The Blume Town beach is a haven of pure tranquility, located just a small ways south from town. The warm sands and open ocean soothe the souls of those who come here. You'll always find plenty of people here resting up on the beach, splashing around in the water or doing some fishing to unwind. Remember, taking breaks is important too!
[Playing here with your Pokémon will boost their affection/friendship by a bonus five points and can be done twice per Pokémon. The item Soft Sand can also be obtained here for free.]
[To fish, bring your fishing rod and generate a random number from one to ten. Whatever Pokémon you roll, you fish up. There's no limit to how many fishing posts you can make, but any Pokémon too strong for your rod will simply get away without being fished up. Good luck!]

With freedom abound, it was only natural that the child named Caroline would end up going to the beach in between days. She went back home after a day of running around readying to go, but she wanted to at least go to her new hometown's beach before leaving it in the wind. She sent out Sullie and Cas to enjoy themselves. The Salandit walked onto the towl just to sunbathe, while the Rowlet flew around.
Caroline swam in a one piece for an hour after putting on sunscreen. When she got out of the water, she saw a suspicious Krabby eyeing her egg, it's big meaty claws pincing. "Cas, Leafage!" She called out from the water's edge. Sullie was asleep at that point despite being close, and honestly she just knew Rowlet's moves better. It was a very popular Pokemon in Alola.
Cas swooped down and flicked leaves off of his wings and onto the Krabby directly below, avoiding the egg nearby. "Krabkrab...Krab!" It spat while spitting a Bubble up in the air. Cas flipped around, still getting hit but doing his best to not take the brunt of the attack while his trained ran to scoop up her Egg and Pokedex.
"Leafage ag-!" She called out before noticing the Krabby already fleeing. "Oh no you don't! Knock it to the side with a Peck!" Cas swung up high then fell into a nosedive, slamming into the sideways walking crabs back. Bubbles were blown wildly but by the time Cas's second Leafage was done the battle was won.
After that, Caroline decided to chill (could one "chill" at the beach?) out with Sullie and Eggy while she had Cas continue flying about with a Wingull. "Ahh... So Sullie, this remind you of home?" She asked, moving her first Pokemon onto her lap. Dad had caught the Salandit for her when she was younger- she still remembered how frusrated he was at finding a female. Personally, she didn't mind a male- even though boys couldn't evolve.
The Salandit nodded and fell asleep. Caroline took that as a sign to move away from the beach to set up camp- but first she pulled put a plastic bag and filled it up with sand. It was a souvenir, she wanted to gather those while on her journey. Her dad said no matter where it was, a Pokemon journey could still be like the Island Challenge so it was important to make memories. And that meant pocketing a few things along the way.
So she gathered her things, returned her Pokemon, grabbed Eggy, and went to find a nice camping spot.
Laram shielded his eyes from the sun as he surveyed the beach. The sand looked coarse and gritty, nothing like what Laram liked personally. He knew Zeus was of the same opinion. But Shadow didn't seem to mind. In fact, his eyes lit up when he saw all the water lapping along the shore. It took Laram a few seconds to see what he was looking for. Down the beach, Laram saw an old man sitting on a piece of driftwood with a large net in his hands. As the trainer approached he happened to notice how he worked. His hands looked worn and leathery, but strong. They worked over the nets with an unerring confidence."No sense in sneaking around young man. If you want to ask something just spit it out."Laram smirked. He liked snippy old people. They usually had the best stories to tell, and they always found a way to help an out-of-luck street urchin. Laram walked around and faced the sitting figure.
"Hey old timer. I'm looking for the person who put an ad out in the city. You're the only one working on a net I can see. Is that you?"The old man chuckled before answering."A bit blunt, but I like you. Come here and give me a hand with this net. I want you to tell me if any of these loops are the wrong size."Laram knelt down in the sand and handed the old man any inconsistencies in the net. It was a slow pace, but they got into a groove and in an hour the net was almost finished."You do good work son. We're almost done. Just need to cut off some of these fringes.""Shadow can help with that. He's pretty handy with a knife."Laram motioned for his Froakie to use CUT and because he had been watching his trainer and the old man the whole time, he knew what Laram was talking about. The frog concentrated the energy into his hand and sliced at the net in a horizontal fashion.
