in and knew it wouldn’t be alright. Time was ticking, and she wasn’t on her own schedule, she was on the obans. “HEY ROCKHEAD, you forgot one over here!” She heard one of the obans, a male, shout. With panic, Kelina realized they were talking about HER house. They didn’t waste long as she felt the air around her heat up and a light come through the cracks in the floor. Kelina gasped and jumped out the window to the neighboring tree. “What was that?!” The same one shouted. A woman with a heavy tone replied, “Probably just some stupid native. Kill it if you want.” That seemed to be all the permission they needed as she heard a few soldiers start to move towards her. With an arrow at the ready, Kelina was about to start protecting her home when she heard another shout, “Over there! I heard something else!” They had heard her family. Family was more important than her home. Putting the arrow back in her quiver, she darted off towards Sol, without so much as a look back at her flame engulfed home.
She had traveled a little further into the forest, yet not far enough to no longer hear the screams of her village or for the smoke to stop burning her throat. Her eyes teared up from both the smoke and the fire that was now destroying her home, but determination kept them from rolling down her cheeks. Her two adorable children and loving husband were in the forest ahead of her, and there were who knew how many obans between them. Her duty was to her family and her family needed her now. With quick steps, she jumped from tree limb to tree limp, always listening for the Moracker slap that may indicate that her family was safe or quite the opposite if it was coming from the kids, that they were in trouble. It troubled Kelina that the forest was so eerily quiet, but she knew the spirits and Serin didn’t want the Obans here. Putting her faith in that, as she had done many moons ago when she found Serin and her bow, she stopped and listened. With closed eyes, the archer heard footsteps, not the soft slap of feet on wood, but the soft thud of feet on dirt. Her children knew better than to take to the ground during hide and seek. The ground was like a mud pit that would suck them in and hold them until they were found. Sauron wouldn’t resort to the ground unless something was wrong. But there were no sounds of fighting near her. Whoever it was, they were on the same path as her family and therefore needed to be stopped.

It didn’t take long for Kelina to track down the trespasser. With soft steps, she brought herself near to the, now she noticed, group in a small clearing, so small it couldn't really be considered a clearing. A slight smirk came over her face as she decided to have a little fun with the group of five to allow her family time to get a good distance between them. They had trespassed and so she was going to let them have the forest. From her position, she shook the tree limb she was on before quickly jumping to the next and running swiftly to the opposite side of the group. She noticed with satisfaction that the group fell for the bait and their heads snapped to the right. Next, she broke off a small limb and let it fall before once more running a quarter of the way around the circle. Her smirk stayed Kelina saw them jerk towards where the branch had fallen. “You are not welcome here, tresspassers.” Kelina called eerily at them, her voice low like she heard from the forest spirits herself. Once more, she ran to the opposite side of the circle. She could tell they were getting a little freaked out as they had not been able to hear that it was an earthling moving about causing the trouble. The Obans started whispering to one another and were in a much tighter group than before. This forest is one to be reckoned with and they shall treat it with respect! She told herself with passion. As soon as she was in her new position, she paused for a moment as they all began growing more comfortable before speaking again. “You do not think the forest knows what you’re doing?” She said in the same manner as before and then moved another quarter around. “You do not think the forest will enact its revenge?” Speak and then move a quarter. “We see all.” Moved another quarter. “Hear all.” Moved another quarter. “Know all.” She moved one final time so that she would be on the right side to continue on. “You should leave while we still let you!” She whispered at them with passion. But the shifter hadn’t been as observant as she had thought; an Oban had actually managed to stick to the trees and appeared just opposite the little clearing. Though they weren’t nearly as sneaky as the earthlings who inhabited the forest, she was still taken by surprise. With an arrow quickly at the ready, she fired it at the half hidden Oban archer in the trees. Kelina could honestly say she didn’t stay long enough to see if the arrow hit its mark or not, nor did she have to. With a satisfying thump and shouts of the obans, Kelina heard the body hit the ground. It was time to go again.

There were no more footsteps along the jungle floor; she noted with satisfaction during one of her few breaks. She had also not seen any signs of shifters among the trees, which she didn’t know if that was a good thing or a bad thing. Kelina could only hope that it meant her family was nearly to Sol or at least safe. As long as Sauron had been able to keep up with their energetic kids all would be fine. She continued on without much delay, jumping from branch to branch with a good amount of agility. Kelina knew she had a lot of ground to make up and wanted to do so quickly. It was tiring, yes, but if she was tired that meant her kids would be exhausted, especially running through the forest at night when they were supposed to be sleeping. Most of her body was beginning to feel the fatigue as well as her mind and soul. She was sad, very sad. Her home was gone and she had only been able to take a few things. She hoped the animals had gotten out okay, but even Lasarra’s animals hadn’t been more important than her family. A few tears started making paths through the thin layer of dust that had clung to her cheeks. What would Lasarra say when she went to go home to get her things? How would she explain what happened? Her vision started getting blurry and she had to force herself to stop or else she would probably have missed a branch and who knows what would have happened. She let herself cry for a few moments, or at least until she felt her spirit rising and she knew the Goddess must be looking on her right now. “This war. This damnable war and these power hungry Obans. I will stop them for you, Serin. For Juahar. For my home. For my family.” A slight breeze ruffled the trees for just a few seconds before it disappeared as quickly as it had come. She was safe; Serin had let her know that. Breaking another smaller branch off the tree, she took a few steps back on the branch before using all her might to slam the branch into the trunk with a THWACK! THWACK! And listened happily as she heard three sets respond ahead of her.
