What are you doing to help new and existing Gaian's keep up with inflation? New Gaian's: We are in the process of improving the Gaian experience for new and old players alike. Currently, we are working on balancing existing systems to make Gaia even more newbie friendly than it is now.
Existing Gaian's: We are aware of the inflation issue on Gaia, and are doing everything we can to address and resolve this important issue. Although we are unable to remove Gold Chance Items completely from La Victoire, we've taken steps to lessen the amount of Gold Chance CIs in the shop at once, as well as re-balancing the items.
Our long term goal is simple: we plan on revamping existing systems such as GoFusion and some of the mini games (e.g. Smashblox) to enable Gaians to use their gold to obtain exclusive items available only in these features. These features, once completely revamped, will allow Gaians to either use Gold or Gaia Cash to participate. Our main priority is to focus on our economy and address it accordingly, so that will work in tandem with gold generators.

3 I love that we are bringing tickets back, especially mini ones so that artists don't get too caught up with the re-release. I do however, wonder if you would be able to go back to release item rigs with the tickets. I LOVE that there is a choice between gold and gems, however not everyone wants gems and it gets kind of boring. I think having the option for items included would mean more people play the rigs as they would be playing for the items as well as the tickets and would mean a drop in prices for said items as well.

Paying with promises of future items (selling the rights to an alchemy wing formula, for example) have been established as against the rules, but some people are using this premise to buy golden/rainbow/platinum/etc tickets - ie "donating" tickets to a friend, in exchange for ownership rights to the final created item. 9 out of 10 copies of the item they make. Basically selling the ticket in exchange for future return of the ticket's created items. Does this not violate the same rules that forbid us from selling the rights to formulas? If so, will you take any steps to prevent people from exploiting this in the future, and how?
After 1337gate you mentioned there will be a change to internal policy. Mind letting us know what exactly those changes were? For transparency sake, since that whole debacle was a huge blow to the community.
We'd have to take a closer look at this situation before we make a policy, but a general rule of thumb is that you cannot sell something on the premise of "promising" to return something later or sell something that you do not currently have.
Basically, we won't be doing it again and items have to be purchased with gold you legitimately obtained through using the site.

Is it possible to stack items in trades? I was about to buy a whole bunch of Torii's Gate's CI's last night. I didn't, but anyway. When I was about to, I noticed only 12 of those CI's would fit into one trade, and I was going to be buying 100+ of these. I wouldn't have been able to complete all the trades last night had I actually bought them all. I feel like in cases like this it well help to have all the items stacked so the process is quick and easy.
Hmm, yeah that would be a problem. We'll take a look at how much work this would be.
This came to mind last week, but would it be possible to update the Wishlist section of the Marketplace so that it shows the LBP of the items instead of the ABP? This would make it so that users can know for certain if an item is within their Gold range, as there are listings these days that do not follow the ABP, and are often high above it or below it, making the ABP an unreliable means of determining if one can obtain an item on their Wishlist.
Yeah stuff like this will be stuff we will definitely look at when we next update the marketplace system. There are quite a few changes we'd like to make.

This was asked three times in some form at the last ATS and was not answered at any point. (It was not asked by me but I was watching with interest. [/creeper])
So: in reference to the very first ATS, why can't gold generators be removed? Will removing them break the site beyond repair? I understand that they're here to stay and I'm not arguing for you to remove them. The majority of us don't like them**, no, but it seems that, as a user-base, we're reaching a tentative peace with their existence. So gold generators aren't leaving, great... but why?
I apologize if this comes across as offensive, as that was by no means my intent, but I am genuinely curious as to your response. Thanks in advance for any insight you offer!

The concise answer to this is that we continue to put gold chance items in our store because they continue to be a popular product among our Gaians who are generous enough to monetarily support to us. Above all else, our goal is to make sure we have the resources to keep this place alive and kicking for many many years to come! To do this, we must release items that are popularly purchased in our store.

I purchased an item from the market place that said it had a chance at winning a Special Item, or other random items. Only to find out after i purchased it that the item i bought was no longer valid. No where did it say before I spent A LOT of my gold that the item i was purchasing was no longer viable. PLEASE change this in the marketplace so that timed items can't be sold after the event is up, or put in the market description This event ended and will no longer grant anything. All i did was hand my gold to someone because i thought it was a VALID ITEM and it wasnt.
I would nbot have spent my money on this item had i known it was an empty item. How do i get my money back?

