He passed his hand over his face, rubbing thumb and forefinger against his eyes to try to relieve the glare of early morning sunlight as he walked back to what he'd claimed as his own tree. The wait staff of the diner had changed to the morning crew, the before-work crowd just barely tickling in. No one troubled him, just sidled quickly out of his way as he had gone to the counter for a coffee and then washed his face and hands in the wash room. The park had early runners in the first pieces of their heat gear, a policeman at the end of his own shift eyed him up as he passed. They'd chatted briefly not far past midnight, and thankfully the man had understood that leaving him alone was both safer and cost less effort and trouble on the taxpayers. He didn't want to send some cop to the ER just because the man wanted to throw him out of the park. He wasn't going to leave the park yet. He didn't want to leave the tree yet. It was calm there, quiet. There was no one there. It was cold with dying autumn. Most of all it felt real, compared to everything else. And here it was- Titan settled again with his back to the tree, overlooking the little pond. He only brought one knee up, to rest elbow against while his palm supported and spread over his brow and eyes. There was a small, very small aura nearing. He didn't move. It didn't matter.

Crouched low to the ground, the sleek silver form stalked closer to the Goliath that sat under the park tree, a long tail curling along the ground. Green eyes trained on the hulking figure through a haze of purple, never wavering or blinking in case he should attempt to make a move in some threatening fashion.
The last time Ash had been around another Negaverse officer, the brute had stuffed her into a bag and necessitated rescue by her First. She did not have a terribly good opinion of them thus far, but this one... was being decidedly un-Nega. Since when did they sit around under trees being lumps? There was no one to drain here, no starseeds to rip. She'd even seen him talking to a police officer hours ago with no ill effects to the man. It was a very curious situation and if there was one thing Ash could not resist, it was a curiosity. For someone who's stock in trade was information, such a thing was worth investigating.
Thus, as the light of dawn lit the park and the man had returned to his resting place after a short absence, she had decided to take a closer look. Coming around the back of the tree with its solid column between her and her target, Ash reached out with a long paw... and gave a slap to the broad side, claws hidden. Jerking back, she hid behind the tree again, pointed earspinned to her head as she waited for him to explode into action or... something. Move. Do... evil things. The guardian tensed as she primed her kitty beam, wanting to be ready if he tried anything untoward.

There was a boof to his side- small, sudden and kinda soft. It was hard to tell from impact in hardened, chilled, thick muscle. Has a squirrel thrown an acorn at him? Titan didn't move for a few breaths, brow slowly pursing together in trying to decide what it was before finally turning to look at the ground next to him for a nut of some sort while shifting a hand to his flank just below the wide belt of leather. He didn't see the peeking grey ears around the tree roots. Instead, no nut or rock found, he looked up to the branches to look to see if he could find a squirrel. Since he couldn't find the nut. There didn't look to be any fluffy, fattening rodents in the slowly blushing trees.

The silver cat squirmed in fearful excitement as the man-mountain moved, her hips doing the little hunting wiggle of a cat spotting a mouse. Her forehead glowed brighter as she prepped her modified beam and then he was reaching back... reaching for her! His hand managed to pat around a bit and his gaze turned upwards before Ash could stand it no longer and she arched her body up in scared puffing as she fired.
A startled sound broke from her as her beam stabbed into the offending hand and the guardian danced unintentionally out of hiding, the broad side of her body offered to the officer in an attempt to make herself look big and threatening. Even her tail bushed out to twice or three times it size and ears pinned back to her head. Vocal warning bubbled out from her throat, the whole picture of cat and giant man facing off no doubt quite ridiculous from an outside view point... like a kitten trying to face down a rottweiler. To Ash, wrapped up in her own adrenaline and imagination, it was all quite serious and life-or-death. She remembered quite well how it felt to be in unfriendly hands, by god she would not do so again!

Titanlåvenite's attention had been drawn to the sound of the war-warbles more than the light of the mauvian beam, turning back from the canopy to sight the fluffed and advancing silver mass. His arm tingling dead and sudden, as though it were cut off in a wave of from joints at wrist to elbow to shoulder was a surprised afterthought. He blinked slowly. He rubbed the dead arm with the other hand. His heart jump-started to a more seasonally friendly rhythm for a handful of seconds, then gave it up to feeling dizzy. It is a star cat like Grendel. But it isn't Grendel. It isn't that black horror either. Titan pulled the dead arm in to his lap in half-hearted protection. "I feel no scout near. You won't kill me that way, starkitty. Your beams seem more effective to the head. But that wasn't lethal either, last I felt." "I already have a headache."

