Suluksati was on patrol, again, as per usual, and she knew she had a busy day ahead of her. The blood moon was at its apex, and that meant bloodlust – ferocious bloodlust.

Bloodlust meant more attacks, more deaths, more needless violence between people, but Suluksati was not concerned about the magescian cost of the most dangerous time of year.

She was concerned about the dragons.

Between the magescian's desire to hunt the immense and glorious beings for sport, and the dragon's own primal violence, and the blood moon's fell influence, there would be many dragons dead. Whether they died at each others claws, or at the cruel blades of magescians, it was – to Suluksati – a terrible tragedy.

She made a pass along the coast, enjoying the way the sea breeze lifted her up, when she saw three silver shapes in the distance, flying over the coast. They were too big to be khehora...

Dragons.

Suluksati groaned inwardly, and hoped that these were local ayrala dragons – the silver and their impeccable flight gave them away – and not interlopers from Ayr looking for a fight. She circled back to the forest line, keeping an eye on them as they approached...

She couldn't tell if it was the strong wind pulling against her wings or the beautiful blood moon that was almost the shade of her hair, but whatever it was, she knew today was the day to get something done.

She breathed in the crisp morning air, glanced at the sun that was barely rising over the peak of the treetops, and decided she would defeat a dragon today and get the last dragon soul she needed to present to her race leader so she could rank up.

Of course, she needed a lot more practice at hunting, as she had to flee from most of the dragons she had encountered in her journey thus far. But how was she going to get practice if she stayed inside all the time and tinkered with her gadgets?

So Rosetta packed her little satchel with some bread and milk and an apple, pulled on her plate armor boots, and took to the sky. Her hood and scarf flapped gracelessly behind her as she drifted in the air, letting the wind take her where it would.

She enjoyed the view of the golden treetops as she was sent closer and closer to the coast. She was so entranced by the light glinting off of the water that she almost collided straight into three big silver beasts. Rosetta tumbled from the sky, crash landing into some bushes that bordered the sandy coast.

Flustered and startled, the little red-haired maiden fumbled for her wand, wondering how she could ever take on three dragons at once. Wide golden eyes darted back and forth between the great silver dragons, watching, waiting for one of them to make a move.

Maybe she wouldn't get that much done today after all.

Sulu watched as, like a series of stormclouds, the Ayrala moved in. She kept her distance, wary, waiting to see what the three were up to. She was willing to leave them be, so long as they did not get their arrogant selves in trouble, but they looked very much like trouble, and so she did not want to take her eyes from them. It was for their own safety.

So, she was watching when the orderite struck the dragonic stormfront and fell to the ground. Suluksati rumbled and glided closer.

