PortalIt was still raining and miserable on the island, but Finn hoped that where they were going, the weather might actually be a little more decent. He didn't mind the cold, and he fully expected there to be a chill in the air at their destination, considering well....It was September and they were going to Canada. Western Canada. Western somewhat Northern Canada. The point was he expected it to be chilly, but hopefully sunny. He was tired of his rain bullshit already. At the lighthouse portal around 10 am, he waited for Ripley to arrive. He had a small luggage bag with him, packed with a couple of changes of clothes. Idly, he glanced at his phone from time to time, just in case the other man texted to say he couldn't make it for whatever reason or had changed his mind. Finn wasn't yet sure if he would still go in that case, though he had actually been looking forward to a break.

The Other Side
He was right. It was actually chilly here. The sky was overcast, and the wind that was blowing through seemed to cut right to the bone, and felt like it was coming straight off of the mountains, though he had done his research and knew that the closest of those were nearly two hundred kilometers away. They were in his home province of Alberta, but much further North of where he had been raised, and hopefully in no risk of exposure to anybody who might have ever known him.
Though with the scars, the shorter hair, the neat yet stubbly beard and the eye patch....Chances were that wasn't going to happen anyways. He doubted his own god damn mother wouldn't have recognized him now.
"Welcome to Grande Prairie." He held his arms out to his side and gestured around to the place he had never been before in his life, but had at least heard of considering it was a small city that was surrounded by flat countryside used predominantly as farm land.
The portal techs had actually dropped them off in some back alley that appeared to be located behind an adult video store in what Finn assumed was likely in the center of downtown. It had been empty when they arrived, but the back door to the X-rated business soon opened as a shady looking customer with a hat pulled down low to shield his eyes came strolling on out, a black, unmarked plastic bag in hand.
Finn nudged his companion with an elbow and hissed. "I bet he's here for the gay porn." Before giving Ripley a smirk. "Look, I swear it's better then this. Let's get out of here."
With his bag slung over his shoulder, he made his way towards what looked like it would be the quickest way out of the alley and onto the main street.

PortalUsually, Ripley was a punctual man. He was always on time, and typically strived to be at least five minutes early. Today though, despite his best attempts, he had been pulled away by one thing or another; whether it was someone being nosey about where he was going and why the luggage, or having to be stopped in the hallway so they could allow a stretcher through, surrounded by a team of Lifers.
As it were, he finally did get there, though he was a good ten minutes late to the agreed meeting time, and at least he had the grace to allow an apologetic expression.
"Sorry." He hated being late. "Hallway traffic jams." Which had been the source of the majority of the stall; he could get rid of people's inquiries easily enough, but he couldn't control a severely injured person in a hallway.
It seemed a great start to the weekend.

The Other Side
The cold hit him, and quickly wormed its way right into his bones; the shiver it produced was the most welcome feeling he had the pleasure to feel in a long time. Despite the overcast skies and the howling wind, he was already in a good mood; it was cold, and everything he wanted in a trip.
"Thanks." He offered a small smile to the welcome. "I always wanted to visit here, never found the time." Until now, he assumed, when the life he led before was long over and quite literally buried. Except, he realized, that this probably wasn't the best representation imaginable: in fact, it looked downright skeevy. He almost, almost had a comment about it, when Finn nudged him instead.
"We are not giving him a show." He warned quietly, though only half-hearted, and more sarcastic at best. Still, he moved dutifully after Finn, looking at his surroundings with a mild interest.
"How far are we from where you lived?"

Portal
He hadn't seen Ripley since the apology. Apologies? Whatever. The main thing was that he'd been busy since then, tying up loose ends duty wise and making sure he was in the clear for these two days leave, so when he saw the other man for the first time, he smiled, and it was genuine, even if it never quite reached his eyes. He had actually wondered if the other man wasn't going to show, as it really was not like Ripley to be late, but when the death intermediate explained, Finn simply shrugged his shoulders.
"s**t happens. But you're ready now?" His eye flicked down to Ripley's luggage, and then back up to the other mans face.
He barely waited for a response before he was giving the portal techs a nod, and the portal itself suddenly leaped to existence in front of them.
One of the techs was actually kind enough to tell them to have a good trip, though felt the need to remind them that they both only had two days and to be back no later than 10:10 am, exactly 48 hours from that moment, or there would be hell to pay (mainly a loss in leave and salary the following month). Finn simply leveled them with his usual cold look.
He could hear a "Good ******** riddance." Muttered from the other tech as he made his way through the portal, and mentally shrugged it off.
Nothing could really sour his mood right now. Not when he was getting off of the island for two whole days.
The fact that Ripley was coming with him certainly helped.

