I hate computers.
"Stop crying."
In spite of similar goals it had been two years since Zia had to deal with the judgmental voice in her brain who occasionally took over to drive the car and they were worse than ever at syncing up, especially when Zirconia didn't like something.
And Zirconia didn't like most things. But she especially hated Zee's flagrant abuse of texting and chattering to get anything done. The old Mauvian didn't understand a lot of 21st century conveniences and knew what she knew via access to Zia's text addicted 20-something memories. But she still didn't like it.
"I need a favor from her, since you're kind of useless in the guardian cat department."
I am an excellent Mauvian. A seasoned guardian with generations of experience.
"Yeah," Zia clicked her laptop closed and slung the messenger bag over her shoulder and headed for the meeting place, having chitchatted with a certain silver lady. "A little too seasoned. I need someone from this century."
It was hard to remember to tone down that tendency to have whole conversations with herself once she'd left the safety of the penthouse where the only other human to judge her already knew she had a weird voice in her head that wasn't sourced by mental illness. Outdoors, it was harder to keep her mouth shut and involved a lot of teeth gritting as she received a constant onslaught of old lady criticism.
The end result was her sitting there waiting and looking extremely unpleasant.

It had been months since Ash had run into the Mirror cat with her bouncing ********* and it felt like SO MUCH had happened. She'd nearly forgotten all about her in the hustle and bustle, so the message that had popped up on her social media had come entirely as a surprise. She wasn't disappointed by it though! Rather, she was a bit excited, because last meeting had come with a promise for information sharing at a later date. And then there was whatever it was she wanted to talk about, which was exciting too. New things were always exciting!
Trotting down the sidewalk, Ash arrived to the meeting spot at the specified time, her tail lifted high behind her in a sassy pose.
"Zia!" She trilled as she picked up her pace, bounding across the space between them. When she reached the woman's feet, she gathered herself for a smooth leap up onto the empty lap and claimed a seat there, reaching for a cat-style nose sniff greeting.
"Hello, Darling! Its so good to see you again! I was surprised to hear from you, but pleased as well. You simply must tell me all about what's happened since the last time we talked. I have news of my own, of course, but you first!" She said excitedly, settling back to sit neatly on Zia's lap.

Zia seemed braced for something, but when no snarky response came from Zirconia's voice, she relaxed a bit and even gave a strained smile as she reached down and lavished a few reserved pets on Ash.
"I, uh, need your help with something..." She said, a little stilted as she tried to remember their last conversation, and how to best phrase everything in a compact way that still got the point across.
"I found it. What I'm looking for. A mirror that opens a portal to the other universe. The only problem is it doesn't open all the way." She set her laptop back aside and powered up, pulling the velvet jewelry box from subspace and opening it to show Ash the crystal inside. Or, most of a crystal. The greater Pyrite crystal, parallel twin to Endymion's golden crystal, had been damaged, but the majority of it was still there. "And I need someone named Cassandra to finish the bridge and take Zirconia's soul home. But she'd not going to do it unless I get the missing parts."
She grimaced and looked at Ash to see if she was comprehending so far.

The silver cat preened happily as she received her pettings, completely assured that it was simply her due for being such a lovely, friendly girl. Her pointed ears perked up at the request for aid and she blinked large, green eyes at her friend.
"Help? Oh, darling, anything you need, its yours." Ash said as she listened to the short explanation. It didn't take much to capture her rapt attention... the 'portal to the other universe' had her hard. Seeing the jewelry box, the guardian rose up to poke her nose into it, eyes almost crossed as she thoroughly inspected the bit of crystal.
"Goodness... where on this Earth did you find something like this...?" She murmured. So, this was what a royal's crystal looked like. Even broken, it was the only one she had ever seen and most certainly was the only one she'd ever get a chance to see this close. Her ears twitched and she glanced up, a frown rumpling her small face.
"Send Zirconia home? Not that that isn't a good thing, of course going home is a good thing, but..." Ash's tail flicked gently, restless behind her. "Will you be okay? I mean... getting a soul taken out of you... that's a big deal, I should think. I will, of course, help you in any way possible, but I just... worry, a little bit. I assume you know what you're doing, you're a clever girl, so really don't mind me. What is it you need from me? I don't really have much experience with crystals and magic and things, I'm more of a technology aficionado... But I will certainly do my best."

