Sailor Chibi Almary was not certain that he really wanted to be doing this. Not only was it a kind of scary thing to go out on patrol - especially so alone, which he tried to avoid because of the warnings Massalia had passed him - but it seemed some days like none of the bigger senshi wanted to help. It was just him, and Massalia, and Subra, and...

Well, the nightmares he kept having of a dark, scary place where the bad guys won weren't helping too much.

Because of all of these things, the chibi senshi just wanted to finish up his patrol lap - seriously, why did he even do this when he couldn't even fight? What was the point of being a good guy if you couldn't do anything but make a bad guy mad? - and go home, back to his books and his models and his pet bunny.

Nothing ever happened when he was out here, anyway... despite the bad feeling he was starting to get. "It doesn't mean anything," he murmured, trying to reassure himself. "Nothing's gonna happen..."

Certainly not any monsters. Nope. Never.

Captain Merlinite was particularly good at finding trouble, but it always seemed to be the wrong kind. He wanted to find a good fight that would really prove himself to the Negaverse, but usually he found something that either put him back a few steps or he could just never talk about, because if he did he would get himself in huge trouble. Friendly white moon senshi he somehow could not hurt, for one thing. Maybe he was just getting too soft.

He needed to step up his game, stop losing himself to these ideas of friendship. When had stuff like that ever mattered to him before?

It hadn't. He was ruthless, damn it! He would step on anyone to get to the top, and he needed to start doing that again. That was when he was the most successful: doing what he knew how to do. He was not made to be a nice guy, it was just against his nature. He kept telling himself these things, but even he was having trouble believing it.

Feeling a strange aura, not too strong or troubling but something different, he moved toward it not knowing what to expect. When he found the source of it, he sighed, realizing why it had felt familiar. This was not his first encounter with a chibi senshi. Damn kids! Did it even count if he beat up one of those? Eh. White moon was white moon. If he got the kids star seed he could just lie about where it was from.

"Out past your bedtime, don't you think?"

Almary didn't like this feeling. It was big, it was dark, and it was - "G-gah!" Scary guy! Scary, scary guy right there, and talking to him. Was this one of the Negaverse people Massalia had told him about? He certainly didn't feel... right. In fact, just looking at this person made Almary want to run away, and somehow he just knew that was his best option.

...But... where could he run to? He was out here alone, and there wasn't much he could do unless he found someone safe - someone stronger. Massalia's idea about chibis sticking together was sounding better and better the more he thought about it, and the little blue-haired chibi senshi was quite certain now that he needed to stick to group patrols in the future.

... If he had a future waiting for him after this, anyway.

"Whether I should or not isn't any of your business," he answered finally, trying to sound confident and unafraid... an effort that was in vain due to how shaky his voice was. Almary was terrified and unprepared, and an unfortunately easy target.

He was going to run - he was - just as soon as he could get the chance.

Merlinite grinned at the little senshi, something he had seen some of the scarier Negas he aspired to be like doing masterfully, and tried to look as tough and dangerous as possible. He even called his weapon to his hand immediately, and what was not scary about a spiked club?

He was putting in a lot of effort to scare a little kid, and maybe he should feel bad about that... but he didn't. Or he was telling himself he didn't. He was not a softie, damn it!

"Well, consider me your punishment for sneaking about this late. Little kids like you need to know what a curfew is."

There was a slight hesitation that might have been hard to see if one was not looking for it. He debated for a moment the merits of attacking a kid, but his desperate need to be the best won out over his growing set of morals. He gripped his club tightly and lurched forward, not playing nice tonight and taking a swing for the chibi senshi as he would any other enemy.

That. That was a big, scary-looking weapon. With spikes. Almary swallowed, but set his jaw - if he was going to get out of this in one piece, then he couldn't show how scared he was. He could do this. He could - eep! No fair no fair no fair! The thought repeated itself in his mind as the chibi senshi yelped and skipped backwards, stumbling a little as he tried to avoid the Negaverse Captain's weapon.

"G-gah! Y-you're a big bully!"

This wasn't magical playtime - this was a crazy person genuinely attacking him with a spiked club. No more time to think or to wonder what he should or could do. The miniature senshi did the only thing he could do with confidence: he aimed a good solid (he hoped) kick at the nasty person's shin, and didn't even wait to see if he'd managed to make any kind of impact before he turned on his heel and started to flee.

He had to get away.

He just had to!