After the act, the old man felt the net and grunted his approval."Hmph. A little rough, but not bad. Thanks for your help son."The man put 1,000 dollars and a fishing rod in the trainer's hand."Thank you sir.""Yeah yeah. Now, you can take your money and pole and run. Or you can humor an old man and let me teach you how to use that thing. Earn some more cash and some good stuff?"Laram pondered the offer and looked at his new Froakie; who shrugged in return."Yeah, alright. Sure.""Heh. Alright, follow me down to the water."

Laram gripped his rod hard, with both hands. "Good good. Now close your eyes and let it happen."The innuendo did not escape Laram, but he ignored it. He'd fished before, but never with his eyes closed before. But he followed directions, closed his eyes, and cast."Not bad kid. Keep your eyes closed. You want to feel when the fish are interested. This is an old, worn out rod, but it's strong and gets the job done." Laram couldn't help but snicker as he kept his eyes closed. He actually knew what the old man was saying, so he just concentrated on fishing. Every now and again, he would twitch his rod, just to create a little excitement for the fish in the sea to notice. But apparently, nothing was hungry. After a few minutes, Laram was getting a bit frustrated. He knew fishing took time and patience, but that's why he didn't like it that much."Come on you stupid fish. Bite it."He said under his breath. The old man chuckled."Boy, this ain't river or lake fishing. This is ocean fishing. You throw your rod out and wait for them to come to you. It takes patience."
Laram knew that, but didn't want to be rude. So he kept his mouth shut. However, it wasn't more than another five minutes before something started playing with his hook. He kept perfectly still. Whatever it was, it hadn't decided what it wanted to do with the hook yet. The little nudges became increasingly stronger before all of a sudden, Laram got a bite. He jerked the pole up and started reeling it in as fast as he could."Woah there boy. Slow down. This old rod ain't what it used to be. Handle it like that and it will break. Calm down, tire it out first."Laram gritted his teeth and pulled the fish around, trying to follow the old man's orders. It was stronger than Laram thought. But eventually, it slowed down, and Laram was able to reel it in with little effort. Once it got closer, Laram was able to see it was a Magikarp. Laram had seen them before, but he popped out his Pokedex and scanned it quickly."Alright kid. Now catch it.""Uh. I don't have anything to catch this with."

The old man looked at the trainer like he was stupid. Then he sighed."All right, I'll give you a pokeball so you can catch it."Laram snatched the thrown capsule out of the air and nodded his thanks. He whistled his partner out of the air, and soon a Rufflet dove out of the clouds and clutched the Magikarp with his talons. The two Pokemon struggled for a moment before Zeus flapped his wings and became airborne. As the pair ascended, the line began to grow taught and Laram panicked."Shadow, bounce and use cut. Aim for the line"The Froakie nodded his understanding and launched into the air after his comrade. At the apex of his jump, the ninja frog sliced through the fishing line with a small blade of energy. He landed, hero style, and Zeus flew into the air, clutching the helpless fish in his claws. They flew so high that they looked like dots in the sky. Laram gave a sharp whistle, which the Rufflet knew the meaning of.
Pretty soon, the orange dot grew larger and larger until it landed, hard, in the sand. The fish twitched, but didn't move, and Laram touched it with the capsule he was given. Soon, the Pokemon was captured and Laram handed it over to the old man. He accepted it and put another 1,000 in the trainer's hand, along with an intriguing gemstone. Laram looked at it with an interested look."That's a water gem. Using it will power up a single water attack once."Laram gave his thanks and put the small gem in his pocket. It sounded like an important trainer item and he didn't want to lose it. After they said their goodbyes, Laram tucked the pole into his pack and closed it. It stuck out the top, but he didn't mind. Laram had received a few extra hooks of various sizes from the old man and he tucked those in his pack as well. By the time Laram finished with the old man, it had become the afternoon, and he wanted to get back to the Pokemon center to deal with the Bunnelby."Well. Two days in this region and so much has already happened. Trainers lead busy lives. Come on guys, we need to get back into Blume Town."On his way back to town, a random tourist handed him a little vial of sand on a very tiny necklace. He was in such a hurry, he didn't think about it and just took it and left.