Items Another thing I've found that's absolutely annoying, is how you can only send twelve items at a time Via trade, especially if your trying to send a person a large quantity of items at the same time. Let me give you an Example. Let's say I have 22 Graveyard Shifts. They're all piled up nice and neat in a little stack in my Invo, all 22 of them so they're not all Over the place. Now, I want to send these 22 Graveyard Shifts to a friend of mine on here as a gift. The problem with this though is, I have to do two separate trades, which takes a lot of time, especially because I can only send that person one trade at a time. My question is, would it be possible for you guys to fix the trades so that you have the option of sending a person a large group of the same type of item in a single trade?
We are currently looking into allowing Gaians to trade more than 12 at a time. We will be reviewing this and will let everyone know what the status will be

This doesn't really add anything important anymore, before it used to show item previews when that wasn't a feature of marketplace, but now most items do not get previews and if they do it's only for a single pose and isn't actually helpful, nor does the item preview have the same options that the preview in the marketplace itself.
It's interesting when items were released, that much I do enjoy of the page, but overall the page just looks old and there's not too much function, especially considering most items are for both genders and so many items are being released with gaia cash and you don't need to know what store it's from.
It would speed up gifting considerably.

This is a lot more difficult than it might sound. The problem with locking specific items is that it relies heavily on the user not doing anything with the item they get. It gets a little complicated, so the best solution is actually locking down trades in general. However, we are committed to ensuring that when we do disable a user's trade, we resolve the issue sooner rather than later which is a change in how we did things years ago.

In the last few AtS sessions, Narumi's been giving answers that make it sound like you're actively gathering ideas for your next update / overhaul of the Marketplace system. That being the case, I wanted to offer a suggestion for a possible Marketplace feature, regarding the price graphs. Take a look at these Marketplace graphs I screenshotted:
I despise when this happens, and it happens far too often. One obviously uncharacteristic sale effectively destroys all other data by forcing the vertical scale of the graph to be so large that all other data points are functionally identical. These graphs tell me absolutely nothing worth knowing.
I'd like to request an optional display mode for the Market Price graphs; you might call it an Outlier Removal mode. When this mode is active, the code that generates the graphs would react to an ABP that's at least 1,000 times that of the previous day by ignoring that day's ABP and the next two when calculating the graph's vertical scale. Then, when displaying the Market Price graph, any data point that's beyond the graph's vertical scale would just display as a red mark or line at the top of the graph, to indicate an ABP that is literally off the charts.
Feel free to tweak, of course. Just conserve the basic idea; prevent one obvious outlier from rendering the Market Price graph totally useless until a full month passes and the outlier gets scrolled off the graph. (If a sudden bizarre jump in price actually stabilizes, this mode as I've described it would not block that data because it only blocks the initial skyrocket and the next two days, and then only from vertical scale calculation.)

Could you raise the gold fees related to the guilds? It strikes me as the perfect permanent gold sink, as mentioned here, and all fees related to them are practically on the status of 'you're not paying any gold for this stuff.' 2,500g for a sub-forum is nothing at all now, and as I'm not one who normally buys items, I wouldn't mind my gold being sunk into buying features for guilds 3nodding Between the gold generators and boosted pay-outs for Daily Chance and Pink Links, I have a LOT of gold sitting there doing nothing ^^; It'd be a perfect chance to update them, too, without involving GC! smile

There is a glitch in the Marketplace where two Cream Marionettes show up, is this going to be fixed anytime soon? It's been there for quite a while now.
This is interesting- the glitch is created by the item having 2 item IDs. We can't fix this because it would destroy items in inventories if we were to erase/replace one listing.

This question deals with upping the shop price on selling back fish.
The fish currently have extremely low sell-back prices. This was ok way back in the day. But now that everything costs a whole lot more, these sell-back prices should be increased as well. Fishing is one of the easier ways for new people to earn gold, but now that the prices aren't matching the economy at all anymore there really isn't any point in even touching the game unless you're in it for alchemy, winning trophies, or trying to get both Angelic rods. Even then it's still debatable because our profits from the game are so tiny...
Examples of how low our sell-backs to the shops are. Not putting every single fish up here, but with just a small list you'll get the general idea.
Seedkins are - 7 gold Pebbo Feeders are - 11 gold Guppies are - 3 gold Bass are - 8 gold Stripers are - 13 gold Tunas are - 17 gold Koi are - 8 gold Goldfish are - 3 gold
See... I think it's time to increase the prices so we can actually make a decent profit here.