Zia seemed to grimace at the question. She had thought about that herself and acknowledged that depending on how much she had already merged her starseed, she could very well be broken. She couldn't see her ancestor or connect with anyone on a magical level. She didn't know if she'd heal when the parasite was removed or decline.
She hoped for the latter. She was still moving, she was still fighting, and she dominated control over her own body.
She just kind of shrugged a tense shrug and nudged the crystal pieces with her finger.
"The big piece was inside someone's dream mirror. Difficult magic, but now that Zirconia is awake it's easier to talk about hard level stuff. But the tiny shards are... everywhere."
She managed a smile and reached a finger to rub Ash's head behind an ear. "That's why I need you! I can't use any of this Mauvian tech for crap. I need help. A broadcast message to senshi phones. I was hoping maybe you'd think of a decent way to sell this. Shards are weird, they're attracted to magic and nightmares, I think. But I need people to know I need them when they appear."
She fidgeted uncomfortably. "Cassandra's not happy with Zirconia, I need to win her favor somehow..."

Ash watched the grimace with a sad expression, a soft paw reaching to pat at the finger and crystal. It wasn't a denial, but she would be ever hopeful for her friend.
Saying the shard was from a dream mirror caught the guardian's attention and she turned her gaze curiously back to it, eyes wide and ears forward.
"I've never heard of a dream mirror!" She said, unable to help a bit of excitement over learning something new. Her little pink nose poked into the box until a finger pulled her attention away and green eyes slitted in pleasure.
"If you need tech advice, you have certainly come to the right cat, darling." Ash purred, cracking an eye open. "I can certainly broadcast a mass message for you. That's one of my simplest tricks, really. Do you know what you want the message to say? If you'd like me to write it up for you, I'll need to know a little bit more about what people are looking for and how to recognize a shard when they see one. Which I'd like to know anyway so I can help out too."
Tilting her head, Ash headbutted the hand that had been tickling her ear, her purr rumbling from her throat. "We'll get you set up, darling, don't you worry. I'll make sure everyone does their best to help you, or else! I can be quite a tough customer when I want to be."

"It's uh... Hm." Zia tried her best to lighten up and ramble on the difference between the two cats' knowledge. "It's inside of you, it reflects your dreams. Zirconia was able to do more magic with them before..." She trailed off.
Before what?
She could vaguely get flashes of a time when Zirconia practiced much more powerful sorcery and enchantment but they were vignettes that had no sense of cohesion with her memories of now. Zia just shrugged it off. Soon Zirconia's memories that wavered in and out of darkness over decades would not be her problem. Instead she laughed and lightly rested her finger over Ash's chest where she figured her dream mirror rested.
"Well, I'm not really sure exactly what the announcement would say. To anyone you can get it to would be helpful, but you should probably leave out the royal crystal bit. A shard looks just like the pieces in that box, and I can help find them with..."
She moved a few inches down the bench before she shifted to her fully feline form, and then hopped up on the table.
"I have no idea how Mau-tech works here, but in Zirconia's universe Mauvians can still make things," She said, backing up, and doing a small flip in the way most cats summoned things like cell phones or henshin pens and other things they made. In this case, the forest cat produced a red gem lens, and then shifted back up to a form with human hands to hold it.
"It's enchanted to tune in to nearby shard auras and cry out. Looking through it makes the location of the shard much more clearer."

"Oh! I see... I didn't know we had such things." Ash churred as she glanced down at the finger on her chest, as though she could see through fur and flesh to the mirror inside of her. This was new information and new information was good. It pleased her greatly.
"I can make something up, detailing what we're looking for and to contact me or you if something comes up." She blinked slowly as the other cat pulled out a red gem wrapped in silver, reaching out a tentative paw to bat at it curiously. Leaning forward, she peered through the haze of red, but there was nothing to see, sadly.
Stepping back, Ash summoned her phone and wrangled, it in her paws until she could take a photo of the lens, a sharp snap click of the camera going off before she set the phone down again.
"Expect that announcement out as soon as I get back to HQ. I'll send you a note letting you know when I've done it, ok? If you need any more help, please do let me know, Darling. I'll do whatever I can, not the least of which is keeping an eye out for those shards of yours." The Burmilla rubbed the top of her head against Zia's hands with affection, her spine arching before she jumped down off the bench.
"I'll be in touch!" She called back, her tail lifted behind her.