Merlinite was getting a bit of a reputation for being on kids, but he supposed there were worse things to be known for. Being a sissy who ran from battles, for example, or worst yet, being a Senshi sympathizer. He definitely needed to avoid that at all costs, so maybe he was over compensating a bit by fighting any White Mooner he found.

It was their fault for awakening kids, anyway, not his. He was just doing his damn job.

"Bully? Kid, you're in the wrong town if you think you can just walk around while powered up and not get some kind of Nega sniffing around. You should be thankful it's me: there are monsters out here, you know."

Because attacking a kid with a spiked club was not monstrous.

When the kid kicked him in the shin he was surprised by how much it hurt, but he supposed that even chibi senshi got power boosts, just like everyone else. He let out a frustrated yelp and bounced on one leg for a moment before giving chase.

"Get back here, you little brat! Don't think you'll get away with that!" Merlinite threw his club at the senshi's back, just to slow him down. Little kids were damn fast when they wanted to be.

"OW!"

Almary let out a yelp as the club hit him in the back, bouncing off with a 'thunk' that meant the chibi would be dealing with a nasty bruise for the next few days. He hadn't known what to expect when he'd turned and ran away from the nega, but a club to the back wasn't it. That had hurt, hurt more than he'd expected, and a few tears forced their way out of his eyes as he stumbled.

This guy was mean. Negaverse were definitely Bad People, and he - he had to do something. Swallowing, the little chibi turned on his heel and stared down the approaching nega, trying not to notice how much his back hurt as he crossed his arms, balling his hands into fists.

"Mud Splatter!"

He flicked his wrists open and shot a short spray of sticky mud at the Negaverse Captain, hoping to obscure his vision long enough to let him get away like he really, really needed to to.

Merlinite let out a hoot of a victory cry when his club hit its target, which was pretty great. He had not been too far off so his throw had little chance of missing, but still. Senshi had a very tricky way of getting out of all kinds of danger without it seeming possible, so he needed to learn to not leave anything to chance.

He banished his club before it hit the ground, calling it back to his hand like he had seen other Negas doing with their weapon. That was a great trick! He was so happy about it, he wanted to try it again, but he was not going to throw it again so soon.

The kid might be more clever than he looked, and figure that one out.

"Mud what? AW GROSS."

Merlinite got a splatter of mud right to the face, and he backed up a bit, putting his arm up to try and wipe the mud off without getting his hands in it. Sometimes he just did not want get messy and this was just vile.

"This is your magic?! I hate kids."

Yes! Not only had he actually managed to use his attack, it had managed to stop the bully in his tracks! The window was brief, and Almary squashed the urge to celebrate because really, he was in danger and now was not the time to be excited over doing something right.

Now was the time to turn and run again - although maybe not before blowing a raspberry at the jerk of a Nega.

"Gonna be a bully, you're gonna get dirty," he called out, aware that he was not... being as cautious as he should be in this situation, but maybe terror was making his brain melt or something.

... Or he'd been spending too much time with Massalia.

Come to think of it, it was probably the latter.

Regardless, maybe he should see about getting out of here - or at least getting some help from someone? - before the forever-dubbed 'bully' came at him again.

Merlinite really, really did not understand how any human being, Negaverse or not, could like kids, chibi senshi or not. They were just terrible, dirty, rude, inconsiderate little things that seemed to cost more money than they were worth, and certainly took more time and patience than Merlinite would ever be capable of. He was very thankful that all the kids he met and got annoyed by were someone else's problem in the long run.

He would jump off a building while not powered up if he had to deal with crap like this every day.

"You better run, you little brat. If I catch you again, I'm going to beat you senseless, and maybe you'll learn something!" He was of the mind that this kid had just not had enough lessons in what it was to be in a war, and he had to take it upon himself to do the teaching.

Next time. After he cleaned off this disgusting mud.

For now, though, Merlinite would let the kid run off, and think that he got away with it. Then, it would be much more fun to show him what it really meant to be a bully later.

He had won? Not really. Almary didn't think so, at least, but he was getting away (mostly) intact, so that was close enough to a victory to satisfy him for now. Not being dead was definitely something to celebrate, after all.

And besides, he thought, looking back over his shoulder to blow a raspberry at the mean and nasty (and thoroughly evil, he was now convinced) Negaverse officer, he would never be caught alone again.

Massalia's advice to never patrol alone was more than advice, now - it was the Rules, and the Rules were to be followed.