That was definitely trouble. And if it was of the dragon-hunting kind, it was her duty – nay, her reason for living – to avert it...

~~~
The Ayrala dragon at the lead of its small pack, initially startled by Rosetta's fall, laughed; a ferocious sound like the howling of wind amidst clothen canvases. It's voice was like thunder, though it spoke in the dragon language, a language that the dovaa and khehora knew but would seem as mere sounds to the Orderite.
they began to circle around where she fell, rumbling, possibly speaking amidst themselves. They seemed to come to a conclusion and stopped circling, their faces harsh and hungry and predatory and looking. Right. At her...
Click to show.Trembling fingers, white as parchment, scrambled to unfasten the buckles of her satchel, She froze when the sinister sound enveloped her, her ears violently echoing with the sounds of the most tempestuous windstorm she ever had the misfortune to hear. Rosetta's golden gaze rose slowly to meet the tumbling orbs of the menacing dragons, feeling the sneers they were no doubt giving her on her skin.
She gulped and tried to steady her hands, finally managing to release her bag from its binding. She clutched her wand with an iron grip, letting all her fear, panic, and timidity fill it with power. She took another deep breath to calm her nerves so she could think straight, determining the best possible way to get through this situation unharmed.
There was no doubt in her mind that the great silver beasts had the advantage on her, in size and in power. But the little red haired girl was fast and nimble. She could try and fly back through the tree tops, hoping that her path would be too cumbersome for her to be perused for long. Though, there was malicious intelligence gleaming back at her through their eyes, so she would need some sort of diversion in order to make her escape.
Pulling her wand from her bag, Rosetta unleashed an extremely bright flash of light, aiming to stun or temporarily blind her opponents so she could flee. She heard the agitated shrieks the beasts made as she turned tail and fled, but was consumed in a wall of sand. One of the beasts had beat its mighty wings and sent a gust of sand hurtling towards her.
The tiny particles stung her exposed skin, fighting its way into her tightly closed eyes, nose, mouth, and hair. Sputtering and spitting, Rosetta tried to recover as quickly as she could, but was met by one of the beasts before she could scrub all the sand from her eyes. She blindly sent a beam of light energy in his direction, hoping it made damage enough to let her escape.
Things seemed to be taking care of themselves, from what Suluksati could see. The dragons had attacked, the orderite had attacked, and now the dragons were chasing the orderite. She glided along nearby, observing the display of light amidst the cloud of whipped-up sand, and wondered if she even needed to interfere.
Just let nature play out she thought, bitterly, Let it run its course. the world could, after all, use fewer dragon hunters.
But...
She's not attacking thought Suluksati, observing Rosetta's actions, She's fleeing. She's running away, or trying to.
Someone who was scared, who was willing to flee... that might be someone open to hearing her ideas about dragons. Someone she could convince.
She turned, flying in to assist, The dragons, she could see, had found their sport. They would be persistent: Ayrala always were. As the girl's light flash faded into the sands, Suluksati made one of her own, streaking in like a gleaming comet to intercept and distract...
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Rosetta heard an anguished cry soon after she had blindly sent her charged beam of energy into the wall of sand. She spat one more time, the sand settling for a moment, which allowed her to quickly glance around her. She only counted two giant silver beasts in her sweep of the coast. The red haired girl scanned the skies, finding another beast high in the air.
Before she could realize what was happening, the dragon in the sky let out a dazzling sphere of light, which streaked across the sky like a shooting star. The little Apprentice immediately blocked her eyes from the blinding light, averting her gaze to her feet. The last thing she expected to find was a small colored orb no bigger than her two fists pressed together. It was a dragon soul! That must've been the sound she had heard ; she had killed her first dragon all by herself! Excitement and adrenaline pumped through her, storing the small sphere in her armor without thinking.
The two other dragons appeared to be recovering from the second bright flash, their attention switching back and fourth between the figure in the sky and the small 'threat' on the ground. This would have been the perfect opportunity for Rosetta to flee, while she was no longer the main threat to these great beasts. But the girl remembered that she needed to present three dragon souls to her elder so she could become an adept. There were two more dragons, at least, two dragons that proved malicious and posed a threat, that she could take down (well, at least she hoped so). This is the thought that kept her rooted to her spot, her wand clutched tightly in her fists, as she waited for the monsters to advance on her.
Poke... lets add another dragon, shall we?
The dragons did not appreciate Suluksati's interference. Hissing with pain at her light, they left their sport behind to teach the uppity lesser feathered being – the other one – a lesson in humility: one they intended to be deadly.
They stole the air beneath her wings, buffetted her in the cyclones of their flight, and snapped at her with powerful, arrogant, sabre-toothed jaws.
But Suluksati had fought their kind before. She wanted to shriek at them to stop, but she knew they would not – no dragon ever listened to her, and there was no way to convince them otherwise. Not even when it was too late, and their soul lay glittering on the ground.
Suluksati refused to give up on them, however. She roared, turning around and charging at the ayrala dragons, her feathers bright and otherworldly with her magic.
The dragons were concerned at her claws and teeth, but they agreed – no khehora was a threat. Ever. They attacked her, and she responded with the thoughtless vengeance of a beast, latching onto the Ayrala with her sharp claws as it flapped and shrieked and tried to shake her off. It's companion watched, in shocked amusement, as they spiraled off into the distance...
Suluksati, on her 'mount', spiralled towards the ground, clawing and ripping at the dragon as they fell, struggling. Finally, her experience lent her strength, and with a savage slice of her claws, injured it beyond redemption. It screamed its defiance, arrogant until its last breath, before disintegrating and falling away into its soul, which Suluksati caught. She hummed a sound of mourning, her wounds bothering her in an off-hand way through the adrenaline. She flapped her wings to regain her balance and to see how the other dragon... and the young orderite with it... fared.
The Ayrala remembered its prey, and looked for it. It was sure its comrade could handle itself – that meant more fun for it, and maybe khehora meat and feathers later. If its friend couldn't... too bad. Weak blood was not needed among the dragons... It leered down at Rosetta, and the wind began to blow again...
