Keke loved the fresh air of the coastal forest. It smelled clean and pregnant with the promise of adventures: past, present, and future. Vazarri had told him to come this way, and he had, following her adventure because – he had decided – it was her day for an adventure. So often, he led the charge. It was her turn, and he would follow where he led.

It was just nice that it led to the coast. He helped her navigate town the rocks to the beach – a tricky climb that he knew how to do with ease. Would they collect shells? Would they fish? Would she explain what she meant by a land that the sun did not touch? All were exciting prospects.

“We're here!” he crooned, melodiously, looking out at the endless, churning expanse of water. Beyond that horizon lay foreign places with strange, new things to explore and investigate. “What now?”

Right as he said that, though, a strange sight caught his gleaming green eye: a wooden structure of some sort, standing over the water like a multi-legged, squat, flat beast of some sort, cooling its heels in the water. Another structure sat nearby, seemingly floating on the water and bound with some sort of coiled vine to the other structure, like a parasite. “Ooo..” he hissed softly, “Whats that?!”

There was magescian scent in the air... and other things.

The trip to the sea had taken days, a disturbingly long time for an untried Orakoir. Especially one who was constantly looking over her shoulder- not for dragons or other predators, but for her father. If Samael returned while they were gone, he would set out immediately. he was bigger, stronger, quicker... And Vazarri feared that he would find them before they made it to the water's edge. He'd find them, bundle them up in his claws and cart them straight back home. Then what would become of her adventure?

Nothing.

She couldn't allow that to happen. And when the soft sand of the beach finally grit its way between her claws, she felt relief. Relief and frustration that she'd have to spend hours preening later. "We made it this far," she whispered softly, half in disbelief. But this was good. Grand, even. Although... from here she had no idea where to go. She needed to cross this ocean. The time they spent on Eowyn was merely the first leg of the journey. Much more ground needed to be covered.

As Keke nosed the direction of some water-bound structures, Vazarri followed his gaze. One of them was floating. Floating right atop the water, gently rocking in time with the waves. She turned to her brother, tail snapping through the air. "Let's go see!" She decided, prancing off with delicate hops to keep sand from scattering everywhere. She held herself high, tail aloft and wings fanned as she bounded toward the floating wooden... thing.

As she neared, it seemed to get larger. Large enough for a two-legger to stand on, maybe! Or perhaps even bigger than that... the two orakoi neared the edge of the dock, a wooden structure that jutted out to meet the floating contraption. Scattered along its length were two-leggers, hustling about carrying things, tying things, eating things, beating things, Zarri noted as a burly man bludgeoned a type of fish she'd never seen before.

Tentativly she extended a claw to rest her weight about the dock. It showed no sign of wavering. With a nudge to Keke's shoulder, she slowly climbed further.

Well she was interested, he was interested: clearly they had to take a look. He bounded after her, sand swirling in his wake. He was fast: he could make it to the edge of the forest in less than an afternoon, let alone a day, but this was the coast, and he'd had to help Vazarri out besides. He did not, of course, mind: he was the one that knew the mountains like the back of his paws.

As they approached, his first thought was that the structure was huge – huge enough to carry the teeming mass of magescians that infested the shore around it.

Keke had never seen so many magescians in one place before, all doing things. “Whoa...” he whispered, edging closer, “What is this?”

“Oi! Khehora!” came a shout. A woman – smelling of a confused mixture of Orderite, Oblivionite, sweat, and grime, pointed a bow at the two of them.

The cry was taken up along the docks, and soon the workers – dressed in rough, soiled clothing that they had likely made themselves – rallied, wary, weapons at the very least ready.

“What are you two after? You here to do business, or not?” she said, watching them with dark -sclera'd eyes, “If its business, yer welcome. If it ain't, shoo.”

Keke was delighted. “I don't know!” he chirped up, without thinking, “What sort of business do you do?”

“Trade.” said the woman, “You have goods or what?”

The scent of Magescians, coupled with a mixture of stale, sour smells, and salty, grimy overtones pierced through wind like an arrow. With a grimace, Zarri shook her head, clamping her mouth shut to keep it from creeping in any farther. "It's really gross..." She hissed softly to Keke as a two-legged woman whipped out a bow to point at them. Within moments she was joined by several others, all wielding their strange two-legger weapons, all smelling of vile, rotting fish poison.

Clearly, they were beneath her. She didn't have to explain herself to them, and she didn't expect her brother too either!