Users have decided to list their items cheaper! S'all there really is to it. We do not directly control what users can sell items for on the marketplace, so it will be up to them to decide what they want to sell it for.
I think a lot of users would be happy to have the chance to sell more than 20 items at a time in their store.
It's a possibility for the future!

It's something we have thought about it, but we haven't decided to implement. Users should be able to list an item for whatever amount they want, most of the time when a user sets a price for a super high amount it typically doesn't get purchased. Most users who price items for incredibly high prices are doing it to show off the item, rather than trying to sell it.

I realize it's been an issue for a while (I was personally a victim to it a few years ago and didn't even think about reporting it), but now with the extreme raise of item prices, it could pose a serious problem with scamming, both intentionally and unintentionally.
A seller could link a buyer to the listing with a higher ABP and/or no LBP, while in reality, the item may have several listings in the Marketplace at a cheaper price.
Is there any way you can fix this issue or consider looking into it again (if it was indeed already pointed out before) ?
And should someone consider themselves a "victim of scamming" due to this issue, would we report it?

It boils down to the Marketplace only recognizing item IDs, as opposed to item names. There may be multiple items with the same name but have different IDs, as you point out. We'll take a look into this and see what we can do to address it.
If a user feels that there was a user that maliciously tricked them into being scammed, they can file a scam report with evidence showing that the user had the intent to scam you. Otherwise they can file a Help Center ticket and we can look into reversing the transaction if it was an accident.

I like bidding on Flynn's Plunder, but there are some items that just dominate her store, like game items for example. Is there anyway that other NPCs could get in on the action? Specifically Mirai and Barret with their fish and decorations, Crecento with formulas and rare components, and Bildeau with rare housing items?
My idea on this goes beyond just those three NPCs, I've got a whole NPC auction house planned out.
We usually add a large amount of a singular, or group, of items when we see requests from the users asking for them. However, we'll be moving more toward a random set of items in future Flynn's Plunder.
Are there any plans to increase the gold earned from posting in the forums and voting in polls? That used to be my main way of making gold since flash areas make my computer lag. The amounts earned are so tiny it doesn't even make a difference anymore.

Items Hi, I posted this in the last ATS but I didn't get an answer. I love doing Alchemy and I'm trying to complete a Backwing formula. But I'm stuck, because I can't afford to pay the very expensive/inflated prices for the required items. For example the items Royal Crown Blue, White Body Dye and Diamondback Lion are really ridiculously expensive. Only a few can afford to buy them. I bought some GC items to sell in the marketplace, but I'm not even close I still need many many many billions of gold to be able to buy just one of the items. I really wish to complete at least one Backwing formula. The Backwing formulas are just as expensive, maybe you can add them and all other rare Alchemy items (or at least some) in Daily Chance, in Towns, in GoFusion or in the Alchemy shop? We need more ways to get them, without having to spend many many many billions of gold and cash.
I've heard about others trying to do their Backwing quests, but are stuck too because of the very expensive/inflated prices. So I'm not the only one, and there are many others who can't get to level 10 Alchemy because they find it confusing and very expensive. It would be much more fair if you for example removed the gold requirement to complete each formula, so many others can complete their formulas, without losing more gold. So my question is, can you make it more beginner-friendly to do Alchemy? Can you make all the Backwing items and all the rare Alchemy items affordable or at least easier to get, like in Daily Chance? I know it should be challenging because it's a Backwing quest, but challenging is always free and fun, not expensive and not impossible. Many wants to craft and complete the Backwing formulas, but that is impossible now because they are way too expensive (many many many billions) and too rare now.

Hi SnowLuva, the Backwing quest is an arduous one. It is meant to be very difficult and require mastery of many aspects of the site, including fishing, bug hunting and more. There are some elements that are confusing and difficult, and we are attempting to iron out this experience. We will be offering some Cache's with more Backwing elements in them as well as ways to obtain the recipes besides limited Cash Shop releases through Gold Shops and GoFusion. You've now updated the inventory, and shops and a few other things. I would like to ask... will you be updating the TRADING feature, with how many items there are in gaia now compared to when I first joined in 2004 the difference is immense.... being able to trade more then 12 items would be fantastic.... this feature would be useful in auctions (yes people sometimes use in excess of 12 items to bid on art etc) as well as moving items from one account that you own to another ...