The Other SideAfter becoming so well conditioned to the heat of the island, it seemed that cold weather, while welcome, was no longer as well tolerated by Finn's body as it once had been. Of course, the solution to this would be to move around more, so Finn, shrugging the strap of his duffle bag strap over his shoulder better, began to walk faster, knowing that Ripley would undoubtedly keep up with him. "Wow we just got here and already you're trying to suck the fun out of everything." Finn joked with a half smile, giving Ripley another side glance while they turned around a corner and began to head out towards the street. "I think it's about a nine or ten hour drive from here to where I grew up." Which was just slightly south of Calgary, though he had moved into the city by himself at a fairly young age. "I imagine this is pretty much just a miniature version of what we had down there. Redneck assholes, country bars, hockey....." They began to approach the main street, and as they reached the side walk, Finn stopped, taking a look both ways down the one way. Many of the buildings looked fairly recently renovated, while others appeared rather aged. One lone building stood out tall among the rest, though as far as sky scrapers went, it left little to the imagination. Still, it was clean, and quaint in it's own way. Only one single drunken looking bum was meandering along the sidewalk, at least! The overcast sky did create a bit of a gloomy and grey effect on everything, however. "Jesus, it feels like it might actually snow!" He began to rub his hands together, his gloves tucked away in his bag which he wasn't in the mood to dig through just yet. "Cab to find a hotel or a bit of shopping first?" He had been eyeing up a few of the shops, and his gaze had landed on one in particular that was nearby.

PaintballIf there was one thing about Finn that not many people might have realized (mostly because not many put up with him for this long), it was that he did actually listen. He knew at least a few of Ripley's key interests and hobbies, and using that information to his advantage, after they had gotten themselves a hotel room booked for the next two nights and their luggage dropped off, he ushered the other man into yet another taxi, and informed the driver of their next destination. Splatter paintball. It was located about ten minutes out of town (luckily at some point Finn had found an ATM and had taken out as much cash as he could on his debit card). As the cab pulled in to the facility, which sported an outbuilding which he assumed was where they could rent equipment and their field passes, he paid the driver, leaving him a decent tip as he then let himself out of the vehicle. "I've never actually done this before." He admitted to Ripley as the other man exited the car as well. "Always thought that it looked kind of fun though." It was general admission hours, which Finn assumed made it some kind of free for all for those who entered, though he really had no clue how it all worked. He imagined Ripley would either enlighten him or kick his a** out on the field.

The Other Side"I'm selfish." He explained with a grin, easily stepping up his stride to keep up with Finn. The corner he rounded a little sharply, but thankfully there was nothing to walk into immediately - and Finn hadn't stopped suddenly, which helped. His gaze was on his surroundings as they walked, taking in the sights as he could. Funny thing about seeing the back alleys of a city first: it took some of the mystery away from the actual highlights, while simultaneously making them that much more.
"So, safe." Which was good. He wasn't about to risk one of them being spotted a second time. His last trip was enough of a close call for him, for a long while. Like Finn, he looked both ways down what looked like the main street. Seemed clean enough, as far as cities went. "Good, I miss snow."
"Hotel first." Ripley replied without a single hesitation. "No point in hauling luggage." He had his bag, and Finn had one, and it would only hinder them if they went shopping now, or so he thought.

"Safe as anywhere else in the world, I would think. There's always a chance but....it's slim. Besides, I don't think anybody would recognize me anymore anyways." A small smirk to go with his earlier thoughts now spoken out loud. They had both stopped with their backs to the alley, but Finn cast a glance behind his shoulder as Ripley gave his verdict on what they should do first. His choice wasn't a bad one, and Finn had to agree that it really would be better to get rid of the luggage first, rather than lug it around everywhere. "Agreed." He smiled, adjusted the strap again, finding that it was digging in to the area where the bite mark had healed but still itched relentlessly at times. "On both counts. Hotel and snow." Because he found that he missed it too, now that he no longer got to see it. Another glance behind, and Finn was reaching his free hand out towards Ripley, gripping a hold of his jacket to try and pull him back a few paces, before pushing him against the wall of the building, out of sight of a street that was fairly vacant to begin with. Leaning in, he pressed a kiss to Ripley's lips, one that was likely a bit cold, though quickly warming through the contact. He pulled away just enough to say, "Thanks for coming with me." Before leaning in for one more quick kiss, another glance proving that they were still alone. "Okay, let's find a cab, then. I'm thinking a bed is probably more comfortable then a brick wall." He smirked, and then backed off, clearly satisfied with himself as he pulled out his phone to dial 411.