The warm sun and lively atmosphere of the beach had Regal in high spirits. The first thing he had done upon arriving had been to stow his shoes and socks into his backpack, allowing him to enjoy the feel of the soft sand through his toes as he walked along the blue water to look for his client. He knew that he was here for a job, but the trainer couldn't help feeling like he was on a miniature vacation. All he was missing was a cold drink. A tug on his rolled up pants caught his attention, and Regal peered down to see Nova pointing ahead excitedly at an elderly gentleman working with some fishing nets.
"Good eye, partner." He patted the salamander on the head and the two of them made way over to the old man, who gruffly replied that he was indeed the one who had posted up the job request. "Used to be that I could do this stuff blindfolded. Now I'm lucky if I can get it done at all." The old man, whose name was Adam, was apparently a fisherman of great renown around Blume Town and had set foot on the shores of many different regions in his younger days at sea. Genuinely interested, Regal listened to the man's tales patiently while he and Nova helped him with the net. Once Adam was satisfied, Regal had his Charmander use its sharp claws to snip off the fringes and they were done.
"I appreciate the help, son." The fisherman said as he gave Regal his money. "Here's a little bonus, maybe you can try some fishing of your own." He handed the trainer one of his older fishing rods, and Regal couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. He was grateful and all, but he just couldn't help the words that came out of his mouth.
"Two hands, I said! Look at how it's just flailing about! What do you expect to do with a flimsy thing like that?!"
"It's not my fault your rod is so small! I can't even GET both of my hands around it! How old IS this thing, anyway?!"
"Harumph. Quit yer whining and move. I'll show you how it's done."
"Hands off, old timer! Get your own rod!"
"That IS my rod!"
The two men tugged the rod between them back and forth before Adam finally wrenched it from Regal's hands. He was surprisingly strong for such an old fellow. Years of handling rods would do that to a person, he supposed. Those biceps didn't lie. Regal watched his figure carefully as the older man thrust his rod out into the sea. The way his arms were taut yet relaxed, the way he held out his hips as the pole dangled before him... Clearly, this was a master at work.
"Two hands, just like this. Now THAT'S how you handle a rod!" He bellowed. "You watch closely, now!"
"I won't take my eyes off your rod for even a second." Regal assured him. "Please continue to teach me, master!"
The two men stood there for some time, bonding over their love of rods. Adam caught a number of different Pokémon before placing his rod back in Regal's hands, trusting that the young man now knew how to handle it. As the young man stared out onto the horizon, waiting patiently with the pole, the old fisherman went off on another one of his rants. This time, about how young people viewed rods nowadays.
"You see? Size has nothing to do with it, Regal. It's a weak man that looks down on a small rod. Remember that. You see, kids today are too showy with their rods. Used to be that a man's rod was an extension of his very being. Now it's all 'Hey dude, check out my Super Rod! Let me show you what it can do, bro!' Ridiculous. A rod's a rod, damn it. Big, small, Old or Good. It doesn't matter; just shut up about your damn rod before I walk over there and snap it in half!"
Regal listened intently, finally accepting that the old man knew what he was talking about. Before he could speak up though, the pole in front of him began to jerk forward, as something finally began tugging on his rod. "It's happening!" He cried. "I can feel it on my rod!""Don't panic just because it's your first time, noobie! Feel the rhythm! Let it guide you! Sway those hips! Don't be afraid to give it a little jerk now and then! They like a tease!"
Regal cried out as the rod was violently tugged before him. Before he could even do anything, the line snapped and the young man was tossed back from the momentum. Adam stroked his beard and shook his head as the young man got back up. "It takes potential to lure in a Gyarados on your first try. You have potential, kid."