Yes, this was asked before and we do intend to increase the trade cap. The limit was due to old system limitations which no longer exist.

Anyway, when can we start doing more kickstarters to raise the gold shop prices? We still have plenty of shops to go through and it's been a couple of months since we raised Edmund's shop... It's not really fair to only raise one gold shop then forget about the rest. Besides we need the gold sinks desperately.

I have a trade with another user that was opened at about the time the inventory arranger was released, and now whenever either of us tries to either complete or cancel the trade, we get the message "Database Error There was an error cancelling the trade. serial_not_in_owner_location". Normally I would think it was a problem with one of our accounts, but both of us are also able to do trades with other people, we just have that one trade sitting there blocking trades between us.
I also noticed that we are NOT the only ones having this problem.
Is this something that is being addressed?

Where are you seeing this error? What are you doing when you get it?
This is a result of the "cloned" items created in the inventory arranger. When some one clones an item, they click the "Sell in Marketplace" link. It creates a false sale. You can't buy the item, but it shows up in the MP. Also, the person who is doing the selling can't remove the sale.
Hmmm, that would be quite the problem. I'll make sure the team is aware.

Sometimes when you're in the marketplace and you're looking at an item, lets say "Ocean Summer Top" it says: "You own this item" in bold, under the item description. I was wondering if you guys could add "This item is on your wishlist" or something similar to that so we can know if a certain item is on our wishlist already. Because sometimes I end up adding the same item to it a couple of times per month.

So I received one of those nifty ad grants a few weeks ago and it looks like, based on the picture, it will be granting gold, charms, or possibly Gaia Cash. (Based on the Bug Reports, this is in teeny tiny increments of 1 Gaia Cash.) As I'm sure you're all well aware, I'm a tad anti-gold generator. I was wondering: is there a chance that these ad grants will be releasing items, too? That would be wonderful! I see nothing wrong with charms (love them, in fact) and am on the fence about the inclusion of Gaia Cash, but it would be nice to see some new free items rather than just having gold thrown in my face. Frankly, I miss the days when we could get Mimzy or even those elemental handheld things without really having to do much but hang around.
Personally, I bought something from Loyal's with the gold that I received and put it in the dumpster for someone else to find because I won't have anything to do with that nonsense. The inclusion of items is just a thought, though. It's not that I don't appreciate the return of the ad grants or anything, because I do, it's just that I thought that it would be nice to receive items, as well, and the little grant picture wasn't as clear on that as it was on the other aspects.

Question: Could you please make a way for us to edit prices listed in our stores?
The best way to approach this is to cancel the listing. Reason being is once the listing is up and people see it for a certain price that is what the person is expecting to pay. Allowing edits of live listings could results in situations where a person clicks on the item at one price and before they complete the transaction they get charged something completely different.

Dumpster Dive Separation This is really just a suggestion that I've been thinking about a lot. I'm sure whoever cleans out the Philosopher's Caches on your staff has noticed how quickly the dumpster gets filled with them. I once complained about them, but I rescinded my original complaint as those people who like Alchemy on the site do use them, so I understand their value. However, when the dumpster is filled with the caches, it essentially eliminates the prospect of getting anything else whatsoever for sometimes more than a full day. So my suggestion is, maybe make a separate Alchemy-focused dump? If this is not a viable suggestion, what are you plans for handling this problem? Are you just going to continue to let other, and sometimes potentially valuable items, be constantly shadowed by the caches? This is not a criticism, more the opinion of a web-designer who is curious as to your thoughts on the potential for improvement here.
From a web design standpoint I'm not sure this is an implementation problem. The design of the system was to let people trash what they want, and people can claim what has been trashed. That part is working just fine. I think the problem is more a social one of "dumping etiquette" (does that even exist?) Regardless, no changes are planned to create a sister system for separate item types.

Features Ok is it possible to change the countdown for auctions? Maybe when you get outbid toward the end instead of adding another minute to just let people bid it out to the end and the faster person wins? It gets frustrating sometimes when you get into an hour long auction battle with someone.
Though I can understand the frustration especially an hour of bidding X_X No matter what solution is come up with they will each have advantages and disadvantages. For the moment, no changes are planned.

