Zirconia was always pleased as punch to find the mirrors left out by Dark Mirror senshi. The smart thing to do was move them (Although she could never bring herself to smash them) but she often indulged in hoarding and playing with them.

What she had in her hands now was likely genuine garbage, however. It was too small for a full senshi to fit through, although if she powered down to a full feline she could probably strut right through the thing.

She had become distracted as she held it, and fawned over it, sitting on a picnic table as a cat-girl and polishing its tarnished surface with her dress overlay. She was completely enamored in her rescued treasure, and oblivious to her surroundings.

The inability to sleep had made Chariklo quite productive. At least if you considered mindlessly wandering and brooding to be productive. At least, in the park, she didn't run much risk of encountering anything she couldn't handle in her state of nervous exhaustion.

The faint whispers of an odd aura flickered against her senses and she groaned softly. She didn't want to investigate, but a sense of duty insisted that she had to. With a heavy sigh, she followed the energy, trying to figure out why it felt so odd to her.

And after a couple of moments, she had her answer as she stood in the shadows and watched a lilac haired girl with cat ears sitting on a table. Moving slowly, the dark mirror senshi approached, ready to give this strange girl plenty of room. Just in case. Somethign tickled her memory, hadn't someone told her about a lilac furred cat?

Thinking hard, she managed to dredge up part of the memory. Ah, right. Mintaka had been telling her about the cats she knew. Hadn't she said that one of those cats hated dark mirrors? Was it this cat? She didn't want a fight, wasn't up to a fight. But this might be her first chance to talk to a cat who wasn't Creepy Future!Faust.

"Erm. Hi?"

Zirconia hadn't been aware of the Dark Mirror aura until she spoke, and suddenly realization flooded her senses.

She jumped, and defensively held the mirror against her chest, turning intense, yellow eyes on the senshi. It took her a moment to place why this particular Dark Mirror stuck in her memory, but she had an easier time placing her. She was the senshi who was fighting Alfheim, while she spectated from the sidelines and provided commentary before eventually taking humanoid form and pulling the knight through a mirror.

She didn't relax, though, considering what she knew of Chariklo was that she was aggressive.

Her eyes darted to one side and then the other, before giving the senshi in front of her an angled side eye.

"Hi?"

Well... s**t. Now what? For a moment, the tall senshi cursed her exhaustion for muddling her brain. After a moment, she sighed and carefully crossed over to where the cat-girl sat and plonking down on the grass a foot or so away.

"So. How's being every nerdboy's wet dream working out for you?"

As quips went, it was decidedly subpar. But hopefully it would work better as a 'Let's Not Fight, I Am Really ******** Tired'. Glancing up, she saw the small mirror the girl was holding and smiled.

"Pretty mirror," she said, her brain insisting that she recognized this girl. After a few moments of foggy thought, she realized it wasn't just her conversation with Mintaka. She had seen this chick before. And she'd seen her walk through a mirror with an idiot knight in tow.

Welp. This had just gotten awkward.

Yellow eyes that seemed very cat-like, even embedded in a human skull, watched carefully as Chariklo plopped down in the grass. She was still clutching her mirror to her chest with both hands, and sat in fairly tense posture. At least until she made her quip. then her shoulders just sunk.

"Not as well as you'd think," She said in a flat monotone.

She glanced down to her mirror, and then to the senshi, and then when back to clutching it. Even turning her torso away like a child with a toy they were defending. "Thanks."

She seemed content to stare at the senshi in long, uncomfortable silence. But after a few moments passed, she actually spoke on her own accord. And even more progressive, it wasn't actually said in a hostile or tense tone. She even sounded genuinely curious. "You were fighting Alfheim in the alleyway. What's you're name?"

Should have listened to Mintaka, she thought as the silence grew longer and more uncomfortable. Fidgeting a little where she sat, the blonde wondered if she shouldn't just get up and go. But that would take energy she simply didn't have at the moment.

Jumping a tiny bit when the cat girl finally spoke, Chariklo glanced up, eyebrows knitting.

"Oh, was that Captain McUselessPants name? Gangly knight with a big ******** bottle, right? Yeah, that was me. You took him through a mirror though. How? I thought Dark Mirrors were the only ones who knew that trick. Umm, sorry. Name's Chariklo. You?"

Shifting a little, she rested her elbows against her knees and slumped a bit. Well, that was a little comfier.

"Never really talked to one of you cat types before," she murmured a little dozily.