"It felt like my rod was gonna snap in my hands!" Regal said as he brushed sand off his pants. "Everyone feels like that their first time." Adam assured him. "The important thing is that you get back out there and try again. She may break your rod, but she'll never break your spirit. Now come, my young apprentice! Stand straight and grab your rod once more! Let's catch us some Pokémon!"
Regal wiped the sweat off his brow and made sure to rub some sand on his hands before grasping his rod again. That last encounter nearly sent his pole flying right out of his hands, and he would be damned before he let that happen again. The old man watched him closely, but remained silent. It was clear that he wanted to see Regal do this one all by himself. The Pokémon Trainer raised his rod up high before thrusting it forward once more, fire burning in his eyes. This time, he would NOT fail.
He held his pole at the ready, reminding himself to remain relaxed yet vigilant. He pictured the way Adam had handled his rod before, and used that mental image as a reference as he shifted his body to better accommodate his own rod. He made sure to give it the odd jerk here and there, as the fisherman had told him many times that there was nothing worse than a limp pole just sitting there waiting for you. You had to draw them in yourself. You had to make them want it. Make them NEED it.
"Come on..." He whispered. "I'm doing all the work for you. Just come and get it."
When the tug came at his pole this time, Regal was ready. He pivoted his weight and drew in his target to the best of his ability, muscles flexing as he began reeling in his rod. Given how old it was, it was a miracle that it didn't snap in his grip. That was some serious quality wood. Despite his best efforts however, his quarry once again managed to slip away. Adam gave Regal a reassuring pat on the shoulder, and let him know that he was doing just fine.
"Your rod just wasn't ready for that much excitement." He said. "You need more experience handling that thing before you can hope to snag something good. Now how about you humor this old man with another attempt? Third time's the charm, after all."
Regal took a deep breath as he dangled his pole in front of him. He kept his grip on the rod tight as he examined the tool for signs of movement or damage. What he saw instead was a story, told in the nicks and scratches marking the shaft like veins. He could picture the fisherman's old, leathery hands on his rod and the many struggles the two had overcome together. The piece of wood was really more like a piece of history. It was beauty itself. Thus was the life of fishing.
"Alright, nice and steady." The smell of the sea was in the wind as it playfully ruffled the man's hair, as though gently encouraging him not to give up. He needed no coaxing, however. Regal wasn't sure if he had ever wanted something more in his entire life than how badly he wanted something to start tugging at his rod right now. He could feel the need in his entire body, from his head to his toes. In another life, he knew without a doubt that he could have been a fisherman. He had never felt so alive.
It came without warning, just like the last two. Unlike the last two however, Regal refused to let it get away. "It's now or never!" He roared, tugging at his rod for all he was worth. One way or another, this ended now.
It was a valiant attempt, and Adam told him just that as the two packed up for the day. Sometimes it just wasn't your day. Today was certainly not Regal's. As he stared sadly at his little Old Rod, the trainer could truly say that he never felt more defeated. "You didn't give up, and that's more than a lot of kids these days can say for themselves." Adam told him as he gave him a small reward for his efforts. "It takes more than skill to be a fisherman. It takes guts. Come back later, when you're ready. I'll be waiting for you."
At least Nova and Icarus had enjoyed themselves. The two had been getting know each other by playing in the sand, and seemed to have had a great time while Regal was out playing with his rod. They didn't say anything as their trainer returned them to their balls, and he was grateful that they didn't. With a heavy heart, he left the beach and began making his way to the tea shop for his part time job. Maybe Madame Valarie could make him feel better.