Can the graphs in the Marketplace be altered to either include all the zeros for items in the billions+, preferably with commas, or have the segments labeled like 1mil-10mil-20mil, 100bil-150bil-200bil? I have a lot of trouble making out how much the fancier items have cost over time because sometimes prices are cut off.

So I see you started adding the Pawstamp tag to animal items (we love it!) how goes this process and when/where can we recommend items that are missing said tag? example: the entire X-mas paw sets (12 days and caroling) don't have the "Pawstamp" tag
I'm glad you noticed (and love) the new tag! emotion_kirakira Right now we're still going through the process of adding everything retroactively with the pawstamp tag. If the paw community would like to start a list with a simple thread in SF or the Paws forum and quote me (or PM me the link), I will gladly pass it onto the art team, subscribe to it myself, and try to make sure everything gets tagged properly.

Some of us have say 24gcash left and have nothing to use it on... maybe say you trade in 24 and you get 24bil or 2.4bil... i think it would encourage people to buy more gcash... i mean if i got 1000 gcash and got 100bil from it i would totally buy more gcash.

Work with other users to encourage them to spend their gold on gold sink events, lower the price of items they are selling on the Marketplace, and spend their gold on various other items, games, and features! Spend that gold. Spend spend spend!
Features Would it at all be possible to raise the wishlist cap? I currently have most of my wishlist in my journal, images and links, after having hit the cap, but due to the character limit it's 4 entries long by now and a big hassle to keep up with; I can imagine with how many items come out each day I'm not the only one running into this problem! Increasing the max wishlist size would make it so much easier to keep up~

Have you considered getting Gaians to tag items rather than staff? Currently there are quite a few items which aren't really tagged well. And staff is always busy, so it would be great if we could do it ourself.. More details behind spoiler
Tagging item system suggestion - Crowd-sourcing
For now, we can find items that we do not own in several ways a) via someone's equipped list b) search function in MP/dressup c) tektek or by threads if the item is new
Problem: We can't always find the item. Or we don't know it exists because search fails.
Current status: 1. Tags on items inconsistent/incomplete e.g. some have colors, some have just the name, some names' links are broken, some have the features (like scarf, glasses, etc) 2. Tags are tagged in headquarters as the item is released.
Suggested: Implement a system where Gaians can help to tag the item à la Wikipedia's crowdsourcing.
How? 1) Via Inventory (for those who own the item) When you click on an item, add 2 additional buttons 'Suggest Tag' and 'Vote Tag'. Suggest Tag would allow you to enter in free form text with tags separated by commas. Duplicated suggestions would count as a vote for that suggestion. Vote Tag would give a list of suggested tags sorted by ranking - you can either Like or Dislike the tag. Once a tag amasses 30 (Likes minus Dislikes), it will automatically be added to the list of tags on the item. If it falls below this number, it will be removed. 2) Via marketplace (for everyone) Similar to via inventory method, but with a higher threshold for the number of people liking it to prevent mischief. 3) Via tag assistants (appointed by Gaia) Wherein these people can add tags without going through the voting system. 4) Tag Liaisons (appointed by Gaia) Where if a tag does not work for some strange reason (just try searching 'Beyond') they are able to escalate technical difficulties to the developers.
I would think that the voting system would work well for items that are older, and tag assistants can keep up with new items.
This is a good idea and is something we had been considering. The problem was of course how to ensure that the tags being input were legit. I think this is totally worth revisiting, especially with how quickly we release items.

Modern Merry Miko doesn't show up (MP/Customize Avatar search) when using the full name because "merry" isn't one of its included tags - could this possibly be fixed?
Can we maybe get the ability to wishlist game items? For example being able to wishlist the rare fish needed for wing crafting, or inks needing for body dye crafting would be immensely helpful.
So many times I've gone to wishlist a game item only to remember with dismay I'm unable to.
We should be able to do these, we'll need to do a bit more investigation first.

Hi there thanks for the rather recent changes to the MP! I was wondering if there was any way for items that you already own ( in your inventory) Could be bolded in MP searches?
my reason for asking is that i'm a frequent peruser of teh mp and i frequently look for items in colors i don't have them in. when it comes down to it, it would save time when i'm looking through a set with items that have similar names to one another or other colors to simply have the ones in your inventory be bolded so you don't have to click through each one to see if you already have it.

Though this is a good idea, I'm not confident in the feasibility of it because to do this would mean we would need to load your inventory to view the marketplace. That operation would get costly very quickly.