"I'm not trying to kill you."
Ash came to a tail-lashing stop as she glared at the giant. Her body still arched, still puffed.
"If I wanted you dead, you would be dead already." She boasted as she eyed him up and down. Her beam seemed to hardly bother him, which was not surprising, but there was also a decided lack of response to the attack, even accidental as it was. Oh, her mind was a buzz with curiosity! What was he doing here? Why did he seem so passive? What was his weapon? Did he also enjoy stuffing cats in bags? All important questions.
Jeez, she'd never seen a human that... large before. Thraen was terribly tall, but not so big. Even sitting down he was massive and if her calculations were correct, she would nearly fit under the span of his fingers. Sort of a scary thought.
"Is that why you're sitting here rather than being out and about terrorizing the citizenry?" Ash said. With his lack of motion, her arching eased a bit, her spine falling into a more natural curve even though her tail remained puffed. Unable to resist the burning need, the guardian sat down abruptly to begin grooming her bib and paws. Getting all puffed up like that always did a number on her fur... nothing would satisfy her until she was smooth again.

Titan kept rubbing his arm, vaguely disappointed that this didn't prove any cure to the dead feeling the way it might for a mundane 'falling asleep' of the limb. It would just have to be waited out. Like staring at the sky or headache black when the black mauvian HAD caught him in the head. "I don't terrorize anyone. ". It wasn't argumentative or sullen, just toned like a fact. "Here just felt solid and real. The tree and park welcome everyone. " The tree doesn't care if I'm not worthy. It is probably older than any of the commanders right now. I wish I had its perspective. "What are you doing here?"

The small pink tongue rasped over silver fur and Ash ignored her company as she set each strand to rights again. The bars down her spine never looked quite right unless they were smoothed just so and the grey blended to white down her sides so much better when she set the fur this way... She seemed for all the world to have forgotten he was even there until she had finished to her satisfaction and lifted her head again.
"Here is no less real and solid than any other place." She said primly as she settled herself to sit like a cat statue, paws set just so and tail curled around it all. She could have had a place in any egyptian tome. "And as unthinking beings, neither the park nor the tree can truly welcome anyone. Though, I suppose questions arise when you consider the relationship between a senshi or a knight with the places they take their names from. This is not, however, a Wonder."
What an odd duck. Having a hard time of things, are you? Poor thing. I don't know if I should pity you or take pleasure in your misfortune. You're not on my side and not even a senshi like Carnelian.
"Currently, I'm here talking to you." Ash quipped, looking entirely too smug in her smart-a** comment. "If you mean 'why did I come to the park and decide to talk to an officer?' then I was... making my rounds, so to speak. Unawakened senshi don't throw off beacons, you know. You have to get out there and feel around for them. The same with senshi ready to be upgraded. I also like to roam a little, which is something cats naturally do. I saw you sitting here like a lump and in all honestly, my curiosity was poking at me."
The tip of Ash's tail curled up and down again, the only real movement from her beyond the slow blinking of her large, lambent eyes.
"Negaverse agents do not just sit around as you are doing. They're always out draining people against their will and picking fights with senshi and knights. You're like a chip that's missing a crucial contact point... you don't fit."

Her cleaning, the silence that accompanied it that drew out into minutes as more than a few licks were administered was enough that Titan had turned his attention away- back to the water not far off. Back to turning over Obsidian's words and the last hours spent in the man's company before leaving with that dawn. Whenever that was ago.His arm was starting to tingle again with waking as whatever magic from that magic ray slowly left hold of the limb. Titan rubbed the dead hand with his still fine one a little harder, trying to urge the nerves along faster. He could close the fingers now, but the grip was not strong. There was still now feel of senshi of knight nearby, which was lucky for him. When she spoke again, it was grating- needlessly haughty for so small a creature. It can think. How can you know it doesn't, just because you don't understand it. Because it doesn't use talking? People think cats can't think. And what is to say it can't be a wonder. What makes a wonder in the first place? It is land. A place. An object. Could any well full of stars be the Hvergelmir, as long as someone vowed to it and it had enough thought in it or care to accept the vow? Why not. But the trail of thought petered off and away, unimportant indignance just a gut reaction to ...what? On the part of the knights he'd come to know, as though the cat's words were insulting to them somehow? Maybe they'd agree with it. He didn't really know much about knights or wonders or land. He wasn't sure what about it bothered him, then. Without anything clear, there was no point in holding onto it- so Titan turned to look at her again but without annoyance of anger. Just looking at her. "No. I don't fit." It came thickly, threatening more grief. "That is very true." "So go, starcat. You don't fit here, either. Be somewhere else, making your rounds." You are an unpleasant little thing.