The Royal SuiteThe room was huge. Finn dropped his bag just a few feet inside the door to the room that they had gotten at the Holiday Inn. "Holy s**t." He suppressed an urge to whistle as he stepped further inside and had a look around at what was just the sitting room/office area. Further beyond behind a wall that only stretched across half of the expanse of space, he could see the edge of the bed, and a jacuzzi tub. A jacuzzi tub. Right next to the bed. Finn was grinning by the time he finished his tour of the room, his bag long forgotten by the entrance. Too long he had been subject to the cramped confines of his Deus dorm room. In comparison, this place was an absolute palace. "We need to stock up the bar." Was the first thing he said when he finished having a good look around, approaching Ripley with a smirk on his lips. "Also, did you see that it even has a two person shower?"

Paintball
He had no idea where they were going - and on that front, Finn was being annoying dodgy - but as they approached the Splatter Paintball building, he had a sneaking suspicion...which turned into a sneaking delight. Paintball? Yes, please. He hadn't done it in what seemed like years, and he hadn't realized how much he had missed it until now.
"Ever played laser tag?" His answer to Finn's admittance was a question, unfortunately. He enjoyed it thoroughly, even if it did come with pain here and there. Though he wondered, however vaguely, if they would even feel the paintballs now, thanks to their FEAR shields - and if it were possible to damage the shields with such a human weapon.
They had come at a good time; the attendant was talking to a small gathering of people, all anxious to play.
"Basically, we're playing capture the flag." He leaned over to murmur to Finn as the attendant prattled on about the rules of the game, and the equipment, and what their entrance fee paid for. "No face shots, try for no crotch shots." He summarized, picking up the rental equipment that was offered as part of the sniper package and setting the mask into place on his face. In times like this he missed his own equipment, but alas, these would have to do. He dutifully strapped on the provided protective equipment, though he was sure he wouldn't need it.
"Protect your base. If you're shot - sounds like the paintball has to actually break on you to count - you're out for five minutes." He translated as he got ready. "The game ends when you bring the enemy flag back to your base." He held the paintball gun in his hands, staring down at it passively though he missed it.
"And it looks like we're on opposing teams." He added, grinning behind his mask.

The Other Side
His forward motion was brought to an abrupt halt as a firm hand grabbed his jacket and pulled him back. A blur of movement later and he felt something cold and unforgiving behind his back while something cold, but a lot more forgiving kept him there. He realized what was happening the moment before cold lips pressed against his, and without hesitation he leaned into the cold kiss, holding it as long as he could as his hands curled into the front of Finn's jacket, pulling him close.
"Thanks for inviting me." He offered a lazy half-smile, his grip loosening in the wake of the second kiss. When he was let up, he moved away from the wall and arched his back a bit, easing the dull ache. As he settled, he looked over to see Finn on his phone, calling a taxi for them.
"Is this a new tradition?" Not that he would greatly object.

The Royal SuiteRipley was trailing Finn, but his gaze was on the ground and the dropped pack at first. Why that drew his attention he wasn't sure, but he had the opportunity to remove his shoes and drop his own pack before he even looked up to see his surroundings. What he saw was - as Finn so rightly imagined - a palace. Ample room, masterfully organized and decorated, and just...completely different from what he had grown used to in the last year.
"Wow." He repeated, looking around as he stepped over his shoes and bag, seeing more of the room - including the well placed jacuzzi tub.
Then, Ripley watched as Finn approached him, and as those lovely words left the other man's lips, the white haired man reached up and pressed gloved hands to both sides of his face, making Finn look at him as if what he was about to say was completely, importantly serious.
"We are not staying in for two days." He half-warned and half-teased, but pulled him down that very slight distance for a kiss regardless. "

The Other Side
Finn was soon getting a hold of the the first taxi company that the call assistance operator offered him, letting them know that they could be picked up in front of the Adult Source Video store. He was still smiling, a slight feeling of giddiness at actually having time away from deus setting in the longer he stood out in the cold autumn air. It would only be two days, he knew, but it was two days well needed.
He hung up the phone and turned back to Ripley, taking a step closer to him, hands lifting to rest on either side of his arms as if he might pull him in. Instead he just continued to smirk.
"Could be." It really depended on if they made a habit out of taking leave off together, which probably depended on how well these two days ended up going.
"I guess we'll see." The smirk widened.

The Royal Suite
Finn allowed the hands, because he assumed that was going to lead into kissing, which was most definitely going to lead into other things because how could it not? Of course, the serious look he was given instead was met with a steady gaze of his own and one quirked eyebrow. What the hell was this?
And then Finn had to choke back a laugh at what Ripley had to say, though the attempt was short lived when the other man pulled him down, pressing a kiss to lips that were only too eager to reciprocate. Staying in for two days? No, but Finn's hands roamed regardless, unfastening, tugging, sliding. "How about just an hour than?" He had stopped kissing in order to grin and say those words.