Laram was glad that he had boots, as the dirt and grass turned to sand beneath them. He approached someone who looked important and requested information about the job with the Wimpod. They directed him to a man named Sal, who explained that the Wimpod in the area were becoming too numerous and were starting to steal things from beach goers, as they are attracted to shiny items, and they're scavengers. It was becoming a real problem, as people weren't visiting the beach as much. It was a simple job, Sal would pay trainers 2,000 Pokedollars to capture and return to him, ten Wimpod. Laram agreed and took the pokeballs from Sal. After that, he released Firnen and Thor to help him with his task. The trio scanned the beach, but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. So Laram decided they should patrol the sands, hoping to spot what they were after. Halfway down the beach, they were attacked by a Krabby."Thor, Shock Wave. Firnen, Dragon Breath." Laram's Pokemon went to work. Thor whirled his arms fast, generating electricity before launching it at the crab. Simultaneously, his Charmander loosed a blueish-purple beam from his maw. The two attacks collided just before their target, forming one large assault. This was enough to cause the Pokemon to faint. Laram scanned the Pokemon and cursed. It was not the one they were looking for.
He returned Thor and released Galahad into the sky. He needed his eyes in the sky to help him. Another hour of searching later, Galahad alerted Laram to what the trainer might be looking for. He headed that way, and came upon a group of Pokemon scuttling around the beach. It looked like they were scavenging for food. Laram quietly scanned them with his Pokedex. They were, in fact, Wimpod. He counted their numbers and praised his luck. There were twelve of them. More than enough for Laram to fulfill his quota. He called his Rookidee down from the sky so he could quietly give his team their orders."Firnen, use Smokescreen, then Inferno. Take them all out at once. Galahad, sit back. Once the flames are gone, pick off the stragglers."They both nodded, and Laram's Charmander lept onto a the sand down they were hiding behing. The fire lizard blasted the Pokemon with smoke, then fire, engulfing all of them in the flames. Most of the Pokemon fainted from the intense heat, but two tried scuttling away. Galahad dealt with them in quick fashion, pecking one and drilling into the other. They went down. Laram tossed the pokeballs he received for the job, and captured ten of them.
The trainer returned to Sal and ponied up nine of the ten Pokemon he captured for the city. He kept one in his hands."Whatsa matter? Didn't you catch ten?""No, I did. I was just wondering if I could keep one for myself."The man looked at the trainer with a puzzled look. Almost as if to ask, "Why?" The man confirmed Laram's suspicion when he actually asked the question."Why would you want one of 'em? They're pests, not really strong or anything.""I don't care about that.""Sure, fine. What do I care? They're a menace, these Wimpod. One less of 'em that I have to deal with."The man waved him off, and paid him. Laram thanked Sal, and looked at the sun. It was dusk, and he figured that he and his team needed to rest and recuperate. On his way back to the Pokemon Center, Wimpod's pokeball disappeared from his hands in a flash of light."What the..."Laram rushed to the Pokemon Center, hoping to find some answers.
As Matthias got to the outskirts of town he started to feel a lot better, letting out his two Pokémon to enjoy the fresh air with him. Tossing one ball from each hand Nickit, and Froakie appeared in twin flashes of light, both eager to be outside once again. Nickit and Froakie both turned to their trainer with two very different expressions. Nickit bounded over immediately with little cries of joy as she nuzzled into his leg. Froakie however eyed the boy with a bit of anxiousness and suspicion.
Matthias had expected this reaction from Froakie, and kneeled down, extending his right hand, palm up to the frog Pokémon. ”It's ok Froakie, the Professor told me what happened with you so I totally get it if you don't trust me yet.“He spoke calmly and softly to the Pokémon, using his free hand to pet his long time friend Nickit as she rubbed up against him. ”Nickit and I can empathize with being treated like you don't matter. We grew up together on the streets of Goldenrod city, and it was a hard life for sure.“ He paused to gauge Froakie's reaction, and wasn't entirely sure what to make of it. The frog Pokémon was clearly listening, but it certainly wasn't showing any signs of being less suspicious of him. With a soft sigh Matthias brought out his pack and took out some cooking supplies to make some curry with. ”Tell you what, I'm going to make us some curry for lunch, you're welcome to join me and Nickit, but if you would rather not I understand.“ Grabbing Froakie's Pokéball off his belt, he placed it on the ground and stepped away a bit. ”If you wanna join us, lunch should be ready in about 10-15 minutes, but if you would rather have some quiet time alone you can hop back into your ball ok?“
Froakie just looked at its trainer for a moment, not making any noise at all. As Matthias got to work, the little frog Pokémon moved to sit beside it's Pokéball, but it didn't head inside. While Matthias got to work on the curry, Nickit approached the frog type and began to talk to it in Pokéspeak. Matthias of course didn't understand a word, and Froakie seemed to mostly just be listening, but he did hear the occasional response from the frog Pokémon, so maybe it was a step in the right direction. As he had promised, about 15 minutes later he had finished up the curry. It was a simple green curry, with no berries in it since he hadn't collected any yet, but it was warm and refreshing none-the-less. Dishing up some for the three of them he turned the portable burner off so that the left over wouldn't burn.
