That was it, he was going on a hunt and he was going to kill something. Further more, it was going to be something big and bad! It was going to be the biggest and baddest thing he could find. He was going to kill it and prove to everyone that he was just as awesome as his brother and the rest of their family. The jealousy he felt towards his brother wasn't something that he was use to, or something that he liked either. His brother and him had always had a great relationship, but now it was like Tarlen was happy that his brother had left. He didn't want to stay in Peralian's shadow for the rest of his life. He had to be himself, break free. Sure they were already showing their differences, such as the fact that Peralian was using magic and he didn't use it. They did both have the bow, but their second weapon would be something different. Tarlen hadn't decided what he would use, but it was going to be different from his brother. Maybe a sword? Or a club. That was really his only choices, since the other one would be something with magic which was what Peralian chose. And he also didn't really have a lot of luck with magic anyways, with his luck he would end up hurting himself more than anyone else.
Whatever, he would think about that later. He was just happy that he had finally mastered the bow. Without it there wasn't much he could kill. Maybe a few small things, but nothing big or bad. As he sulked around he realized he didn't have any one thing in mind that he wanted to kill. Maybe he should have made a list, or something so he could at least have an idea of where exactly he needed to go and what he needed to look for. He had been tracking something when he first left the house, but he had lost it about thirty minutes ago and was no wandering around aimlessly.
As he walked around a loud noise came from somewhere to his left. Quickly he knocked his bow and moved over to hide behind a huge rock. The noise continued and slowly Tarlen moved to look around the rock for only a second before returning to being fully hidden. What he spotted made his heart flutter in both excitement and fear, though mostly fear. There were dragons, Ysali dragons at that. He was happy at least for that, for he knew that when it came to dragons Ysali were one of the easier to defeat. Not that he didn't think he could defeat the bigger dragons, he just wanted to take it easy for his first fight.
With a deep breath he nodded, deciding that if he didn't do it right then and there he would never do it and this whole thing would have been for nothing. "You can do this Tarlen, you're just as good as Peralian and he's killed plenty of these things..." Well he wasn't sure how many his brother had killed, he had totally forgotten due to his fear, but he knew that his brother had killed at least one of them. With a nod of his head Tarlen quickly turned and moved to jump on top of the large rock, knowing that a archers height is a good advantage, especially against such large targets.
"DIE!" He screamed as he let loose and arrow and quickly knocked another one. Thankfully his first arrow hit it's target, but there was a problem. There were three dragons, and he was sure that he would need at least four or five arrows to take down one of the dragons. However he couldn't think about that, he had to focus on making sure that his arrows hit at least one dragon. They had to be young, they couldn't be fully grown at the size that they were.
The one dragon he had hit was charging towards him, and the other two seemed to be running, perhaps for help. His first arrow seemed to hit the dragon on one of it's wings, and the second in it's face. Both had done harm, but neither did what he needed. Neither of them killed the creature. He knocked another arrow and let it loose, the arrow not even coming close to hitting the dragon. He let another one free, again missing his target. He knocked his final one, knowing very well that if this one didn't kill the beast that it would be practically on top of him. Luckily he was able to strike it right in the heart with his final arrow and with that the dragon fell to the ground. He rushed over to get the dragon soul as quickly as he could, for he worried about the other two and the possibility that they would bring more dragons.
He placed it in his bag and hurried back home. He couldn't wait to show his mother the dragon soul he had collected. That was proof that he had slayed one of the beast. His brother killed only one dragon his first try, he remembered now, so now they were even once more. Soon he would catch up to Peralian and the jealous he felt towards his brother would go far away, just where he wanted it.
