Magnolia pushed up the window above her bed, the dried paint crackling at the sides as she took in a breath of the cool night air. Glancing up, she watched in acquiesce even when Rho climbed up onto the pane to accompany her in enjoying the view. Suddenly, she let out a forlorn sigh, and rested her chin into the palm of her hand with a murmur beneath her breath.
"It's a pity that, even in Motterossa where it's so quiet, we still can't see the stars..."
To the fourteen year old, the view appeared naked; the bright speckles of warm orange and yellow from homes beneath her blanching out the light she wanted to see most. Rho tilted his head, pursing his lips solemnly. It was hard determining how long it'd been since Altais left their company. But since then, the lavender-haired adventurer pined for him; though she kept to herself, suffering in secret. Every night, just after the sun had set and the tranquility of the mountain town bloomed forth, Magnolia would hang her head out of the window and stare to the heavens above, wordless and seemingly tired. And, as always, Rho would join her and sit at her side until she let out a yawn and crawled beneath the blanket with him. It was the only way he knew how to show support, but even the Glameow knew what she wanted he could not provide.
There was only one soul she wanted to see and that, currently, was an impossibility. Altais could not return -- left to slumber for a millennia in the Kesfas Mountains. But, despite his reservations, Rho was willing to put aside his disgust for the wishmaker if seeing him would make his trainer smile again. She seemed to lost without him.

Rho blinked when Magnolia snaked an arm over him and suddenly pulled his entire body onto her chest. He mewled in distraught apprehension, thinking she was joking with him, but when no amused chuckles rose up from her tiny bosom, the Glameow stopped fighting her and studied her thoroughly. She had shut her eyes and pressed her cheek into the warmth of his neck, cradling him as if he were an infant. Slowly, the feline let himself grow limp, and grumbled to himself internally for his easygoing heart as his trainer rocked him back and forth.
Suddenly, she professed, "I miss him so much, Rho... So, so much..."
The Glameow averted his eyes, having guessed that ages ago.
"I know I'm being selfish... I know I'm being unfair... I was unfair then and I'm being unfair now, but I want him back... He was such a good friend, Rho..."
<Where does that leave me?> he wondered to himself. <I'm here for you, aren't I? Have been half your entire life...>
"He could be such a jerk sometimes..." A small hiccup. "But he cared, I know he did..."
<Hey, I care. I don't mean to come off as catty, but he's only caused trouble for you, y'know...>
"It's not fair..."
<You're right, it isn't. Why does he get favorites when I've tried so hard to cheer you up? You're being unfair.>

Prying herself from the feline, Magnolia studied him again, and pinched her lips when she realized the Glameow had grown quite doleful. Setting him free from her grasp, she pushed herself away from the window and headed for the blankets.
"Let's just get some sleep, Rho," she told him, "I'm sure I'll feel better in the morning."
Rho thought with a roll of his eyes beneath his closed lips after curling up at the foot of the bed.
Sliding under the comforter's warmth, Magnolia turned her head toward Motterossa's sky and stared at it until slumber overcame her. Her dreams were aimless; muggy images flashing through her mind's eye of all of the moments of her life. She recognized each moment when they slipped by, but as soon as she awakened, she'd forget everything. But this dream seemed more vivid then the rest, and something she never wanted to forget, because it began with her waking to reality come a gentle, familiar voice:
"Hey, are you awake?"