The change in Froakie was almost immediate as it began eating. Hesitantly at first, the frog Pokémon kept watching Matthias as if he was going to take it away, but the trainer just smiled. ”Dig in buddy, that bowl is just for you.“ After taking a first hesitant bit, Froakie began gulping down the rest like it was the best thing it had ever tasted! Matthias chuckled as he ate his own portion and reach out to rub the Pokémon's back gently. Froakie tensed up at first, but soon began to relax a little, seeming to realize that Matthias wasn't like his captors at all. ”There you go, you're safe here with me. I promise I'll never let anything happen to you ok?“ Froakie looked up at its trainer and smiled at him, but moving a little closer to snuggle up to its trainer. Not wanting to be left out Nickit curled up on his other side and Matthias pet them both as they listened to the sounds of the waves hitting the beach.

Bravery is not the absence of fear...
After cleaning up from lunch, the trio made their way down to the beach proper. There were a lot of people crowding the main area, and so Matthias decided to head away from there. He could feel his chest start to get tight as he passed by the crowd of people enjoying surf and sun. God damn it. Two years. Two years I've been off the streets and crowd still make me nervous. It was just then that he felt a soft bite at his ankle, and he looked down in surprise to find the Nickit was the one who had bit him. He stopped himself for a moment and noticed that his heart was beating like crazy so he took a deep breath. You got this... ground yourself... ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two one...At the start of his count Matthias took a deep breath in, and took the full count to breathe it out before reaching down and giving Nickit a soft pet. ”Thanks girl... I'll be ok now.“ Taking one more deep breath to settle down, Matthias took a look around and noticed an old man with some nets around him just down the beach. ”Hey, let's go see if that guy has any information about the local Pokémon eh?“ Satisfied he was over his near-panic attack Nickit let go of his ankle and gave it a soft lick. Matthias paused to take his shoes off before heading too far out into the sand.
As they trio approached the old man, Matthias told his Pokémon to go ahead and play in the water for now. Getting closer, Matthias noticed that he seemed to be working on fixing some holes in the net. ”Hey there, need some help?“ Matthias called out, always one to lend a helping hand when he could, besides he really needed something to keep his mind occupied for a bit. ”Well thanks youngin', name's Adam, you know anything about fixing nets?“ Matthias shook his head, but the old man waved him over anyway. ”Eh, it's easy enough if you got the patience fer it. Come 'ere and I'll show you 'ow it's done.“ Matthias and Adam spent the next hour or so working on the nets and chatting with each other. Matthias took a bit to figure out the knots that he was shown, but once he had them, his deft fingers worked quickly. ”Dang boy, you damn near fix nets faster 'n I do, where you get such quick fingers 'eh?“ Matthias smiled and pulled a deck of card out of his pocket. ”Street magic, here I'll show you.“ Matthias handled cards like a pro, performing a ever more complex series of vanished and card flourishes for Adam. Froakie and Nickit soon padded over to watch the show too, and afterwards began to help out with the nets. The two Pokémon were no good at fixing the holes, but working together they were certainly able to stretch the broken nets out flat, and fold the fixed ones away neatly.
