At some point between arriving at the portals and waiting for Noah to join him, Al realized how close Halloween actually was. He wondered distantly if there was any good scary movies out and if he could drag Noah to one or maybe two... Either way he was ready to pig out on theater food and do a normal human activity he missed quite dearly.

Noah arrived shortly afterward, dressed in jeans and a hoodie that said, in bold letters, STAND BACK! I'm going to try science! He had a backpack slung over one shoulder. "I'm starting to feel weird if I don't wear my coat," he said as he jogged up, but didn't appear to be too disturbed. "What city are we going to hit? Somewhere cool?"

Al handn't realized they were meant to dress differently so there he was.... red scarf and gold trim coat. He felt a bit embarrassed at the dawning realization he was still doing it wrong.
"Yeah... I'm... yeah... wearing mine anyway because of that." Liar.
"I'm not sure. I was going to tell the portal guys to send us to the best but least crowded movie theater they could think of. Do you have anywhere in mind yourself? I guess we could see somewhere cool while we're out..."

"You can put it in my backpack if you want to," Noah suggested. "I think we're not supposed to wear them on leave. Secret identities, y'know?" He considered the question. "Not the Midwest," he said. "Um - you wanna go somewhere warm or cold? Colder than here maybe. I kind of get tired of warm all the time."

Al immediately shrugged out of his coat. "I didn't think about it really," Al admitted as he circled around Noah to try and get at his backpack. "Which pocket is free?" He was leery about accidentally snooping by starting to unzip a bunch of pockets to find one he could use. He pointedly kept his scarf on throughout this exchange but had lowered the bundle to drape about his shoulders and down his back, exposing his long black hair.
"You from the midwest?" He asked distractedly before with a sharp laugh he added his own two cents, "It would be nice to have a fall that felt like fall." He nodded his head in agreement with Noah, "I miss not feeling like I'm being steamed alive. Cold would be cool." He winced at his own pun. That was terrible.

"One of the senior researchers said something about it when she was talking about her leave time two days ago so I remembered," Noah said. "Just the top pocket, there's not a lot of stuff in there or anything." There were a few notebooks and miscellaneous objects in the backpack, but enough room remained for a folded coat. "Uh huh. Wisconsin. Uh, north," he added, remembering that Al wasn't American and couldn't be reasonably expected to know where all the states were. "Up by the Great Lakes."

That would have been great except Al's coat was not folded. He unzipped the indicated pocket then balled his coat up and stuffed in in there before shoving on it a bit to make room for the zipper. He eventually managed to get it to close.
"Is it true that the cheese there is the best?" Al knew better than to go with his initial knee jerk question which was if Noah had a pet cow.
He shifted around Noah to approach the portal attendants, "Portal to a nice movie theatre somewhere in the... uh... northern states of America?" He looked back at Noah curiously, suddenly unsure if that was acceptable.

Noah held still to let Al stuff his coat into the backpack. "It is. It totally is," he agreed. "I bet you've never had fresh cheese curds." He nodded agreement to Al's request. "Um, somewhere on the coast," he added. "Please."

"Never had cheese curds at all," let alone having it fresh. Al smiled cheekily at Noah with an exaggerated waggle of his brows, "are you a seaman?" Best joke ever, he was sure of it.
Without waiting for Noah's response to it, he ducked through their waiting portal. They say to always leave your audience wanting more.

"Okay we're gonna have to fix that sometime." The joke left him blinking, missing the point, and he followed Al through the portal still confused. "Not really?" he said as he landed on the other side, looking around for any cues as to where they might have ended up. "I mean, I've been fishing on lakes and stuff, we used to go to a cabin on a lake every summer, but not, like, the ocean?" He didn't really see what that had to do with anything, either, and Laz was laughing again and not sharing why it was funny.

It wasn't easy for Al to figure out where they wound up exactly. Especially as they were staring down a brick and mortar mall which could have been anywhere in the world. He was sure they were at the right place though. First, it was brass monkeys out. Second, the sign above the doors they were looking at listed what looked like movie titles. Finally, there was a very distinct scent on the breeze that brought back memories of his home and his recent trip to Maine. He took a deep refreshing breath of it all.
He finally eased his attention back to Noah, still trying to explain why he wasn't a seaman, and offered a sharp raspy hah. "Naw man. Sea. Man. Seaman. Seamen. Semen. Get it?" He was flashing his companion a wide toothy grin.

Noah's eyes narrowed. He scowled, thought about it, and finally presented his friend with one middle finger. "a*****e."

Al laughed at Noah and his wee middle finger too. "Took you long enough man," he reached to grab the door and hold it open for Noah. "Ladies first." That big stupid grin was still there.

"Oh, okay, go ahead then," Noah snipped back, the scowl turning into a smirk.

Al gasped, he tried to look scandalized but it only took him so far before he was grinning again. "You're an a**, I hope you realize that." He went on ahead obediently as he called back in a sing-song voice, "great big asssss~" There were more pronouns he wanted to use but realized might have upset any audience present as well as Noah himself.
Then the desire struck him to just stop in the doorway to look around, "wow it's so nice and warm in here." He was blocking the way in now so Noah either had to shove or go around. "and it smells like popcorn."