"Yes," She chirped back regarding the knight's identity. The Mauvian straightened her shoulders where she stood and seemed to relax enough to pull her mirror back and go back to playing with it.

"Well that, little senshi," The condescension was unrestrained. "Is not true. Your magic comes from Ares, and Ares comes from the first mirror court. guarded by me. I am Zirconia, Guardian to the Black Moon Court. The original."

She ran a hand around the mirror's surface one last time, and then pushed her hand through it for a demonstration, meeting Chariklo's eyes. "I can do all your tricks because your court stole them from me. I taught your queen everything she knows."

She smiled for her, but it wasn't exactly a friendly smile. The gesture was twisted with bitterness and sadness instead as it made the motion without meeting her eyes. And then she made a flippant little shrug, trying to forget it already. "The knight is inconsequential. He's irritated me enough to regret saving him. Next time, he won't get my help. If hunting him down and finishing what you started still interests you."

The condescention grated at already raw nerves. Snorting a little and giving the catgirl a mildly evil glare, she raised a hand and twirled her finger through the air languidly.

"Well, ******** and good for you. I'd genuflect, but hey. Little tired here thanks to nightmares and dire what-ifs."

She chose to ignore the slights against Ares. What good would reacting do, anyway? Especially with Ares gone and probably never coming back. It hurt to admit that this might be the case, but there it was. She had to admit though, the hand through the tiny mirror made a great party trick.

"No one is inconsequential," she heard herself muttering. "Anyone and anything can tip the scales one way or another. Why should I bother hunting down someone who I might need in the future?"

Granted, she didn't have any future-y memories of that particular Knight floating around her brain, but the point stood.

The responding eye roll was so dramatic it took the Mauvian's head in full rolling motion with it.

"Then why are you here? To rub your existence in my face some more? Or remind me that the Dark Mirror Court is so used to their stolen magic they are now baffled at the presence of anyone else who uses it? Hasn't your court done enough to me? I am old. I am tired. I am done with usurpers and false queens and yet another failed court to try to rise up and be something."

She set her shoulders back and went back to fiddling with the mirror rather than look directly at Chariklo.

"Then why did you bother trying to kill him in the first place? Killing people takes a lot of effort, I would think one wouldn't set out to attempt it without a goal in mind."

"First off, lady," Chariklo muttered, "I did not know who or what you were until just now. I don't know a lot of the history between the different powers, okay? So if you could take your nose out of the air for a few and stop acting like I, personally, am an affront to God and Nature, I'd 'ppreciate it."

With difficulty, she resisted the crack about Oil of Olay that danced on the tip of her tongue. Zirconia sure didn't look old. Maybe she was like Dorian Gray and had a little portrait somewhere that aged for her. As for that Knight...

Chariklo shifted a little, trying to sort out her own thoughts, wondering if she would be able to adequately explain herself.

"That was before," she murmured vaguely. "It's just what we're taught we need to do. Kill Knights or hand 'em over to the Negaverse, y'know? It was an easy rule. Now? Now I'm not so sure about it."

The response was less than mature, as the cat-girl took on a childish look of exasperation with dramatically lowered brow and still not making real eye contact with the senshi.

It wasn't her fault either court princess never bothered to be truthful about the origins of their front line fodder, in her opinion, and her fatal flaw was a lack of tolerance for ignorance no matter how honestly it had been come by. To her, the Dark Mirror Court really was an abomination. Similes of dead comrades because Ares couldn't let the true court rest in peace. Instead, she tried to copy it, and posture herself as queen, even if it meant turning to Chaos and tarnishing everything they'd fought for. And where her human soul tended to weigh things on the more diplomatic side, Zia was still just a touch bitter about Orpheus to be of much help.

Something struck her, though, and she looked up from the mirror to give Chariklo a weirdly confused look from over the frame before she hugged it to her chest and drew her legs up.

"So uh..."

Her eyes darted back and forth.

"You don't know... anything? At all? Didn't you ask them questions? I am guessing in all they taught you they didn't... say what they do to your soul. When you get converted. White Universe born senshi don't exactly get mirror powers... um..." She coughed, and paused as if she debated trailing off. "Naturally."

"Naturally," Chariklo echoed in a drily amused voice. Still, the confused look on the cat-girl's face was satisfying on some level. As was the fact that her voice didn't sound quite so distant.