While they worked, Matthias asked Adam some questions about Pokémon in the region. The young man explained that he was aiming to be a dark type specialist and began to inquire after dark types that might be in the area. ”Hrmmmm seems to me I recall seeing a Corphish or two in these parts, but that was while back. If you're lookin' ta master them dark types you might wanna head over to Stroud city.“ Matthias looked at the old man with curiosity in his eyes. ”Oh yeah? Why's that?“ Adam chuckled as he fixed up the last of the nets and stood up with a bit of scarping and popping of his old joints. "Well that leader's a dark type trainer is why." Matthias' eye lit up at this knowledge, having a dark type trainer to go to and test his own team against would be a huge help! He hadn't thought there would be another specialist out this way. ”Thank you so much! Now I have a solid goal.“ Packing away the tools he had borrowed to fix nets, Matthias made to gather his Pokémon and head off, but Adam stopped him. ”Now hang on Sonny, you helped me out, an' that deserves some payment I think.“ Before Matthias could refuse Adam reached over and grabbed an old rod from a cluster of fishing rods by his gear. ”'Ere, you take this old rod and come down to the water with me. Every young trainer ought to know 'ow ta fish. Some o' them dark types live in the water ya' know.“ Matthias could hardly refuse as he was given the old rod, and a bit of cash besides. Waving Froakie and Nickit over he followed Adam down to the edge of the water ready to learn the fishing trade from the old man. ----- The Fishing Guru [Part 1] complete! Bravery is not the absence of fear...
Down at the water with Adam Matthias was just a little nervous. He had grown up in the city and this was his first time doing any type of fishing at all. ”Now casting a line aint all that hard, but there is a bit of a trick to 'et“ Adam had his own rod and took Matthias through how to set up his line and bait before they stepped out to edge of the water, the soft waves just lapping at their feet. ”Now whacheh gotta do, is plant yer right foot in the sand, lift your left leg and then slam et back down while yah throw out yer line. Be shor yer left 'and pulls down on the bottom end, and your right pushed 'ard on the top.“ Adam then demonstrated this, the old man leaning far back and throwing his entire body weight into the cast. Matthias watched in awe as his line soared into the water. "Well come on then, git yer line out there."
Fumbling a little Matthias got into position. While his cast was not as dignified or awe inspiring, he managed to get his line pretty far out into the water. Adam nodded his approval, and then went over how to move and pull on the line once something was hooked. They stood together for only a few minutes when Matthias felt a tug on his line. ”H-hey I got something!“”Well then haul it in Sonny! Drop yer hips like I showed you and don't let go!“ It took a few minutes, but Matthias was stronger than he looked so he eventually wrangled the catch up to the shore. As it turned out it was a Magikarp, not something he wanted to keep, but surely some good experience for his Pokémon. Calling over his team, Matthias decided to see if Froakie was going to trust him or not. The Magikarp managed to get the hook out of it's mouth in the shallows, but boy did it look ticked off at being dragged out of the sea. ”S'all you now boy, I aint gonna teach yah how to battle.“ With a grin Matthias stepped back a bit and gave his Pokémon some room to work.
