Her mind scrambled over the facts that she knew, each tidbit carefully turned over only to come up with the bare amount of information. Draugur could be caught at any point in the year, but only during the Blood Moon were they a bit easier to tame. It was linked to the fact that they disliked light, and during the blood moon the darkness lent them strength. They liked dark and damp places, which is why they most often inhabited the swamps. They ate meat like any other predator. When they emerged to mate is when you could see swarms of them, black cloaked creatures swirling in the night air. They made a lot of sound during that time.
But what about the other times? Elleth couldn't remember if they were quiet creatures or ones with a normal level of noise. If they were silent it would make sense that she wouldn't hear them. Their nests had been disturbed enough maybe they'd already settled down. Maybe they hadn't started up yet? Maybe they'd already mated and the rest were the rejected lovers silently nursing their wounds. Elleth made a frustrated noise in the back of her throat and barely refrained from pulling on her hair. Her hands were filthy and while most of it had dried, she didn't want to add to the mess that she knew was already in the purple locks.
Why had she thought that taming would be easy? It was a challenge for a reason and one she'd gone willingly into. She'd known her chances and yet still, here she was. Her pride was the only thing keeping her out here, in the swamp with the biting bugs and all the slime. She would stay in the forsaken place until she was successful or dawn rose. Which ever happened first, though she was hoping it was the rather than the latter.
