The sounds of battle faded to that of water lapping against the side of a broken cliff and the metallic smell of blood was replaced with the sweet aroma of the surrounding flora and the ocean. Pavement which had bit into her bruised skin with sharp debris smoothed into that of the upper landing of the polished marble staircase just outside the grand infirmary. It was cool to the touch, a sharp contrast to the arms that held her dearly just seconds ago.
Unlike back in Destiny where the citizens raged war under the cover of darkness, the light that enveloped her homeworld shone like a beacon of hope. Rays of sun wrapped her broken form in its warm embrace offering comfort in her last few moments.
Acrucis’ heart ached terribly, unable to cope with all she had sacrificed… all she had lost and for what? Those she cared for with all her heart were gone; some dead while others she had not heard from in some time. Lord…Tears clouded her vision turning her home into an array of color before spilling down the side of her face “I’m scared.” she admitted aloud, then closed her eyes.
Spend all your time waiting
for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
Never could she forget the look on Phacts face, an image that had forever burned itself in the back of her mind as she stared unblinking into the Senshi of Doves calculating red eyes that looked upon her with a gaze of unfamiliarity which had left Acrucis in a state of disbelief for several days after watching her friend turn her back and answer the call of the General Queen. So much did she wish it was some elaborate facade, that she found herself praying that the raven haired senshi which stood loyally beside Kazenite was someone else; anyone but her beloved sister.
Words once spoken out of necessity having followed a distressed sigh replayed in such clarity Acrucis had to wonder if someone were there beside her. ”If only all of them could say they have the grace of winning the favor of someone such as your guardian. Maybe then things could have been different. But we aren’t all that lucky, are we? Some of us get thrown to the wolves and have to pray we find a way to keep going and stay alive.” Red eyes turned to look at her and in them she saw a look of helplessness.
Was that it? Were you trying to stay alive? She couldn’t help but wonder as her lower lip trembled and she struggled to swallow the lump in her throat. Or was it something else? Lord please help me understand. Why… why did things have to happen this way?
Acrucis’ turned her head to the side slowly sending more tears cascading down the side of her face. Once more she opened her sapphire blue eyes and what she saw made her heart clench in her chest. Next to her, in the very spot she had laid mere moments ago was the corrupt Senshi of Doves with eyes closed and one arm reaching out towards her just as she had done before Kazenite lifted her broken body off the ground and teleported away. “Phact” she whispered weakly, struggling to reach out towards the phantom image of the raven haired senshi. Even as she lay here dying on her own homeworld, the Senshi of Prayer still felt the desire to to save her friend, to heal her wounds and seeing her whole once more. “Phact…” I’m here… A weak smile lifted the corners of her lips when her fingers passed through black gloved hands I’m right here...
There’s always some reason
to feel not good enough
to feel not good enough
The warmth of Phacts fingers faded, as did the memory of the senshi she had become only to be replaced by the hollow sound of boots walking towards her. One slow blink followed by another just enough to clear her vision so she may see who it was that now stood where the wounded senshi had been laying. Weary eyes lifted from the wood textured boots to rest upon Thraen’s battle worn face.
She had long since lost count the number of times she had been on the receiving end of distrusting looks similar to the one he now wore. I thought I was doing the right thing Lord… Did you not ask us to love our enemies?
And it’s hard at the end of the day
It made her heart ache laying there exposed to the weight of those golden eyes and so Acrucis’ gaze drifted downward resting upon her blood covered hands. How many nights had she stayed awake tending to the injured? Hoping… praying that they would pull through.
Perhaps it was nothing more than a selfish desire to avoid having to deal with loss. Each life she had failed to save served as a harsh reminder of her shortcomings Would I’ve ever been strong enough to have made a difference? She wondered as a bitter laugh escaped her lips sending a sharp pain through her body followed by another fit of coughs.
Seconds felt like minutes as time passed and while her breathing became labored precious life blood seeped into her uniform and spread in a pool beneath her staining the marble stairway a deep crimson hue. That which had eluded her for so long wrapped her in its tender embrace as the weight of sleep tugged on her consciousness offering comfort in place of nightmares that often times plagued the senshi’s dreams startling her awake in a cold sweat.
I need some distraction
oh beautiful release
oh beautiful release
The sound of a sweet song gently caressed her senses like gentle waves caressing the sandy shore. Such a beautiful melody sung by a dear friend, calming like the onset of spring. Maia… How many years had it been since she last heard from the curly redhead senshi or her brother Shangri-La. The two that had saved her life after she had relapsed and cared for her in the months that followed. I miss you two so much.
Memories seep from my veins
Each attempt at blinking away the tears was a losing battle till she could no longer keep her eyes open and with each shallow breath she drew in, the pain in her lower abdomen flared to life, no less dulled by the passing of time.
I’m so cold.
It felt like a weighted shroud had been draped over her body as thoughts of Benitoite, her guardian… her protector, filled her mind from the first time they had met and he removed his cape, wrapping it around her shoulders to keep her warm. A friendship forged out of necessity as both sides waged war against their clones.
Beside the General King stood her brother, Dominic with that playful yet smug look on his face and in his hand he held onto his rubix cube. She never did learn how to solve it despite the number of time he had tried to teach her. Please Lord be with them and keep them safe.
Let me be empty
and weightless and maybe
I’ll find some peace tonight
and weightless and maybe
I’ll find some peace tonight
“Acrucis…”
Phact? She sounded near but how? Kazenite teleported away with the black dove cradled in her arms. Unless...
“You can sleep now.” A light breeze from the eastern sea stirred her periwinkle colored bangs much like the times when Delilah would run her fingers through her hair lovingly; reassurance that she was still there. “It’s okay.” Phact cooed softly and Senshi of Prayers fingers twitched slightly lacking the strength to raise her arm enough to take ahold of the gloved hand. “You’re not alone, I’m right here...”
The barest of smiles lifted the corners of Acrucis’ lips “Thank you.” she whispered softly upon her last breath. There was no more pain, no more sorrow as she gave into the growing need to finally sleep. To lay at rest all her worries and trust the Lord would watch over those who survived the war and stand beside those who still waited to be reunited with their loved ones.
In the arms of the angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
The skies above darkened with her last drawn breath and cried tears from the heavens, once more mourning the loss of its precious guardian. Save for a crack in the clouds haloing the fallen senshi in a ring of light.
You are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you’re in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here
of your silent reverie
you’re in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here
As the light closed in around her Sailor Phact spread her wings and took the form of a pristine white dove. Around her neck hung a gold cross necklace with a sapphire blue gem. Before following the last ray of light into the sky the little bird closed her talons around a yellow rose and stem of forget-me-nots and disappearing among the starry sky as she passed through the clouds which closed behind her.