”All right guys, lets work together and show this Magikarp who's boss.“Nickit was quick to take up a position to the left of the Magikarp, and surprisingly enough, Froakie took up a spot on the right. Huh, maybe my curry is better than I thought. Magikarp glared at the two Pokémon and began to thrash around angrily, flailing too much for his Pokémon to get close safely. "Froakie, use mind reader, get a bead on it and signal when there is an opening in its movements. Nickit, you use that moment to get in there with a quick attack." As if they had been working together for years, the two Pokémon were in perfect sync. Two spheres of energy, almost like a second pair of eye appeared above Froakie, the frog Pokémon put all of its focus into watching the Magikarp, while Nickit kept the fish Pokémon distracted. After a few moments, Froakie let out a load croak, and Matthias was quick to let out a call. ”Now Nikit!“ The fox Pokémon seemed to disappear for a moment, only to reappear half a second later and ram into Magikarp from the side, sending it skidding across the shallow water. ”Now Froakie, send it back to the ocean with a water pulse!“ Moving in close, Froakie opened it's mouth wide and let out a blast of aquatic energy that sent the poor Magikarp flying back into deer water. Magikarp shook its head as it resurfaced, looking very confused as to how it had ended up there, before heading back to the depths
Adam gave Matthias a clap on the shoulder, surprising the teen with a hearty laugh. "Bwahaha! I haven't seen a 'Karp look that confused in a long time, you keep that 'ol rod ya hear. Maybe you'll think of old Adam when your pinnin' on that 8th gym badge eh?" Matthias shook the old man's hand before thanking him and gathering up his things Adam also gave him a bit more cash and a water gem. 'Payment' for the show the old man had called it, and for not catching a Pokémon that Matthias wasn't going to use. He had let the Magikarp go since it wasn't a dark type, but he had gotten his first taste of a wild Pokémon battle. As he and his team headed back down the beach he noticed Froakie and Nickit were very please with themselves, reenacting the brief battle and making funny faces at each other. Well it looks like Froakie is going to settle in just fine, now if we can just find a Corphish before we head out of town...Matthias let his mind wander a bit as the sun began to move down in the sky, casting an orange glow on the beach. He figured it would probably be best to set up camp for the night, and take a look around the next day.

But rather the courage to face that fear and overcome it.
Yukiko and her team arrived at the beach just as the sun began its descent below the ocean. Ditching her footwear, the trainer basked in the feeling of the sand between her toes as the group looked for a spot to enjoy the scenery. They eventually settled on an overturned tree trunk now serving as a bench, and wasted no time in breaking out the sweets from Madame Valerie as they turned their attention to the sky. The whole horizon was a swirl of honey and scarlet as the sun made its way down for the night to make way for the moon. As it finished its journey and the moon was clearly out on display, Yukiko thought to herself what good fortune it had been that she chose the Kimchi region to begin her adventure. Anise, Angelica and Jasmine were kicking up small clouds of sand as they chased each other around the beach. The trio had only just met one another today, but they already seemed to be thick as thieves. She couldn't be happier.
"Damn it all, I can't see a darn thing..."
Looking over at the source of the noise, Yukiko spotted an elderly man struggling with some fishing nets. With only the night sky and a few stray bonfires, he seemed to be having a tough time of it. Her mother had always stressed to her growing up that it was important to help your elders, so the girl quickly finished cleaning up and motioned for her team to follow her as she approached the fisherman.
"You look like you could use an extra set of hands, sir." She offered kindly. "May I?"
"That would be awful kind of you, miss." The man responded as he passed her a section of the net. "I thought I'd have this done well before the sun went down, but I suppose time makes fools of us all..."
At Yukikos request, Angelica used some her stored up sunlight from the day to use Flash to help illuminate their surroundings. Now that everyone could see what they were doing, the group was able to make quick work of repairing the nets. The fisherman, who Yukiko learned was named Adam, thanked her for all of her help and gave her some money for her trouble. She tried to explain that she didn't help because she wanted a reward, but the girls protests fell on deaf ears.
"I put up a request earlier asking for help, so it's what I would have paid anyways had someone taken me up on it." He reasoned. "More importantly miss, do you have any experience with fishing? You looked like you'd done this before."
"Not since I was a little girl." She admitted. "I used to tag along with my father and uncle back when they would go fishing. But that was a long time ago."
"Is that so? Well why don't you take this anyway?" He offered while presenting the girl with an old fishing rod. As a trainer, Adam informed her that fishing would not only grant her access to specific kinds of water Pokémon, but Yukiko would also be able to cook up any stray fish she managed to catch. It was a good way to keep everyone's bellies full while on the road. It was a kind gesture, so Yukiko accepted the gift and thanked Adam for his generosity before gathering her team and making her way towards the Pokémon Center. She'd managed to make a fair bit of money in just a single day, so the trainer figured she would spend one more day racking up cash for the trip before leaving Blume Town the following day. For now though, it was time to rest.