The tone in his voice perked Ash's ears and she rose to her small paws and padded around him, slipping in closer. There was something more going on here than appeared on the surface, she could tell. She hadn't meant her comment to be taken so personally, but it had been and that was a curiosity.
"I meant a great big man like you sitting under a park tree looking gloomy in the wee hours of the morning doesn't fit. I think you mean something else." She said with a tilt of her head, her voice losing its smarmy edge as her tail made lazy S curves behind her. "Cats fit wherever they want to fit. I want to be here, therefore I fit." A little twisting of the 'if I fits, I sits' phrase, but apropos, I think.
Coming around before him, she sat down again in front of his feet and tilted her head the other way. "Humans work differently, I've discovered. They seem to have to find wherever it is they fit. You don't fit here, but there is somewhere else that has a man-shaped hole just your shape and size... Some place that's waiting for you to come and fill it."
You're obviously grieved and, Chaos or not, its perhaps unkind to poke at you. Can't blame me for it though, I am a cat. Even a 'starcat' as you phrase it.
"Do you like Pocky?" Ash said abruptly, showing no inclination at all to follow his command to go. Instead she watched him with wide green eyes turned purple by her visor. "Chocolate or Strawberry?"

"No, little starcat. There is no place waiting for me." Titan put his face into his hands again, the next words coming slightly muffled, "I've lost the only place I had. " Talk of Pocky was odd. He'd heard of it and seen it in Colin's things, being a fairly packable and quick snack somehow a part of geek culture. Why would a starcat care about pocky? It didn't come in mouse flavour. "I do not eat the little sticks much. They don't have enough calories. "

Was that what this was about? He'd lost his place? She wondered if he meant the Negaverse and her curiosity ate at her. Did they kick him out? Did he defect? Why was he sitting here powered up? Did he lose his civilian home? But, again, why here, why powered?
Coming to her paws, the cat gathered herself and jumped up, twisting her body in an athletic little move that added a little flash to the magic of pulling something from subspace. As she landed neatly, a package flumped down in front of her and she bent to retrieve it. The cardboard was a bright pink, colorful cookie sticks displayed with the prominent 'Pocky' title. Clasped neatly between her teeth, Ash padded forward and wove between the thick, booted ankles, crawling awkwardly up onto one of his thighs. She kept her claws to herself as she went, not wanting to provoke anything untoward before she dropped the package between her paws and gave him an expectant look.
"I like Strawberry Pocky. I don't eat it for the calories, I just like how it tastes. Will you open this, please?" She said politely, her pointed ears perked up at him. "I would like to share it with you. I realize we're about as opposite as two creatures could be, but... well. You look like you could use a sweet treat. I know it isn't very much of a peace offering, but my resources are a little limited."

He wondered, suddenly, if he was hallucinating this whole thing. The star kitty had lasered him, hadn't she? There were tutoring sparkles of numbness just barely still in his arm that confirmed it must be real. She had attacked him, puffed at him, and now was offering him strawberry stick snacks. He wasn't sure what to do with that. In absence of surety, he did what was asked- he opened the small pocket box, opened the foil baggy that sealed the freshness, and withdrew a stick to offer out to the starcat on his thigh. Her fluffy backside was warm through the fabric of his uniform. The small weight was pleasant. From this angle if she lasered him in the face it would be a quick thing, but that didn't seem very concerning comparatively anymore. "Starcats eat cookie sticks?"

Pointed ears perked up as the officer reached for the package and obediently opened it, even pulling one out to offer to her. Such an obliging boy. Its a good sign. Ash thought as she reached to delicately take the snack in her jaws and pull it lightly out of his hand. Watching him handle the whole thing had been a little funny with how large his hands were, but he managed it a lot easier than she would have. Not that she couldn't do it... she could build complex electronics, she could open a snack package. It was just easier to have him do it.
Pleased with herself and the world, Ash shifted, her paws kneading the thick leg under her until satisfied, and then she sank down in proper cat-loaf fashion. The pocky stick was braced between her forepaws and she bit the end delicately, crunching the cookie with a rich, rumbling purr. The silver cat angled a look up when a question was asked of her and she crunched another section, running her little pink tongue over her muzzle.
"I don't know what other Mauvians eat, but I like cookie sticks. I like cookies too, and cake, though not as much as *********... I like food in general, really, just snacks in particular. About the only thing I don't like is vegetables." She said, the last of it accompanied by a rather human face crinkle and a flick of her tongue before she went back to her sweet Pocky snack. "If you don't eat Pocky, then what do you eat?"

"Vegetables are what food eats." He assented her opinion, despite his answer to the next question. And really, it was true if talking about actual food or about Colin. "I actually have to eat a lot of them. I eat a lot of tofu and quinoa in order to get enough protein. And a lot of soy powder shakes. They mostly taste like Yoohoo, but I don't know what Yoohoo is made out of. " "I used to have a more different diet living at home. On your own, it is not so much time for cooking. On my own. Not yours, I guess." Titan gave a slow sigh, focusing most on the pleasant purr, since he wasn't permitted to hold the stick as she nommed. "I think I have only met Grendel. But I haven't seen him in a long time. I was a starcat once. I mostly had to eat leftover burgers from the laundromat trash." It was a preferable time and worry to distract his mind to.