Her eyelids fluttered open as the voice gently insisted for her to wake up. Groaning from having been awakened from a deep sleep, Magnolia rose to sitting and turned her eyes over to the windowsill where the voice was heard. What she saw had her mystified and starstruck at the same time. It was Altais, wide-eyed and livid, but he glowed with an odd, ethereal quality as if were not of this world. The fourteen year old's mouth dropped open as she tried to comprehend the flood of relief, disbelief, and happiness that overcame her. The Jirachi's gentle smile that was given to her, as if he could read the endless amount of thoughts on her face, provoked a few tears from her ducts.
"Oh, Altais!" she cried, launching herself forward and throwing her arms about the legendary. "Oh Arceus, it's you! It's really you!"
The wishmaker chuckled against the warmth of her shoulder. "Yes, yes, it's me, it's me," he reassured her. "I'm sorry I've left you alone for so long, Magnolia."
Sniffling, the fourteen year old pushed herself back from the Jirachi and remarked, "But... But that day, when I returned you to the mountain... Everything went white... You weren't with me and when I went back, I couldn't find the place where you were... Was all of that just a dream?"
Altais thinned his lips. "I'm sorry to say, no, it wasn't a dream, Magnolia," he replied, "I'm still there, slumbering... And I will be for the next thousand years. But I heard everything... How you cried for me, how you wished to see me again... I couldn't just leave you be because... I missed you too."

"But I can't stay," Altais said. "I only have enough energy for one thing."
"I..."
"Will you spend it with me, Magnolia?"
"Of... O-of course!" she cried. "Any more memories with you is... all I could ask for..."
The Jirachi smiled. "Take my hand," he said, offering his down to her. "I want to show you something."
Tentatively, Magnolia touched her fingers down to the offered limb. Suddenly, a flash of white filled her gaze. She shut her pink eyes against the blare and, when she opened them, the fourteen year old found herself suspended high above Zatao, higher than the sky, and eventually, even higher than the world. She stared down to the aqua planet known as her home and felt a spill of tears rise from her eyes. It was absolutely beautiful.
"Altais..." she said. "It's... It's gorgeous."
"Turn around," he said.
Glancing around, Magnolia withheld the gasp in her throat. Arcing over the slope of the Earth was a wide band of stars that glittered in her watered-over eyes. The trainer hugged her hands to her bosom and found herself so entranced, she was at a loss for words.
"The Milky Way..." she muttered.
"This is what I dream of," Altais said. "I see this and so much more, but nothing compares to the beauty of this little planet. This is the one memory I wanted to show you most, Magnolia. This stardust trail."
The girl shut her eyes as a wibbling smile encompassed her face. "I couldn't have asked for a better gift," she said. "Thank you so much, Altais."

When Altais's power waned, Magnolia was again met with a flash of white, and returned to the bed she was once in, fast asleep as the scene faded into her memory like a dream. A moment later, Rho stirred, and rose with a yawn. He glanced to the window knowingly and, when he hopped up onto the ledge, he came upon the sight of a familiar figure seated on the outside. Forcing the pane up with a paw, a whisk of the night's cool air wafted into his face as he took the seat next to the Jirachi.
Yawning again, he looked to Altais, and said, ""
"I know," the Jirachi replied. "I can't go back to sleep. Can't ever. What Team Galactic did to me ruined my chances of ever returning to my hibernation. That thing back at the mountains only gave me energy, that's it." He let out a wistful sigh. "I can't let Magnolia know that, though. If I did, I would just cause her more trouble."
""
Altais chuckled. "I've had a good, long time to think about our time together. You were right this whole time, you stupid cat. All I ever was was trouble to her. So don't worry, I'll keep my distance."
Rho huffed. ""
"Just... do one thing for me, okay?"
The Glameow tilted his head.
"Protect her, okay? She's too good of a human to be hurt."
Rho snorted. "" he said. ""
"Yea, yea..."
Pushing himself from where he stood, Altais floated into the night sky. Offering Rho a smile, he said, "Well, I guess there isn't much I can do here, right? I've made amends, so now the world's my oyster..."
The feline tried to show disinterest, but when he flicked a side-eye to the legendary, he couldn't help but ask, ""
Altais shrugged. "I don't know," he replied. "Maybe go back to enjoying my time, maybe save another human girl from Mightyenas." His joke provoked only a small chuckle from himself. "Guess I'll see you around never, yea?"
Rho thinned his lips. "" he said, turning about and entering back into Magnolia's hotel room. Before he jumped down onto her bed, he added, ""
Altais's face fell blank at the sudden concern from the Glameow. An amused smile curved on his features as he said, "Of course," before disappearing into the night.