She straightened herself to glower at the woman. "Goods?" Zarri quipped, her tail flicking as she cocked her head to the side. With a huff, she stretched out her frame, rising to her full height and fanning her wings. "I am the greatest good you will ever come across! What more do you need?" She splayed her claws across the wooden dock and snorted out indignantly, "As compensation for my presence, you will... You will- um- Take me on your floating beast and ferry me to Soudul! Oh, and my brother, also."

There was certainly a strong smell, Keke had to agree there, but...

He glanced at his sister. "Wait." he whispered, surprised; "We're going to Soldul?!" So her adventure was finally revealed, and it was unexpected. Completely unexpected. Soldul... that was far away... So far away. "Are you sure?"

He turned back to the woman as she spoke, intrigued but wary.

The woman laughed. "You certainly are." she said, "And yer feathers and skin will fetch a nice price, wouldn't they boys? Such a subtle color. That aside from your khehora parts. Horns, bones, blood, wings... all good selling."

Keke didn't like where this was going. He growled, the sand answering his emotions and swirling about them as he moved forward and arching his wings protectively around her. "I won't let you harm my sister." he said, baring his teeth, "I'll bite you before I do."

"Well." said the woman, smirking. It was clear that she thought she and her crew could take on an uppity khehora and his sister, and they probably could. They definitely could. "If passage is what you're after, and you want an alternative to becoming goods yourselves, find something to pay me with. I'm not unreasonable." Her crew rumbled with restrained laughter - apparently that was somewhat of a joke with them. The only one that did not laugh was the one standing straight, tall and watchful behind her.

"Ma. They are too big. We'd get more for their parts." he murmured, enough to be heard by the two khehora.

"Nonsense." she said, "Repeat business is better, and besides: we trade with khehora, what do you think they'd think if we just sold their bits everywhere? Not well, I bet."

"What do you want." said Keke, holding back a snarl.

"Well, since you're clearly new to this." she said, "I'm after metal. Shiny metal. Its called gold. We magescians..." she chortled, "Love it, don't we boys." a nod of agreement, "So if you find a nice chunk, you've got passage. Rare stuff works too: rare plants, especially." she smirked, "So if you find me something suitable, I'll take you to the dark land."

Right. She hadn't told Keke. Not that she thought he'd mind, of course! After all, it was something she wanted, and it was a rare day when her brother didn't do everything in his power to fulfill all of her wishes... Usually her wishes were a little less... extravagant, but still! It was Keke! He'd do anything! He was a good brother! Still, when she heard the hesitance in his voice, asking her if she was sure, if she knew what she really wanted, her dark gaze flickered over to him, waveringly. She'd thought so. It was far away, and the trip would be daunting and maybe she wouldn't find anything, but... "I have to," she murmured. Because even trying to find Daddy was better than letting him live sadly alone forever.

First they had to get across the sea. And these people had the means they needed! Even if... even if the woman was smelly and ugly and threatening to rip her glorious feathers from her body. Of course they'd 'fetch a nice price!' They were under Vazarri's very dutiful care! Alas, she wasn't willing to part with them, or her skin, of her horns, or her bones to get across the ocean... Keke seemed concerned over the crew's words, but Zarri carelessly huffed and tossed her head to the side. Those empty threats! They wouldn't dare touch her or Keke! Both Daddy and Pappy were so powerful that even from far away people would know not to mess with his children! Zarri was sure of it.

The only problem was... If not with her body, she'd need to find another way to secure passage. She thought for sure they'd just feel grateful to have her along, but they were so scuzzy, the crew probably didn't realize what an asset she was to have aboard.

No, they wanted something else... "Gold," Zarri repeated, staring at the woman through unblinking eyes. "or something else of value to a two-legger."

The woman nodded. "So if you don't got it, scram. And don't expect to cross until you find some!"

Vazarri turned on her heel, giving a dismissive flick of her tail. Find some gold or a nice plant... With a 'harumph!' she trotted down from the dock. "Keke, let's go!" She called after her brother. "We're going to find something better than gold..."

You start the next one

Keke kept a watchful eye on the twoleggers. His sister wanted to go all the way to Soldul... fine. But he was not letting her do so at the cost of either of their lives.

He walked away, following behind her, very aware of the weapons pointed at them and the fact that, powerful father or not, they were very much alone. He looked back periodically until they were out of sight.

“If you're sure about this.” he said, more serious than usual, “Then we'll look for something.” he nodded, “Better than gold.”