"I know how to Mirrorwalk and how to siphon energy away using a wraith," she answered slowly. "I know that Ares said we would save the senshi before we left this planet to the Negaverse. Why would I ask questions? At the time Ares was giving me the power and means to take control of my life. To serve a purpose, she'd said."

She laughed softly, a hint of bitterness evident.

"She made me into something more than a bratty street punk. She gave me a way to be free of what path my parents were trying to force me on to. Why would I have questioned that? So," she narrowed her eyes and stared point blank at Zirconia, "what does it do to my soul? Because, damned if I feel any different. I haven't gone crazy and starting to stomp on kittens or eat babies just because I took a trip through the Mirror!"

Zirconia's lips scrunched one way, and her line of sight went the other extreme as she exhaled a long, and awkward murmur of something unintelligible. "You were born with that power, she didn't give it to you. The mirrormagic, yes, but people are just born senshi. You just needed a catalyst to awaken."

She rotated the mirror in her hands and seemed to be thinking, unsure of how chatty she wanted to be. "Ares was just a senshi to another queen. I was her cat, we came from somewhere else. When this universe's Moon Princess came and stole our queen's royal crystal we pursued. But there's so much Chaos here. Everyone died, except myself, Ares, and Gaia. Ares tried to remake a court in her image and failed. So she moved on to Chaos, to make better versions, try harder. Mirror souls need a white moon host to house their starseeds, that's how people born here can use our magic. So with Chaos giving her a power boost she could take senshi hosts and make... things... that aren't quite as good at it but kind of seem like our old comrades."

She stared Chariklo down with a weird look as she thought the sentiment she had been stumbling around.

You're just a doll to make her feel better everyone else was dead.

The stare continued, as she thought of starseeds and souls and transference and what Cassandra had said, about no new souls leaving the cauldron. Very slowly, with all of the cautious and precise movements of an animal, the Mauvian woman set the mirror down and crept off her perch on the table, down closer to where the senshi sat in the grass.

"Can I feel? Your starseed, I mean. If you've never been awakened or upgraded by a cat I guess you wouldn't have a point of reference if I swore it was like that... I just..." She held out her hand, hovering in mid-air at a safe distance awaiting for permission.

Twilight Jaws

"Should have been clearer, sorry. I know that I would have been a senshi regardless. I'll be honest, I like my life. I like what I am. I am pretty damn certain that I don't have any other souls in here with me," she said, tapping her fingertips over her heart. She'd decided, at least for the moment, to ignore the implication that she was some kind of Frankenstein's creature. Still, it was interesting to hear.

Even if it wasn't true. Because it couldn't be true. She was still herself, right?

Jumping a little as Zirconia was suddenly much closer and holding out a hand, asking for permission to see her starseed. Turning a delicate shade of green as the request brought forth visions of Bischofite destroying Bianca, of that General holding Leto's starseed and preparing to swallow it... Did she really want to give someone who disliked her that kind of opening?

Still... she was curious about the soul thing. Okay, she was a little freaked out. A lot freaked out. But it would give her information. And if Zirconia tried anything, surely she'd be able to do something, right? It wasn't like she was being held down or anything.

Taking a deep breath and visibly steeling herself, Chariklo gave a curt nod and sat up a little straighter.

"Hurry up and satisfy your curiosity before I lose my nerve," she muttered and closed her eyes.

"No, you only have one soul, that's the problem," She answered a bit too quickly. "If that... It's what I'm confused about, since I made contact with our home universe. When I spoke Ares in mirrorspace... ages ago... she said she was getting them from home. But that's not true, I don't know..."

In spite of getting the go ahead, she still hovered, hesitating. "Have you ever see a Dark Mirror starseed next to a normal one? A normal starseed glows. It's a small, concentrated piece of life. All of your lives, the afterlife, every life you'll ever have. But a Dark Mirror starseed has no light of life. It just... reflects..."

She trailed off into small murmurs again, as she pressed her palm to Chariklo's chest, apparently having no qualms about invading her space. She attempted to interact with the starseed as she had with the stolen starseeds Wolframite and Bischofite had used to bargain with her. Ironically on of those being poor Bianca's.

She found the wavelength with ease, having done plenty of experiments on the mirrorcoating of the disembodied starseeds. It resonated through her aura, inducing a small, bubbling feeling of warmth. It was there, just like the rest. "Ah... You're the same," She pulled her hand back and sat back on the grass in front of her, frowning and seeming lost in thought as she folded her arms across her chest.

"And what is your purpose? You don't really buy that bit about getting to space, do you?"
